361  Economy / Speculation / Re: One year ago... on: November 09, 2014, 12:19:58 PM
indeed Smiley

But it's very much possible that soon the market cap will also be lower than a year ago...

Anyway, bitcoin survived in 2012 when the exchange rate was lower than in 2011. So the current sutuation should not directly mean that BTC is dead...
Although, I hope that the exchange rate wil start a new uptrend within a few months. An anouncement of the Bitcoin ETF could make this happen.

Exactly. Smiley I had to make the point while it was still true. Wink

I'm amazed we're going to get another 10% hash rate increase soon.

A year ago the difficulty was 510,929,738. Now we're at 39,603,666,252. 77x.

If it's still profitable at these prices then we can have some time to go as miners sell OTC.

After that the ETF could be the huge event to "drain the oceans" as aminorex would say.

That's funny, I was reading that page before but only for technical details and didn't read the end of that post.

In that case, wouldn't miners just decide not to merge mine those coins?

No, they can be expected to mm Truthcoin for block rewards and tx fees related to scBTC and Truthcoin out of greed.

But not long term greed if it would destroy btc. Also mm leave a coin open to attack like when Luke Jr. killed Coiledcoin. So the coin could be killed in the early days due to a 51%.

not only are all sorts of altcoin Sidescams going to bolt themselves onto the Bitcoin MC as shown by Truthcoin but as odalv has shown even Silk Road 4.0. How do you explain that to the Feds?

Why do you think Truthcoin is a scam? I would love to see a decentralized prediction market.

Thank you for making my point! You are  exactly what I was  looking for. A living example of someone who would be willing to trade scBTC for Truthcoin!  And they said it won't happen  Roll Eyes

Answer:  it might not be a scam!  But if successful it will be inflationary to the Bitcoin system. And if inflationary to the system it will eventually destroy Bitcoin according  to the great link I put up earlier about merge mining.

I'm glad I could help! Wink But I don't think Truthcoin has to operate as a sidechain.

I missed the link but will look through your post history to find it. We certainly don't want any inflation in BTC. But I don't think any other digital currency really has a chance (perhaps an anonymous one).

Very cool! Where is it? I'm currently in Mumbai but would love to check it out when I'm back next year. Smiley

367  Economy / Speculation / There are ~1,500,000 more bitcoins now than there were last year on: November 09, 2014, 09:57:15 AM
Yet the price per coin is about the same.

So market cap is up ~15%. [Source : http://www.coindesk.com/data/bitcoin-market-capitalization/]

Looks fair to me.

Sentiment might take awhile to change, but change it will. We're working on building an economy here. Wink

Of course everyone wants to speculate on price because that determines the worth of our individual coins. But even if coin price is the same we now own part of a much larger and more powerful economy.
368  Economy / Speculation / Re: One year ago... on: November 09, 2014, 09:50:41 AM
Let's not forget there are ~1.5 million more bitcoins in circulation compared to a year ago.

So even though the price remains the same, the market cap has increased from ~4B to ~4.6B.

So it has grown 15% in a year but people are saying it is dead. Funny. Wink

I just started a node which I can run for a long time into the future. I would also like to run it as a DNS seed node. It is a very well connected dedicated server with excellent uptime. Can someone from the project PM me so we can get this set up?

371  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Attempted MITM on BitPay over Tor on: November 09, 2014, 06:27:26 AM
The page was designed as a BitPay page. So at least in this case they didn't replace random bitcoin addresses.
372  Economy / Scam Accusations / Attempted MITM on BitPay over Tor on: November 09, 2014, 03:38:58 AM
Some links to BitPay are hijacked by evil exit nodes. Their SSL certificate isn't for BitPay but seems generated on the fly. The new page then tries to get you to pay to one of their BTC addresses. Anyone else see this? Nice attack vector.
373  Economy / Speculation / Re: Date for 12.5 BTC per Block - autmn 2015 on: November 07, 2014, 03:57:29 AM
Well, we have moved to late July 2016 now. Summer 2016.

Reward-Drop ETA: 2016-07-31 13:45:52 UTC (90 weeks, 2 days, 13 hours, 50 minutes)
374  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [WHITEPAPER] Decentralized Bitcoin Prediction Markets on: November 02, 2014, 04:19:12 PM
Tangential but looking at what happened with SpaceShipTwo if only there was a prediction market... a bunch of people seemed to be sure an accident would happen.
375  Economy / Speculation / Re: Logarithmic (non-linear) regression - Bitcoin estimated value on: October 22, 2014, 11:27:19 PM
Probably about right.  Grin

But let's not forget the massive volatility we will have getting there!
376  Economy / Speculation / Re: For the bulls on: October 05, 2014, 10:39:43 PM
-Miners gotta make money, gotta pay bills.. Nothing we ca do about that.
-btc hit $1000 due to mass panic buying and media coverage.
-Not all, Overstock keeps some for the long term.

As a BTC bull, I'd like to remind you that this is the last time you're gonna see this type of swings. The early adopters/market manipulators have one last go at it. Once the ETF launches we wont be talking about little money like we are today. Today its easy to move the market around with a few million bucks. Think about how hard it going to be be though once that ETF hits. Now were talking aboutevery financial market around the world having a vehicle to invest in bitcoin. One that's safe, trusted and regulated. I'm talking about trillion dollar markets being able to cash out a bit and hedge in btc.

Bitcoin to the moon fellas.....

Very nice post! "The early adopters/market manipulators have one last go at it."

To the moon! Lots of rockets fail the first few times. We are going to make it there and I can tell you the Earth looks beautiful from the moon -- wait for the view, we are going to enjoy it. Smiley
377  Economy / Speculation / Volatility is healthy for bitcoin, but not for bitcoiners ;) on: October 05, 2014, 10:24:02 PM
Discuss. Tongue

Seriously though, this is the market mechanism for redistribution of bitcoin wealth. People sell out by taking profits or trying to avoid further losses.

Not a bad thing when you consider what we are trying to do -- seed a new economy.

So bitcoins should be distributed far and wide. The chart as it is now will prevent people from ever being able to say they had no chance to get in while it was cheap. Now everyone has a chance to get in again. And they may as well have that chance. Of course many will miss it again but you can't blame bitcoin.

Previous bubbles have always burst and tested the highs of the bubbles before. Well we got to 266 in April 2013. Today we went back to 275. And I think it is the 3rd highest negative volume day on bitstamp this year.

There is blood in the streets. Permabulls such as myself know what to do....
378  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Selling BTC on circle? on: October 01, 2014, 09:30:07 PM
Thanks! I just tried to verify my bank account with the amounts they deposited and their web interface said the numbers were wrong. But they weren't! Emailed support.

Edit: I am not selling, a friend is. (I am keeping my account set up just to test functionality.)

sometimes services send 2 payments of under a dollar (forgive me i havnt tried circle) but it sounds like that what you are mentioning.

if circle sent for instance $0.32 $0.67. it may appear on your bank as:
$0.67
$0.32

where as they want it in the order they sent it
0.32
0.67

have you tried flipping the numbers round as sometimes banks receive them not in order.. (i had this experience with paypal years back)

Yes, I thought that might be it, so I tried it both ways. Then I tried without decimal points (thought that was highly unlikely but no other options really) but it locked me out as that was the third wrong try.

Is it possible to sell BTC on Circle or is it only used for buying?
