321  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin assets cannot be blocked - is that helping terrorists? on: September 05, 2021, 12:13:17 PM
~
Terrorists prefer to use cash instead of using Bitcoin, they don't like complicated and complicated affairs, terrorists prefer simple, real and accurate, that's my thought.

Agree with this. Because even when Islamic State was at it's peak dominance in Iraq/Syria, there were zero reports of them using cryptocurrency. It is no secret that Bitcoin is used (to some extent) in drugs trade (especially using dark markets). But terrorists using Bitcoin is just another fairytale being spread by the lefties who want to destroy the cryptocurrency sector. And if by any chance the terrorists are using Bitcoin, then it is the fault of the government. Bitcoin was not specifically designed to help terrorists or criminals.
322  Economy / Economics / Re: New York Mayoral Candidates Turn to Crypto for Votes on: September 05, 2021, 12:01:11 PM
New York is so deep blue that they would elect Kim Jong Un if he stands as the mayoral candidate. So none of the other candidates other than Eric Adams have a realistic chance of victory. The only concern for Adams should be his tough primary race with Kathryn Garcia (where he edged ahead by less than 1% of the vote). The democrat base seems to be divided in NYC. On the other hand, Curtis Sliwa had a relatively easy win over Fernando Mateo in the GOP primary. That said, has any of these candidates promised to review the NY BitLicense? This restrictive regulation has stunted the growth of cryptocurrency in New York. Anyway... BitLicense was introduced by the state of New York, and not by the city of NY.
323  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: September 03, 2021, 03:50:40 AM
Can the first dose of vaccine make someone win against the covid virus?
in my country the government recommends all ages to receive the first and second doses of the vaccine. The administration of the first dose of vaccine and the second dose also takes a long time, maybe 1 - 2 months.

Well... for the original strain, even one dose of the vaccine could have given enough immunity to avoid hospitalization. But the emergence of the delta variant has changed the equations. Even two doses of the best vaccine (Moderna) is only 76% effective against this strain. For Pfizer, the efficacy drops to 42%. I would assume much lower efficacy for the other (i.e non mRNA) vaccines. That is the reason why many of the countries, which earlier used vaccines like Sinovac and AstraZeneca are going for the third (booster) shot.
324  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: September 02, 2021, 04:24:36 AM
PS. I look at open sources, in India the indicator also leaves much to be desired (about 11% are fully vaccinated), although your scale is certainly incomparably larger ...

India is vaccinating close to 10 million people a day by now. 37.8% have received at least one dose, and 11.3% are fully vaccinated (here the priority was to administer at least one dose of the vaccine to those who are below 45 years, rather than fully vaccinating them). The government is trying really hard to vaccinate as many people as possible before the third wave. Considering the huge population, low education levels and lack of cooperation from the opposition ruled provinces, what has been achieved by the government so far is no less than monumental.

@Sithar007 Jadeja doesn’t gets lots of credit for the work he’s done, but finally people are realising how important he’s to the team. Also I feel that he has a unique way of playing the game, which puts the pressure back on the opposition bowler hence if he’s fit then he should definitely be included in the playing 11.

Agreed. Sir Jadeja is one of the most underrated players in the team. He is a genuine match winner for the Indian team, and on numerous occasions he has guided the Indian team to victory from the claws of defeat. Most of the occasions, he is left high and dry, as he bats at no.7. Even if he is on form, there is a good chance that he will run out of partners at the end. If you check his batting average, then it may not be as astounding as the same from top-order batsmen. But the reason for that is he gets hardly anytime to settle in, due to his position lower down the order.
326  Economy / Economics / Re: El Salvador retirees protest against Bitcoin as legal tender on: September 01, 2021, 11:14:55 AM
I have older relatives, and they are still very skeptical about me using Bitcoin. In spite of everything, they believe it's a financial pyramid and think it's very unwise of me to deal with it. So, honestly, I'm not surprised it's the case in El Salvador as well. People who've lived dozens of years without cryptos feel like it's an unnecessary risk to take. Then again, I'm mad they're protesting against El Salvador adopting Bitcoin because it's not like El Salvador is saying goodbye to the USD and forcing everyone to use Bitcoin instead. So they're not fighting for their right to use fiat; they're fighting to deprive others of the right to use cryptos.

