1) Create a bitcoin private key by rolling dice
2) transform into an address
3) write down the private key into a piece of paper
4) put the paper in a box
5) bary the box in your garden
6) only take it out when you need it.

regarding step 1: what exactly do you mean with 'create a bitcoin private key by rolling dice' ? i have never heard of anything like that when creating a private key.

I also do not know how to create a bitcoin address using the rolling dice.
Burying in garden may result in destroying the private key which may lead to burn off your hard earned bitcoin.
Encrypt your wallet with a strong address. That's enough to keep your private keys safe.

Yes but you get the randomness from outside. Because the random number generator could be weak. Dice roll is pretty good.

What he said doesn't really make sense. Bitcoin private keys have to be created a certain way, not by simply throwing down random letters/numbers.

Rolling dice can also be done in a pattern, so you're still not achieving much. There's no *true* way to create a random number. Everything has some bias.
2982  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the safest and simplest way to keep bitcoins? on: October 04, 2015, 05:02:52 AM
Some people discussing about burying the private key in garden. Must be a joke.
Simplest way must be a password protection. The most secure way may be the hardware wallet.

Actually, hiding the private key in the garden is not a bad idea, as long as it's stored correctly.  People are crazy about their bitcoins
Simplest way to keep bitcoins SAFE is to generate and print a paper wallet offline, or keep the bitcoins on an offline computer.

Simplest way to keep SAFE is actually not printing a paper wallet -- it's coming up with your own long pass code. Something like "When I was nine, I fell off my bike on the way home from school" -- things like this are almost guaranteed not to get cracked. And then you need no paper wallet because you just input your code when you need to send funds.

On paper wallet I highly suggest if someone uses them to get rid of some of the nicer designs.  Just keep what you need (just cut with scissors) don't have bitcoin written all over it as I still don't think standard thief will know bitcoin QR code.  Could even put something to mislead them like "Family Pictures" with the QR, etc needed.  Chances are they could care less on family pictures if that's what they think it is.

Also you could use a usb stick with paper wallet stored on it.  Put encryption with passphrase like  Ranlo mentioned.  He is very right a passphrase is very very hard to a bad guy to brute force compared to password just a LOT more possibilities.

With my method, you have no trace. You don't need paper, a USB stick, or even a PC. You simply use the passphrase to sign transactions when needed. Nobody can steal what they can't see, even if you're robbed.
2983  Economy / Gambling / Re: Favorite poker sites? on: October 04, 2015, 04:55:19 AM
If I play with crypto then its at PokerShibes.  Grin

They just play with Doge so you have to convert your BTC before going to play there.

I will vouch for Pokershibes. I've cashed out a couple times from straight freeroll winnings (without even making a deposit) and they always paid. I just hate the Mavens software, Sad

Mavens software?

Are we need to doing install before play on Pokershibes?

I'm never try play on that site before, usually play on betcoin ag. How about the review? Is that good? Smiley

The site is good, and Mavens software is just something I dislike in general (doesn't look professional). But yes, the site works and does what it should. Definitely worth giving it a go if you're into betting with DOGE.

I have some dogecoin on my alts wallet. Will try to play poker on Pokershibes next time.

And will not use Mavens software. LOL.

Try to avoid software installation from some newly or untrusted site. Especially if your PC not protected from anti-malware.

Mavens isn't something you download. It's this software: https://www.briggsoft.com/pmavens.htm

A lot of sites use it, I just think it looks too... 1990s.

correct, but that 2fa (30 sec) can be intercepted and used..  even your btc address isn't locked down.. might as well shout your info out your window.. Lets hope no one invest real btc on here, lol don't even need to do that just steal the site cookie.. Really a free cert would go a long way,  even podcast these days are using TLS/SSL connections.

PS

That strong password is useless seeing it can be read over a ethereal packet sniffer program..

Ah, I see. I personally like HTTPS more, just thought that it wasn't that big of a difference in this case. I do think you should be able to lock down BTC addresses, though, which would get rid of most hacking attempts (though people may hack the game to sell your hardware to themselves at a cheap price).

how many confirmation needs to start staking ?? 3167 confirmation passed but wallet does not staked any coins is it normal ?? (unlocked for staking)

Your staking depends on the age of your coins and how many coins you have. I don't believe confirmations make any difference.

Do you mean you got staked amounts but they're not being confirmed? Sometimes a staked amount doesn't get confirmed and if that happens you will stake more later, because your coins will be a little older by the time it does stake.

Also, just as a heads-up, you will likely fail a LOT of stakes. I personally see around 60-70 "stakes" that aren't accepted before one is, so don't worry if you get a stake and it goes gray, and this continues to happen. It's normal.

