41  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] NiceHash.com - sell & buy hash rate cloud mining service / multipool on: December 21, 2017, 05:28:21 PM
The only issue I had was after the password reset, when it logged me in the first time ok, but then wouldn't recognise either my new or old password on the second visit so had to reset it again.

The emails are coming through quickly and fine though, got 1 after each failed login and after the password reset, try your spam/junk folder.

Anyway, just an aside for the thread.....serves them right thou Smiley
As another aside I got one of the very first titan's, and pointed it at litecoinpool.org, and I was ranked at #3 on the pool

Now down to #7510  Grin
43  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] NiceHash.com - sell & buy hash rate cloud mining service / multipool on: December 21, 2017, 10:55:44 AM
Interesting that they are back online so soon.  They do say that they will announce in January how affected miners will be fully reimbursed.  Looking forward to the details of that announcement before I consider mining again.

Indeed, I used to be both a buyer and seller but the stupid API restrictions put pay to the buying part a while ago which is lucky really as I used to have to keep a large balance to do it.

As to the selling, well I was lazy and wanted more BTC, but then enforced absence has sent me to Awesome Miner & MPH. Some people claim to be making lots more but I haven't noticed much difference in income to be honest, the clincher for me is that the fees are lower and I don't need to keep a huge balance on account due to silly BTC fees, so I can withdraw daily in any coin I choose.

So for me, it will take getting my money back and some other methods of withdrawal adding (which in turn could mean they can lower their fees) **

** I reserve the right to be a hypocrite if the rates on nicehash are significantly higher than elsewhere  Grin

I have a Neptune and a Titan sitting around. Not sure it is worth firing them up though understand they will be marginally profitable. Thoughts?

It will depend on your electric rate, but the titan should definitely be profitable (here it's $0.16kwh and after deducting that it makes about $10 a day)
45  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] NiceHash.com - sell & buy hash rate cloud mining service / multipool on: December 06, 2017, 08:38:49 PM
And another web service that doesn't know to secure funds in a cold wallet.

After all the hacks, you'd think this would be common sense by now.

Idiots.
46  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: December 05, 2017, 02:24:21 PM
I was there, I managed to dodge the Bitmine, Hashfast and ASICMINER fiasco's.

I wouldn't call KnC a scam however, they delivered hardware, I went and picked my Jupiter up from the office in Stockholm and ended up with a few of them. They may have gone down the toilet after the Titan and then closing up shop but they started out producing working miners at least.

This is somewhat different. With the eyes of experience we long time miners are trying to help people understand that it there are some simple tests to know if its a scam or not, they have all been outlined in this thread, but try as we might there will be people who get burned on this, and the market is much larger than it was in 2013, there are going to be millions lost on this if it proves to be a scam. Sad

Indeed, add BFL to the list of shady's and I manged to avoid them all.

The only one I got burned by was Avalon, their 3rd batch was ridiculously late and the chip sales never happened, coupled with the fact that my miner was supposed to be hosted in China and ended up arriving even later in the UK at our silly electric rates, that was a BTC110 big ouch.

But I will concur about KNC, I bought lots of their machines, and all of them arrived and work as promised.  It appeared like their last the Titan was going to be a $10,000 dud as I had lots of dead dies on mine but a quick warranty swap meant it ran as advertised and the BTC/LTC changed significantly to make it the most profitable machine I ever got off them, and it's still going at max speed today.  The only really scammy thing they did was set up their own data halls with more hashpower than they promised.

But anyway listen to the experienced voices in this thread, even if (and it's a big if) it actually ships at the specs advertised, it's way too long to wait and the difference between and it and an S9 that's available now is way too small to bother. Back when there was ONLY pre-orders you had to do a risk/reward analysis on the companies involved to decide who or what to buy, but now this seems like all risk and no reward.
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: November 09, 2017, 02:30:13 PM

I have bitcoin in a paper wallet prior to fork, now I want to redeem bitcoin cash can I import the private key to electron cash or should I rather move the bitcoin to a new paper wallet and only then import the private key from the first paper wallet?

Lots of people have used electron cash (including me) so at this point it seems safe, but for the small amount of extra effort involved transfer your BTC to a new wallet first, then if the worst does happen or you make a mistake your BTC are at least still safe.

I hope to have her news soon.

No such thing.....spondoolies had been out of business for 2 years or so....lol Smiley

Indeed, but no doubt his inbox has been flooded with lots of offers to purchase these non-existent products  Smiley

So how does everyone feel about the chances of getting your tokens bought out by wex? Still tempting to double your btc, but with the whole FBI deal, payment issues and so on, it sure is a gamble. Thoughts?

