2501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Was the coupling of Bitcoin to fiat a mistake? on: July 07, 2022, 08:19:17 AM
Ok, let's measure Bitcoin's value in Big Macs. You would still find that yesterday it was 1,000 Big Macs and today it's 700 Big Macs, and tomorrow it's 1100 Big Macs. Bitcoin doesn't crash because people choose to look at its price in USD or any other fiat currency, it crashes because it is a risky, unstable asset with a purely speculative value.

If all governments banned Bitcoin, it would only be a currency for darknet markets, so in some sense it would be closer to the cryptoanarchist utopia, but it would also mean zero chance of mass adoption.

The price manipulation from the governments side is a huge force in the inflation of fiat. A big mac may be worth some amount of money but that price will rise the more the government prints money, making the money already in circulation more worthless. And history shows us that deflation is not in the books when it comes to fiat and the government that controls it. Why? Because it is not profitable. Slowly extorting money out of the people, thats profitable. And if you do it slowly enough nobody asks questions. Of course supply and demand play a huge role even if fiat did not exist, but if we replaced fiat with Bitcoin, that artificial price increase of the Bigmac would not happen.

Im just hoping fiat gets replaced by Bitcoin sooner than later.

I do not require you to empower me.... I am empowering.

Yeah, I keep hearing the same thing from women in my life on an almost daily basis, in a multitude of different ways.

And here I am once again, googling for over half an hour: "how to make women shut up".

Life is hard for men.  Cry

I would recommend everyone to avoid that "strategy" and rather just walk away from gambling for the day when you start noticing that rise in blood pressure and adrenaline. Thats a strategy. Grin

There is no right strategy in gambling, everyone will lose money in the game, sooner or later it will happen, I think all experience the same thing about the Martingale strategy.
Every time we play gambling, there is always adrenaline in us and of course the pressure to continue the game becomes very emotional, plus losing blood pressure will increase emotions uncontrollably and in the end we get out of line that cannot be avoided, but by regulating control we don't know the limit until when, for example, losing or winning still limits must be applied.

That sounds perhaps a bit too pessimistic? No offense. Its important to know where your borders are and the only true way you can find that out is by testing them. Some tests are dangerously risky, some are not. But once you find and define your limits (borders), you should be able to develop your own ways to make gambling a better experience for you. Some strategies can include averaging your losses, setting boundaries for how much you are willing to take home in winnings before you stop gambling and there are many more. They all serve to minimize the risks of continous gambling and of course, eventually losing.

Some of us were lucky to get two. Even nutildah got one, despite being absent for a long time and (AFAIK) not joining the ridicule of nullius' latest sockpuppet.

Uncle nutildah had three before it was cool to have two.

I feel slightly insulted by the copy paste red trust rather than the red trust itself. Noobius did not even bother to write an original sentence but rather keeps parroting his old accusations which he has made against basically every person who truthfully points out to him how much of a jackass he actually is. I think we all often use the martingale technique when playing and I've experienced a loss that drained the contents of the savings I collected in one year just to play one game, any strategy if a player can't control himself will end up losing. no matter how much capital he has in the end the bookie wins. this is a fact. I'm not the only one who has lost a lot, I think everyone here who likes gambling has almost the same experience.

I applied the same strategy and also ended up losing my savings which I regret until now. Yes, most of us have the same experience especially when we're overwhelmed and we are not able to control our emotions. Too much excitement and adrenaline rush when playing sometimes leads us to wrong decision of betting too much.

I agree, I myself have not made any successes with the martingale technique and in fact, I would not go as far as to call that an actual strategy. Rather the martingale technique is the result of rage-gambling whenever you lost a lot of money and now become desperate with emotion. Anyone who knows what I am talking about would never call it a strategy rather a consequence of gambling while under great emotional distress.

I would recommend everyone to avoid that "strategy" and rather just walk away from gambling for the day when you start noticing that rise in blood pressure and adrenaline. Thats a strategy. Grin

What is "crypto?"  Does it have some kind of relationship to my lil precious?

crypto-
/ˈkrɪptəʊ/

Definition:

Crypto is the short form for cryptocurrency. Its what the cool kids call Bitcoin because it sounds cooler. Unfortunately this also leads to them buying fake scam coins which are not Bitcoin.

