The new algorithm is very exciting, i wonder if they are taking more steps than just being the only coin to use the new algo to stop future multipools, knowing this dev team i bet they are.
As a VTC bagholder... Your Devs are fighting the Last War (ASICs, botnets) and losing badly... crushed, no? Coins like BC are fighting the New War (PoS with massive Multipool, great PR)... and winning. The problem with PoS coins is that it seems like no one stakes their coins, they just leave them on exchange waiting to sell. This way it takes far less than 51% of total money supply to attack the coin, because you only need 51% of the current supply being staked (I think this is also why they tend to fork a lot). There are serious security problems with PoS, which is why the original (Peercoin) is a mixed PoW/PoS hybrid.

To all: Yes, a voting is open for 'Subsidy Change'. Please spread the words. It would be an important change to the coin if the majority vote for 'yes'. I just voted on this but now the options are different? wtf? They were more comprehensive before. Why do we have to vote again? Now I have to vote 'no' instead of just voting for 'sharkbite subsidy only'. Seems like someone is trying to game the votes. see here: http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/2bth1o/thoughts_on_vertvote_and_more/I think the majority felt like it wasn't a fair vote, because it wasn't made clear that it would be binding nor how the results would be interpreted, so decided to redo vote as initial simple yes/no, if yes, then I guess we'll vote again for change.

So...lets see if I understand this correctly... 1) You have a ton of alt coins already...but you want to borrow more 2) You have hundreds of thousands in transactions in poker but you can't affort $500 to $1200 worth of some other alt coins? 3) You have been trading for 7 months, yet don't have enough money for your trading. Got it. Where can I send you money? I would like to be part of this right away! lols, my thoughts exactly Mumbles...why not just claim you're a nigerian prince who enjoys trading alts?

Thanks for reply! In reply to your replies: (1) Why doesn't windows version come with talkcoind.exe? Is there a demand for it on windows?
I would like, at least, yes. (2) Can messages be sent from terminal/script using talkcoind? Not implemented yet.
Would be nice. (3) Is there a write-up somewhere explaining how the chat feature works? A site with more explanations will be rebuilt.
Would be very nice. (4) It seems like no matter what nick you use, the wallet chat features always sends the message from the same address. Is there a way to change address that your chat message/fee is sent from? (If you wanted to anonymity shouldn't you want to change this address each time you send a message?) Address is chosen (randomly) by the client but your idea can be implemented later.
I think this is important. Thx again

Well that sucks lol. So really the main sell points of the new algo are ASIC resistance and power efficiency? Anything I missed? I am just trying to measure the true weight of the announcement and while I am from a technical background I am what some people here might call a "Fucking Noob" with regards to crypto but its ok I know these people are damaged in some way.
Yyea, main sell points are asic resistance I think, as from what I understand, it should be full usage of gpu (not cooler/lower power like x-algos). Multipools are just miners and dumpers, I don't think there's any reason to really target them.

So multipools mining vtc at the moment can only mine N scyrpt coins they can't switch between algos?
I think sgminer 5 (algo switching multipool from nicehash) is still pretty flaky, but you're right, this would be a possibility.

Hello Vertans.
Could someone please explain to me how the new algo will hinder multipools?
I understand block maturation but this is a different thing... no?
If vertcoin is the only coin using the algo, then what else would a multipool mine? It wouldn't be a multipool, just a vert pool. If some other coins adopted the same algo and were profitable, then multipools could mine just the same though...

Hi,masters, I'm a newcomer, Can you give some talkcoins , So I can research on it . Thanks so much! my addr: ThhUjD2n3APXWA8quxFUJQsUrQDoLLHgaD lol masters, 21.something TAC sent. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After using wallet for a day now, I have some questions for devs or more experienced people: (1) Why doesn't windows version come with talkcoind.exe? (2) Can messages be sent from terminal/script using talkcoind? (3) Is there a write-up somewhere explaining how the chat feature works? (4) It seems like no matter what nick you use, the wallet chat features always sends the message from the same address. Is there a way to change address that your chat message/fee is sent from? (If you wanted to anonymity shouldn't you want to change this address each time you send a message?) Hope someone has time to answer, and thanks for all your hardwork devs! One more question: Is there a BTC or TAC donation address for devs?

Jumping in with multipool issue. I personally voted for adding 1 week to the block maturation. But looking at the exit-poll - majority prefers no changes! WTF, multipool owners overvote the Vertans? Another thing - are there only 95 VertVoters (according to 2014, July 25)? I voted for 3 days, but I think in retrospect no change is better. Inconveniencing multipools almost by definition means inconveniencing all miners, and with the way the network hashrate has been decreasing since the release of Monocle, I think the last thing we want to do is make things tougher on miners, multipool or not.

Does anyone know what ports the Scrypt P2pool network is on? I wanna set a node up and I can't seem to find it...
And also, I know Ahmed said there would be no support for the Groestl P2pool, but I was wondering if anyone was able to successfully set a node up. Unfortunately I'm having problems getting my node to show any data on the front-end and to download the sharechain from the rest of the network... I installed the groestl_hash_python extension and played around with the /p2pool/networks.py and /p2pool/bitcoin/networks.py to no avail (I edited it to reflect the DNS change). I'm thinking of messing with the groestl_hash_python extension but I have a feeling I'll be wasting my time with that too...
Help would be appreciated.
Hey birdonwheels, I'm currently mining on your sha p2pool, and would like to get on scrypt and skein as well. Please let us know when you get them up. As for groestl, you are aware that groestl coin doesn't use exactly the same algo as myriad-groestl, there is some difference between the two. Sorry I'm not more help, but good luck getting them up and running...

If there's going to be a block maturation time I see no reason why we shouldn't go all out and make it 14 days for the best deterrent against multipools. Can anyone provide an argument against this?
I voted for 3 days, just because 14 seemed to extreme. I'd prefer to see the maturity time linked to the sharkbite algo, so if hashrate shoots up, then maturation time is 14 days, but under more normal circumstances it's more like 1-3 days.

Hola Moneritos y Moneritas, Here is a simple Monero vanity address generator that I wrote in Python: https://github.com/jwinterm/SimpleVanityIt's pretty slow, but it works, here is a 'jw' address I generated last night: 48jwL1EJ8dSbpnrffpJrH8PAkdr8KNZ49H2nQvWtefxjbzuujcX3kbCjXexK1GLbHoHJ2LAuiBduUGMK5KYUPDL67ts2vzz It only took a little over 6000 attempts before I generated this one

But I guess I'll keep on being patient and working with you. Where else do we have to go? It's the same crap wherever you go in the crypto world. Balanced portfolio? Well, almost, and maybe not. There is one select coin out there (that I know of and am sure about) that is professional, very quiet, and very much under the radar - and we'll have to keep it like that until the accumulation phase is over. You could go to bitcoin...or litecoin...or ripple...or peercoin...or darkcoin...or vertcoin...or monero...or any damn thing but Sue...err, myriadcoin. Unless someone is paying you to troll myriad, then I guess you're contractually obligated to remain active in this thread
