Good morning Jimbo.

How much for those properties if you don't mind to tell? Just curious...

The first one was a 60% stake in a 50 meter x 50 meter property including the main house, cookhouse, composting outhouse and 2 wells, one dug and one drilled. There is an additional smaller house that the original owner moved into. It has 110v electricity, intermittent town water and is just barely within town limits of a village of less than 1000 people on a gravel road. It cost me about $15kCAD, one third debt repayment, one third cash, and one third Bitcoin.

The other is a raw jungle lot with 30 meters frontage on an unnamed mud road, 15 meters deep. It is currently unserviced but I should have water by next fall and hopefully power within the year once it has electricity it will be within town limits. Both my neighbors have already offered to buy the property from me. It cost me $3.1kCAD cash.

Good morning Bitcoinland from rain-soaked Puerto Morelos. Down on the coast for a day to visit with friends and buy a new wifi router, and a few other things that are unavailable in the jungle.

First internet access in almost a week and I see the decline from $9.95k continues, although it rebounded a little this morning... currently $8800USD/$11230CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Why is it that the best buying dips always seem to happen when I have no access to buying?
_____

Got a couple more weeks before heading north before the real rainy season begins. Busy preparing for the rains by replacing the roof and fixing the stucco on the walls of the house I bought in January.

I also have to plant a couple of rows of guano palms along the road frontage of my second property (which I bought last week) before the rains come. They should be well-watered and established by the time I come back down in November and will make an excellent privacy "hedge" as well as a fine source of roofing thatch.

I cannot believe this shit.

I hop on a plane to Mexico with the price pushing $10k and less than 36 hours later it drops to $9.2k.

As Yogi Berra said, deja vu all over again.

Now someone will blame me for this crap. Go figure.

An extremely early good morning Bitcoinland. Up at farmers' hours to get to the airport on time. 8:00AM is usually past my bedtime. I guess you could call this jetlag in advance.

I still have 4.5 hours before takeoff so my hope of touching 5 digits before departure is still within reason... currently $9933USD/$12770CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

C'mon honey badger, get 'er done. Go Bitcoin go.
2705  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 04, 2018, 03:27:37 PM
Good AM Bitcoinland.

Still over $9.5k I see... currently $9642USD/$12432CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

It'd be nice to see $10k before I hop on the plane tomorrow.

Go Bitcoin go.
2706  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 03, 2018, 03:21:14 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Nice to see we're up a wee bit... currently $9420USD/$12105CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

It's been 5 days since we were over $9.5k and almost 2 months since we saw 5 digits.

Let's get 'er done.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still sideways around $9k... currently $9141USD/$11746CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

More coffee please. These stagnant prices are putting me back to sleep.
2708  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 01, 2018, 04:30:52 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Missed a few days but I see that the battle for $9k rages on... currently $8960USD/$11560CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Seems we'll have to hit 5 digits before we can consider $9k a done deal.
_____

Heading back down to Mexico on Saturday to buy some more land. I hope I don't take the Bitcoin price south with me.
2709  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 26, 2018, 04:09:01 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

I see we're still grinding along sideways... currently $8796USD/$11325CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

It seems $9k is a tough nut to crack. Patience.

Yes!!! It's about time. Hit the sleazy weasel where it hurts.

Bravo.

Actually, it's not enough. He should be facing criminal charges for fraud. A lengthy prison sentence would do him good.

Well good morning Bitcoinland.

The battle for $9k continues... currently $8926USD/$11495CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Right back where we were the day before yesterday. Ho hum.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

I see we're still over $9k... currently $9363USD/$12010CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

It feels like it might stick this time. Go Bitcoin go.
2712  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 24, 2018, 07:31:57 AM
whoa JimboToronto you and yours safe indoors?
Rosewater?

No problem. The ghastly weather ended last week. We're finally getting springlike weather (high teens Celsius) with sunny skies.

Just got home from the local bar and see we've apparently properly broken $9k. Let's hope it holds and we're ready to get back to 5 digits soon.

Now to sizzle up a nice ribeye.

Life is good. Go Bitcoin go.
2713  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 23, 2018, 04:11:29 PM
Good mornin' Bitcoinland.

Still going sideways trying to pass $9k... currently $8920USD/$11444CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Maybe this week will get it done.

In the meantime, ho hum.
2714  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 22, 2018, 04:36:59 PM
Good AM Bitcoinland.

The battle for $9k continues... currently $8965USD/$11469CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Isn't Bitcoin a wonderful way to learn patience and serenity?
2715  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 21, 2018, 03:38:36 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

I see we continued yesterday's rally all the way past $9k before having a nice little profit-taking/correction. Now we're on the rise again... currently $8835USD/$11284CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Has the usual spring rally really started this time?

I have read about your journey through Mayan lands, and I am glad that life is treating you well.
When you say that the earth is cheap ... How cheap is it?

Thanks in advance.

I bought a 2 story palapa, cookhouse, eco toilet (composting outhouse) 2 wells (1 dug, 1 drilled) on almost an acre of land for about $15kCAD  ($11.8kUSD) half cash, half Bitcoin in January.

This week I'm buying a smaller lot, about 40 meters road frontage and 20 meters deep, with no structures for $3.1kCAD ($2.4kUSD).

The house is connected to water and electricity from town. It's on the edge of a village of less than 1k people on a gravel road.

The vacant land is less than a quarter mile away just beyond the reach of electricity on a mud road. Motions are already in place to extend electrical service there, hopefully within months.

There's already a larger gauge water line (suitable for irrigation) in front of the property, but I don't know if I can connect domestic service to it. No problem though. You can't drink the tap water anyway and bottled water is cheap. A large jug (25 liters?) costs 12 pesos ($0.80CAD/$0.60USD) plus deposit delivered daily by truck.

Edit: Do note that both properties were bought on canstancia not title. Land ownership by title requires family residency of over 100 years.

The only way to get around this is to register a corporation and then only if the owners of the ejido (in this case the Mayan community) agree to transfer title. This requires a large outlay so most people, foreigners and Mexicans alike, own by constancia.

You can read more about it here: https://www.mexperience.com/legal-title-of-mexican-property/

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still sideways with a slight upward drift... currently $8510USD/$10822CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

I'm up a little early today but I've got to deposit some cash into my "credit" card to send to Mexico.

I'm buying another property there. Luckily I won't need to sell any bitcoins. I can do it from the cash I'd set aside for the next buyable dip.

Land is cheap in Mexico. Life is good.

Go Bitcoin go.

This one's part train, part fighter jet, and part bus.

And part Roomba?

FYI he's the thread starter or the OP and the moderator here.

Actually he took on the job of moderator after thread starter and OP AdamstgBit was hacked and had already pretty much moved over to the forum that shall not be named.

After the regular mods got sick of trying to keep this nuthouse under control, they closed the thread. When opposition to the closing was overwhelming, Infofront took one for the team and became head shrink.

I live in the northern US, so I'm accustomed to cold temperatures. I thought I would be adventurous for one vacation and rented a little bamboo house in a rural area of the Philippines. In the middle of the summer there. With 110°F+ near-record high temperatures and 100% humidity.

I'll take the cold over that shit any day.

No kidding. You forgot to mention zillions of insects though.

This is why I have no intention of using my place in rural Mexico during the rainy season (June-October).

Now if I could only find a place with the climate of central Ontario that was as cheap and easy-going as the Yucatan.

Unfortunately most places with nice summer weather are too expensive to get to, buy into, and live in.

I can fly to Mexico for what I spend on beer and taxicabs for a couple of Jays games and buy a beer for $11 cheaper than at the Skydome and walk down the street drinking it.
