361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN HALVING IS COMING!!! on: February 27, 2016, 03:57:12 PM
I'm a little confused. Can someone explain to me what happens after the Bitcoin halving? Will the price increase/decrease dramatically? I heard it would be harder to mine Bitcoins.

Look at the post above that I just posted before you.

Basically for every block miners are getting 25 bitcoins per block.  Then after the "halving" comes, it will become 12.5 bitcoins per block... and so on every 4 years around the same exact time.  So people are speculating that because miners have only half of what they would normally make to sell off, they are going to be demanding a higher price because there are fewer of them around than what would "normally" be on the market.

Make sense?
362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN HALVING IS COMING!!! on: February 27, 2016, 03:48:30 PM
No one knows what will happen the only thing that is sure that it will be around July, but we just need to see when it really happens, its also that the halving is a bit unpredictable.
I think its just a matter of time before the halving will happen but when it happens we will sure make profit if you have hold your bitcoins by than.

But you have to realize that there still has to be "fresh" money coming in.  All this is doing is reducing how many Bitcoins miners can put out on the market... People in general still have to be willing to buy them up for the price to increase; the halving doesn't necessarily guarantee a price increase.

364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you still keep a fiat retirement account? on: February 19, 2016, 02:42:23 AM
I absolutely keep a retirement account.  It scares the hell out of me when you hear facts like 60% of American's don't even have $1000 saved, much less a retirement account.  My employer makes contributions into it as well, so why wouldn't I have one? Assuming bitcoin continues to take off, I would hope that my fund managers would invest in bitcoin and I could reap the rewards, and if it fails, then I have my retirement money to fall back on.

Currently at the age of 26, I am estimating needing close to 6 to 7 million to retire properly at age 65.  Long way to go, but that's why you start it now, so you have time to let it compound.  Also that's minimum, I would eventually like to buy a condo in Hawaii and Myrtle Beach.  That is an extra 2.5M and 500k respectively.  That seems like a large amount of money, but I plan to be a millionaire by the time I am 40 by continuously maxing out my Roth IRA contributions and then pouring the excess into my 401K.  If you can learn to live without needing that money, it is really easy to save and you never even know its not getting paid to you.

I used to live in South Carolina, and I can go ahead and tell you that you don't want to move to Myrtle Beach.  Go look into Beaufort, SC or better yet (my personal favorite) Bald Head Island, NC ; it's literally a paradise out there, and the investment in land will probably sky rocket as time goes on.  Just thought I should go ahead and give you a heads up.  Myrtle Beach is now nothing but a bunch of "yankees" (lol) that have taken over the area and is just not enjoyable because of all the people.

Getting back on topic though, I'm just now becoming an "adult" and getting through an internship for an actual job.  I would like to have the option (and I'm really thinking about doing this my self) to put my retirement savings into gold and precious metals because of the stability of price/demand no matter the inflation rate of fiat.  Am I crazy for thinking this way?  Should I just stake up everything in a 41K?  I'm still unsure about everything, and I don't think it's necessarily smart to put your investments ALL in bitcoin and gold... but I would like to have somewhat a good chunk of my investment in there.

Don't worry, his wife can be the bread winner in the family by bringing in millions by doing absolutely fucking nothing productive for society.
Fucking Ray J on PornTube* is not exactly 'absolutely fucking nothing'.  That probably took some humility and shame.  Maybe not as much as Paris Hilton who let a guy blow a nut in the face on live TV, but nevertheless, it sure isn't 'nothing'.

*great double motorcycle at 3:27

Let's take a step back and realize for what it's worth why that sex tape was so popular... If her dad (mom now?) hadn't been a lawyer in the OJ trial, they would've never been so "popular" in the first place. I still don't understand how they got so popular off this initial thing that put them in the media spotlight, but that is definitely the only reason. Kardashians aren't a music artist, actor, anything... They just are treated like royalty just for the sake of being treated like royalty. Ever since they got in the spot light, her parents did nothing but pimp out their daughters, and for some reason, I guess America loved it. And if you consider Kim getting a nut blown on her on camera in a home video that got "leaked out" a contribution to society, I'm concerned...

Anyways... Because Kayne married her just for the sake of money & publicity/fame and nothing else, I don't feel empathy toward him... I hope no one buys his shit album... Maybe he can do something "productive" and film himself getting off on Kim's face to make that money back... Unfortunately the rest of normal people don't have that option, hell I wish I did. lol

Lol I love Kanye, I don't get the hate, he's very talented and hilarious. I've heard his remastering Life Of Pablo already and will release a new version soon! He's that crazy.

