Best of luck and votes to you!

That's not a bad idea. I offered to donate to WikiLeaks for each of my family members. Was surprised by the number of my own blood who were opposed.
403  Economy / Goods / Re: Cuban Cigars on: November 27, 2011, 01:23:19 AM
I don't think they are worth me breaking laws to get. They are contraband here. But thanks for the info. Best of luck.

Oh come on, Gringo. I sat next to a guy on an airplane who buys cubans in Europe, asks the airport sales clerks to swap dominican labels who comply every time, and brings them through customs in hand every Christmas. No one really gives $hit.
404  Economy / Speculation / Re: Omg its true, bitcoin is the future! on: November 27, 2011, 01:17:18 AM
I hope they or someone else starts to provide depth and liquidity soon. I really would prefer to trade there as well, but as long as MtGox has 80% of the market, it's a self fulfilling prophecy.

You realize that's not a self fulfilling prophecy, right? But if you avoid the service for lack of depth and liquidity, then you are fulfilling your prophecy.
405  Economy / Economics / Re: Elliott Wave Educational Video Series on: November 26, 2011, 10:54:10 PM
Thanks S3052. I think there is more exposure here and even dismissive/troll-y posts force me to reconsider alternative counts, which is only good. But I'll move immediately if this forum drops embedded images.

Continuing with the preferred 30 October count (extended with new data above), our little rally (black wave 4, implied but not drawn on the chart) must not breach $2.8 (the real bottom of 1.v). $2.6-ish is a more likely peak. If the fifth wave fails to break below $2, then we begin a slow but grand yearly blue wave III toward new heights.

My interpretation since 14 November is a corrective fourth wave extended/expanded flat. We are now in the c and final wave, which should exhibit five sub-waves, were hourly wave counts reliable.

Though I'm betting against it, if this rally peaks in the $2.8-$3.45, it would retro-actively suggest the "Swannell wave" count I shared last week. It would imply that the previous $3 sideways correction were a fourth wave, the drop a fifth wave, and our current rally a correction of a higher degree. Anything above $3.45 (before testing and possibly breaking below $2) invalidates all of my counts for the past month or two (reversal, month long triangle, downward impulsive failure).

The chart above is the "30 October count" applied to November data (with new font colors). The pattern since cyan wave 3, $2.1, 15 Nov, looks like an expanding flat correction. This past week's black wave C should consist of five impulsive waves up, however it is not possible to count even three valid magenta waves. If we strictly consider valid wave counts (and assume the cyan count is thus far correct) then bitcoin is in a tight squeeze. Cyan wave 4 must not cross into the price territory of cyan wave 2 above $2.8. Green 3 can not be labeled magenta iii because the following wave (green 4) would cross under magenta i. So, we count magenta wave iii extended with five impulsive green waves, leaving enough room for magenta iv to drop no less than wave i, $2.5, neatly in the suggested price territory of green 4.

Bitcoin has never been so neat and tidy on tiny scales. I'm willing to reject magenta spike i (likewise, the spike down to $2 between A and B), throw out the green extension, consider green 3 to be instead magenta iii, green 4 to be magenta iv and prepare for a cyan 4 peak (about now) in the grey band $2.6-2.8.

I'd have some very specific requests, as Goat in N. Thailand flaked out on me. There are gardens in Hsinchu which produce excellent Bai Hao. As I understand they allow a seasonal insect to chew on the leaves so that they are naturally bruised and produce a better fermentation. Is that common practice?

A miner who will jump to different pools depending on how they payout and when they found their last block.

I see. "Payout": gotcha.

"When they found their last block": Isn't that a classic Gambler's fallacy? (flipped five heads in a row, the next coin flip must be tails)

Cassandra sums up all analysis. Well, except for the clear foresight (or hearing in her case).

Mt. Gox will replace the Bank of Japan as the debtor of last resort.

I beg you Adam to look into a web-of-trust model, perhaps you should spend the weekend playing with PGP/GPG. Most likely your reviewers and thus their reviews are meaningless unless the pathways of trust can be demonstrated. Why shouldn't every merchant create numerous accounts and review themselves positively? What prevents competitors from reviewing negatively. Are larger merchants more trust worthy than small? Who are these people and why should we care?

