341  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Who is an educated Person? on: January 03, 2024, 09:06:30 PM
Well according to the advanced learners dictionary, it describes an educated person as someone who has a very high standard of learning, while the Oxford dictionary states  that an educated person is someone that have been to a school, be it primary, secondary or tertiary, we all know that education plays an important role in the forum, cause one ought to know how to read and write properly to be able to participate in the activities going on here.

Educational dey in two ways, we get education wey get to do with school and we get education wey get to do with street. The education of school go make you fit dey employable by your worker but the one of street  get wetin go make you go far for life. Smartness dey come from street as na dat one dey make you learn how to survive for life and come out triumphant.

Having just one side or the education wey be school own no dey make sense again as even your lecturer go tell you for university make you find hard work do as the labour market no dey enough time accommodate all the graduate wey university deh produced yearly. An educated person for me na person wey dun receive both school education and life (street) education.

However in my understanding asides from knowing how to read and write, which describes someone educated, i think an educated person can also be described as someone that can set defenses around themselves against the world, most of us here come from or lives in areas that's unsecured.

An educated person no dey for only book but you can be educated and still not been able to protect yourself in your environment. Been security conscious no be been educated. We get plenty people for community wey dey security conscious but dem no dey educated. Education dey more about make you know how to read and write and fit communicate effectively to the other person to understand then we go come get other forms of education but the main thing na the one I talk so.
342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin investment is kind on: January 03, 2024, 06:03:10 PM
I want to start having my own bitcoin with the payment of my vehicle parts, I don't know if mempool of bitcoin I have being hearing will still continue by next year 2024 because I sense that it's what will bridge people not to make a payment with bitcoin if i open by January 16th, because all the necessary arrangements has already put in place and  awaiting for January 16th to open officially.

We're incharge of  making Bitcoin accepted and popular in countries provided the government hasn't banned Bitcoin in our jurisdiction. You have done well by planning to accept Bitcoin in your shop, although it's a small gesture but it'll contribute its part to the adoption of Bitcoin in the society. If everybody does what you're thinking of doing we'll have achieved Bitcoin been accepted locally and then what'll be left is for the government to give it's approval.

As for the mempool, the congestion would keep been there until the craze around the BRC-20 tokens on the Bitcoin Blockchain is reduced but it seems more tokens are been launched so we won't be seeing reductions in the congestion soon. Ordinals are trending at the moment, probably other NFT/tokens will get hyped as ordinals keep becoming a success.

The high fees of Bitcoin would definitely affect people that have interest in paying in Bitcoin but there are alternatives that you can use to keep receiving payments especially when they're small payments that paying fees for will be weird as the fees will be bigger than the amount you're paying for the goods that you want to buy or service you'll be receiving.
343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is bitcoin stability important? on: January 03, 2024, 04:13:20 PM
I think promoting Bitcoin stability is partly a matter of avoiding the Alcoin crisis, major changes in cryptocurrency activity, high inflation and excessive volatility, and the Alcoin market. Volatility can increase uncertainty, hinder investment, hinder growth in Alcocent.
What is your opinion?

Bitcoin stability isn't that important, the instability is the strength of Bitcoin. We all knew about the instability before we decided to buy Bitcoin. The instability didn't stop us from investing in Bitcoin so it isn't a problem. It's the instability that make Bitcoin attractive to investors. Some set of people see the instability as an opportunity to trade Bitcoin to make profits. It's the instability that make the currency won't investing into for now because the other features isn't yet an important part of the currency (speaking about the means of payment part of Bitcoin).

Bitcoin doesn't need to be stable for it to be accepted asa means of payments, if Bitcoin was to lose it's characteristics of instability then it'll lose it's identity and would just be like other fiats. The high interest in Bitcoin has a lot to do with the fact that many people see Bitcoin as an asset to increase and stop their wealth.