He is quite literally the biggest scum piece of shit on the planet.  He is the most self entitled asshole now, and it sucks because when he was making a name for himself, he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders and was a family oriented man.  Now he only does stuff to get his name out in public, whatever that may be... whether that's taking an award away from Taylor Swift, calling white people racist all the time when he is the only one who initiates race controversies, etc.  Idk, he's the only celeb that I have a genuine hatred for and hope he loses all of his money and never can get out of this so-called "debt".

Don't worry, his wife can be the bread winner in the family by bringing in millions by doing absolutely fucking nothing productive for society.  God... I hate celebrities like these idiots.
367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bernie Sanders will use bitcoin for economic growth? on: February 17, 2016, 04:44:19 AM
Yeah that what murrica needs, a diaper wearing senile geriatric socialist Jew from New York. He probably thinks bitcoins are the pieces you get when you chop up a penny. lol

Fuck it, I'd rather have some senile Jew from New York run the country than some orange oompa loompa who will blow up the whole damned planet if he has too, to get his way...

and I classify myself as a F'in Republican too... Well, I believe in the economic (and maybe immigration) values of the Republican ideology anyway.
368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bernie Sanders will use bitcoin for economic growth? on: February 17, 2016, 04:41:17 AM
There have been a number of US politicians who have spoken favorably of Bitcoin, both Democrat and Republican. The most outspoken in it's favor seems to be Ron Paul. Rand Paul likes it too but he recently dropped out of the race, but he's still in the Senate.

What's more, Rand was in fact accepting bitcoins for his presidential campaign. Not quite directly but through BitPay, but that still counts.

Yeah, Ron/Rand are always my go to guys when it comes to identifying a perfect ideologic mindset.  I know Rand is not as brilliant as his father, but the thing is is that he is still keeping the libertarian movement alive.

I have come to accept that the world we live in (at least for as long as I live) will always be under control of the democratic/republican mindset... I would honestly love to live in a "Utopian" world where we use science to govern economics and political decisions amongst everyone on the planet.

As of right now, yes, Bernie is the more likely president to maybe use bitcoin to outsource the banks... but it'll be a tough sale.  Plus, I'm pretty sure if Bernie does try to pull something like this off, he will get assassinated by the powers that be, and covered up as some "gun toting looney" too cause even more divide amongst the public and achieve what the powers that be want; control of the power that they've already acquired.  This is just like what happened to JFK.
369  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I need investors! on: February 17, 2016, 03:54:48 AM
'I need investors' does not work anymore. It worked some time ago here to get some venture capital but people are more cautious now. It is even much harder when you are newbie. Your chances increase when you provide a plausible business plan and some more trustful facts.

This is very true... you need to be willing to lay out a very detailed business plan of what, where, and how first before you expect investors to come running to you, and even that's not enough.  You probably will have to do skype interviews, meetings in person, etc. before you have any serious capital coming your way.

Plus, the fact that you primarily only want to mine LTC and BTC is concerning.  LTC is a very stagnant coin, and the barrier to entry for BTC is unreal now... You might want to reconsider what you plan on mining in order to have some sort of profit.

What's the problem? First time I see this error. Do you have problems with your betting provider? I was about to making a parlay then suddenly all bets lost.
I have getting this problem too also all my bet status is empty. I think this is not the first time it happened. Maybe the website is under maintenance

Yeah, that's probably what's going on... As long as I can get my bets in by Thursday for the PGA tourney I'll be good.  They'll probably have everything back online here pretty shortly; they always tend to be very professional and on time with everything.

Edit: is there any word if directbet is going to be incorporating the new coin that the poll shows?  I would really prefer to bet some monero, since I like the fact that it would help me remain a little bit more anonymous in my gambling.  If you guys are planning on incorporating monero, what do you think you will set the mixin rate?  Thanks again.
371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need ideas for a possible presentation... on: February 17, 2016, 03:10:13 AM
No thoughts, then, on what might happen when we have three colonies on Mars, spaced just far enough apart that their respective members aren't constantly getting in each other's way but close enough that regular travel via blimp wouldn't be unfeasible? (Yes, it's possible to have an aircraft on Mars. No, it probably won't look like a Boeing 747.) What if Colony A decides that they want to trade some of its strawberry flavored protein bars for some of Colony B's blueberry flavored protein bars, but Colony B decides they don't like strawberry flavored protein bars and they want some of Colony C's banana flavored bars instead?

