281  Economy / Speculation / Re: ~1% below $300? Is that all you got!? on: January 03, 2015, 07:53:29 PM
Agreed! The coin needs to be crushed a bit before we can make a move. Take us down to $266 or below. Please bears, do your worst! It is your time to shine.
282  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Bull Run Due For January According To Analysts on: January 02, 2015, 02:39:33 PM
I think we need a few more months of this. And difficulty will be going up again soon, incredibly.
283  Economy / Economics / Re: Casascius coin market valuation on: December 24, 2014, 02:46:22 AM
There should be an upper bound on the price as it is possible to remove the physical holographic protection and steal the private key below. So risking a huge amount in each coin would be foolish. Then again the market can bear many fools. Smiley

The ground pins in that pic will leak data to the local grid.

I think wobber is just genuinely being empathic.
286  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is this the end of me? on: December 18, 2014, 11:36:46 PM
Hey wobber, we care about you, you are one of us. Hey with an account from 2010 you are one of the old school. Remember times in life when you felt bad and then things got better. There is no reason to think that will not happen again. This low will be temporary and while it is bad you can get through it.

If you need money to live then sell a few coins or do a little work. Living frugal can be just as fun as living large. Right now I'm in India renting a place with no A/C, no hot water (although the pipes are warm as it is about 31C out during the day), a bucket and pitcher for a shower, and a squat toilet (actually they are likely healthier but that is for another thread). I figured out there actually is a working shower but since I got used to the bucket I decided to stick with it for a month just as an experiment in living life differently. No problem. Hold on tight, now is not the time to sell and if even the long term holders are feeling bad then maybe capitulation is finally nearing.

Anyway shoot me a message if you ever want to talk. Smiley

PS If you really have lung problems then cryonics is always an available option. It is a question we will all have to face one day.

288  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wouldn't it be nice... (the LazyWhale algorithm) on: December 18, 2014, 08:40:03 PM
Honestly, I regret ever posting this, especially in such a grandiose way ... "Wouldn't it be nice to trade like a whale? Why, now you can!" /Home Shopping Network.

I regret it, not so much because of the (possibly, likely) unprofitable signal it might yield, but because I've been reading up a bit on trading algorithms (nod to r/forex, some excellent posters in there), and it started to dawn on me how incredibly naive I was in writing up this method - first and foremost, for thinking I could avoid the problem that results from a low number of signals produced by the algorithm, and hence low confidence in the algorithm's results, by some handwavy 'independent reasons' that made me confident it is not overfitted.

I'll update, like I said I would, but more out of obligation and to give you guys a chance to make fun of it, like I mentioned on page 1.
Don't feel bad! We were all free to evaluate the risks and the method used to perform the analysis. I for one trusted it because I thought your avatar was a unicorn but now I see it is just a horse with a carrot tied to its head. Sad Wink
289  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prepare to retest $266 and possibly drop below for a bit on: December 18, 2014, 08:28:50 PM
Surely the strong sold out at 1,000 a year ago and will quadruple their btc when they buy back in at 266
The strong already have a large amount of their net worth in BTC so it makes sense to stay diversified. They might get back a little just for the thrill of it though.
290  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lawsky outlines revisions (18Dec2014) -- bullish, bearish, or too soon to tell? on: December 18, 2014, 07:41:02 PM
Anyone got a link where I can watch? The streaming site doesn't work.
291  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prepare to retest $266 and possibly drop below for a bit on: December 18, 2014, 07:39:00 PM
Exactly. Might be a grind down over the next month or so. Markets need to be brutal like this. Only the strong survive and all that.
292  Bitcoin / Legal / Anyone have a link to Lawsky's speech? on: December 18, 2014, 07:30:51 PM
The one which let you stream it live doesn't have a recording. Not one which works for me anyway.
293  Economy / Speculation / Prepare to retest $266 and possibly drop below for a bit on: December 18, 2014, 06:53:13 PM
I think we might have to break down below the ATH of early 2013 for a bit. It won't be pretty and it will certainly cause a lot of pain -- pain by design. Markets can be nasty. Good luck and hold on tight. If we can go down there and then come back up it will prove we are an unstoppable force, ready for anything. I will be buying around $266 if we get there.
294  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 15, 2014, 11:03:09 PM
Monkey now wants an upturn on Thursday/Friday, about the same time as S&P, but after oil, which Monkey tells me will reverse first, of the three.  Monkey also thinks long bonds will reverse late in the week.

Monkey does not like gold anymore.  Not in December, anyhow.

What does monkey say over the next few months for BTC?
295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A lot of hostility on: December 12, 2014, 10:50:14 PM
The mental immune system kicks in with most people who are not receptive to new ideas. Everything about bitcoin is contrary to what they know about the world so they quickly reject it without thinking. We've invited them to the party but they don't think it will be any fun. Good buying opportunity for the smart. A transfer of wealth from the close-minded to the open-minded. Not a bad thing. Smiley The bitcoin experiment is teaching us a lot about human nature.

I will never forget this Time magazine cover from 1995 : http://img.timeinc.net/time/magazine/archive/covers/1995/1101950703_400.jpg

CYBERPORN - EXCLUSIVE: A new study shows how pervasive and wild it really is. Can we protect our kids--and free speech?

I was 13 at the time and on the Internet and I thought, "Wow, these people just don't get it." Actually I found the cover offensive. Same feeling I have now (although now I am not offended by these people, I just see them as ignorant). The sheep must follow, sad as it is. Back then the Internet was a scary thing. It took the average person awhile to catch on but now they are obsessed with it and carry it around in their pockets. Times change quickly and nobody ever looks back.

It could be pulled forward yet again as more powerful ASICs come online sometime during the first half of next year.

Wikipedia also said more options reduces donations.

Local authority? ll, what is that?
299  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: December 10, 2014, 08:00:49 PM
So how long until ASIC manufacture is lock step with Moore's law? Intel is fabbing at 14nm now. Looks like we will get there sometime in 2015?
