How many free MYR can you get on the Sunday reddit tipping thread?

Usually he tips 300-400 MYR, or a little more if you retweet or something, maybe 500 or 600.

So how do we get the electrum wallet connecting again?

ahmed on irc this morning:

Quote
[07:47:59] <ahmed_> it might be that the electrum servers haven't been updated
[07:48:17] <ahmed_> ill setup a new electrum server after I've finished installing ubuntu-server on my home pc

In the meantime, if you have coins trapped in electrum that you want to get out, you can go to console in electrum and use "dumpprivkey()" command, and then "importprivkey privateKeyHere" command in qt console.

Apparently the man is a genius and I shouldn't question his infinite wisdom, but why is DPoS such a great idea? 100 voters to validate each block, right? You know what else has 100 voting members (and one extra for tie breakers) - the US Senate, a veritable model of efficiency and incorruptibility if there ever was one, right?

I concede DPOS as it stands in BitShare isn't perfect, not because of the 101 delegates but because of how little active voting stake is currently needed to select them. However looking at Bitcoin, how many men do you have to get to, to have 51% short term control of Bitcoin? Probably only 3/4 mining pool controllers.

I don't think this is quite accurate, because in the DPoS voting for delegates is a transaction, a transaction which the delegates themselves control, while in the bitcoin system miners are free to abandon a pool at any time, thus reducing their hashing power and influence (besides other major differences between PoW and modified PoS systems).

Starting with the -reindex parameter takes care of the wallet issue.
Reindex? It's impossible. Wallet can not be opened. How do enter - reindex? After the second start wallet writes: "zerovert –qt.exe has stoped working“.

Assuming you're using windows, you can start from the cmd window like "zerovert-qt -reindex", or you can make a shortcut and add the option to the execute line.
3426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 08, 2014, 06:34:42 PM
Whats the point of this... u guys really have some weird ass ideas, its unbelieveable Wink

The point is: something is wrong, and has been wrong all the time. The devs acknowledged it since the beginning. Nothing has changed. It does not go away by simply wishing.

Hell - if the characteristics of the problem are such, there is no way to make it go away but by fixing it!

If the issue could be lived with, considering how critical the sanctity of fixed emission speed is, surely the debate would have died out months ago! Is anyone proposing that Bitcoin change emission? I mean seriously. If this matter did not have the support of the majority of the Monero owners, the proponents of slower emission would have just sold and moved on.

That it is still ongoing, indicates that we love Monero, and want it to live, which, in our opinion can be secured by slower curve - foremost because that leaves more emission for the rapid adoption phase and thwarts the risk of a "fair fork" later on, but also because it contributes to the short term market situation, which is at the point where anyone with serious money does not want to invest and current community cannot find the rationale for spending time on the coin whose future is endangered.

If the emission is really such a terrible problem, then why isn't boolberry or another cryptonote with slower emission taking more of the total cryptonote market cap? Are you suggesting extending the emission by more than a factor of two (I believe boolberry is emitted twice as slowly as monero)?

3430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: November 07, 2014, 11:18:52 AM
2. Per-kb fees are ready to go, and has been merged into the master repository! The per-kb fee has initially been set at 0.01 XMR per kb, and we are confident that this will be a suitable fee for the moment. We are not going to enforce a block-point hard fork, but we would appreciate it if major pools could upgrade by Monday. Thereafter, exchanges and users can upgrade over the course of next week as Monero 0.8.8.5 is released.

Yesssss! Thank you!
A n00bish question though: how many kb actually I can expect to have a small-normal transaction? What will be the min fee? 0.1 XMR?

You can click through some blocks here and look at txs: http://chainradar.com/xmr

Looks like typical txs are < 1 kb up to 5 or 6 kb, so it should definitely help reduce the fee paid on most transactions by at least a factor of two and up to an order of magnitude.

Since the fall of prices vertcoin I wondered how someone could mine the VTC or other scrypt-n coin. Scrypt-n consumes a lot of electric power and I can not cover the cost of electricity although it is one of the cheapest in Europe (0.06 $). Even merged mining  VTC+Zerovert me not profitable. How is it possible that scrypt-n coins are still some miners? Is it possible that there are no secrets ASIC or FPGA and something else?Surely there is something I do not know.

It's not a secret that litecoingear has been offering n-scrypt fpga cloud mining for 3-5 months now ( http://ltcgear.com/product/tricoin-pack-m3/ ):
Quote
The product is able to mine, “out of the box”, Litecoin/Feathercoin (Scrypt), Darkcoin (X11) or Vertcoin (Scrypt-N).

Also, KNC titan miner was supposed to receive a firmware update that allowed it to mine n-scrypt ( https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-106 ):
Quote
The Titan was designed for several variants of the scrypt algorithm, including Scrypt-N. Titan's firmware is in continuous development and we'll update this space with new versions enabling new features as they become available.

Though I'm not sure how many people, if any, received a KNC titan that does.

Anyway, it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility there are other fpga miners besides ltcgear.

The accumulator requires an RSA modulus of unknown factorization, so we used the RSA modulus of unknown factorization from the world renowned RSA factoring challenge.