Ok maybe i am missing something but whats the point for 2fa on this site? Seeing its not even using SSL/TLS connection ie no encryption at all.. (that means everything including your password is in plaintext)

Cant afford a free SSL cert?

You answered your own question. Use a strong password you don't use for anything else and add 2FA. Now your password on the site is pretty much meaningless since it requires your 2FA to enter anyways.
2987  Economy / Gambling / Re: SwCpoker.eu | No Banking, Only Bitcoin | Bitcoin Poker 2.0 LIVE NOW! on: October 04, 2015, 01:00:34 AM
Problem is Swc is not available. And for whoever thinks development of an Android app takes months, think twice. The server side, with the rng and all game play, the userbase, balances is a job done already.

Anyone who has written a significant amount of software would be wary of claiming that you can just slap a new frontend on a server/client architecture in a short amount of time and have it work correctly. The API by which the desktop client communicates with the server were not fit for the development of a mobile client in the least, it (for example, one of many issues) sent gigs of verbose unnecessary data instead of neat deltas. Every layer of our software has required rewrite to accommodate a completely new communication protocol. This on top of bugfixes and development work for the desktop client. A massive hunk of C++ takes time and training for new developers to adjust to-- and they're adjusting to it while they are making modifications to a server and client architecture in production.
i haven't written too much code myself, but i wonder what major tweaks and adjustments needed the already working Bitcoin poker software, because said software worked well as GridPoker? Not minimizing your work, just wondering.
...With Bitcoin and online poker you have to be absolutely sure of the ethics and integrity of your developers-- you can't go picking up random people off of Craigslist.
I wonder how banks handle this situation. Can't trust no one 100% but you can take some precautions
..They also have to be willing to accept Bitcoin as payment from an unincorporated entity.Do you know how difficult it is to even find good C++ developers not given these kind of constraints?
I know bitcoins can be converted to fiat, that's what exchanges are for. Many fiat currencies there, many programmers, world is big.And i can hire a programmer to make me a wordpress site, even if i am not a corporation.
....Software is complicated.
yes it is, for sunday programmers.Good programmers are busy making money.
So far from the answer, i understand i was right, a few programmers made a team to create a bitcoin poker site for the bitcoin community.
Not some businessman behind who decided that bitcoin poker would be a good investment for future, put some money into it and is directly interested to make highest profit from there.
I will stop here, but i have a suggestion for programmers behind Swc: hire a businessman, he will find solutions for any software issue you might have.
Best of luck, seals, i will join you when Android appbwill be available.

Considering just how many BTC-related sites are hacked (even bigger ones), what classifies as a "good" programmer to you?
2988  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dice game strategy? on: October 03, 2015, 11:33:45 PM
My advice would be not to play Dice or Roulette, since these type of luck based games have a higher house edge and it's most probable that you'll lose more than gain anything! IMO, the best place to gamble is either in Blackjack or in Baccarat because these are called "The Game of Odds", where you may get greater chances of winning if you use some solid strategies Wink Also they have lower percentage of house edge there. And most importantly, do not gamble more than what you're willing to lose !!

Neither of those games can beat the house edge, either. And usually they have house edges HIGHER than dice.

Was about to ask whether it is possible to create two accounts until I came to see that it isn't. :v Anyway, haven't logged on in my account for 3 days or so, but still my miner is working pretty neat. I have a question, my miner is 92% healthy and is running at 9GH/s, should I repair it? What's your strategy guys? At what point would you repair your miner?

If you find a cheap technician, hire it when you have under %90. If not you can wait until it come down to %85.
Everybody have different strategy in this game. I prefer to play like that.

At the current rate, I won't make enough to repair at even 85% without depleting everything and using the faucet to help increase it a bit (which means it's effectively spending more than it makes).

Lastly, the investment model is also built on the fact that investors have an interest in advertising the site that they're invested in. That would be easier if they knew which app was worth to push atm.

to be frank I did not know that but a very interesting info

do you have an example where I could see such an advertisement of an app by an investor?

thanks

He didn't say it happens, but that it will theoretically happen. Investors helping advertise = more play = more investor money, so it's in their best interest to do so. Whether or not they do is a different story.

We've been moving as fast as we can. Your "oh you can mock something up in a month and get it out" is not even close to reality. Software is complicated.

This post is the first one that has really hit home to me. One of the things I hadn't considered was that a dev. could implement a backdoor to steal addresses and such. In the real world (fiat), this doesn't happen because any transfer would be easily tracked/reversed/prosecuted. With Bitcoin, it's a different animal. That said, I hope you all don't run into any big issues like a rogue developer.

That's not bad to give 2-3 coupons to 1 person at once since you cant bet on all with one coupon. More coupons -> more pools to bet on -> better chances to win Wink

Thanks finally coupons are not already redeemed.

