You know, I’m starting to get the impression that the thinking around here is a little, shall I say, blockchain centric.

Quote
An eepsite centralised but can host databases.

Absolutely under no circumstance should this system rely on any centralized service.

Quote
PGP is an additional step that I think would sink any attempts to make such a thing widely used

Encryption would be transparent to the user.

Quote
The hard work would be on the GUI

I have many years of programming experience using wxWidgets (among others).

i appreciate all the answers you give yogi, as you observed our opinions are biased around a blockchain for various reasons... it's novelty and potential.
Any programmer can come grab the code and build on it, just like another forum member said, think at bitcoin protocol as a base for future projects. Can't remember his name.
I'm more like a hardware guy so i feel like shit not having the ability to code. You know how to do it go ahead, you will have our support. I can do translations, small user tweaks, graphics, user support, whatever  Cheesy

edit: i will be the first to donate some btc to whoever pulls out an alpha of this p2pBay style market
3624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: p2pBay on: November 06, 2011, 01:12:08 AM
a simple decentralized OTC will do. Should have the ability to store nick, pub key fingerprint and rating for every person and listings of goods and services. OTC market works letting every one give ratings from -10 to +10, where -10 is a scammer and +10 close friend.
The hard work would be on the GUI, to achieve a nice user experience, having to make at the same time sorting and filtering on the blockchain of huge amounts of info.

But he said there's pending transaction on tradehill side. So I'm expecting same issue like I had.

let me get this straight, you sent your funds directly from one exchange to another, tradehill to virwox, 3 days ago and it doesn't show up ?

think you're right, i didn't understand what OP tried to say at first
3626  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Me saying hi, bitcoin transaction taking more then 36 hours.. still in process on: November 05, 2011, 07:22:57 PM
What can i do?

Mailed tradehill two times.. Used the same bit coin address again with a small amount and that one is arriving.

Looking op with bit coin blockhecker shows only the small transaction, not the large.

let me get this straight, you sent your funds directly from one exchange to another, tradehill to virwox, 3 days ago and it doesn't show up ?

edit: contact them asap like slush said

My thoughts: nice product, should get some goldbugs interested too

[edit] Word on the holograms, same can be copied and sold to different people for the real price and only one would get the bitcoins. Checking the address balance would not help them know how many of the same exist and where sold either so the first to redeem would be the lucky one so the only one selling them should be Casascius. If one day something like his happens he would be the only responsible as he knows the private keys of all the coins and makes them.

edit: lol i didn't even bothered to see who's OP was, Casascius i was a thinking at other things when i posted, sorry

tl;dr

I like gambling, your website and feeling but not your attitude. You wanna play by the rules and make a business ? i think you should better leave bitcoin alone and keep with the "traditional" payment processors. Want to make a statement against laws approved in detriment of all of us, better get an .onion address and start doing real business on par with silk road. Just my opinion

3635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Getting Bitcoin and Bitcoin info into hands of Occupy protesters on: November 04, 2011, 12:54:04 PM
I have been going to occupy melbourne for the past 2 weeks. Im going to take a card table and maybe organise some flyers focusing on australian bitcoiners. If anyone wants to provide some flyers or network on how we can go about introducing bitcoin Id like to hear it.

Im thinking of doing what jimbobway suggested which is simply setup a card table with a  bitcoin sign and chat to people/hand out info as they approach.

+1 ack, good idea, i will try it this way with the Madrid protesters

3638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: p2pBay on: November 04, 2011, 01:24:00 AM
If you mean where is all the info regarding items for sale then there are two ways of doing this, as far as I can see.

First is the simple way. When you want to sell something you add that item to your offer database which is stored locally.   You receive search queries from other peers and return them any relevant offers. When you want to buy something then you send out a search across the network and you get all the relevant results returned from the other peers.

The downside of this method is that you can’t sell anything unless your client is connected.

The second way is to use a distributed database but this is more complicated and would probable be overkill for a first prototype. But, it would not be necessary to keep historical data after exchange has been completed, and so, no need for it to be incorporated into a block chain.

agree with you on the local storage of your items for sale, downside included

what about the trusted otc data on peers, secure time-stamp messaging, fingerprints of PGP pub keys and other things i cannot think of right now. Dunno maybe we could come with a better idea that Satoshi already did, you start the brainstorming... Smiley
3639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: p2pBay on: November 03, 2011, 11:16:54 PM
.......... I don't see why you need block chains for a web of trust......

where would you store all the info needed to make it to work ?
3640  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: bitHopper: Python Pool Hopper Proxy on: November 03, 2011, 06:06:52 PM
I've noticed you are parsing the website of yourbtc.net for data.

It would be great, if you could use our json api:
http://www.yourbtc.net/api.php

Cheers,

Chris

ack, thanks