Is there any way to verify this since the source is not available? Just have to take your word for it and keep an eye on the blockchain for double spends?

Hello Zerovert. How can I get some free give-away coins?! Many thanks, Voly.

Hey Voly. For our first giveaway we're looking to give away free coins to people that share about us on twitter or facebook. Feel free to qualify by clicking the "share on twitter" button here: http://zerovert.org/

Note though: For twitter and facebook, we'll have some heuristics to tell if you're a real person (time account was created, posts, ect)

Cheers

I shared it. Will you just send a link on the twitter page for the coins?

Details given soon. Will probably just have everyone on twitter post their new Zerovert addresses

Coolyo, just tweeted from @jwgealt. I guess since you haven't answered my question about open-source, that means it's gonna be closed source? Any estimation on when it will be open sourced? Isn't it hard for people to evaluate the efficacy of the technology if they can't examine the code?

Closed source for now, in an effort to create a network effect so someone doesn't just copy our code and claim they implemented zerocoin first.

Which specific questions do you have about efficacy? Would be happy to answer.

Just in general, I think it's good to have code available for review. I understand your concerns about someone copying your code, and I'm not going to review the code myself, but I'm also not going to install it on my computer when it's only available in closed source binary. I'm still not using vert wallet with stealth addresses because source still hasn't been released afaik, even though there are apparently lots of coins with stealth addresses now. Just kind of sucks that if I want to get giveaway coins I have to setup wallet in virtual machine or something...maybe you can just save mine until you release the source Smiley

Anyway, hope launch goes well, and hope you are able to get some new and old people excited about vert. Best of luck!

My wallet is synchronized but has stopped minting. What's the deal?

Is POS working for everyone else?

Can you check money supply by going into Help --> Debug Window --> Console, and then typing 'getinfo' or 'getmininginfo'. One of those should give you the current moneysupply. Maybe moneysupply is bumping up against maximum number of coins? From the first page of ANN it says Maximum BCC: 63,561,840. Or maybe you're just being impatient or don't have wallet unlocked for minting Tongue

Um, is it just my imagination, or is Groestl finding a boatload of blocks again today?

Check out http://birdonwheels5.no-ip.org:3000/.

No, seems legit. I haven't checked myself, but saw this conversation on IRC over the last hour:

Quote
[07:56:11] <eightbitcoder> hi guys
[08:06:22] <cosmo> howdy
[08:43:04] <eightbitcoder> i plan on bringing out a new version soon that will further strengthen against attacks
[08:46:16] <larraboj> how come so many more groestl blocks are being solved compared to the other algos
[08:46:19] <larraboj> http://birdonwheels5.no-ip.org/blocks
[08:46:45] <larraboj> its 6 groestl blocks, 1 sha/scrypt/qubit/skein and then 6 more groestl
[08:47:40] <larraboj> http://myriad.theblockexplorer.com/temp.php
[08:47:50] <eightbitcoder> larraboj: yes, that is one of our security measures kicking in. somebody is attempting to manipulate groestl again to get more blocks.
[08:48:41] <larraboj> is it because the groestl hashrate is not high enough?
[08:49:20] <eightbitcoder> groestl is the easiest target because it has the lowest hash. they are sending fake data in their groestl blocks to try and manipulate the groestl diff further down.
[08:50:41] <eightbitcoder> when they previously tried this attack they managed to get got around 50 blocks a minute.. now around 4 a minute. i plan to tighten this security further.
[08:54:51] --> Vit_ (b025640e@gateway/web/freenode/ip.176.37.100.14) has joined ##myriadcoin
[08:58:53] <larraboj> I thought only being able to solve 6 blocks in a row would make the time warp attack more difficult

So, hopefully we'll see another update in the next day or ten.
3437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XDN] DarkNote. Anonymous 100% PoW CPU+Untraceable Crypto Messages+GUI Client! on: November 05, 2014, 02:42:31 PM
Hey Guys,

Been away for a few days, did XDN get de-listed on bittrex due to low volumes? I am unable to get on bittrex for some reason, it always says that the page cannot be displayed! Sad

Is there any other exchange where i can buy XDN? Also is the windows wallet working well enough? I have windows and have heard of a lot of stories where people basically say that the windows wallet is useless. Can someone in the know please advise?

Thanks!

XDN is listed on bittrex.
If U want buy more XDN,U can buy it on poloniex.com.
My windows wallet work well.

Thank you for the reply. I was eventually able to get onto bittrex. I downloaded the windows wallet but it did not install and my system kept giving me a warning that the file i downloaded was malicious, i ran it anyway, but nothing seemed to happen. I restarted my system and checked but still no go. My main reason for wanting to download the wallet, was to stake the coins, is it really worth staking? I have a 100K XDN. Do you think i can make favorable returns with this kind of investment, or am i better off selling them off when the price starts to rise?

Proof of Stake isn't supposed to be implemented for a couple more months, so at this point it doesn't really matter. On a related note, anyone know if the GUI wallet is open source? It doesn't seem to be on github. Is it just this https://github.com/ducknote/kwag made into exe with pyinstaller?
