I know this must've been discussed at some other point somewhere, so a link might be all I need.

Indeed, did i miss something these past days ? We are changing blockchains or what  Huh

Haha, sorry.  I've just been pondering the idea -- for no reason in particular -- how difficult it would be to retire BTC and move onto Bitcoin 2.0 if necessary for the future of crypto-currency.  It's always nice to have well-thought-out options if the need ever arrises (SHA256/ECDSA is broken?)

Aaah, got it, please do ponder a bit on the issue yeah  Smiley

Actually the allegory of the cave is from Plato

Indeed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTWwY8Ok5I0 if someone would like an explanation. The best education one can get in only 140 seconds. (unless you know this already)

"This, of course, does not make the world outside of the cave any less real."

your link has lead me to this  Philosophy and the Matrix: Return to the Source. Thanks, and i've managed to see the whole thing  Smiley

2810  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: scammed when selling bitcoins on ebay on: March 31, 2012, 10:07:47 PM
PayPal is not a scam.  You just have to play entirely by it's (sometimes extremely frustrating) rules.

Just like Bitcoin they have their protocol in place. The ones that don't follow the protocol get orphaned and rejected. Simple as that.

true, true, great words hmm, we should try a 51% on them ?

Hi everyone!

It took me a while to find you, but now I'm following.

I'm so sorry about all the uproar I caused in those first hours of the contest. I was pretty sure the url wasn't visible on the side panel of instawallet, but those thieves must have used some pretty sophisticated enhancement tools  Wink

I have to say, I'm really excited about all the possibilities of this new movement. I've been waiting a long time for this type of opportunity to surface, and I am totally open to collaborative projects and special requests  Kiss

oh...and in case anyone is interested in my new album...

Welcome to bitcoins LadyBytes you wouldn't be the first to have your 15 minutes of shame with Bitcoins Tongue   You did a mighty fine job of explaining bitcoins to prospective GirlsGoneBitcoin ladies ... we applaud your effort!  I think I speak for everyone when I say your  very smart to pick up on the technology lingo and the such .... keep up the good work!

+1 welcome and nice new album hehe, you said something about making pancakes for the next one... ?  Cheesy

Update from reddit

Quote
Thank you everyone! I'm just piecing it together now, but I made a pretty big mistake by revealing my instawallet url in one of the photos; I have lost all of your generous donations to a very greedy jealous person. But all is not lost, I think I won half the bounty for the first video posted. And who knows, maybe things don't have to stop here at Bitcoin how-to's... Wink

I don't know her but i think i fell in love...
2817  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Girls of Reddit's r/GoneWild on: March 29, 2012, 04:22:49 PM

2819  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I install and run the Bitcoin GUI on Linux 11.10? on: March 29, 2012, 12:43:34 AM
Here is the error I get when typing bitcoin-qt

Code:

************************
EXCEPTION: 22DbRunRecoveryException
DbEnv::open: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
bitcoin in Runaway exception

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'DbRunRecoveryException'
what():  DbEnv::open: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
Aborted

So, what does this mean?

open up a terminal and start typing:

Quote
bitcoind stop

rm .bitcoin/database/log.*

bitcoin-qt&

this error is caused by a mismatch in Berkeley database libraries at compile time, so in order to fix it you need to delete some log files in the bitcoin dir, hope it helps
2820  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: OKPay on: March 27, 2012, 09:03:04 PM
Pitty they don't have a BTC balance.  Tongue

+1 they're services rock and have a stable platform but a btc balance would be nice to have too. I'm still quite amazed by the speed they implemented bitcoin with their platform. Happy customer since 2011

Ironic. Do you even know if they are legally registered in their country?

yep, i've done my homework on them, even before requesting the debit card they offer
