3221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kazakhstan cripping the bitcoin network on: January 28, 2022, 02:11:21 PM
While it is true that Kazachstan is one of the big miner nations, the entire internet shutdown as far as I understand it, is over. The hashrate has recovered and is doing quite well. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that shaky hands did more damage than the internet shutdown for miners in Kazachstan.

Whales just jumped on the opportunity to pour more gasoline in the fire and do a bit more damage so they could buy cheaper coins.

It was just a very successful FUD attempt. Nothing more.
3222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Neven's Law: Only a Decade Before Quantum Computers Hack Bitcoin? on: January 28, 2022, 01:09:58 PM
Bitcoin is being upgraded all the time. Why do you think that we would not see this coming and do something against it? Nobody is going to invent real quantum computers capable of doing an amazing feat such as that within a single day.

I see absolutely no reason to start worrying yet. Unless aliens land on our planet and give us amazing, mind boggling technology that would turn our world upside down, no, there will be no "surprises". Roll Eyes
3223  Economy / Economics / Re: IMF urges El Salvador to remove Bitcoin as legal tender on: January 27, 2022, 06:17:18 PM
Good to see these crooks getting nervous!  Grin

Thats a very very very good sign for Bitcoin. But I expect they will learn all too soon that Bitcoin is unstoppable. Try as they may, its already too late!

That being said, I think its a very irresponsible move and perhaps even a illegal action of the IMF to pressure anyone into something. Since when is the IMF allowed to exert political pressure on countries? I think thats a very serious breach for a "fund". I am hoping to see legal action from the side of El Salvador sooner or later to put these IMF dogs in their place with the rest of the banker fanboys. Roll Eyes
3224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rep. Jim Himes of CT Allegedly Sneaks in Anti-Crypto Provision into Bill on: January 27, 2022, 11:33:24 AM
Jim Himes, a Democratic congressional representative of Connecticut, has allegedly masterminded sneaking in a provision into the America Competes Act that potentially gives the Secretary Treasury the unilateral power to stop cryptocurrency exchanges from providing liquidity for cryptocurrencies - essentially shutting them down. Here is Jerry Brito of Coin Center on Twitter:

https://twitter.com/jerrybrito/status/1486349099314130952

"Included in the America COMPETES Act just introduced in the House, and which will very likely pass in some form, is a provision that would be disastrous not just for cryptocurrency but for privacy and due process generally."

[...]

"The so-called 'special measures' provision  (proposed by @jahimes) would essentially give the Treasury Secretary unchecked and unilateral power to ban exchanges and other financial institutions from engaging in cryptocurrency transactions. How would it do this?"

He should be voted out!

What he would effectively be doing is destroying the centralized cryptocurrency exchanges but also giving more incentive and a much larger boost to the DeFi sector. I see that as a good thing. Centralization has no place in crypto! Sooner or later, we will phase it out with privacy coins and Defi. Even if there is a fiat disconnect, the crypto world is already much too large to be destroyed. So basically it will become a split paradigm with crypto slowly becoming the real money and Fiat becoming extinct.

No problems there.
3225  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buy low, Sell high? on: January 27, 2022, 11:14:57 AM
It sounds like to me that this entire thread is about people who are trying to convince themselves that there will be no surprise pump but rather another dump. This kind of thinking leads you to FOMO and trading on emotions. Two things you must avoid.

If you invested at the top, I would preferably stay at the top. At this point, think of it as a long term investment.

If your hands are itching to make a profit, wait for your expected "dump" and buy the dip or buy more coin now. Just don't sell on a loss!
3226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People claiming themself satoshi on: January 26, 2022, 07:03:31 PM
There are way too many egomaniacs in this world but I do have a sneaking suspicion that Craig might be a trap to lure the real Satoshi out. Although that has not worked until now and I doubt it will work anytime sooner or later.

For all we know Satoshi might just be some government trying to overthrow the monopoly of the US and/or other countries on their fiat currencies. Or it might just be some random guy.

