Arsenal are very good in starting the season on a very good note but the problem that's really affected them as a team is their failure to finish the season in a high. Just like last season, Arsenal are having a good start but lost their game yesterday and unfortunately for them, they're beginning to act like they'll decline in form again. I never expected them to be beaten at home by West Ham.

West Ham without doubt is a strong EPL club but I think Arsenal should have done better in that game

That is one way to look at things, but they were still up against Manchester City last season. They aren't playing bad, but obviously that is not enough to win the EPL trophy. You need a close to perfect season to win it and the one team that was mostly capable of playing a perfect season was Manchester City. It's hard to beat them. And now Manchester City has their own issues and see there are immediately several teams going for them and their top position. But the season is still long and a lot of things can happen.

Inter lost an important 2 points away to Genoa, where they went as the leader. The first half of the match was very dull, but with Arnautovic's goal in the 42nd minute, Inter took the lead 0-1. Genoa made the score 1-1 10 minutes after this goal. As neither team could change the score in the second half, the match ended 1-1. With this result, Inter has 45 points, and if Juventus wins tomorrow (they will play against Rome, but the match is in Turin, I think they will probably win), the point difference will be reduced to two.

In the other noteworthy match of the night, even though Lazio fell behind 0-1 with a penalty goal at home in the 58th minute, they managed to win the match 3-1, making their points 27 and rising to the eighth place in the points table.
It was a tough away game for Inter. Genoa felt the pressure with their presence. Inter took the lead in the first half thanks to Arnautović's follow-up. Inter were looking for a second goal before the end of the first half, but Genoa managed to convert the last corner kick into a goal. Juventus-Roma match is interesting, if Juventus wants to turn this point loss of Inter into an advantage, they should get all three points from Roma.

Yes I think that is the good news for everyone, Juventus Turin can now get a bit closer again. This might not be the most desirable result for all the Inter Milan fans, but for everyone else it is good to see if the competition remains tough in the league. It will be difficult enough to stop Inter Milan, so it would be best for Juventus Turin to stay close to them for as long as possible. Nothing would be more boring than an early decision because we see a gap of double digit points.

Real Madrid is 100% focusing on Mbappe and this has nothing to do with how they cummincate the case in public. There is no reason for them to inform the public every few weeks whether they are still interested in signing Mbappe. Frankly, what is the chance that Real Madrid would not be after the best player in the world anymore? He is definitely one of Real Madrid's target, but they know that it is probably the most complicated transfer of them all.

Real Madrid need an experienced scorer now. The team is not getting the expected performance from Rodrygo Vinicius Junior. Real Madrid management have been rumored for the past few seasons to be interested in adding Mbappe to the squad. But Mbappe has renewed his contract with PSG each time. This season's scenario is slightly different. Mbappe also wants to leave PSG. He will definitely want to go to a big team and win the Champions League. Real Madrid could be the best option for Mbappe. However, Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in adding Mbappe to the squad.

I do disagree here because you could always say that a team needs a striker like Mbappe as there is no team in the world which does not "need" Mbappe. If you just say that they need an experienced striker now, it seems that the numbers contradict your analysis.

Real Madrid has the second best offense in La Liga and the third best offense in the Champions League with 16 goals scored, 2 goals behind Manchester City and 1 goal behind Atletico Madrid. It is not as if they were in a bad condition with their offense and need to change that urgently, but if they can get Mbappe, it would be the best that can happen to them as he is one of the few players who would add quality to the team.

Newcastle United's form has been on a downward trend for a few weeks now.I didn't say that because Nottingham are a good team, I could have said that Nottingham can take advantage of this bad run of form.At least they could have taken advantage of it by getting a draw away from home, but they managed to do better than that. They actually have a good squad and they have managed to use it well in their time to run a winning streak.I don't understand what has happened to the team that has changed so much and they are out of form.Maybe they have figured out what to do now and Newcastle are not being productive.

Newcastle is struggling really hard and it is not that they had a couple of draws and only got one point from time to time, but they are really losing big time this season. 4 out of the last 5 matches lost and now they have to play away from home against Liverpool. The timing couldn't be worse for them and I guess they will lose that game as well, which would put them in a really bad position. The game afterwards will be against Manchester City, which means there are a couple of tough weeks ahead of them.
345  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: December 28, 2023, 10:47:45 PM
Real Madrid is about to enter the period where they could technically sign Mbappe. That means PSG will have a player that they know will leave, not sure if they will even play him, maybe they will just send him to B squad and just make him train there and not use him. Not like they are going to lose the league anyway, they will win the league even without him for sure, and the only thing that will matter will be UCL and not like they are winning with a player who already signed with another team.