There are more important things Bitcoin needs to tackle like the high fees, amount of transaction it can handle per block and the delay in confirmation. Bitcoin needs to be accepted as a global currency by more companies and merchants to establish its stand as a currency. Stability isn't the least problem of Bitcoin as we have to accept it the way it is and see it's instability as its strength instead of a weakness for Bitcoin.
344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rollercoaster of emotions. How to deal with? on: January 02, 2024, 06:26:32 PM
Hey everyone, I've been grappling with a question lately and would love to get your thoughts. How much of my monthly income should I realistically invest in Bitcoin, considering the emotional rollercoaster of the crypto market.

Out of my head without thinking much I'll say 10%, 10% set aside monthly to invest in Bitcoin won't disturb your finances and you'll still have enough to handle other bills and live comfortably but then again, I don't know how much you earn monthly so the question goes back to you, how much will you be willing to risk monthly to DCA into Bitcoin and won't get bothered with the market movements.

If you answer that with an amount then that's what you should be using to buy Bitcoin. After doing it for sometime and you get more comfortable with the market you can increase your purchasing amount or if you're not still confirmable, you should reduce the amount until you get to a point that you won't be concerned about what's happening to your invested money for now.

Quote
I understand the potential gains, but I'm also thinking about the stress of watching the market's frequent ups and downs. Seeing those price fluctuations can be a real thrill ride – exciting one moment and nerve-wracking the next. So, what's the sweet spot? How do I balance a smart investment percentage without getting overwhelmed by the market's volatility?

You have a problem, that's you're getting attached to your money too much and that's why you're monitoring the market, Do understand that you have invested the money and not looking to make profits in the next couple of minutes so you shouldn't be concerned about the price movement of the market until it's time when you planned to cashout your investments. Reduced your capital to amount that you can throw away for couples of drinks and you won't be moved, as I said, invest small and increase your capital as you get more comfortable with the market because you'll definitely get comfortable with more experience.
345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin have behaved like a fine wine 🍷 on: January 02, 2024, 05:46:22 PM
Right now, it's just a 14 years old teenager still trying to find it feet in terms of adoption all over the world.
But am really confidence that it will get even better from it value, popularity and adoption because it's a fine wine 🍷 that gets better with age.

Wine tastes better with age, the older they get the better they taste and the same thing can be said about Bitcoin because as it's getting older, it's price will increasing due to its characteristics of have a fixed supply and also the halving effect that reduced the circulation of Bitcoin coming into the market for trading. For a 14 years old invention and for a currency, I believe Bitcoin has done very for for itself but due to the high expectations from new investors it seems Bitcoin hasn't achieved anything and they keep asking for more.

With time Bitcoin would be unrecognizable as it'll become a better version of itself than its current form, more development will be added and the fees problem will become an old.news as it'll be no longer a problem. We're very early in the history of Bitcoin and it would be unwise for we to miss owning Bitcoin which is a more concrete point why we should be investing in Bitcoin. Buy and hodl but not being in a rush to sell for small profits that can't match the profit we would get from hodling for long like the early investors that's are still hodling upto this day.

Wine gets better with time, Bitcoin becomes profitable with time so the choice is yours to make it you'll be among those enjoying the profits of hodling Bitcoin or be on the other side.
346  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Know, But Can i Invest In Bitcoin? on: January 02, 2024, 05:06:08 PM
I told him how many dollars to invest and he said as much as I am willing to invest. I made up my mind that I would invest $500 but i am confused. I don't know much about Bitcoin so the person gave me the link to this website and suggest me to know about the various opinions of users on various topics. Since I see that Bitcoin is always discussed , I want your suggestions about my Bitcoin investment.

It's a good thing you already have the willingness to invest in Bitcoin but I won't recommend you drive into investing right away without knowing what you're investing into. You need to know what Bitcoin is so you'll comfortable when the price are fluctuating due to the volatility of the market and not to start panicking thinking you got yourself into a wrong investment. Bitcoin is a digital currency and a highly volatile one for that matter so the price is near stable. Dedicate your time to learning about Bitcoin by staying active on the forums especially the Bitcoin discussion section so you get useful information on how the industry is. You can also use other resources that I believe have been suggested to you to know more about Bitcoin.