We might never know, but whats important is Bitcoin itself. I think thats Satoshis message.
3227  Economy / Economics / Re: One nation one currency... on: January 26, 2022, 06:41:35 PM
From the beginning of humans, we have created boundaries between ourselves by lots of conflict over the century. Our greediness and eagerness for more power make us intelligent animals. Humans are capable of their own destruction. But what if those never happen? what will be the scenario of the current world if there is only one nation and one currency and humans invest their full strength for human resource development and the development of science and technology? What do you think is that even possible in the future and what will be the benefits and inconvenience of it?

I think that human desire is the only thing fueling the future for us. Whether its greed for money, desire to keep on living, desire to feel as happy as possible or psychological desires that give the same dopamine rush to the human brain, its all a pre-programmed "instinct" to want more and more. And the only way we can get more is by becoming more complex, more advanced and in the end, whether it may be our destruction or our only way to survive, remains to be seen.

I just hope we don't embarrass our species in front of any higher beings watching us....
3228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: An advanced technology could kill crypto? on: January 26, 2022, 05:52:20 PM
Of course any advanced technology is only advanced for the time being. At some point it becomes old and redundant. This holds true for anything. Will crypto exist in 1000 years? I doubt it. Will the internet exist in 1000 years? I doubt it. What will exist in 1000 years will be the next evolutions of crypto and the internet. What that will look like is impossible to tell now.

If youre asking if todays crypto can be destroyed with advanced tech? I have yet to see such a tech. It does not exist. So, no.

Well, it finally happened. I am Corona positive.

This is almost as much of a bummer as BTC not reaching 100k last year. Angry

So what we are seeing is the result of the Russian crypto ban fud + Kazachstan internet shutdown + WW3 scares + interest rate fud.

Thats a lot of FUD for one month. If China invades Taiwan and Ukraine gets invaded then I am seeing really nice buying prices for this year. 10k would be nice.

The FUD about Ukraine is misleading as well, NATO has already "invaded" Ukraine long ago, the question is what Russia will do about it as NATO move closer to their borders and continues to provoke?

100k is coming, one way or another. The question is not if, but when.

Agreed.

Putin is a very smart man. He won't be provoked into starting a war that the US so desperately wants.

3233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Environmental Impact Of Bitcoin Donations on: January 21, 2022, 05:33:20 PM
The problem is not with Bitcoin, what most people seem to not be able to understand, but rather the problem is the fact that we still do not have a solution on efficiently creating clean energy. Even if Bitcoin and all Crypto mining disappeared from one day to another, we would still be creating filthy energy that harms our environment. So what we need is a clean energy solution. And when we have that, we will also have clean crypto mining.

But people are too greedy. They would prefer to keep burning coal and breathing toxic stuff while the polar caps slowly disappear and our natural protection against the suns cancerous radiation fades away.

I see hope in fusion energy. Soon we will have the technology.
3234  Economy / Speculation / Re: Market sentiments ? on: January 21, 2022, 02:19:53 PM
Again sudden dip of  $5000 in a few hours?
You shouldn't look at raw numbers, you should look at percentages. For example the recent drop which was about $3000 is just a 7% drop which isn't as big as you think it is.
The only thing that makes it significant was the fact that it broke the strong resistance at $40k.

Quote
How can we explain it: Are bad actors manipulating it or it just the market sentiments towards downward making such huge pricefall?
It is both. There has been a lot of manipulation lately but also the market sentiment is very negative and people have been shorting the hell out of bitcoin even when it is not going down!!

I agree. Looking at the number will only cause you to panic, if anything. This is dangerous and should be avoided like the plague! A 5000 Dollar drop at 40k is pretty meaningless compared to a 5000 Dollar drop at 10k.

As I can tell, we are getting pushed down for two reasons. First, obviously the correction has been a long time coming. What comes up must go down. Secondly, at the same time as the correction (dip), we are seeing bad news and spooky rumors. Kazachstan miners internet getting shut off, Russian banks spreading FUD about regulations they wish they could implement in the future, and a multitude of "traders" spooking newbies with useless "predictions"..