Real should be careful though, they are getting a left winger, like Vini Jr., and yes Mbappe could play striker as well, but he "could" play it, not that his main position is that. Lets see what the salary will look like, hopefully not huge.

I know the qualities of Kylian Mbappe but right now, Real Madrid are more interested in the signature of Mason Greenwood who have seen a rise in his performance even if he hasn't scored too many goals. They're not focused son working with the French Captain for now.
They have said it not the first time or second that they won't be making a move to sign the lad, now or immediately his contract comes to an end finally.

Both Camavinga and Vinicius Junior shoulda been back before the Champions League actions begins.

Real Madrid have performed without some big names this season due to Injury and they'll do same do same ahead. Most importantly is the high need for a natural striker. Joselu not really good enough.

Newcastle United's bad run in the league continues.I thought they could lose points against Nottingham Forest but I had question marks in my mind about taking the risk.I wish I had taken it now because we might see a better Nottingham Forest with their new manager. Isak put his team ahead with a penalty goal in the 23rd minute but it wasn't enough for them.Chris Wood was the star of the game as Nottingham Forest defeated Newcastle United 3-1 away from home and won an important away game.Chris Wood scored 3 goals in 15 minutes.

Thinking that Nottingham Forest could take home some points from Newcastle is quite brave already, but hey you were right I guess. I didn't expect that ever. I could stretch my imagination to the degree that maybe a draw is possible for Nottingham when Newcastle doesn't get going during that game, but a 1-3 defeat at home? That was not part of my repertoire for potential results in this game.

This season is seriously beginning to fade for Newcastle. The Europa qualifiers are getting out of sight slowly, the Champions League is over for them and they missed the relegation into the Europa League. There is not much left if they can't start winning their games again immediately. The competition is fierce, just look at the 6 teams ahead of them.

Yes and some contracts are written specifically for the Premier League when there are release clauses implemented for players. It could say that the player can leave the club for 50m if the buyer comes from Spain or Italy, and the player can leave for 60m if the buyer comes from the Premier League. And yes everyone takes notice of these gigantic broadcasting contracts they negotiate and then it's just comprehensible that the selling clubs use this to their advantage during negotiations and it turns out to be successful because how likely is it that a club will refrain from buying a player when it is a bout 10m more or less for a great talent.
It's only in EPL a certain elite club will spend £100million on a player that's yet to make senior appearance in the club or in a major competition and how come the worth increases rapidly? Buy them now, you will noticed how wasteful players you sign. EPL clubs ensure they stamp gigantic price tag on their players because most of the mediocre clubs, how do the earn? Definitely from their valuable players. For instance checking Brighton & Hove Albion, can they remember when last they won any major title? So they will use what they have to get what they want.

I can't confirm from the top of my head that Premier League clubs are paying £100million on a player that's yet to make senior appearance. Is that really the case and can you give an example for a player of that type? I know that Premier League clubs are paying a lot for young players even when they lack major experience, but then it would be wrong to say that only Premier League clubs do this because as far as I know, the record breaking transfer for the youngest player ever, isn't it this Brazilian boy that Real Madrid bought recently? There are some sources stating who was the most expensive player at which age, but I don't know whether those sources are correct. But I know that Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been spending a lot for young players.

If you are just going to wait for the result when the match starts or after the match ends then yes, you will also miss this match without betting but indeed, I know it is an option.

But regarding the match between Juventus v AS Roma it is clear, that Juventus is still a better team when compared to AS Roma . Apart from their position in the current Serie A standings, at least Juventus so far this season has also been a team that at least has a good defense too, at least it is evident from the low number of conceded Juventus sofar this season.

But indeed, although Juventus have a good defense, at least there is still no strong guarantee for Juventus to be able to beat AS Roma in their match later . Because after all, even though Juventus have a strong defense but ya, at the same time the reality is that Juventus are not so good and do not have high aggressiveness in making goals. So ya, at least Juventus also still have weaknesses in making score goal and thus, there is no definite guarantee for Juventus to be able to win against AS Roma later.

I am only careful with words like "guaranteed" or "easy" and so on and so forth because if it was like that, we all would not be watching football anymore as there is no excitement since we all know the winner before the game started. But that is not true.