Quote
Should I invest money with the suggestion of that guy? He told me that if I invest I will get good profit. He said, he will open my bitcoin wallet and help to buy bitcoins. Should I invest in bitcoin?

Never you make investment based on the suggestion of others no matter how experienced you think they're, they might be giving you suggestions based on their own strength but as a newbie you don't have their level of patience to hodl or extra money to handle things to make you avoid selling your Bitcoin when things get tough. You have to understand how to secure your wallet before you buy Bitcoin, you need to know which wallet is best to use so you don't regret your decision when it's time to sell and you can find the Bitcoin you stored because they have been stolen by hackers. You also don't need to invest all your money at the same time, you can DCA while you keep learning about Bitcoin.

350  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Bitcoin Deviated from The Vision of Satoshi? on: December 31, 2023, 05:24:05 PM
Look at the Bitcoin whitepaper once more: a peer-to-peer electronic payment system indeed. Was Satoshi really envisioning a payment system so widespread that it became a preferred way of paying for goods and services? What's happening today? Bitcoin is now more of an investment than a payment tool.

Samsung started as a grocery trading store but it's among the world leading providers of mobile phone in the world. Where we're today mightn't have been where satoshi envisioned but it has given Bitcoin the publicity it needed and that's an achievement that could have taken us centuries to achieve but we have done that in just a decade. As Bitcoin keep improving we'll achieved it been widely use as a currency more as satoshi wanted but this is a process and we have to believe in the process.

Bitcoin is still a currency but it's features are making it more appealing as a store of value (investment opportunity), that doesn't mean Bitcoin has stopped been a currency. As more countries adopt Bitcoin and more companies recognised it as a payment option, the use of Bitcoin as a currency will increase. You don't expect people to use Bitcoin as much as you have loved when there aren't enough institution to facilitate that.

Bitcoin hasn't deviated but its assets quality is what is been focused on and things would be different in the future when more adoption comes onto the industry and businesses that using Bitcoin more frequently. For the meantime what I think is important is for Bitcoin to not die. It still been relevent is a positive thing and gives room for more development and improvements.
351  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: earn from Bitcoin on: December 31, 2023, 04:57:50 PM
Sorry to bother the community, but it is a hard time for me now. I am really appreciated to your suggestions, help, instructions of How to earn from Bitcoin, including a job related to Bitcoin, mine, trading, or anything else.

Since you're on the forum, I'll suggest some things you can do here to earn you some Bitcoin. Learn a skills associated with the forum or the industry at large, some skills that can be use on the forum is community management skills and you can use those in managing a bounty, signature campaigns or ANN thread of project launching on the forum.

Don't be intimidated with starting because of other high ranked users you're seeing doing similar Jobs. They all started as novice before becoming the big name they're. Focus on learning and undergoing the job perfectly so you can create a brand for your account and get more projects to make use of your services on the forum.

Same thing apply to cryptocurrency related jobs outside the forum, look for what you want to do and learn the skills that you'll need to do that job perfectly then advertise your services on and off the forum. If you do your marketing right you'll start getting clients that'll recommend you to others and you'll be receiving or earning Bitcoin. Take your minds of signature camp as they aren't guaranteed way of earning, they can be stopped at anytime but if you learn a skills and use it wisely, you won't lack job both on and off the forum.
352  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do we spam on: December 31, 2023, 04:31:28 PM
However, it is the signature campaign managers' duty they appoint for their signature campaign. I saw they hire members who have earned at least 5 merits in the last 120 days which I consider is the worst requirement.

How is it the worst requirement when we have users that are producing quality contributions but aren't getting merits. We have people that takes earning of merits as a duty but we also have those that don't put too much attention on receiving merits yet they're not spammers. Some accounts has earned merits more than those that are contributing positively to the forum but that doesn't mean they're more of a quality poster. Boards that you're active in has a big role in the amount of merits that you'll receive considering both accounts are on the same level of quality. Don't use merit to judge the quality of an account as those with less merits can be a more quality posters than those with merit especially in the recent 120days.

