Still going higher. At this point up 10x from a few weeks ago. I wonder if something is up? Seems a poor candidate for a takeover scam given the very, very slow emission curve.

Technical question:

Say I'm sending 2000 xmr someplace.

How come I get errors like this with any mixin other than 0?

[wallet xxxxx]: transfer 2 [xmr send to address here] 2000.4 [payment id]
Error: not enough outputs for specified mixin_count = 2:

output amount = 0.006750010000, found outputs to mix = 1
output amount = 0.009772250000, found outputs to mix = 1
output amount = 0.004645490000, found outputs to mix = 1
output amount = 0.009978569999, found outputs to mix = 1
output amount = 0.006642110000, found outputs to mix = 1
output amount = 0.076933380000, found outputs to mix = 1
output amount = 0.006983820000, found outputs to mix = 1
output amount = 0.042614780000, found outputs to mix = 1
output amount = 0.006233280000, found outputs to mix = 1
output amount = 0.004649140000, found outputs to mix = 1
output amount = 0.076870580000, found outputs to mix = 1

or even for mixin 1? - Anyone explain?

[wallet xxxxxx]: transfer 1 [xmr send to address here] 2000.4 [payment id]
Error: not enough money to transfer, available only 27.858080413699, transaction
 amount 250.050000000000 = 250.050000000000 + 0.000000000000 (fee)

[wallet xxxxxx]: balance
Balance: 2000.518080413699, unlocked balance: 2000.518080413699, including unlocked dust: 0.095951323699

Now I know if i use mixin of 0 it will work, but why can't I use anything else?

FYI, I'm using Monero 'Hydrogen Helix' (v0.9.1.0-release) on windows x64/win 7 - Thanks! Smiley

Edit - is my tx fee too small, I don't know what it should be anymore? Tongue

The more complete answer is that enough of your balance consists of dust that that wallet is unable to construct a transaction of the requested size (including the necessary fees) without using the dust. The dust can't be mixed as you specified so the request fails.

The process of constructing transactions is not trivial because the amount needed depends on the fee. If the fee is large it requires adding more inputs which makes the transaction larger which further increases the fees. It is usually able to succeed (which may require splitting it up into multiple pieces, adding further complication), but not if the amount is close to the balance. How close causes problems depends on the details. In short it is usually better to not try to send the entire balance in one transaction.

Can there not be an option to send the exact payment and have the fee calculated and appended to the total on it's own? So "transfer [address] 2000.0" would send exactly 2000 XMR to the recipient?

That is exactly what it does, unless I'm misunderstanding.
2824  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 20, 2016, 04:51:19 AM
...
If the issue is scaling, it effects us all eventually. If we're lucky. Wink

No. There is a fundamental difference here between Bticoin and Monero. Monero has an adaptive blocksize limit that can scale with market demand by increasing supply for a price, while Bitcoin does not. In Bitcoin's case it does not matter that processing power, bandwidth, storage costs etc plunge in real price as they have over the last 60 years the blocksize is still fixed and requires a hard fork in order to change it. Bitcoin has hard coded the current technology into the protocol while Monero has not.

I always come back to the credit card analogy. It is like expecting the current transaction levels of the VISA network to work using the tabulating machine and punched card technology of the late 1940's / early 1950's. This is when the the Diners Club payment card was conceived and the first cards were issued. Bitcoin can easily become the Diner's Club of crypto-currency, while Monero at least is not prevented from becoming the VISA or MasterCard of crypto-currency.

What does it mean? Huh

It means exactly what he said. The block size is dynamic and it requires someone (users and/or miners) to pay a penalty to incentivize increasing it. So only with increasing demand and activity does it make sense to increase the block size, and with increasing demand and activity it probably does make sense to increase it (balanced against the resource costs of doing so). This excludes malicious attackers with >50% of the hash rate, but of course we all know they have plenty of ways to attack a coin if they want to.

2825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 20, 2016, 04:49:09 AM
To me it looks like in 2016 Monero has resurrected from the death.

Death is taking things way to far. Monero has been at worst in the top 15-20 market cap coins (out of hundreds and probably 50-100 with at least somewhat active development) for virtually its lifetime and that is including some absurdly fake market caps among those above it. Monero also has always had very active development.

Not having a lot of fireworks every day is not at all the same as dead. Have a little patience.

2826  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Monero under 25 cents? What the hell are you waiting for? on: February 19, 2016, 09:42:17 PM
Yes, the price of Monero is really low. But the problem is that Monero price can go down more and stay there - because there are limited people group, who use Monero daily and Monero mining can go up  Wink

This part is incorrect. Mining rewards decrease with every block. They are reduced by half approximately every 18 months, until reaching a fixed minimum about 8 years from launch.

Info about glibc vulnerability

You may have heard about the recent glibc bug. If not here is one article about it http://arstechnica.com/security/2016/02/extremely-severe-bug-leaves-dizzying-number-of-apps-and-devices-vulnerable/

While we do not believe that aeond is directly affected, it is possible that a call to the vulnerable getaddrinfo function could occur indirectly via some library. For example, Arux found a call in the miniupnpc library that is used by anond.

Therefore, if you are running an anond node, we recommend you make sure your glibc is updated to the latest version (would need to have been released in the last few days), and then restart your node after rebooting. If you built a static Linux binary (most people would not have done this) then you will need to rebuild it.

While we don't think that Windows is affected (because it uses Windows libraries rather than glibc), Arux is creating a new Windows build of 0.9.6.0, which was missing in any case. Once that is ready all Windows users should update.