Today we were given a great example, albeit it was not in Serie A. Have a look how Newcastle played against Nottingham. I did not check out the Premier League thread yet, but I am sure I could find someone who wrote that it would be "guaranteed" or "easy" for Newcastle to beat Nottingham. I thought so too, but the result says otherwise! Wink
349  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: December 25, 2023, 11:42:50 PM
I highly doubt Roma can achieve a good result against Juventus in the last game of the 2023 which would be in 29-30 December as Juventus is playing a much better football and Roma was not convincing at all, they won against Napoli but Napoli was playing with 10 and 9 men in the end and it was this time that Roma was able to score, when playing 11 vs 11 Roma could not score goals.

I agree though that Roma is performing well lately and the presence of Lukaku has greatly improved their performance as of lately and most probably they would be happy with a Europa League place spot in the end as competition for Champions is really hot right now in the Serie A.

Oh who knows what is going to happen this time when Roma faces Juventus Turin. You can't predict some red cards or lucky penalties for either team, if you know what I mean Wink One decision can turn the tables so quickly during the game and this was all about that red card in the game against Napoli. Otherwise I can't bring myself to think that Roma would have won that game. Since I don't know whether this may or may not repeat against Juventus Turin, I rather wait for the game to be played and see. Roma is not a nobody in the league. I guess Juventus Turin will play the game with clarity and dominance and Roma will defend. It could be a boring game coming up.

Premier league financial situation is not an easy one at all to manage. First of all, the whole world knows that they are making a ton of money, so they ask more money from them, like lets say you are a team that is midtable at serie A and you have a player, you ask 70 million euro from United, whereas you ask for 30 million at most from Juventus, why? Because you know United or City can pay that, premier league is a rich league. This looks like a good thing for premier league teams, they do have a lot of money, and a big budget but the reality is that if you make a mistake then how can you recover? I mean making 80-90 million euro worth mistakes are not easy to get rid of, and that's what causes them to get worse and worse over time.

Yes and some contracts are written specifically for the Premier League when there are release clauses implemented for players. It could say that the player can leave the club for 50m if the buyer comes from Spain or Italy, and the player can leave for 60m if the buyer comes from the Premier League. That is way too far into the future for Manchester United. If they ever want to take action to not waste the whole season and have enough time to correct a few things, the time has now come. If they wait until they have certainty that the season will end catastrophically, what convincing arguments do they have for a new and renowned coach to go to Manchester United? They will again be confronted with the problem that they can find some mediocre guy who is willing to train a team that didn't qualify for the Europa League or the Champions League. If they want to save something, then give it a shot now and not in 5 months from now.
When Erik Ten Hag failed to bring MU to the champions league or to the UEL competition, I thought he could refocus on improving MU's performance in the premier league to prove that there was improvement and could make the fans still have hope for this club, but the fact was that yesterday against West Ham unable to hold a draw or beat their opponents and MU had to lose points again and with these few matches fans around the world are a little less confident in Erik Ten Hag but for some reason the management is still keeping him while Erik Ten Hag has failed in several seasons and this season has been really bad.
I really understand that perhaps replacing the coach may not necessarily be able to improve Manchester United, but if you don't try, how can you find out about this and in fact, at that time, I hoped that when the transfer market reopened, MU should be able to bring in quality players but also by bringing in a new coach to fix this ugliness and I am really sure that the source of this problem comes from Erik Ten Hag.

There is something funny about your idea that at Manchester United they just say "hey ten Hag, now that you messed up the Europa League and the Champions League, focus on the Premier League". Does that mean if he now messes up the Premier League as well that they will tell him to instead focus on the FA Cup only? Cheesy

The problem they have is the way how things are in shambles. If you get only 4 points in a Champions League group with Copenhagen and Galatasaray, you know what that means. It's ok if a team loses against Bayern Munich although 1 point could be possible in a home game, but winning 4 points in 4 games against these two other teams is a shame for Manchester United.

And now they are  so lethargically that I ask myself every single time what is going on with those players? Do they have a freaking flue or are they on drugs? A new coach could try new things to bring them onto a good mental level, a level where the willingness to perform comes back.
352  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: December 25, 2023, 09:48:46 PM

Not going to lie, I was actually a little surprised to see Atletico Madrid in third position and ahead of Barcelona. Because generally, Atletico Madrid has not been performing very well, especially in recent times. So this definitely looks like an improvement from them. And at the same time, the players have also started to perform better.  Things are looking good for Atletico Madrid this season. And I am not going to be very surprised if they are actually able to finish in the second position. But even though I am praising them, I don't think they are going to win the La Liga title.