Well the market is answering that question, when the site relaunched tokens were worth around 60%, now they are down to 37% so users don't seem to believe, but you could almost triple your money if you have big balls. Cheesy

Seems like a big risk IMHO.
50  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] NiceHash.com - sell & buy hash rate cloud mining service / multipool on: September 28, 2017, 03:06:32 PM
Does anyone expiriencing troubles with nicehash for the past 2 days?
What I have:
1) Periodically "Unable to login due to system due to system maintenance". Login was unaccesible! I have couple of orders and I could not stop them, change or anything else
2) Often instead of proper API response we have HTML-page, about "system maintenance" and "couple of minutes". It's not offline page, it's response, but with HTML instead of JSON. My selfmade bot went crazy, and I rewrote it around 8 hours to properly handle this shit
3) When API sends HTMLs whole marketplace was down, coz it depends on API also. By the way, old marketplace was working!
Is this DDoS? Why is silence in Nicehash twitter? Maybe we have to start worrying about our bitcoins on Nicehash?

I have been having problems with my bot as well, like you it's only been for the last few days.

If the site is down, there isn't a lot that can be done, so those don't bother me too much, but getting lots of these errors
HTTP/1.1 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable
and it appears to be happening mid script, so my guess is there has been a recent change to the frequency of API calls and they are now being rejected.

The docs do say that you should wait 3 seconds between each one (not sure if this is recently changed), which is what I have had to do to get it working again but it's not ideal.

Unfortunately with a bot there is no real way to avoid api calls, I only like to get a small percentage so I need to work out the speed available on both nicehash and westhash (2 calls). You need to scan all the orders to determine the current lowest price (2 calls), then you need to scan your orders to see what price you are currently paying (2 calls). This is before you even start to add/change/cancel/top up your orders
51  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e hacked ?? on: September 18, 2017, 12:03:32 PM
Well I didn't think they would come back, so kudos to them for doing so.

They always had the bulk of the LTC trading where I was most active, but in their absence I moved my trading to Poloniex.

I had intended to return but they appear for the moment to have lost the volume but most of all the 0.001 withdrawal fee on btc I used to put up with, I am no longer prepared to do so. I'm paying 0.2% on every trade and they are just gouging on that withdrawal fee as they send multiple transactions for a fraction of the amount that they charge to just one person, plus the fees are too low to confirm quickly.  By contrast Polo only charge 0.0001 and it always confirms quickly.

So welcome back and goodbye, cashed out my BTC and will let the tokens ride.

Hi please update claymore to 10.0

Just download it and replace the files in the /bin_3rdparty/claymore_dual folder that's what I did, worth it as the new ETH+LBY is more profitable than the previous ETH+DCR, just remember to run the benchmark.

Thought they said that they'd credit deposits up until August? Made one on 25th July (day of bust) and it's not showing on my balance.

It looks like this might be happening now.

I logged in yesterday just to check all my balances and they were correct, about an hour ago got a pop up that 2 LTC has been credited to my account. I was mining direct to the wallet at the time, so these would have been sent between the time the site went down and me swapping the mining pool address.

And the latest update via twitter ...

Update5! Important! 08/09/2017

Exit from the current situation with the arrested Fiat:

1. Last 14 days we were engaged in struggle for your means, it was possible to gain control over 55% of funds (depends on the course), the remaining 45% are arrested funds, the most part in fiat. As the arrest is withdrawn from the accounts, the amount will decrease.

2. What is the way out of the current situation we see:
2.1. Work under the current BTC-e brand is not possible due to unresolved issues from the Office of Financial Crimes of the US Treasury.
2.2. At the moment, we are negotiating with a group of investors (an investment company), about buying and prompt launch of the service and repaying debts to customers. Further, the process of repayment of debt obligations will be described in more detail.
2.3. After we transfer all balance sheets of the investment company, we will recalculate the balance sheets.
2.4. The conversion procedure, taking into account the available 55% of funds:
2.4.1. All liabilities for fiat (USD, EUR, RUR) will be transferred to BTE tokens (1 BTE is 1 USD) at the exchange rate on the date of conversion. Probably, for more operative closing of promissory notes, ICO will be held on BTE tokens.
2.4.2. If you have on the balance the amount in koin, then you will be written off 45% of the balance of coins and credited with 45% of BTE (1 BTE is 1 USD). At the exchange rate on the day of conversion.
2.4.3. If you have a balance in BTE, then you will be credited with 45% in coins (the sum will be divided into 7 different coins equally BTC, LTC, NMC, NVC, PPC, ETH, DSH) and write off the amount of 45% in BTE.
2.4.4. Upon all recalculations, all users will have the opportunity to withdraw 55% of their funds from the system.
2.5. The investment company works in compliance with KYC, AML and the licenses required for this activity, so all users will need to undergo verification.
2.6. Tentative start dates end of August.

3. All debt obligations will be closed primarily from operating income from the investment company's commission, as well as from the funds we plan to sue from those who illegally arrested them.

The closing of the debt will be based on the principle of buying BTE tokens from the market.

The next update will provide more details on the procedure for accessing information on your balance sheet and when these funds can be withdrawn.

From the BTC-e team we officially inform that all the funds that were in the reserve fund (including all our income) were transferred to pay off the debts.

