Hey, the fastest and easier way to get some bitcoins would be getting them with paypal on virwox.com exchange. You don't have to create a SecondLife account for that only a username and password on the exchange site and buy linden dollars first and the exchange to bitcoins. The fees are not to high but can't be ignored, they accept paypal though which is a bit risky from a bitcoin seller point of view.

In the long run you should try making wire transfers to an exchange that gives you the lowest fees and fast deposits, mtgox or tradehill atm. I use tradehill for sepa zone and don't pay fees at all.

Transferring bicoins to you wallet it's easier than buying. Start the bitcoin client and copy the address you see in the main window and then paste it on the withdraw page of the exchange. Hit withdraw and wait for it to appear in your client. I guess you already read the wiki and found out that you have to wait for the blockchain to download completely before using it. See this page for the actual number of blocks your client should download and display in the bottom right corner.

You can search this forum if you want to find out more specific info on your issues or join #bitcoin channel on FreeNode

i buy dollars because they are made of paper, i like paper becuase it is made of trees trees were real creatures before they came money, not metaphorical creatures.. real creatures. dollars are green and i like the color green. i also like the picture of the pryamid with the eye in the middle and i like to collect all the presidents so i can remember who they are.  i also buy dollars cause there is a neat trick you can do that shows the picture of the twin towers with a plane crashing in to them.

I also think it is great that the government and the isrealian people in the federal reserve can print dollars out of thin air.

thats so cool man. i love dollars.

nice one man, that would be the best description of the dollar's value by far
3743  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: bitHopper: Python Pool Hopper Proxy on: October 11, 2011, 11:02:12 AM
I stopped hopping until all the pools I hop give rewards for merged mining. Some pool is probably merged mining but not giving rewards, so anyone who's hopping instead of merged mining right now is the sucker.

(it also helps that I hop the three pools that are merged mining and mine SMPPS from simplecoin when they have too many shares)

Certainly, pool hopping normal bitcoin pools does not compare with plain merged mining in terms of profit (currently about 40%).  Hopping the merged mining pools seems to be best.

For the proportional pool, slush is a good bet for the low variance.  There is a 2% fee but this is small compared to the fact that not everyone has entered a Namecoin address yet and slush had decided to share the pool's namecoins between only those users who have (so a good but decreasing NMC boost).

As for a pool to hop to, simplecoin.us PPLNS is the other option at the moment.  It is a fair bit larger and does have a significant promotion bonus (BTC+2%, NMC+10%) but the variance is probably too high for most people's taste so the lower profit SMPPS pool seems like a good choice.

The question I have, (which I asked at the CherryPicking thread) is how to most effectively hop a merged mining pool at all?  Does one simply hop by the Namecoin blocks and ignore the Bitcoin blocks or does one take them both into account in a clever way?

i guess you take into account only the blockchain wich has the greater difficulty, the other chain reward will be as bonus

When are we starting merged mining?
Moved over to another pool (with merged mining) until the big moment...

+1 went to nmcbit, until deepbit starts to merge mine.

I would help by doing the spanish translation  Smiley

For windows use Qt Linguist and if you use deb-Ubuntu like I do you could install same tool from the official repos with
Code:
sudo apt-get install qt4-dev-tools

EDIT: translation submitted on github

EDIT2: I managed to create a project page on crowdin.net but they give us unlimited access only for 10 days (trial) like all the other platforms. I have the time and ability to manage the translations project if it's needed but i can't pay the fees for a bigger than one translation plan.

Just saw as of 9:40 this morning Merged mining has become active.I wonder what pools have this implemented currently.
Of the three currently offering merged mining masterpool.eu is by far the best.

which is the third ?

Then I ask the mighty Gods that have power on their encrypted hard rives to pour some bulks of 10,000 on us mortals so the price goes lower.

heh, hope they do and make us early adopters too  Cheesy

I know there are some guys owning > 50,000 bitcoins? why they don't sell?

one question, multiple answers:

1) Absolute faith in the system
2) Stashed coins don't require maintenance
3) Actually be aware that price was driven up artificially to those 30$ heights
4) etc

In what timeframe? I see the price possibly going down in the short term but I see a strong recovery for the mid term, and the long term is still up as well.
