Here is Qortal Discord invite link: https://discord.gg/YDA9S8CHCY

Thanks yea, Discord does that sometimes, and their 'unlimited' links expire anyway.

I will update the links on the OP and on the website.

Qortal's biggest failure is that people with level 5 accounts with sponsorship ability almost don't have the ability to promote qortal. Or do not actively promote the growth of the qortal community.
A person with a level 5 account mints 18 times more coins than a level 1 and 2 account.
I think these reasons will make qortal very unhealthy.
I was offered a sponsorship within a few days of participating in the community, so my experience has been different. If it was POW or POS, I'd either have to invest in mining equipment or money in my stake or both. In Qortal's Minting, my only investment is my time & engagement with the community.

Not a bad trade off for no monetary investment, even if I earn 18x less. As each day progresses, the gap between minting rewards slowly narrows. In a sense, this is no different than anything else, the early adopters enjoy the most benefits. Ultimately, time will tell.

There will be many modifications to the system, including new rewards methods, leveling methods, etc.

The system was built to reward those who built it, and contributed to it prior to it being built by supporting the QORA network, a little bit more at the BEGINNING.

The system will level out, as everyone increases in level.

New methods being implemented will increase the variety of earning potential, as well as the input that ultimately leads to gain in influence and reward on the network.

EVERYTHING WILL BALANCE OUT, but it made sense to reward the creators and people who assisted getting the platform launched a bit more in the beginning.

Does anyone knows the settings for using TOR ?
I don't believe that functionality is available in the projects current state, so there would be no setting for that. Not saying some iteration of TOR like functionality won't be available, just not a priority compared to other desired deliverables. The beauty of Qortal is it is built to support such features and any 3rd party can leverage Qortal to make it happen, if not today in the very near future.

I know we had a Qortal node on the Tor network at one point... I will have to ask dmax about it and get the method of configuration, as I believe he might be the only one to have done it so far.

I will post here once I know the answer.

So do I understand this right. to be a minter you need to get sponsorship from someone who is level 5 in the discord or qchat?

I am not particularly keen on chatrooms or chat servers.

Is there another way to get sponsorship without joining discord or qchat.?

I read your whole announcement.   I actually find this project very interesting.

Yes, initiative must be shown by anyone looking to become a minter on The Qortal Network. Then a continually connected node of any type after an initial bit of interaction with the community.

The easiest way to interact with the community is in the UI, in Q-Chat.

I myself am there a lot, waiting for people that I can then donate QORT to and sponsor. So it really isn't that difficult overall... but yea, you must communicate and show initiative in order to become a minter... that is the only investment required (that and a 5W or higher computer system.)

We don't believe it is that much of an issue to obtain sponsorship, then once you become your own minter, you no longer need to communicate, you simply keep helping the network grow by running your node.

The first time in a while I see pure hard-core developers working with a vision in mind and passion in the heart. Pretty much like Satoshi if you ask me.

Qortal is something else guys. Definitely not the typical, mediocre altcoin. Looking forward to the raffle!  Cool

Thank you brother, your words are appreciated.

Yes, we have been developing Qortal to provide a real, new infrastructure for the world to make use of in any number of ways.

We believe we have a very great starting platform which will only get better as time goes on.

46  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Money Trap] btcmax.com locking user accounts, forcing users to KYC on: November 29, 2020, 05:19:08 PM
I would like to confirm this scam accusation. Same scenario happened to me, upon a test deposit of a couple thousand QORT. It seems to me that they are specifically targeting QORT, but I could be wrong about that, either way, they are definitely a scam.

1.37 was a breeze updated both my windows and mac nodes and everythings working fine. Thanks crow.

Very glad to hear it. Smiley

Been stuck at 40% for the last hour Sad

1.3.6 was at 84% after 2 days. I deleted all the files, rebooted my PC, and it was moving along all day til now. What do I gotta do? My time says its exact

Followed instructions for the bootstrap off of github release page. I will report back. All this for a coin I can't afford buying and probably won't be competitive enough to mint lol. Blockchain looks worth it tho!

There is no 'competition' to mint... did you read the distribution? Every minter shares every block's reward, if they're online and sync'd with a minting key assigned. The level of the minter denotes their share of the reward...

You don't 'compete'... you simply stay online and mint.

I'm on Level 0 I'm dumb as rocks when I try to create a minting key it won't let me. I was donated 11 QORT and I thank you who did that Smiley

I will sponsor you...

In order to become a level 1 minter on Qortal you must FIRST obtain SPONSORSHIP from another minter of level 5 or higher, or a Qortal Founder.

1. You will get the sponsorship key from me, and attach that in 'node management' - 'add minting account' - assign the sponsorship key.

2. You will remain online and synchronized for 7200 online blocks ('blocksminted' in Qortal API call for account.) - once you have done this, you will BECOME level 1 (it will show at the top left of the Qortal UI)

3. THEN you remove the sponsorship key from node management - click it, and input the sponsorship key again when prompted to remove - and CREATE your own MINTING KEY by issuing 'Reward Share' - 'New Reward Share' - 0% - to YOUR OWN PUBLIC KEY (which can be found by clicking the settings toggle at the top right of the Qortal UI where it will show account information)

4. The key that pops up when you issue your reward share 0% to your own public key - is your MINTING KEY - now assign this key in node management add minting account just like you did with the initial sponsorship key.