P.S. A warning! The cases of posting fake links on allegedly our new domain have become more frequent. All official information about our service is placed only in our twitter and from our official account on the forum.

Sincerely, BTC-e team

Latest update from BTC-E...

https://twitter.com/btcecom/status/891928666065707008

....

More detailed information about what happened to the BTC-e service.

On July 25, 11:00 the FBI staff came to the data center where our server equipment was located and seized all equipment, the servers contained databases and purses of our service.

Almost for 6 days we could not get from our hosting provider the sane information, what happened to our servers because of this information we publish only now.

July 28, the domain was confiscated.

To date, part of the service facility was arrested by the FBI

The next update will include information on what options are available to restore the service, and also the procedure for obtaining funds, in the event that the service is not started. In the current situation, if the service is not started before the end of August, then from September 1 we will start the process of refund.
In the next 1-2 weeks, we will evaluate and publish information about how much money fell into the hands of the FBI and what amount of funds is available for return.

For all those who buried us, I will remind you that the service has always worked on trust and we are ready to answer for it.
The funds will be returned to everyone!

Arrest of the Russian Vinnyk Alexandra:
Officially declare - Alexander was never the head or employee of our service.

Sincerely btc-e

P.S. In the subject write questions as far as possible we will answer them.
56  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] NiceHash.com - sell & buy hash rate cloud mining service / multipool on: July 27, 2017, 09:06:42 AM
Ok, I have no clue what I am doing or if it's profitable but I just like to learn stuff. I bought some hashing power on the live marketplace on nicehash for cryptonight because i like to have monero. I've managed to actually be mining on a pool from suprnova. The question now is why would I set my hash speed limit to for example 0.01. If I set it to 0 there would be no limit and I don't have to wait so long. Wait is the reason nobody does that or at least I don't see it.

If you set your order speed to 0, all you will likely do is drive the price you pay up and reduce your potential profits, because all the bots will just outbid you.

As it's a market place, you need to find a good balance between the speed you want and the price you pay, and this will constantly change.

Maybe have a look at the nicehash bot...

57  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e hacked ?? on: July 27, 2017, 09:00:10 AM
I'll be very surprised if they ever come back online.

Sure it looks like someone else has access to the servers, that could be good news, but put yourself in their place.

At the moment they may still be anonymous, but your partner in crime knows who you are and he's probably going to tell the authorities everything in the coming days/weeks/months.

Also you know you are now a target of the US, so why set up again and give them more chances to find you, much easier to take the coins you already have and stay out of their way, I expect the 5-10 days note is just buying them time to wrap things up.

58  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] NiceHash.com - sell & buy hash rate cloud mining service / multipool on: July 26, 2017, 01:43:08 PM
The current highest is 40 sats, how is it "weird" that it got confirmed with 5.35 sats?  Undecided

Where are you getting that amount from, bitcoinfees website is still showing 260 sats ?

In good news Nicehash seem to have listened and increased it from 5 to 20 sats on my last transaction.

In bad news, 3.5 hours later and no sign of it confirming.
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling on: July 25, 2017, 10:18:37 AM
However i still don't know what to do..

If you don't know what to do, then the answer is to do nothing.

Just keep your private keys safe and wait to see what happens.

Nobody knows what is going to happen x weeks/months down the road, don't rush into anything.
60  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I don't see why big blocks are a problem, even 10 MB blocks right now aren't. on: July 13, 2017, 09:45:55 AM
the problem is the initial block download/verification (first sync) and the propagation and verification of new blocks.

the synchronisation is not a problem. the actual headache is that cores UI is not set up to function until synchronisation is complete.
as thats the real headache people gripe and moan about in regards to syncing
EG
no user balance or being able to spend until node has downloaded certain blocks that contain the users UTXO.
this can be fixed by having the UI function in Lite mode where it grabs a UTXO set first. or even just requests UTXO from peers of the keys the user owns. and then synchronisation becomes a background issue that can be done as and whenever the user pleases.

thus making a node spendably functional from the first hour

I currently have 3 nodes running and when the code for Segwit2x is released that will go up to 4. I have always run a node since I started but at the moment I want to make sure I am ready in case anything bad happens and that I will have a fully synced node running each type so that I can safeguard my bitcoins, probably a bit paranoid but better safe than sorry.

So anyway I feel the pain of that initial download/verify/sync having done more times than I can remember, and have wondered why it HAS to be done that way.

'New' nodes may not have any transactions of their own to download, and they may only want to run a pruned node, so surely it should be possible to do this in a backwards way similar to what you are suggesting, maybe with an option during install.

Do you have transactions to import ->
Yes -> Start from 0 as it works now (or like in your suggestion)
 No ->
Do you want store the full blockchain ->
Yes -> Start from current block - x blocks (eg 2016 blocks), get the node up and running and usable then grab the previous blocks in the background (again like your suggestion)
No -> Current block - x blocks (eg 2016) which then makes it a pruned node always holding just the previous x blocks.

This would surely help the number of nodes to grow ?