It's worth checking all codes. Just as a heads-up, I was able to snag one of them a couple pages back just the other day because somehow, nobody had gotten code 4/5, but they got all the rest.

Actually Poker Shibes just announced they are accepting BTC deposits (I assume that are converted to Dogecoin)

Wasn't aware of that. Wonder if they allow cash outs in BTC as well, and what the fees are on conversion.

OK…,

Everyone wants the best deal and wants to play in a rewarding poker room. I think that if A player/grinder is serious he can earn 3mbc /hour, get the points, AND 10% rake back on LuckyFlop! I don't know how much more to give back bc that is pretty good! As far as players or elite set of player…..I would love for 10 players or 20 players to commit to play on lucky flop and I will make them a BETTER DEAL then any other poker site out there! Just to get those 20 main players Im willing to do a WHOLE LOT MORE then any other sites like we have in the past.

I'll work at getting a bit better at cash games and maybe become one of those 10-20, :p.

When I have a limited budget,I usually start doing 200 at 1.8x,then 300 1.80... It usually work to build something.
what your mean about "200" and "300"
I dont know that is

It should be bet 200satoshi with 1.8x payout then increase to 300satoshi if the first bet is lose.

That would result in earning less starting at step 3. 400*0.8=320, but you've lost 500 to get there so you're down 180.
2997  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: do you believe with bitcoin on: October 03, 2015, 02:14:51 PM

Bitcoin can, but most of here says no and I agree with that because if bitcoin will be the number one and replace fiat currencies. I think Government and others will control it to take advantage to manipulate. Never be number one for bitcoin for me its okay to be number 2 and bitcoin is the better than Paypal, credit cards etc.

Yes. Bitcoin can be trusted to transform world economy into new level. For this reason I also believe in bitcoin. Believing not just in bitcoin but into the core technology which makes bitcoin possible. So, blockchain technology is the reason makes me to believe in bitcoin.

But for me I'm not agree bitcoin will be number one and replace fiat currencies. If that case bitcoin will be replace fait currency in the future for me I don't want government take control it and manipulate it as you can see in real world there is always a corrupt. that is why I don't want bitcoin to replace or to be number one Fiat currencies . just saying

I think it's a little unfair to say all government fiat currencies are corrupt.   Some governments they help their fiat money remain valuable.  Other countries are "bad" or corrupt and their fiat will have massive inflation.

Bitcoin really needs government acceptance to last long term.  You will see exchanges registering with governments to do business.  If we want mass acceptance we also want government acceptance to a point.  If a government tries to block bitcoin or go against it that would not be good for value.

Government support is no longer needed when everything is available for bitcoins. Because exchanges need to handle both fiat and bitcoin of users. To handle people money we need government approval. But when everywhere bitcoin is accepted there is no need of exchanging into fiat. End of exchange as well as Government intervention.

This would require EVERYONE to accept it, from farmers/material fabrication to transport to manufacturing to warehouses to utilities to (insert endless list here).

Here is a couple of coupons:
2c35dec5-0003
f8510308-0003
c3a7e2c3-0003
Good luck for you!
P.S. prize pool for block #377777 is already 0.44 BTC! Make your bets, only 3 days left Roll Eyes

With several coupons giving out at the same time, they will likely be grabbed by the same person and in the end help you attract just one new user.
If you want to attract more players to try your site through giving out coupons, I think it is more effective to give out 1 coupon at a time but do it more frequently. Just my 2 cents.

My thought exactly. As it is, whoever finds them first will snag them all, so what you're doing is giving that person a bigger chance to win (i.e., with 3, they can bet on 3 different pools).

Hi,

can you explain how you ensure that the User Funds are secure? Recently a lot of Exchanges or Cloud Mining Services were hacked and User funds disappeard.
Do you have an Insurance to cover such an Issue? Did you ever an Audit of you Plattform by a third Party Security Company?

I think they have fractional reversed wallets to secure their clients in case their hot wallets get compromised! Eric might throw some light upon this Smiley What i worry is mostly about their exit strategy!  Until they fully translate their FAQ page, (I don't trust Google Translate Tongue ) the best bet is to wait for Eric to clear these doubts Smiley

I wouldn't be worried about exit strategy. Just securing funds. As Eric has said in response to my questions, the worst that would happen to users is no more interest. But asking what happens if they're hacked is a great question.

Are there any plans to implement a system where there is a graph of how much was wagered on which site at which time so that investors have an overview of which apps are making them profit/loss?

interesting question but what would you do with this info?

It helps give an overview of the business. I think it has little utility value since you can't invest in one without investing in all, but it gives a bit of transparency/seeing how each section is going. Think of it as being like an ETF -- while you buy or sell the entire ETF, it's still nice to know how each company is doing.
