2941  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Trying to take loan for mining build on: February 19, 2022, 02:57:22 AM
Honestly if you need a loan then I wouldn’t venture into mining. It comes with risks. The mining equipment is very expensive and if ETH keeps declining while difficulty keeps increasing then you won’t make much pretty soon, whether you got free power or not.

My advice just use some of the savings you have and start slow, and each month build up your farm. But borrowing money to buy all this gear is not a good idea trust me.
2942  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation hitting a 25yr old record | Predictions for the future on: February 18, 2022, 04:50:32 AM
Yeah for many people in the mining field, depending on where you live. Profits can be horrible since electricity rates have gone up so much in the past year. I am paying record high electrical rates right now. We got LED everywhere and rarely use any high drain devices besides mining rigs.

They say its due to the shortage of energy and price of oil going up so many are using electricity, and when electricity goes up, people start using diesel to generate electricity and its an never ending cycle.

Hence this is why there is going to be lots of fed rate increases this year. Inflation is getting out of hand.
2943  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Warranty seals Gigabyte on: February 18, 2022, 04:46:15 AM
Did they really just start using warranty seals now after all those years? I can't remember but it was always 50/50 between manufactures with warranty seals and not.

Another thing that is strange is say you bought an MSI card, and a few months later buy another MSI card, brand new from box. And one has the seal and the other doesn't. They were never consistent throughout all these years.

Since they were never consistent how do they know which came with warranty seals or not? Maybe now more cards have it since the value is much higher than in the past.
2944  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Having problem contacting Gainward Warranty service on: February 18, 2022, 03:27:22 AM
I think all warranty should be like with cars or Apple products. The warranty stays with the product and not the owner.

If you buy a used car from someone, and something breaks you take it to the dealer and they need to fix since it’s under warranty. They don’t ask for receipts or if you are original owner.

Same with Apple products. Buy a used iPhone, it breaks, take it to Genius Bar, they verify serial and fix if it’s within the period. All warranties should be like this.
2945  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining fail-safes? rather be proactive than reactive on: February 17, 2022, 05:40:42 AM
Normally when I had some cable melt or GPU blow up a capacitor all it does is make the rig crash. Never led to an actual fire. However I was always worried.

Kept all the rigs on metal open air cases and on a metal rack and kept away from anything flammable. Also had extra smoke detectors near the mining rigs. So if anything happened when I was home I would run quick. If I wasn't home then that's another issue.

I guess you can have a remote smoke detector and some cameras, you see the rig go up in flames you can call the fire dept. No idea if it would help that much since you are remote however.
2946  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Where comes and how exchanges gets the bitcoins that I buy? on: February 15, 2022, 03:06:39 AM
It’s an open market. When you buy on an exchange you don’t get it from Binance but you get it from someone else who is selling while you are buying and your orders are matched.

When you make a market order, most likely you are not trading with a human but basically some market maker. Most maker trades are market makers and bots.

However those market makers got those BTC from someone else who sold it to them on the market. And the cycle repeats over and over again.
2947  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: which coin could i mine using my old phone on: February 15, 2022, 03:01:02 AM
Yes the above posters are right. There is no legitamite type of phone mining out there. The ones in the past were just a simulation of mining but not actually mining.

Why? Well because anyone can use a phone emulator on an i7 CPU or some GPU and they can mine 100x as fast than a regular phone. That and the constant usage causing heat is not good, it will heat up the battery and might start a fire.
2948  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I mine cryptocurrency with the free Google Colab GPU? on: February 15, 2022, 02:56:42 AM
Never heard of free Cohab GPU mining. However if cohab means what I think it means then most likely it’s shared. If you go there and use 100% of the GPU power you will most likely get banned. This is most likely geared towards legitamite reasons like rendering or research and not mining.

Many shared cloud computers don’t let you mine. Because most of these are shared and if you are using 100% of the CPU you will slow down other people and they will complain and management will ban you.
2949  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Weakens at US$ 42,145.35 The Impact of Russia's Conflict with Ukraine on: February 15, 2022, 02:52:43 AM
Basically every day there is some news report out, about the two controls and starts a massive sell off in the stock market and then into the crypto market.

Seems that news agencies are getting paid to publish certain news and it ends up causing lots of panic for perhaps nothing. Today they said that Russia would attack on Wednesday however why would they give an exact date, doesn’t make much sense for me. Either way for short term trading it’s important because it can mess up your trades if you are in the wrong direction.
2950  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is becoming more and more like a stock on: February 15, 2022, 02:48:42 AM
Yes Bitcoin is pretty much like a blue chip stock like Pepsi or McDonalds. Very safe investment however not a lot of growth. Companies like Coca Cola and McD they grow every year however by a very small amount, just look at their stock chart.

So like you said, people want more profit and they are investing in small cap altcoins, meta, NFTs, Defi and more. That is where most of the money was last year. Even if you weren’t successful in trading those you got tons of airdrops, many close to 5 figures even just by using the network.
2951  Economy / Economics / Re: Now who are the owner of Bitfinex hacked Bitcoins which are now recovered? on: February 14, 2022, 06:01:10 AM
I was one who had their coins stolen back in 2016 and I don’t think I will get them back even if they were recovered. Basically after the hack they gave everybody some token for their company.