Quote
Any member who is active in the forum should have earned at least 20 merits in the last 120 days. If they cannot, they should be kicked out. I see a lot of accounts who joined the campaign years ago and they have not earned much merit since then. But, they are still in the campaign. As long as they are on the campaign and getting paid for generating spam, they won't stop buddy! Managers could help a lot if they want.

How does earning 20 merit in the last 120 days qualify you as a quality posters? Just because a user haven't earned merits doesn't warrant him to be kicked out of a campaign and I'm glad managers aren't actively implementing that strategy as it'll only bring chaos to the forum. People will start doing unethical things to meet the requirements. Your post quality should be judged by your actual post quality and not merits. A users can be a spammer yet drop one quality topic and get alot of merits, keeping that user in a campaign over the other quality users just because he has more merit won't be a fair criteria.
353  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do we spam on: December 31, 2023, 09:56:01 AM
From the beginning I was wondering why people spam and I have not find any reason, do we think that spamming have any important effects to our account or its something that is being done intentional or unintentional, do we think from the theory of personification  what causes a spamming is when theirs a particular quota that we have to ascertain that make some of us to spam in order to complete our weekly quota or it's something that is being done willingly.

What causes spamming prior to the introduction of the merit system was because of people farming activities as they could rank up multiple accounts by just causing a nuisance on the forum but since the introduction of the merit system and activity only no longer improves your rank, the reason for spamming has changed, people spam because they want to meet weekly quota or they're hurting for merits. They think the more they write the greater their chances of getting merited as they have more contents out. People spam as a result of not understanding the discussion they're engaging with but just want to write something because their campaign say they should in order to get paid.

Quote
So I think that majorly the people that spam mostly is people that is controlling a numerous of account's and whenever they have a different account's they start writing a low quality post.

They can't do that in high paying campaign but only in bounties, if anybody is caught spamming, it's best they get reported to the campaign manager so they can get kicked out of the campaign for other people with better things to say to get a chance of earning while they contribute positively to the forum. The forum isn't against alts that aren't breaking any forum rules so let say you have multiple accounts and you can contribute to the forum without spamming, nobody will question you but if you're spamming with an excuse of having more than one account then you deserve to get both accounts tagged at least with a neutral to reduce your chances of getting accepted into a new campaign and disturbing the forum with your spams.
354  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Understand your wallet on: December 31, 2023, 09:37:07 AM
Non custodial wallet is a good wallet for storing bitcoin,  but it can look technical for some people. it is important to get to understand the features of the wallet.

How does a non constodial wallet look technical to people, the difference there is that you're in control of your Bitcoin so you have to keep the seed phrase safe, the wallets are as easy as other wallets to operate. Everything is basically spelled out for you so you don't have to be worried. Using a hardware wallet isn't that difficult as well, we have videos on the net that can teach you how to use any wallets so there's no excuse for saying a self constodial wallet looks difficult and that's why you're using a constodial wallet. The developers of the wallets has made them very simple that if you get directions on how to use them one time, they becomes very easy to use.

Quote
Also, exchange wallet some people don't even know about it, they only trade with it because peopple say something good about it, and no personal finding to know more about it.

Exchange wallet should never be an option for using to store your Bitcoin. Exchange wallet should only be used when you're trading. If you trust the exchange then use them to trade, you don't need to dig deeper for any other functions the wallets has. Only use them for trading and that's all, don't keep your coins in them for too long as a problem to the exchange automatically affects your Bitcoin. Exchange wallets are constodial and they aren't the best options to use when it comes to storing your Bitcoin.
355  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Don't fall victim in this season of Christmas and new year. on: December 31, 2023, 09:23:24 AM
Something terrible just happened to someone in my community that came with his new car and his family to celebrate the Christmas in the village but on his way to pick some of his friends that he has been with since on Thursday and, he was Kidnapp despite he didn't go out with his camera phone but the Kidnappers was demanding for #500,000 from the victim family before they later changed their mind based on the transaction text message they saw on the victim small phone and they changed the ransom from #500,000 to #10,000,000. And the Kidnappers empty the guy account before releasing him to his family and I hard that the guy has vow never to come home for any reason again.

