401  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 08, 2021, 06:56:17 PM
I think the ICC should add reserve day. Because if the matches are not broadcast, the broadcasting TV channels are damaged. And these broadcasting TV channels are a major source of income for each board. So the ICC should keep a reserve day in each series even if it thinks of the broadcasters.

I really doubt whether they would do that. A few months back, they were discussing about reducing the duration of test matches by 1 day (i.e to make it 4-day matches instead of 5-day). And here we are talking just the opposite (to increase the duration from 5 days to 6 days). First of all, the popularity of test format is falling like a rock. No amount of tweaking by the ICC is going to slow it down. Cricket fans want more of T20 cricket, but the oldies of the ICC are still romantically attached to the test format.
402  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 08, 2021, 06:43:32 PM
I think there is something superstition on the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Bangladesh. Australia being a top team suffering so bad to make a win makes me think in such a way. In the fourth T20 the target is just 104, Australia had reached the target losing 7 wickets and 6 balls left. In this match Dan Christian and Ashton Agar have contributed with 39 and 27 runs. If one has lost the wicket, this match could've gone into the hands of Bangladesh.

Even in this low scoring match, there was one over which went for 30 runs. Dan Christian hit 5 sixes in the over which was bowled by Shakib al Hasan. Without that over, Australia would have recorded their 4th consecutive defeat against Bangladesh. Anyway these matches don't matter now. Australia has already lost the series, as they went down in the first three matches. The next two matches are just for formality. One thing is sure. Australia has some serious introspection to do, after their performance in Bangladesh and West Indies.
403  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does Signature campaign increase ICO credibility? I see few good ICOs recently on: August 06, 2021, 05:16:31 AM
Signature campaign can improve the exposure of that particular ICO project. If those users carrying the signature posts in popular sections, then you can expect to receive a good number of hits. But remember that it can't be compared to the full-fledged advertisements. There is a size-limit on the signatures and you can't include graphics and all. But I don't understand why the OP has mentioned credibility here. If a trusted user is displaying signature from a particular project, I don't think that it will give that project any additional credibility.
404  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happen if US ban cryptocurrencies? on: August 06, 2021, 05:03:37 AM
Drastic steps can be expected as long as people like Janet Yellen remains in power. And in any case Joe Biden steps down and Kamala Harris becomes the president, then I am afraid that you will see CCP-style economic policies in the United States. But how effective can be a ban in the United States? There are tens of millions of users in the US, and even if we assume that 90% of them comply with the government order, it leaves out millions of others. So is the government going to jail all of them? They will do what they are now doing with torrent downloading. A few "masterminds" will be arrested, to scare the rest.
405  Economy / Economics / Re: EU wants to ban crypto anonymous transactions and wallets on: August 05, 2021, 03:20:58 PM
Europe covers a lot of powerful countries that makes up huge impact towards crypto for the past years. If ever this is made possible and gets accepted as a law, it will make a significant change towards bitcoin's value which will more likely be detrimental. Though that's the case, there is no guarantee yet that it will be passed by the government but we should stay updated so that we may know what trend might occur as it takes place. Always make sure that you are well aware of the happenings with regards to crypto, it is a very important task of an investor specially when it is dealing with huge and rich countries.

It was just a proposal from one of the officials (Mairead McGuinness). There is no support for this move from anyone else. At this point, I am surprised that so many people took it seriously in the first place. And even if someone wants to convert this proposal in to a law, it is going to take many years of lobbying and consultations. For start, it needs to be approved by the European Council as well as the European Parliament. This step alone can take many years. And by that time, Bitcoin will be recognized as legal tender in multiple countries and no one will be stupid enough to support such regressive moves.
406  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 05, 2021, 03:08:42 PM
I would still say that India is having the advantage at this point. They still have 6 wickets in hand, and are trailing by just 58 runs. On top of that, we need to remember that the Indian lower order is really strong, with the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur. But it needs to be seen how the Indian players handle the combination of James Anderson/Stuart Broad, who have a total of 1,140 test wickets between them (without any doubt the most experienced pace bowling pair ever to play test cricket, since the first test match was played in 1877).
407  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympics 2020/2021 : Discussion & Predictions on: August 05, 2021, 11:51:00 AM
Disappointment for the Indian fans. Two crucial matches in wrestling lost today. Ravi Kumar Dahiya settled for silver after losing the final to Zavur Uguev of Russia (Men's freestyle 57kg). Deepak Punia lost the bronze medal match to Myles Amine of San Marino (Men's freestyle 86kg). But still, this is one of the best performances ever by the India athletes. The tally as of now stands at 5 (2 silver, 3 bronze). And a few matches are still remaining, such as the third place match between India and England in women's field hockey.
408  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin as a speculative asset or as currency on: August 05, 2021, 11:30:45 AM
There is no single answer to this question. To whom? Investors, banks, the government - Bitcoin is an asset to them, they want it to be and they fear it becoming a widely used currency, thus, they collaborate and try to offer a misleading alternative - digital currencies, like Yuan.