The token went up and I sold and my loss in fiat terms was minimal so I just moved on with my life. Then eventually the token was 1:1 with what was stolen but I already sold.

So most people especially if they held everything got paid back in fiat, not Bitcoin. I doubt they will give us our bitcoins back.
2952  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Having problem contacting Gainward Warranty service on: February 14, 2022, 05:57:00 AM
I hate it when companies do this. They try and weasel their way out of getting their products fixed. I had this issue with Sapphire. Bought a GPU second hand and a few days later it went up in flames.

So I did a RMA request and I found it odd that they require a receipt. And basically my claim was rejected because i wasn’t the original buyer. The warranty only stays with the first purchaser and not with the GPU itself.
2953  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin closing balance on exchanges on: February 14, 2022, 05:52:41 AM
It seems people forget about wallet towards the end of the year. Wink

When the market is being bullish its common that most people move their coins to exchanges and wait for the right time to cash out and probably that is the reason why price dumped since the beginning of this year.

No this is not true. The balance on exchanges peaked during covid crash and had a nice pump during Summer 2021. However if you look at it long term when Bitcoin peaked the balance on exchanges was still going down.

Basically the bottom happens when there is a increase of coins on exchanges. Seems like a better indicator. Implying capitulation.  However keep in mind that it’s mostly due to ease of cold storage such as hardware wallets and less so on institutions buying.
2954  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 29 Year Old Legend In Crypto Trading on: February 14, 2022, 03:16:36 AM
Yes I saw a quick documentary about him.  I think it was posted on Twitter it was like 3-4 minutes long. However it describes how he wanted to get rich to give his money away to charity.

He started with arbitrage and then later on was a market maker. And then he opened his exchange. He made most of his wealth by reinvesting his profits into BTC ETH and SOL was very profitable.

He bought SOL at $3 at the bottom pretty much. And made very well if he sold some back in November or so. He is a pretty cool guy in my opinion.
2955  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any way to shut off all Riser LED’s?? on: February 14, 2022, 03:12:16 AM
You don’t need to disassemble the GPU. Usually you can look where the LEDs are housed and then see if there is a wire coming out of it, trace and see where the wire leads. Sometimes you can unplug it without unscrewing anything.

If you can’t reach the harness then you just take a screwdriver and take off the shroud. The shroud doesn’t void warranty because you are not disconnecting the heatsink from the chip. Once the shroud is off you got more clearance to unplug the led harness.
2956  Economy / Speculation / Re: Either rise or dip no more stability at this zone on: February 14, 2022, 03:08:50 AM
Right now it seems the markets are rattled by what is going on with Russia and Ukraine. I think we will know more as the week progresses however if there is some type of conflict that actually does start then there will be a mass sell off in all markets. Except perhaps the oil markets which look like they will break $100 pretty soon.

I remember Russia and Ukraine had this issue in the past and nothing came of it and the stock market kept rallying anyways. I think this was in 2014 or so. So there is a good chance people are panicking over nothing. However I would be cautious taking any positions in this area.
2957  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any way to shut off all Riser LED’s?? on: February 13, 2022, 06:37:11 AM
Depending on the GPU manufacture and the way the fan shroud is set up. You might be able to just disconnect the connector to the LED lights.

I forgot which brand it was but I traced the LED cables and they went into a harness which was seperate from the fans, so I just disconnected it and the LED were off permanently. So check your GPU first and you might be able to get away this way. Usually there are screws holding the shroud to the heatsink and its easy to take off. Don't need to remove entire heatsink assembly and void warranty.

Really wish that there was a switch that was added to the PCB to manually turn off those lights. Also save like 1 Watt in consumption.
2958  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin tagged to be on same line with the Nasdaq 100 assets ??? on: February 13, 2022, 04:27:18 AM
Lately Bitcoin has been trading as a risk on asset like the stock market. Usually stocks like Apple they follow indices like SP500, DOW and Nasdaq. But lately Bitcoin also started to correlate with them.

So this is why lately when you saw the nasdaq go down, so did Bitcoin and vice versa was true. All those good earnings, bad earnings, CPI data, fed rate talk, WW3 possibility made the nasdaq move and Bitcoin followed their moves.

On weekends it doesn’t follow because the stock market is closed.
2959  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Buying used Miners on: February 12, 2022, 03:43:44 AM
If you are going to buy used then check the classifieds section or eBay where you got some guarantee and not get scammed. Don’t go to those 2 websites, I’ve never heard of them before.

When buying something on Bitcointalk classifieds use escrow. Basically you pay someone to hold the funds for you until your stuff is delivered. The fee is low and you won’t get scammed this way.

Also keep in mind that an ASIC is extremely loud. As loud as a vacuum cleaner pretty much. Make sure you are aware of this.
2960  Economy / Economics / Re: Impact of Bitfinex hack on the economy on: February 12, 2022, 03:38:53 AM
They are not going to put it thru auction like they did in the past. When they were auctioning off bitcoins in the past it was coins which were seized from Silk Road and such. These coins belong either to Bitfinex or the users who had funds back in 2016.

Most likely they won’t hold them for long. Maybe until after the trial. And then most likely sent to Bitfinex and where it goes from there is anyone’s guess. No idea if users will be compensated or if it belongs to Bitfinex legally.