After all these internet related scams, it is very difficult to convince the older generation that Bitcoin is not a scam. I have faced this issue in my country (India). Here the media is also spreading FUD against Bitcoin, by claiming that it is a multi-trillion internet scam. Lack of support from the government makes matters worse. However, it is easy to convince the youngsters, as they are more open to new technology. But the problem is that these younger people hardly have any surplus funds, while the pensioners have significant amounts that can be diverted to crypto.

Strange news coming in. Prasidh Krishna has been added to the extended squad for the 4th test. Doesn't make any sense, right? All the Indian pacers are in such great form, and I can't foresee Prasidh getting a spot unless one of them getting injured. However there are rumors that Ravindra Jadeja's knee injury is a concern and he is not 100% fit. In that case Ashwin may replace Jadeja. But I don't see any change to the pace lineup. I don't know about the batsmen, but I would like SKY to replace Ajinkya Rahane.
328  Economy / Economics / Re: Bullish or nuts? Fidelity predicts $100M bitcoin in 2035 on: August 31, 2021, 03:55:48 AM
There is about 13.5 years left to 2035, middle of it is 14 years away. So when we consider that, I think it is not impossible, sure it looks a bit impossible from here because that is a huge increase, but I always believed that bitcoin would continue to go up forever, eventually to 100 million as well. Will it be that soon? I am not so sure, I know it will be few million dollars at least in 14 years that is guaranteed in my brain (do not buy just because I said so) but 100 million and few million are different things.

So for example, if bitcoin is 5.7 million dollars by 2035 I would not be shocked, that would be expected for me and that's fine, however if it is 100 million then I would be a little surprised because even though I believe it will be 100+ million "one day" that is not this soon, I am expecting it to be 2040+ for that to happen honestly.

Are you not being a bit far too optimistic, when you predict $5.7 million per coin by 2035? For that, the global economy needs to collapse completely and the fiat currencies need to get wiped out. Even $5.7 million would mean a market cap in excess of $100 trillion, which is greater than the M1 monetary supply right now. Factoring in the inflation rate up to 2035, it may be possible to reach that figure. But again, it needs a complete replacement of fiat currencies. Is that a realistic scenario?
329  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 31, 2021, 03:21:35 AM
I was just watching the news on "Sunrise" on chanel seven and there's a (typical storm in a breakfast news tea cup) over the cricketers who have flown into Brisbane and been put into Luxury Hotel Quarantine.

I couldn't following what the problem is supposed to be, but the reporters were foaming at the mouth about the arrangements made for the cricketers.

The Australian government has got very strict with the quarantine requirements, as the delta variant is spreading throughout the country. Even aboriginal communities in the remote outback have reported infections. Now they are reporting more than 1,000 cases per day (for much of 2021, the daily number of new cases was in single digits). Same is the situation in New Zealand, but they are not as worse as Australia. Still, it is a big blow for the overhyped "New Zealand model" under Jacinda Ardern. Despite being the most remote country in the world, they are unable to spread the COVID 19 spread there.
330  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why such high fees in ETH? on: August 30, 2021, 06:16:34 AM
It is actually funny. A lot of the Ethereum supporters were claiming that ETH 2.0 will result in lower transaction fee for Ethereum. And almost one year has passed since they started the implementation of ETH 2.0. Right now the transaction fee for ETH remains almost 20 times that of Bitcoin ($4 vs $0.20). I am actually surprised by the fact that a lot of the projects are still sticking with ETH, rather than migrating to the other (more technologically advanced) chains such as BSC or ADA. I guess they need a trigger to do that?
331  Economy / Economics / Re: Ekonomi Pakistan Akan Krisis Taliban? on: August 30, 2021, 05:55:35 AM
It seems that the economic impact in Pakistan has nothing to do with helping the Taliban, because Pakistan itself is in economic crisis than before, in Afghanistan there are several countries that have helped the Taliban like Turkey, China and even the US, but they are not affected by their economy because they have helped Afghanistan or the Taliban