It's an interesting idea and Taiwan is an appealing location (for me personally because IMO the world's best oolongs are from your mountains and not a few of your elders play go).
414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What about a REAL Bitcoin community? on: November 25, 2011, 01:44:53 PM
Greenland has several times dabbled with creating its own currency, but it hasn't been practical given the tiny population and low revenue. I would not suggest that any government exclusively adopt this hyper-volatile bitcoin, but it makes sense to use it as a payment protocol, particularly among a thinly and widely dispersed population (affordable internet is a citizen's right in every tiny village). The government could accept tax payment in bitcoin, lock an exchange rate for ten minutes, perhaps run an exchange themselves. However, it's difficult to argue against every citizen opening an account in the capital with 'trusted' banks.
415  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who else thinks Bitcoin is going to $1000 by Jan 1? on: November 25, 2011, 01:22:21 PM
To be honest, I suspect Elliott waves are a bit dubious as well and joke about numerology and my astrology charts. I post my charts to keep myself honest and to learn from others. But I really enjoy reading dismissive posts by people with no strategy at all, who share new theories about direction dreamed up on the spot at every arbitrary change of price. I can only imagine they are losing their fortunes. Whether luck, forced patience, or substance, Elliott waves have made me a much more successful trader. I've nailed some pretty accurate highs and lows which continue to amaze me. I'm still at a potential loss since yesterday, and I must say it's nerve racking to stick to the plan, continue selling as prices boldly rise or to choose a bottom and buy after prices have fallen off a cliff. But to do otherwise is to submit to Mara, the temptations of emotion, the sure strategy of loss.
416  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Favorite Merchants who accept BTC on: November 25, 2011, 04:27:55 AM
There are a number of things for which bitcoins are best. For example, hand made crafts from indigenous people, precious metals, illegal items, sponsorship (political) or items for which you may prefer deniability (porn), internet services, micro or frequent payments, and trading in other currencies.

Unfortunately, bitcoins are poorly suited for wishing wells, penny race cars, snorting coke, origami, toilet paper, wall paper, tipping strippers, bookmarks, and camping fuel.
417  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who else thinks Bitcoin is going to $1000 by Jan 1? on: November 25, 2011, 04:16:02 AM
Here, if the MtGox price of bitcoin goes to $1000 by January 1st, 2012 I'll give Mr Owens a bitcoin for making such an outlandishly absurd claim and being right about it.

Will you buy and hold a coin just in case?

What did you read? I don't know many myth books, none in English.

There's a huge collection of modern Arctic (and Antarctic) literature that will get the testosterone flowing. Knud Rasmussen, Peter Freuchen, Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen, Roald Amundsen, Robert Peary, Ernest Shackleton, Robert Scott. I just finished a good read by Alvah Simon titled "North to the Night".

Not the way I heard it but...

As I remember it, he’d fashioned a chisel from his own excrement to chip his way out. In Peter Freuchen’s account of his 1924 journey through Canada’s far north, the Danish explorer recounted how in a driving storm his sled dogs had refused to go any further. He took refuge under his dog sled, overturned against the wind side of a large boulder.

While he slept, snow had buried his makeshift shelter and he awoke to find himself entombed and his feet painfully frozen. Barely able to move, he’d scraped at the hardened snow. After many hours of agonizing effort, Freuchen remembered how, during the previous day, his sled dogs’ turds had frozen solid almost instantaneously in the extreme cold.

Freuchen thus thought to resort to his frozen poo chisel. Despite narrowly escaping a slow death he lost an entire foot to frostbite.

Perhaps what pushed the lead over the edge and off the page was this addition:

His is not the only such tale to come out of the north. Famed Canadian ethno-botanist, Wade Davis, recounts a similar story collected from an Inuit community on Baffin Island.

An elder had resisted a 1950’s Canadian government plan to relocate the Inuit into settlements. In an effort to force him to move, his family took away all his tools and implements.

The elder stole out of the igloo that night and dropping his caribou and seal skin drawers in the harsh cold, he defecated and shaped the rapidly freezing feces into a knife. He spit on it to form a sharp saliva edge and butchered a dog. Using the dog’s ribcage as a sled and the hide to hitch onto another dog, he “put the shit knife in his belt and disappeared into the night.”