Na who know you go do you, the planners of this kidnap no far from the guy and na one thing with village wey dey make plenty people dun dey decide not to go home for the Christmas anymore. People go just dey wait for you to come back to steal from you in various means. While their mate dey hustle through out the year, their own na to dey jobless dey wait for who to rob. Na incidents like this dey make people say no tell anybody your worth, make people just dey assumed and no dey participate in show off as you no know who dey envy you and plan evil for you.

Anything wey go increase your security dey encouraged, if deleting your alerts dem go help you do am but no also forget say this evil doers fit still access your bank transaction through your phones to know how much you worth so although deleting your alerts dem fit help you, e no be bulletproof solution. If you be person wey dey run plenty transaction in millions maybe not moving around with that particular phone fit help you or hiding it in your phone so no be everybody fit get access to an unless you approve am.

Las las na God dey save person and e better them take money than to take your life as that situation, nobody know how e for fit end so make we dey more prayerful and dey mindful of our expenses around friends and extended family as bad things like this no dey far from people wey dey around us as na dem dey plan am.
356  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Board selection as a newbie on: December 31, 2023, 08:55:53 AM
My post isn't a long one actually but I really want to know the Board to stick with as a newbie which will help me to grow my account and Knowledge also, I believe other Newbies Can gain from it.

Stick to the local board, then slowly improve your boards to Bitcoin Discussion, Beginners and help to get more exposures as you can use the knowledge you have gained to help other members. But if your hand never strong stay for this board and you go grow both in knowledge and other things. No rush go boards wey you no know anything about say you wan dey write. Another thing wey you fit do na to stay for board wey you get interest in. Are you a trader, stay for trading discussion boards. If you love politics na politics and society go fit you and so on. Avoid boards like gambling, altcoins and off topics as dem go waste your time in developing your account.

You'll hardly make quality posts in those boards as they're mostly generic conversations ongoing on those boards. Stay where the discussion there go sharp you into becoming a qualified posters. Na the topics wey dey a board go determine wetin you go dey feed yourself so always dey board wey no go bring your quality of conversation down. E also get some boards wey you go need to visit mostly for reading what is been discussed there so you fit dey add to your own knowledge and when time reach you fit dey join them dey discuss there too.

At the end of the day, the decision is yours to take as we no fit tell you where to dey write without you accepting it so look through the different board and choose those that are of interest to you either you want to learn from the discussion going on or you want to add to the discussion going on for those boards dem.

Although the thread wasn't necessary as we're barely a year old but I appreciate the effort put into creating the thread. Maybe if this thread been dey come out in our 5 years or 10 years anniversary na when I got see more importance to the thread but anyhow sha kudos for reminding us where we started from. This fight no start as Nigeria fight but as Africa and threads like this (No African local board) na wetin open our eyes to the struggle. Mpamaegbu come bring the appeal for a Nigerian board, dat time I dey full member and many of the OGs here still dey very lower rank. I remember because na when I reach Snr member wey I create that hangout thread and then we had a place to brings heads together and got what we have today.

If anybody here has to take credit na Mpamaegbu as na him open our eyes we come dey come together as one family and today we dun big like this. We still dey grow sha and small small we go get a bigger board wey go dey compete with the other boards but to do that we need more quality posters and as we dey post make we no only dey run am say we want complete weekly quota but to add quality to the board so anytime wey we request for anything them no go waste time approve am for us.