I do have an outline for my presentation. I just wanted to get your thoughts on the matter while I filled in the details.

well thats why i said.. if they all had bland, vanilla flavoured protein bars. and they all ha enough reserves to be rationed out fairly.. then no need for currency..

but say one colony hub was growing strawberries, another colony was growing oranges and the third was growing tomato's.. then trade between then would happen.

but if all colonies were just growing. potatos.. then no trade or currency would be needed.

like i said you cant just throw a currency into a project, it needs to solve a purpose. so if your going to present a currency, then show off its real benefits. like find out exactly what the plans for mars are.. find out wht type of rations american space agency stock up on/grow, then look at the russian space agency and chinese.. (the main groups hoping to get too mars) and show some REAL demo of swaps.. rather than making up uses that you have no clue of

Well, sure...It wouldn't take much imagine to see how these three space agencies' efforts could evolve into space colonies that are developed enough to start specializing and trading. That's assuming all three agencies actually succeed in establishing bases on Mars, though it need not necessarily be through a government space agency considering that some private citizens have expressed interest in settling Mars. (A discussion for another day -- complicated topic.) The important thing to me here is that 1) Trade between colonies will happen and 2) The colonies involved will want some sort of medium of exchange they can use to do business with their neighbors if they don't want to be left behind economically.

I might make mention of smart contracts and other possible Blockchain apps that can be used to keep colonists honest in the new frontier, though. What do you guys think?

Well I don't even think that it HAS to do with trading goods on Mars alone... As you said, it would be "good for an interplanetary currency", in that it would be useful maybe to act as a currency that can be traded with people on mars, earth, etc.

Just thinking about it makes it sound super Sci-fi, but the thing is, is that this could theoretically work I think.  So, it doesn't really have to be "vanilla protein bars vs. strawberry protein bars" on planet mars...

Let's just say, for some odd reason, there are fantastic resources on Mars to grow the biggest, most plump pumpkins than you could on earth... or maybe there is some unknown gold/oil reserve in the planet of Mars.  So people who go there could trade with people on Mars as well as Earth, Earth's moon, the ISS, etc. You never know... there could be "job" openings due to colonizing Mars, rather than going there just to see if you can survive with a group of 20 people or so.
372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you do with your idle coins? on: February 17, 2016, 02:17:43 AM
I've seen a lot of people posting these types of questions lately... and for some reason I think it has to do with the price staggering, and people feel like they always have to have some sort of ROI each day to feel like they've had a "successful day" in cryptoland.

Truth is, is that you really don't have to go find some way to double your coins fast, or do something to earn a couple bitcoins... just enjoy reading what's on here, learn some things about this revolutionary new currency, and see where it goes from there.  I know people like to day trade, gamble, invest, etc. and try to "siphen" a couple extra satoshis here and there.. but the truth is, is that it's really not that necessary if you think about it.  You personally are still one of the very few people on the earth who have any cryptos at all... so it might be beneficial to save your satoshis, because one mBTC might be worth $10 one day... you never really know.

If you want to gamble, buy, or invest in something... go for it.  After all, it's your money... you shouldn't be looking for people to give you some kind of "green light" to do something you've been wanting to do with bitcoins.
373  Economy / Gambling / Re: Official 2016 PGA pick'em thread on: February 17, 2016, 02:08:56 AM
Congrats on the thread and good luck I also love betting golf.

I think I like Speith this week at 7/1 ish but I hate usually betting big favorites.

Yeah, I feel you on that one... betting on golf has the advantage of having such a massive field in every tournament, so it's like horse racing X 50.  Favorites obviously won't win every time, but I feel like it's nice to hedge your bets on a "favorite" and not put all your eggs in one basket.  That way, you can play a long shot without having the feeling you're essentially just pissing in the wind and throwing money away.

I personally like the feeling of hedging 50/50 : favorite/darkhorse.
374  Economy / Gambling / Re: Official 2016 PGA pick'em thread on: February 17, 2016, 01:41:34 AM
Reserving for current picks:

February 18-21st: Northern Trust Open
Riviera Country Club
Pacific Palisades, Calif. :

FAVORITE: Jordan Spieth  Bet: .01 {Line: 7  Source: Directbet.eu}

DARK HORSE: Bill Haas  Bet: .01  {Line: 36  Source: Directbet.eu}

I feel that Jordan Spieth is just now starting to get back into the groove of things ever since his bust out 2015 year.  I have a good feeling he'll bust out here and shake off those cob webs.

Bill Haas simply just does good at Riviera.  He has been in the top 25 from 2011-2014 here (winning in 2012), and has started off the season pretty nicely.  I think he'll be a long shot to win, but I think it would be the best chance at winning with high odds since he'll be a likely contender there.

Don't believe me Huh Here are some other mention worthy contenders I'd reccommend Wink: Dustin Johnson & K.J. Choi

Edit:
UPDATE:  I've decided to go with K.J. Choi on this one since his odds are a lot better (190) and I feel he has just as equal of a chance to win with Bill Haas.  I'm keeping my .01 bet with Spieth as a back up plan. Good luck everyone. Smiley

375  Economy / Gambling / Official 2016 PGA pick'em thread on: February 17, 2016, 01:39:10 AM
So, I've always loved playing and watching golf; and I have decided to try and get lucky on some tournaments this year and post my predictions every week so you guys can get in on the fun too!