By the way, I still believe that any of us have the potentiality to mindrust, and surely any of us should hope that if we do end up mindrusting, it would be some relatively small portion (less than 33% perhaps?) of the BTC stash - rather than 100%.. but of course, any panic might cause us to develop way more confidence in the wrong direction than the situation merits.... so for sure, there is frequently some kind of mindrust inclinations in each of us.. even if we believe we have our finances and psychology sufficiently hedged/balanced.

I think Mindrust mindrusted us all into not-mindrusting. After seeing what happened to Mindrust, I am never going to mindrust again. Even if the feeling of mindrusting comes back during a scary dip. Tongue

It seems like we receive various kinds of vague statements from several of these companies that largely seem to come after the public has already found out that they are "in trouble."

So one of the patterns seems to be that the company will amorphously report the matter, while creating the impression that everything is fine, and with the passage of time, we end up finding out more and more and more that everything is quite "far from fine."

Sometimes it appears that the company is really fucked, but they are potentially going to be able to prevent their customers from losing funds, but surely other times it becomes quite clear that the situation is much further gone, and beyond any kind of recovery because they don't even ha enough funds to cover the customers, either.  I would imagine that the ones being assessed by FTX or even by other possibly sufficiently capitalized companies are not going to buy the company unless there is at least enough capital to cover a vast majority of the client/customer deposits, and that can take a bit of time to figure out how bad is bad.

2511  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Was the coupling of Bitcoin to fiat a mistake? on: July 05, 2022, 02:11:43 PM
Bitcoin price is first and foremost measured in fiat, mainly the dollar.  Cry

Bitcoin is bought and sold with fiat since the beginning. Was that a tragic misstep in the evolution of Bitcoin? Would we have it better if all governments outright banned the purchase/sale of BTC with fiat?

If we had a fiat-decoupled version of Bitcoin which could be traded for services and goods without a third party currency, how would that look? Obviously the government would have no power over people accepting BTC for their goods and services (other than intimidating people with punishments, if caught).

From my observations, the more the regulators go against Bitcoin, the more it evolves into what seems to be a liberated global currency. By my thinking, the rebellious nature of the Bitcoin community against the old, corrupt generation of money and its corrupt services (like banks) is what drives the evolution of Bitcoin. So why not let that nature loose?

In such a reality, I think the purchasing power of Bitcoin would see the same rise in value from its inevitable adoption but without the dumps caused by the broken fiat economy and stock market crashes.

1 BTC = 1 BTC

Here is a very insightful, helpful and easy to understand video on youtube from the user "3blue1brown": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBC-nXj3Ng4. I find that video does a great job in detailling the technology behind Bitcoin and how it works so that anyone can understand it, even if they have absolutely no scientific or coding background.

The youtube user in question makes a lot of mathematics/science videos and explains difficult concepts in a very easy to understand kind of way.

I think anyone regardless of their Bitcoin knowledge or seniority, even as an veteran on Bitcointalk, should watch this video at least once in their lives. Even if just to freshen up their own knowledge without having to sit through all the minute details of how blockchain actually works on a mathematical/coders level.
2514  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Inherited gambling on: July 05, 2022, 10:39:44 AM
I believe that even if a person has a genetic predisposition to gambling, it is not a particular problem because a person can control his actions and refrain from negative experiences.

In my opinion we choose our own destiny and what to do in life. If a gambler blames his losses on his genes, most likely he is afraid to admit his mistakes and tries to blame someone else for his mistakes.

I would not say that. In fact everything we do is controlled by the actions of the chemicals in our brain. The illusion of control is completely false and arbitrary. So whenever I hear of addiction, primarily gambling addiction, to stay on topic, I do not believe that the mentioned gambler can control his actions and refrain from negative experiences as much as some people believe that he can.

As I said in a previous post, its all really boiled down to brain chemicals and brain dysfunctions which, if you are unlucky, result in lifetime gambling addictions which do not go away with simple self help or "strict self discipline".