Other countries such as Turkey and Qatar have also helped the Taliban (although in an indirect manner). But these countries are safe from any sanctions or embargoes, because they are economic powerhouses. Both the US and Russia need Turkey on their side, to maintain the monopoly on natural gas supplies to the European Union. And Qatar is the largest supplier of LNG right now. Pakistan doesn't have any such economic leverage. They are mostly dependent on remittance payments from the middle-east and that's why they could be in a greater danger.
332  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: August 30, 2021, 05:37:29 AM
Public awareness is really needed in a pandemic like this. they should have more confidence in the government in power and not easily believe in fake news like that. there is no need to hesitate to receive the vaccine because the vaccine has gone through several stages of very strict trials.

This is the problem. Some of the vaccines were approved before the phase III clinical trials were completed. Also, a lot of people (many of them influential in the social media) have spread false rumors about vaccination. The Brazilian president even claimed that if someone takes a vaccine, then he will be converted to a crocodile. And globally, it is estimated that 99.5% of the deaths were reported among people who haven't received two doses of the vaccine. Those who spread rumors against the vaccines are partly responsible for these deaths.
333  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your first bitcoins came from.. (faucets aside) on: August 29, 2021, 01:52:59 PM
I got my first coins from bounty campaign tokens (received tokens and converted them to BTC and ETH). And back then (2017), it was possible to get some sizable reward from bounty campaigns. The situation got worse by mid-2018, when the failure rate reached 95%. Fortunately I had enough activity and rank by then to join signtaure campaigns that made the payment in Bitcoin. Even then, I was earning only around $10 per week from these campaigns. And then the exchange rates increased in 2020/21. $10 worth of Bitcoin in 2018 is worth $200 in 2021.
334  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador rolls out 200 Bitcoin ATMs in a bid to speed-up nationwide adoption on: August 29, 2021, 01:38:58 PM
Only the US and Canada have more Bitcoin ATMs per 100`000, and not all of them are two-way. El Salvador is a poor country where in 2017 only 34% of the population used Internet, despite their low average age. If the ATMs turn out to be popular they can always order more.

Also, you don't necessarily need an ATM to covert your fiat to cryptocurrency (or vice versa). There are dozens of centralized exchanges available in El Salvador, on top of the DEX sites and P2P platforms. The banks can't ban cryptocurrency users, since now Bitcoin is the legal tender. BTW, all the shops and utilities are supposed to accept Bitcoin and therefore this issue of fiat to crypto conversion should not arise in the first place. And the first priority for Bitcoiners should be to educate ordinary Salvadorians on how to use Bitcoin, rather than setting up ATMs and kiosks.
335  Economy / Economics / Re: Is there a possibility of a Country to ban access to Crypto games? on: August 29, 2021, 01:25:20 PM
I live in a country where porn is banned. So this doesn't sound much impractical. It is entirely another topic whether such bans can be implemented or not. Here everyone is using VPN to access banned sites and so far the government hasn't been able to do much about it. And I guess crypto-games are much lower in priority for the regime. In most of the third world countries, the governments have a habit of trying to control the population. They want to decide what the people watch, eat and invest. And trust me, I am not residing in a socialist nation (at least as per the official classification).
336  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant on: August 29, 2021, 01:13:45 PM
His biggest fight was against Triple G which he won via split decision, I wish we can see another fight like that where the match is even and just a few points are the deciding factor in the end to declare the winner. During that fight, Triple G was the favorite and Canelo was the underdog, I guess we will not see the same odds in his coming fights.

https://www.si.com/boxing/2017/09/15/canelo-alvarez-gennady-golovkin-odds-favorite-betting-line

However, according to https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshkatzowitz/2020/03/17/canelo-alvarez-vs-gennadiy-golovkin-3-odds-show-canelo-as-a-large-betting-favorite/.. if there's a trilogy, Canelo would be the heavy favorites.