Just hodl, friend. Buy more at the bottom.
3235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is really controlling the Bitcoin market. on: January 21, 2022, 11:13:57 AM
The more people adopt Bitcoin, the less "control" from single entities. Although I very much doubt anyone has a lot of control over Bitcoin. But then again, even if there was a someone in charge, we would probably be able to see certain signs and clues. Bitcoin is too decentralised and too spread. Unlike fiat, there is absolutely no way to retroactively gain control of it or to hack it. The only way you could really be in control is if you planned for it in the earliest days of bitcoin when it was still new and unadopted.
3236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Man lost everything to Crypto on: January 21, 2022, 10:21:28 AM
Real-time incident of an user who trained himself to be a trader. Got addicted and lost everything. Steven is the person who kept adding more cryptocurrency to his portfolio. In an interview he mentioned drug, cryptocurrency and alcohol has destroyed his life. In the beginning Steven knew what he's doing. Later he ended up losing around 5-10 bitcoins. He don't know any information about the addresses and now struggling to recover it.

He says trading is gambling. He has learnt by his own and has always been a good trader. Now he spends day in one of the rehabilitation centre in Scotland.

Data : Man Lost Everything to Crypto

If a person doesn't buy shitcoins and carefully trades without selling/buying on emotions and only trades Bitcoin, then this would have never happened. A lot of people think this is a crypto problem but really, its more of a your-own-fault problem. If you treat trading the same way you would treat gambling, then you have already lost. Its not gambling, its investing. If you want to invest, don't back out.

Trading and making profits is fun. But it becomes a hodl game when you get hit by a dump. Nothing to do with gambling.
3237  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🦉 Owl.games 🦉 Web 3.0 Crypto Casino & Sportsbook - BTC-Metamask-Walletconnect on: January 21, 2022, 07:54:20 AM

their marketing team should be aware that many casinos have been doing a lot of promotions constantly in order to have customers, I think they created the signature campaign here on the forum so they can have customers without having to resort to doing a lot of promotions which is always the center of problems because it attracts abusers of bonuses and promotions

I think that Owl.Games is doing the right marketing for their current userbase. Promotions can be indeed a very powerful tool but if all your leads or most of them are coming from one place, for example Bitcointalk, then promotions don't have a large impact. I believe its best to first create some powerful lead funnels before thinking about making promotions or newcomer bonus's. Owl.Games is following a good marketing strategy as I can tell.
3238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Investment against inflation on: January 20, 2022, 04:11:33 PM
Seeing as Bitcoin was created as a deflationary money system, it is a very good investment against fiat inflation, I would say. However that can also go both ways. So if for some reason, the US government decided to start "burning" dollars as to increase the buying power of each dollar, then by contrast, this would drive the price of Bitcoin down and could also push people invested in bitcoin into a panic sell.

But I doubt that will happen.
3239  Economy / Speculation / Re: ₿ not going below 40.000 (probably) on: January 20, 2022, 03:28:39 PM
$40000 USD is more of a psychological boundary rather than a steady support, if you look at the fibonacci support from weekly. If anything we broke through the 44k support a while ago so after a rise back to 50-53k I see another dip towards 25-30k after which we can resume the bull market towards 100k. Either way, I will be hodling the entire way as I have been so far. The technical analysis is just a tool for predicting a good buying point, to me.
3240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where DeFi is headed on: January 20, 2022, 11:54:56 AM
The biggest issue that I see for the future of DeFi is lack of volume on decentralised exchanges. While this is beginning to become less of an issue with aggregators like 1inch, its still cheaper to trade on centralised exchanges in some cases. And in other cases its almost impossible to trade without losing a huge amount of coins because the price is too high, due to the lack of volume.

So basically, I think we will see better aggregation systems and more DeFi partnerships soon.