So saying we choose our own destiny is kind of a trap. People who need help get ignored because others perceive it as "their own fault" even though its not really.

Jesus Christ, another shooting in America? At this point, Americans should be accepted by other countries (the ones they haven't yet bombed) as refugees on the grounds that the USA is too dangerous to live in. well at least it wasn't a cop, firing 42 warning rounds into an unarmed persons back, this time.

Even if some official social media account of any of the institution promote cryptocurrencies, giveaways or NFT, don't fall for it. By the time make a clear analysis and go further. Yesterday the British Army's Social media accounts were hacked and more scams were promoted. It is always good to stay safe as hackers are always in search of possible ways to scam common people.

British Army’s social media accounts hacked by crypto scammers

This is exactly why I created the following thread, in hopes that people (mostly newbies who do not really understand the dangers that they are in, yet) would take my advice seriously: very simple OPSEC tips of my own on how to keep your coins safe

I highly recommend everyone to at least skim through the text and try to remember it the next time they are putting themselves in financial danger. Especially in the realm of crypto, where scammers are abundant and extremely clever.

Although this is meant for crypto newbies, I am amazed at the lax security of the British Army. Its an embarrassment, if you ask me.
2517  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does bitcoin dump have any impact on gamblers ? on: July 05, 2022, 09:39:20 AM
Gamblers also suffer on market crash, there are some crypto gambling platforms that accept crypto but doesn't convert its value to $ value. While market price declines, we have to bet higher coin amounts for same payout. This is huge trouble especially when market goes down %60 and gamblers have to cover market losses before withdrawal on wining streak.
If that's the case for crypto gamblers, maybe they're better off leaving gambling for a while and saving their coins by just holding on to them. I guess it will be good for gamblers than them losing more of their coins on gambling either in value for money or in amount. But if they haven't been able to leave gambling, maybe they can convert their coins into stable coins, and then they can deposit them to a casino that accepts stable coins to gamble so they can continue gambling.
the main reason why today many gambling sites provide deposit and wd options with stablecoins is so that those who are afraid of price volatility on BTC or ETH can use stable coins as a choice. so that there are still a lot of people playing on crypto gambling sites.
If the market situation is irregular, I have several options, including using stable coins to deposit, depositing using altcoins or sticking with BTC or ETH, or the last one is not gambling and just waiting for the market to return to normal.

Maybe people have their own preferences so they can decide the best they can do during an irregular market situation. Or there are gamblers like me who do nothing or gamble at all.

Good thing you mentioned stable coins, I forgot that I wanted to say something about that as well. It seems to me that even investing in the hodling of stablecoins for gambling or whichever reason, is risky in itself and could also vaguely be called gambling.

As we have seen with stablecoins like LUNA UST, there is absolutely no promise that said stablecoins will result in a safe haven as you go about your day. In fact, it could all become worthless from one second to the other. Just like any other cryptocurrency.

It might be a safer looking option than other crypto but its still far from safe.

I am guessing the reason why he created death_wish was to collect sympathy by lying about his margin trading losses. Or maybe that is his strategy of covertly begging for coin on WO? Now he even resorts to fraud... Sad.

Extremely pathetic, either way. Nullius is dishonest and a coward.

I wonder if he does this often. Geez, at least I no longer feel sorry for him. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

death_wish is nullius

Even if you ignore the uniquely pompous writing style, it's quite obvious by now that when he couldn't extort bitcoins out of you on WO (as death_wish) he's gonna trollpuppet you now (as nullius).

Ahh... The puzzle pieces fall into place.

His schizophrenic pomposity, narcissistic personality and unjustified sense of self importance does mirror that of death_wish's 1 to 1. The fact that he does not deny it only adds further credibility to your assertion.

Wow. Now I just feel sorry for the guy. He keeps creating new accounts but can't hide his true self.

Not only did he start his karenistic screeching about hating beggars on WO and on this thread but he himself begs for coin. What a hypocrite.

Nullius is seemingly indeed an irredeemable cunt.