2828  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 19, 2016, 04:22:19 AM
Would you guys, even though this is the speculation thread, be interested in some (daily) crossposts of salient reddit posts? I'll try to format them together in one post if interested.

Yes but it would be improper here.  On-topic moderation is in effect, and should be just, blind.

It could be on topic if such posts are related to speculation. As an example fluffypony's comments about how Monero might (and even in his word, likely) fail certainly seems on topic. You can't intelligently speculate without considering the potential for negative outcomes.

99.9% of the code is brand new and unique

Please knock yourself out trying to document anything close to that number because it doesn't fly. Already something in the neighborhood of 100s of lines of code have been specifically identified as copied and obfuscated. By inference the 99.9% number would put the size of the entire project at 100s of thousand of lines which is way off.

More likely very large portions of the code are copied, with the exception of the modifications for the new features, but it is extremely tedious to work out which ones, due to the obfuscation. I would make a large wager that it is nowhere near 99.9% however.

Again, there is nothing wrong with copying and adapting code. That is half the value of open source. The important observation here is not that code was reused, it is that VNL supporters continue to mislead about the scope and nature of the reused code, going all the way up to the top of course, but traumschiff just did it again.

Can I know the ability of this coder in your opinion aside from the fact he is not giving due credit to the original creators of some of the code he is using?

Are any of his features worth while and different? could any of these be of value?
Are they going to be easy for other coders to replicate?

I haven't reviewed his code, and the obfuscation makes it hard for anyone to tell which parts are his code and which are not. The features as claimed seem worthwhile. TPTB says that his instant transaction feature is not really secure, and I don't doubt it (certainly it is true that his white papers are not detailed enough to review without digging through code). But used with caution, as with other "instant" transactions it seems potentially useful anyway.

I don't consider most of the other features particularly significant.

Added some more S-HODL shares for sale at a market price of 95000.

Shares are also available for exchange using S-CKG/CKG and S-CON/CON upon request.

Can the AEON GUI come before LMDB or would that involve more work in the long run (having to modify the GUI for LMDB later)?

They are largely independent.

Great news everyone!

We were just awarded /r/aeon (a top level subreddit) to use as a community home on Reddit.  This is clearly preferable to /r/aeoncoin.

So we'll start the migration there and I welcome everyone to visit us at www.reddit.com/r/aeon

Great work!

if bitcoin makes a big move up, the alt bubble gains (including xmr) will likely be erased. this is true historically.

It depends what you mean by big move and and which part of history.

400->500 probably just hurts alts as everyone wants to ride the pure BTC train for now. But a BIG move may be another story altogether.

Does Aeon plan native integration I2P or Tor?

Maybe. We'll assess how the Monero I2P work is going and maybe consider doing something else with Tor. In the meantime Tor with the wrapper works.

Is there an ETA for LMDB?

Not a specific one at this time. Before releasing something I'm waiting for some upstream improvements and tuning. The first Monero version works great on systems with lots of RAM and SSD but has some performance issues on lower end hardware.

I implemented payment id into my pool code running at https://cncoin.farm. Please check it out and see if everything works well for you. You can mine directly to your account at poloniex or whichever exchange you want.

Please do not recommend your pool users mine directly to exchanges. I have seen Poloniex say explicitly that they do not appreciate the practice.  Encouraging that kind of behavior may discourage Poloniex (or other exchanges) from adding Aeon or other CryptoNote coins in the future.

This is about more than just Boolberry. If we want to see CryptoNote coins traded in more places (like China) then we should discourage sending dust to exchanges. Lets make things easier for exchanges not harder!
Aw, man... Well, I guess that was a waste of time. Maybe I'll just increase the minimum payment.

Dwarfpool has been offering mine-to-exchange on XMR for a very long time, but they have much higher payout limits on it.

"For Monero(XMR) also every hour from 0.2 XMR. If you mine direct to an exchange, then payment will be from 1 XMR once every day or from 5 XMR once an hour."

I don't know what are the best numbers to use for BBR, but you might ask Poloniex.

Did you guys notice, that suddenly on almost one day every coin on Poloniex had a large buy for several BTCk`s...
I don't know how to interpret this, but oil price is dumping, gold price is shootung and suddenly crypto coins are bought in masses...
I suspect that this is a work of large inverstors, that will eventually dump the coins as oil prices rise or gold prices fall..
 Huh Roll Eyes Shocked

I have not looked at that pattern but trading bots using models based on other commodity and currency prices would not surprise me.

Yeah well, who would buy EXPANSE went up by 600% in nearly one day, the same day when XMR, and many other coins, went up with a massive volume. I do not know how to interpret this, but it could be

EXPANSE going up 600%, with a tiny market cap (<$500K) is probably not very related to anything, although a rising tide can tend to lift all boats so to speak.

But if you want to look at broader trends I would stick to the larger alts with consistently higher volumes and market caps and ignore the flash-in-the-pan alts, another example being CBX that was up 10000%+ today.

111k dump...interesting...
Lots of margin, I am guessing.  Squeeze should come quick, if so.  Someone remind me where to look up the margin positions on poloniex?

They don't publish it. You can only infer some things from watching the lending market
2839  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: February 17, 2016, 06:21:05 AM
There has been strong demand for S-HODL shares and I have continued to place more shares on the market.

If you would like a larger position than the shares offered on the market, another option is to make an in-kind investment where you transfer CON/S-CON and CKG/S-CKG to the fund and get the appropriate number of shares in return. If you are interested in this option, contact me via PM or IRC to work out details.