No surprise there. Gennady Golovkin is nearing 40 and his body and reflexes are not the same as it was in 2017. And I can remember the first fight, when GGG showed a lot of fatigue towards the end (but still he outplayed Canelo in at least 8 of the 10 initial rounds). The same happened in 2018 as well. Now there is not much of a chance for rematch, as Golovkin has fallen out of favor with Golden Boy Promotions. He is currently under a deal with DAZN for a total of 6 fights and won't be able to take part in a rematch with Canelo until the deal expires.
337  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 29, 2021, 01:01:11 PM
Zimbabwe vs Ireland second t20 match innings breaks.. Zimbabwe collect 152 Runs Lossing 5 wickets . Milton shimba collects 46 runs and ryan burl 37 runs .. it's very tough to win for Ireland changing 152 Runs. But cricket completely game of uncertainty. Everything can possible in the match.

Once again pathetic performance by Ireland. If they perform this poorly at home, then I have to say that they have zero chances to advance from the qualifying stage in the T20 World Cup. Zimbabwe were in dire straits when Regis Chakabva got out. They were 64/5. I expected Ireland to bowl out their opponents below 100. But then Milton Shumba and Ryan Burl just butchered the Irish bowlers in the last 5 overs. 59 runs came from the last five overs. What is happening with Ireland nowadays?
338  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum remains the king of altcoins on: August 29, 2021, 12:49:22 PM
My biggest concern about Ethereum is that it's gap between Cardano is narrowing down. ETH still has a market cap that is manytimes that of Cardano, but ADA made a lot of gains recently. And another coin that needs to be mentioned here is the Binance Coin (BNB). The Binance Smart Chain is also growing in popularity and in the near future it can pose a great deal of challenge to Ethereum. The ETH developers are still in their slumber and are doing hardly anything to make their platform better than ADA/BNB.
339  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why such high fees in ETH? on: August 29, 2021, 12:37:36 PM
I guess yesterday it was an outlier. Just now I checked the Ethereum Gas Tracker, and for the low priority transactions the average fee stands at 49 gwei (around $3). But in the long term, it will just accelerate the move towards other alternatives, such as Cardano. The high fee level and the disappointing rollout of ETH 2.0 were the main reasons why Cardano went up by so much in the recent months. During the past 12 months, the exchange rate has gone up by more than 30 times, and among the top-10 coins only Dogecoin had a better return.
340  Economy / Economics / Re: Setelah 1 Tahun Virus Covid 19 on: August 29, 2021, 12:25:17 PM
The main problem now is that very little time has passed since the beginning of the pandemic. 2 years, in fact, is very little to get a real, comprehensive picture of the situation. The same statistics are kept differently in different countries. What can we say about the real effectiveness of vaccines that have been developed "on the knee", plus the appearance of mutations. Yes, there was not very positive news about the increase in the incidence, and this is attributed to new mutations. On the other hand, today medicine has already received a "feedback"; a stable section of the genetic code of the virus was also recently isolated, which will help to develop / modify vaccines and fight mutations much more efficiently ...
Now the situation reminds me a little of the situation with the outbreak of the influenza virus ("Spanish flu") at the beginning of the 20th century, at the beginning there was also the highest mortality rate, there were several global outbreaks, but now we treat the flu with essentially one pill, or preliminary vaccination

I don't know whether you can compare Spanish Flu with COVID 19. The mortality rate was much higher for the Spanish flu (at least when compared to the original strain of the virus). And during the Spanish Flu, it was mostly young and healthy people who died from the infection. It is just the reverse with COVID 19. More than 90% of the deaths are among the elderly (the proportion of younger people dying from COVID is higher for the delta strain).

Almost everyone in the world got infected with Spanish Flu and those who survived acquired natural immunity. But that is not the case with COVID. Those who got infected with the original strain again got infected with the delta strain and in some cases either required hospitalization or died.