That's it... you will never again have to change this key, and can continue minting on Qortal.

Hey.
Tell us how you are doing with the POLYTIMOS. Is it abandoned?

it isn't abandoned, but sorta 'on pause' at the moment while a solution is fully devised.

I think I will open up a method of transferring POLY into Qortal so that POLY holders can obtain value on Qortal.

I will post back when I have figured exactly what the process will be.

Giving this another shot on my poor Intel core i3 lol. But after reading about leap seconds and the slowing of the Earth's rotation on its access, I would like to keep my clocks in sync on my humble, but efficient machine. Smiley

Definitely install the new version - https://github.com/Qortal/qortal/releases/download/v1.3.7/Qortal-1.3.7.exe

If you are coming from an older version chain db... you will have a 're-shape' that takes place upon initial start. This may take some time to complete.

After that it will start and many issues are resolved. Including less CPU usage for your i3. Wink

- ANN - New version 1.3.6 of the Qortal Core, addressing db size, BTC stability, and more.

Version 1.3.6 of the core has been released, we will NOT do an auto-update until many nodes have been updated manually first...

This version addresses DB size, includes the first 'trimming' method that removes old online account signatures, and keeps them trimmed to certain size, along with other trimming to keep db around 6GB and not increasing.

This version fixes the trade portal and BTC functionality making it much more stable and functional.

Now we can really start promoting harder.

Next steps:

1. List LTC for faster, cheaper trades.

2. Get the voting system going

3. Take votes for future listings

4. Start designing app, even if the app is only a wallet and Q-Chat (or maybe two different apps)

5. Add features to Q-Chat beyond what we've already added, with emojis, etc... add the ability to store messages longer on each individual machine, etc.

syncing keeps getting stuck after 91% Sad

Are you sure the sync is STUCK, or is it just moving slower? Try restarting your core and see if that helps, if not we have a lot of improvements upcoming.

Here is a great image put together by The Qortal Community illustrating the steps involved in a cross-chain trade in the Trade Portal. I thought this image was a great representation, so I decided to share it here so those outside Discord might see it.

I am also going to post it on the Qortal main website.

Thank you to the community for the great work!

Things are progressing nicely.

I have updated the website - https://qortal.org - should be a bit simpler to understand, etc.

Also, we're in progress on multiple fronts development wise...

1. We are working out solutions to the large db, which is caused (a large portion anyway) by the 'AT states' for the Trade portal filling up the db.

- we plan to both have a new way for the ATs to function wherein they don't need communication each block, and thus reducing the overall amount of data needed to be saved, and also improving the methods at which the db functions.

2. We are working out the listing of LTC, however, the process is going to take a little longer than initially expected... as most things go that are done correctly.

- We are not far off either way though, and LTC should be able to be added within a relatively short period.

AT THE MOMENT

What we need is for some people to USE THE TRADE PORTAL.

version 1.2.4 UI and 1.3.5 core the trade portal is functional. There is never any risk of loss, so we simply need people to put some BTC in their local Qortal BTC wallet, and use the trade portal to pick up some of these EXTREMELY LOW PRICE orders. (which they will be very happy about in the future.) so we should focus on that, and a bit more marketing and information.
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Qora | POS | Assets | Names | Polls | Automated Transactions | Social Network on: September 19, 2020, 04:17:00 AM
Any working QORA nodes?

Yes, I still run multiple QORA nodes.

Is there a reason for that?
What is the purpose?

I have at least some temporary plans for the QORA chain, at least until we have data storage in Qortal. Things like utilizing the QORA chain to 'copyright' (for lack of a better word) images, etc... until they can be ported over to Qortal.

Also, I just don't like getting rid of blockchains, especially ones like QORA that have a bunch of useful features that can still be made use of.

So keeping the chain running I feel is basically my 'duty' to the ecosystem.

The QORA chain is still a very useful chain, and it has some data that is useful. So I just want to keep it running. Eventually I may find a way to port the data over to Qortal as well, but eventually we will probably lose the QORA chain entirely. Just not yet.

Hey guys. Love the ideas I've read in here so far. I just started with Qortal as it was recommended to me by a Devcoin (DVC) developer (Traxo on bitcointalk).

The timeserver sync and check on Windows is amazing! And very intriguing. Wink

Only problem I'm having is I've installed both the Windows EXE files from the latest github release, Qortal (the app 1.3.5) and the current UI. Running the UI and the app is no problem. It does use a lot of memory but I got memory to spare!

I just am stuck synchronizing the app at 68% but it says on the UI that I am stuck at just short of 60,000 blocks.

I have peers connected, are there ports I need to let through my firewall? Also my windows notifications said I received a message from a Qortal user when I ran the client first last night and I can't find it anywhere in the UI. Sad

The UI still has a few little bugs... such as the bug you're mentioning now...