DISCLAIMER: I AM IN NO WAY AN EXPERT! I just like watching golf.

Golf is a pretty enjoyable sport to watch, in that you can sit around the house and watch a tournament for hours and drink beer... Right up my alley if you ask me.  When it comes to betting, it produces very good odds if you win, even if you pick a heavy favorite (like Jordan Spieth).  I'm going to post up my picks with betting amounts here for you guys to follow and/or participate if you're feeling froggy yourself  Wink .

More than likely I'll bet on a favorite and a dark horse contender.

Hope to see some good profits for 2016  Grin
376  Other / Off-topic / Re: What's your least favorite thing about Bitcoin? on: February 16, 2016, 12:54:41 AM
Maybe I would have preferred it was completely anonymous, in fact it's a pity that dark wallet development is not going on anymore.
I think other people can still find you, even if you use a lot of addresses, they can use, wallet explorer. and they find is you bitcoin is not as confidential as you think dude

That's a big problem I have with bitcoin.  The fact that people can know how much a person has in any given wallet, whether they want that to be public knowledge or not, is not good IMO.  I would personally like to be able to give someone a key to allow one person to view that and keep everything else private.  Also, the fact that everyone can trace the amounts transacted and from where is bad for the fungibility aspect of bitcoin, as you can see in the "taint analysis" on a block chain explorer.
377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoins successor on: February 13, 2016, 07:35:59 PM

Dogecoin is very popular and I'm a big supporter, if you ask me I'd say it's the second most important coin after BTC  http://coinok.pw

That's cool.  Everybody has their coin that they personally like, but I just don't see anything that makes Doge any better than other copy and paste type of altcoins.  They just increased the number of coins, that has the same functionality of Bitcoin.  And also, I don't know what you were trying to show me with that link, it didn't really have much info, besides selling it, faucets, etc.  ... Huh

You can say the same thing about Litecoin or any other coin...

Doge has faster transaction times and it's very popular espacially among youngsters... something to consider.

No, there are other coins out there that is built on different code than Bitcoin... look at any other cryptonote coins, Eth, etc.  I gave my spiel about cryptonote coins on the previous page, maybe you should consider reading that.

Doge is popular among youngsters, it was popular among old folks too during 2014... doesn't make it a legitimate coin though.  I just can't take something seriously, if it is only popular because of some "meme".  Litecoin is a legitimate coin I think, because it was one of the first to propose a coin that can be able to confirm at a faster rate than Bitcoin.  Doge is the same way I think, in that it confirms faster than Bitcoin... but it doesn't give any advantages over Litecoin or Bitcoin, other than that it has a cute little dog attached to it's brand name.
378  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: February 13, 2016, 07:13:23 PM
BTC price never drop so quickly, it was definitely a gradual and long like from $500 to $400 take 1 month and stable at $400-$450 in 2 or 3 months it can be rise or down again, so lose quickly in value its not good reason for choose gold than bitcoin. Cheesy

I have to disagree with you. I have been following the Bitcoin exchange rates for more than 4 years, and I have seen price drops amounting to 30% or more in 24-hour duration, on multiple occasions. There were a variety of reasons, such as Mt Gox scandal, Sheep Marketplace robbery, Bitcoin ban in China.etc. But the drops were extremely sharp, and happened in a relatively short duration of time.

There is a reason why Bitcoin has such a volatility, and it's because that it's still an incredibly new experimental currency.  People still don't know what the fuck is going on it feels like.  There is no security in it because there can be another scandal/news story that either causes it to sky rocket in price or drop from the sky.  You can't necessarily do that with gold, because it's not a new currency, and was the first real "currency" man kind has ever used.  So it's got history, therefore, it's stable.

Same with fiat... fiat, with no real representation of gold behind it is still somewhat "newish"... in that the gold standard was dropped from fiat around the '70's.  The causes of this are still happening, and is being devalued by the printing of more and more notes from the Central Banks.

to be honest none. I think there will be some popular alternatives remaining like Litecoin and Dogecoin but no suitable successor.

Litecoin was and still is a legitimate alternative that has an active user base and has somewhat a different functionality than bitcoin (with somewhat faster confirmations times)... but Doge will never be a legitimate alternative.  It was just a fad that had it's "heyday" in 2014 when the doge "meme" was popular, and garnered a lot of attention from people who just like the meme...  It doesn't have any different functional purpose compared to Bitcoin, it just has millions and millions of more coins... that's the only real difference between the two.