Yea they are indeed better this season than they were the last two seasons, as I quickly had a look. At the same point in time they had 29 points and 31 points and this season 38 points. That's quite solid, but still they have got 2 draws and 4 losses, which gives them a win rate of 66% of their games while having more losses than draws. In summary they are better than in the last two seasons, but they are still far from the dominant Atletico Madrid they were several seasons ago. Their fierce defense was brutal. You knew when they scored the first goal that the game was literally over.
353  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: December 24, 2023, 01:22:26 PM

That is quite an early judgment call here. I am with you that they are too hectic, too inconsistent, but I do think that Atletico Madrid is a team that can improve their game over time within the season. The more there is at stake for them, the better they can get. They have had seasons like that in the past. Since they can play quite a unique strategy, it is never a please to play against them. They are not as strong as they used to be when they frequently made it into the semifinals of the Champions League, but assuming they have no chance to win anything, I am not so sure about that. Inter is my favorite when Atletico faces them, but it is still quite a high level encounter.

Atletico is now 7 points behind Real and Girona, and this is too much for Atletico to hope for anything in La Liga. They were able to equal Barcelona on points and even beat them on goal difference (this once again indicates Barcelona’s poor attack), but it seems to me that the main struggle in the remaining matches will be with Barcelona for third and fourth place.

Atletico Madrid has to have several consecutive wins to keep stressing the teams at the top and hope for some bad games. 7 points is not the end, but given the current form that Girona and Real Madrid have, it seems like a lot and Atletico Madrid has had one strong streak with 6 wins in a row yet. But they also had some weak games against inferior teams, which they can hardly afford if their claim is to win La Liga.
354  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: December 24, 2023, 08:34:04 AM
Atletico Madrid is one team I admire in the Spanish la Liga but the only problem the club have is not being able to win the la Liga for some time now, the reason why I like Atletico Madrid is because they don't concede much goals and they have a solid defense that makes it difficult for their opponents to penetrate. Atletico Madrid winning Sevilla is a big achievement for them as they have moved to third position in the la Liga table with equal points as Barcelona but Atletico Madrid is leading them on goal difference.
Atletico Madrid will not lift any significant title this season because they're not in prime form to compete with Girona and Real Madrid for the title. We know how challenging these matches can be and we also hope for the best form for Atletico Madrid to survive the top four race. Atletico Madrid follow suits after Real Madrid and Barcelona in the rankings of Spanish clubs. Los Colchoneros are in possession of the possibility of growth but they have failed to amend their mistakes and sign new promising players that can be able to adapt swiftly to the team's pattern of game.

Horrible night for Napoli really! Two red cards and a loss by 2-0... They could have done much better than this if none of those red cards were given to them. Even Osimhen got a red card in this match. The win was served on a silver platter for Roma literally. Despite Dybala's absence they managed to win but I don't feel like they could have won if Napoli didn't get any red card.

Because their performance wasn't good enough until the first red card. Mourinho should have preferred a more attacking game plan. He always does this in big matches and prefers a cautious game.

Quote
The win was served on a silver platter for Roma literally.

I was looking for words that best describe what happened to Napoli last night and I think you served me the words on a silver platter! Wink

I couldn't agree more that this was the real horror movie in which Napoli was eventually made the victim that died a horrible death literally. The evil part about this movie is that it isn't over, there is a second part in the form of two players missing the next games because of red cards.

I am sure Mourinho had a big fat smile on his face yesterday! Cheesy

They didnt have to play the second half, nothing happened, they could have finished the game after 45 minutes. 5 players were substituted and a very good chance for liverpool in minute 73, but Alexander-Arnolds shot just hit the crossbar of the goal, that should have been the 2:1 for liverpool and they would have been on first place in the Premier League. Next week Liverpool travel to Burnley and Arsenal play West Ham United at home. Lets see if there is a new one at the top in the next few weeks, Aston Villa are only 1 point away.
The match is really entertaining, both of the clubs have a same strength, not really surprising if we see Liverpool looks able to win in this match because they played in their hometown. Well down for both Arsenal and Liverpool.

I think Ten Hag has a responsibility for Man United's poor performance and I don't think it would be surprising if at any time he was kicked out of Man United.
If Manchester United didn't make it to qualify for Champions League or Europa League, I believe he will be kicked out.

I guess so and the importance is very high for both of the teams as they want to stay in reach of the valuable ranks that give them the qualification to the Europa League and maybe the Champions League. It would still be highly possible for Napoli to fight their way up, but a loss would yet again be another relapse for them.