I would suggest...

  • kill the UI
  • Wait for the core to be 100% synchronized.
  • restart the UI

See if the caching issue is resolved.

(This is literally just an issue with the UI caching the incorrect block height, and not displaying correctly, as long as when you mouseover the blue Q icon on the taskbar, and it says 'synchronizing xx% - height - xx,xxx' you're good, just let it finish to 100%.)

When it gets fully sync'd the icon on the taskbar, upon mouseover, will say 'not minting - height - xx,xxx', at which point you're sync'd. THEN start the UI, and you should be good.

Once you're sync'd and account created, go into 'communications - Q-chat' and send a message in 'Qortal General Chat' and I will send you some QORT so that you can register your name on the chain, and potentially join whichever groups you may be interested in joining on the chain.

You can also send me a PM on-chain by going to 'new chat' and sending to 'crowetic', and message me. Smiley

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation.
It is very good that it is not necessary to re-download  DB every time to a new PC if you need access to the BTC.
What other coins do you plan to add to the Trade Portal in the near future?

Absolutely, that's what I'm here for at the moment, is to clearly explain the plan and details of the project in ways that people can understand. My pleasure.

At the moment, the plan is...

  • Build support manually for a library supporting LTC
  • Build support manually for local LTC support and internal LTC wallet

Every coin Qortal supports, we must build EVERYTHING manually, as there honestly isn't anything out there good enough to be part of our codebase, and since EVERYTHING in Qortal is TRULY DECENTRALIZED, the only way for Qortal's Trade Portal to function, is to have NATIVE support for EVERY listed coin on the platform.

This means that for Qortal to support a coin, our development team must build FROM SCRATCH both a library, AND a wallet, totally securely, to support the coin we're planning to list. So it's a little effort involved.

However...

once we list LTC, the next focus becomes THE VOTING SYSTEM. As this is the plan for the future of the platform overall. Everything is to be controlled by votes of the users, with influence based on their measured contributions to the network in the supported methods.

So we list LTC, then we build the voting system, and the voting system is then used to put up PROPOSALS to list other coins in the future (as well as make any and all important decisions on the platform.)

So we will do the LTC listing to have a faster, cheaper coin to trade with, then focus our attention on making everything we have perfect, and building the voting system, which then controls future listings, based on proposals and subsequent votes by leveled users of the system.

Hopefully this helps you gain some clarity with my current ideas for the future.

REMEMBER – This is a LOCAL WALLET, you are NOT DEPOSITING COIN anywhere. You are simply MOVING THE COIN TO ANOTHER WALLET YOU CONTROL inside Qortal.

That's awesome. True decentralization.
But how can I get my BTC private key if it's in local wallet ?
Suppose I am in another city and don't want to trade on Trade Portal anymore and I need to transfer my BTC.
The entire Qortal database is in another city, BTC inside this database.
Can you provide instructions on how to access private key?
After all, I will not take with me everywhere the entire Qortal database, which already takes 8-10 GB
.

You will simply log into your account on another installation of the core/ui and your same BTC xpriv will be generated and saved in the new db. You simply need to backup your Qortal Account, with the encrypted backup file, the BTC account will be the same for each Qortal account.

It is insecure to give private key directly. The most secure way to get back into the same wallet, is to import your encrypted saved Qortal backup, and do it that way.

I do not like the idea of dumping the xpriv unencrypted, it gives a method for the xpriv to potentially end up in the wrong hands. Doing it in the method described above will yield the same results in a much more secure fashion.

**Also a NOTE** - You do NOT need to sync the entire Qortal Chain, in order to make transactions on the BTC wallet. So... you can simply INSTALL the Qortal UI and core, then send the BTC out while it is still synchronizing, if you don't want a full Qortal setup on the other machine.

Something else to keep in mind - we WILL be offering a method in the future, to allow a Qortal install to NOT sync the entire chain, and only the 'top'. So you will in the future be able to utilize both Qortal, and BTC, without having to sync the entire chain.

We have, however, decreased the db size by quite a bit in the new version, AND made it so the sync times are a LOT faster... However, in order to get full advantage of the first point, you WILL have to re-sync the chain from 0 with 1.3.5 installed... unfortunately the older versions of the db retain the larger size and there isn't anything to do other than sync again from 0 then re-import your minting key if you're a minter. Keep in mind, if you have orders placed, you will want to remove them and put them back after the re-sync. (which you can do even after deleting your db, with the new feature in the UI to remove 'stuck orders'.)

Hey, I just set up a node on a server. But Im not sure where to look to get an invite to mint. Ill definitely have good uptime on my server, I can offer that. Is there a process to go through?

The best place to get sponsorship to mint, is either in the internal Q-Chat communications in the Qortal UI, (which requires a fully sync'd Qortal node to utilize) or the Qortal Discord server (for now, until we fully move everything to Q-Chat once we have a few more features completed.)

The community is very active and helpful. Join us.