We dun try for ourselves and we go continue they push forward, all those bigger boards una dey see so, e take dem time to build am to where e dey so make we no dey rush our own. Small small we go get everything. Theymos get how him dey do e things, just requesting won't give us what we want but strategic planning go give us am.
358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will do to bank what Email did to post office on: December 30, 2023, 11:35:29 PM
So Boiling it down to Bitcoin and banks, actually the existence of Bitcoin has greatly improved the mindset of people especially on investment diversification such as profits making because is obvious that any money we put or save on the bank will not yield any profit so instead of people saving much money on the bank when there is a great opportunity offered by Bitcoin to channel all our money with the possibility of making or multiplying our capital in the future.

This is the reason the banks are against Bitcoin, the banks can't compete with Bitcoin. It's also among the reasons why the government are against Bitcoin. The government uses the banks as their institutions to control people through their money so if that privileges get taken aways from the banks, the government becomes powerless. But instead of the banks fighting Bitcoin they would have been looking forward ways to still be a part of the new revolution which is Bitcoin.

Centralized means of operation is something we can't just stop so if the banks were a little bit wiser and not hostile they should be building platforms to operate Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency transaction through creating  exchanging services or other service like wallets and payment processor, that's a way the banks would have been part of the new industry but instead of that, they're busy fighting the industry thinking they can subdue it.

Quote
So perhaps do you guys think the reason why most countries are having some restrictions on Bitcoin is because of the effects it has on the bank that people prefer to invest there funds on Bitcoin instead of banks?.

It's inevitable that Bitcoin will make the banks absolute and the only thing the banks can do is to look for a way they can benefits too from Bitcoin dominance. Bitcoin was created as an alternative and if the banks play their cards right they can keep it that way instead of allowing Bitcoin take over all payments system

How about not trusting any platform that requires you to send them your Bitcoin to make investment on your behalf, Bitcoin has given you the power to be incharge, don't give that away for some few dollars that isn't even guaranteed. If you're not buying and hodling your Bitcoin in a non constodial wallet, you shouldn't be partaking in that form of investments as it's not safe.

(4) Beware of fake giveaway.

Instead of just beware of fake giveaways, avoid them all. You can't be sure which giveaway is guaranteed safe as hackers are going extra mile to make their tricks look believable. They're going as far as hacking prominent social media accounts to announce their fake giveaways and getting alot of victims. Avoiding anything that has to do with giveaways will save you more than trying to filter them to know which one is genuine or not.

Do not let the same thing happen to you before you know the importance of having a hardware wallet, I have always known that hardware wallet is the safest but I ignored it, thinking I can't afford it, and I could, but I don't want to leave my accumulation of Bitcoin behind and spend hundreds of dollars on a hardware wallet, few open source hardware wallet are not even up to hundreds of dollars.

I  was reading your post to know exactly what happened that lead to you losing that amount you mentioned but you didn't mention it and I don't believe it was just because you were using a software wallet that's the reason why you got scammed. Irrespective of the type of wallet that you're using, if you're careless with your seed phrase or private key, you can still get scammed and besides we have some software wallets that has be operating for years with good reputation that can be used for hodling and you won't get any complaints. Hardware wallets are the most recommended and there are reasons for that but you can also used wallets like electrum on an air gapped device and still have a smoothly hodling experience.

Let's no make it seems like.just having a hardware wallets solves everything because it doesn't, you still need to be extremely carefully so you don't expose your private key to scammed because if you do that irrespective of the wallet you're using, you'll lose your coins. Safety is very important when investing in Bitcoin, the safety of your investments should be your top priorities and you should employ different security measurements to make sure your investment are secured.

If you can accumulate Bitcoin every week or months, brothers and sisters you can afford a hardware wallet, I know you have a goal, to reach 0.3 BTC but mind you, making sure you hold the 0.3BTC securely is the most important thing, don't work hard for scammers to reap your reward, safety first.

Affording a hardware wallets isn't the problem for some people's but how to get the wallets delivered to their location is the problem for some people especially those not staying in US or European countries that shipping to their location won't be that smooth. I won't be comfortable if my hardware wallets has to go through different third parties before it gets to me even though it hasn't been opened so using a software wallet like electrum on an air gapped device is still a safer option for me.