Roma has to win as they would really fall behind otherwise and they would again start a negative series of several games without a win. So it is not the best game in terms of the quality that both teams are showing these days, but there is still something at stake for both.
The importance of this match for both teams is very high, but at the moment it is a match between the eighth and sixth teams in Serie A, which does not look very prestigious. It is hard to believe that Roma will be able to beat Napoli, and for Napoli a victory will not provide an opportunity to improve anything, since they will remain in the same place, unless this allows them to get closer to Fiorentina and Bologna.

I think that Roma is capable of taking points from Napoli today, and a draw in this match seems to me a more likely result.

Now the riddle is solved and Roma was able to beat Napoli in their ordinary fashion. Defend their own goal with every player, hardly have their own attacks, wait for a mistake, which Napoli made when they received an early red card and then Roma came out of the bushes and attacked. The game was over when Osimhen got sent off and they had to end the game with 9 players. I don't know what this really means for both of these teams. It is a really dark moment for Napoli. And Roma, you never know. But I see them more in the midfield, but Mourinho will be pleased for the moment.

But it is impossible to compare Barcelona from today with Barcelona when Puyol and Pique were still playing. Barcelona around 2010 was the craziest team there has ever been in my opinion. Every single position was willed with literally the best player there was for the particular position. No part of the team outweighed another part of the team. Everything was balanced and really every player had a 10/10 in passing and ball control. Barcelona today doesn't have that by any means. They are all good players, but back then it was a different level.
You're talking about Barcelona's peak times and I don't remember a better team from that period. Maybe with a few reinforcements they could have built the best team of the century. Barcelona is an important team and they need to get rid of these periods. They deserve to be better.

When you see some of their old line-ups from back then, I don't know if I will ever get to see a team like that again. The young Messi, who in 32 games scored 46 goals and averaged 1.44 goals per game. That is without assists. Then all the players around him from the goalkeeper to any other position on the field, it was world class an sometimes when I watched games I thought this is almost unfair for their opponents. They played their tiki taka style as if they were programmed with artificial intelligence. No mistakes, 100% accuracy. It was funny when the opponent couldn't touch the ball for a few minutes. Cheesy

I feel like their midfield is not that bad, but their defense definitely doesn't work. The crazier thing is that we are talking about a team that has decent defenders as well, not like they have bad defenders, they are quite good at what they do and talented players.

I think they should reconsider how the yare approaching the games, they are using their defenders for their passing abilities and put them at way too ahead, which opens up a lot of chances for counter attacking, which means you need VERY quick defenders. Barcelona doesn't deal with very quick defenders, remember all those old players like puyol and pique, they were not really quick, they knew how to position, and they knew how to tackle, but they are not doing that now, they are nearly at midfield every position.

But it is impossible to compare Barcelona from today with Barcelona when Puyol and Pique were still playing. Barcelona around 2010 was the craziest team there has ever been in my opinion. Lyon got three wins in a row and that's enough to push lyon to leave from the relegation zone. Lyon has even made 2 points gap towards toulouse. It's amazing to see lyon is changing drastically. Is this a joke or what from lyon?
The club has been starting so poorly but it can change the situation in a short time. It's really amazing to see lyon was able performing better like that. This is not the same like lyon at the early season.

These wins are helping lyong to climb up and it's really amazing to see how lyong was making it happen. Glad to see that the club is now officially leaving from the relegation zone.
Clermont and lorient to be relegated soon. I must call that if lyong is doing good job. I don't know what changes that happened with lyong and it was able getting winstreak.
Surprisingly, Lyon was able to appear consistent in the last three matches after successfully getting three points in a row and make Lyon out of the relegation zone. Started from Toulouse, Monaco and Nantes are teams success defeating by Lyon as home and away match but postponed Ligue 1 match will make Lyon loss touch with winning trend? Currently Lyon position not secure yet because left two points from relegation playoff and have 4 points remaining from relegation teams Toulouse.

Upcoming match, Lyon will face Le Havre, Rennes and Marseille will keep continue for winning three matches later in a row or the top performance from Lyon will stop by three of teams above.

What postponed Ligue 1 match are you talking about or do you mean the break that's now coming for all Ligue 1 clubs? I think it won't have a specific impact on Lyon in either direction. The most important fact for them was that they now gained back their confidence and saw they can win games. They can not only win one game, but three games in a row. That is what they needed to understand that they don't belong into the relegation zone. It took them quite some time to finally break out of that negative cycle they were trapped in.