For most people, it’s something in between. They want to make transactions without being traced, but, at the same time, accumulate Bitcoin and subconsciously wish for the price to grow to make a profit.

It is not "something in between". Bitcoin is suitable for most purposes. BTW, even the US Dollar can be used for investment purposes. Trillions of USD worth of treasury notes and bonds have been issued by the US government. And these bonds/notes are essentially US Dollar which is used for investment purposes. Regarding Bitcoin, it was originally designed as a currency. But nowadays, it is used for multiple purposes - for making payments, as a store of value, and finally as a speculative investment asset.
409  Economy / Economics / Re: Higher Inflation Is Here to Stay for Years on: August 05, 2021, 11:18:44 AM
Bitcoin must be a great asset to fight against hyper inflation. The simple difference of bitcoin from our fiat helped that to become possible. If bitcoin was designed with unlimited supply then probably you cannot depend on bitcoin to fight against inflation (then bitcoin and fiats may not have big differences as well Tongue). Higher inflation is to stay with us for years as incoming days food production may diminish and economic revolutions may not happen due to lack of innovation and shortage of manpower and many other similar reasons but governments may not stop printing money whenever they need.

The governments were just looking for an excuse to print unlimited amounts of banknotes and the COVID 19 pandemic gave them exactly that. If you look at the increase in M1 monetary supply of various fiat currencies, it is nothing short of scary. I checked the M1 supply of dozens of nations, and I saw this pattern with each of them. Governments around the world are printing money like there is no tomorrow. And anyone with a minimum intelligence would understand that this will have far reaching consequences to the economy.

410  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 💰 Summer Tokyo 2020 💰 Discussion and bet thread 💰 Summer Game 💰 on: August 05, 2021, 10:21:48 AM
Finally Indian men's hockey team had won the bronze medal defeating Germany 5-4. This medal is won by India after a 41 years wait. Hockey being the national game of India is under big expectation on every Olympics. Finally this time something good had happened winning bronze targeting for gold.

Until 1968, the gold medal in field hockey was always won by either India or Pakistan. But then the European nations started giving more attention to hockey and in 1972 India was relegated to the 3rd position (FRG won the gold medal). They won the gold medal in 1980, but that edition was boycotted by most of the western nations. And since 1980, it was a long wait until 2021.

There is another chance for a bronze medal for India, when the women's team takes on Great Britain tomorrow. India has never won a medal in women's field hockey ever since it was included in the Olympics (1980). Great Britain is ranked 4th as per the FIH rankings, while India is at the 7th position.
411  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 05, 2021, 10:14:56 AM
I watched yesterday’s match. The teams perform well enough as a state league. With the help of this league, the Indian team will find young and talented players. The match between SMP and CSG was held yesterday. The batting of NS Chaturved and Kaushik Gandhi fascinated me.

For now, the BCCI has imposed a ban on non-Indian players and restrictions on players registered outside the state from participating in such leagues. But if 2 overseas players can be included in each team, then I have a feeling that it will attract worldwide viewership and increase the quality of the matches. The BCCI don't want to do that, because they believe that such measures will dilute the viewership of the IPL. IMO, this is baseless thinking. IPL is not going to get impacted by state level leagues such as TNPL and KPL.
412  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Uruguayan Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Treat Crypto as Legal Tender on: August 05, 2021, 07:49:07 AM
I think nothing of that was needed. It just creates more difficulties for who wants to invest and work with crypto currency. So far, crypto universe has been a great place to be because it is accessible and easy to be introduced, especially due to not being legal tender. Look how absurd is that proposal of being necessary to have the government's permission to start mining crypto currency.
Those who have been here since the beginning should be proud of being part of such a wonderful age of crypto currency. Because now things are just going to get worse and worse with growing governmental influence and regulations that don't respect the individuals and their appeal for less bureaucracy.

I don't understand. The proposal was to remove obstacles and not to create them. If Bitcoin is recognized as a legal tender, then it will make the lives of cryptocurrency users much more easier. They don't need to pay capital gains tax on profits from Bitcoin, since it will be considered as a currency (rather than an asset). Making payments with Bitcoin will get easier, if it is recognized as legal tender. On the other hand, in countries such as the United States, it is extremely difficult to deal with cryptocurrency. Since it is recognized as an asset, every transaction needs to be reported in the income tax return, with all the details. It can be really tedious.
413  Economy / Economics / Re: In COVID-19 everyone needs motivation on: August 05, 2021, 07:27:51 AM
A very sad batch year for graduates. I think government should step up and address this issue. What if this pandemic would still close schools and have virtual classes for a decade? More and more will suffer from this mindset of some companies.

At least in some of the states, they are asking the students to appear for offline exams. Because widespread fraud has been reported in online exams and undeserving candidates are scoring very high grades. But the students (as well as the parents) are protesting against this, because vaccination hasn't yet opened for those under 18 in India. So essentially the government is asking unvaccinated students to appear for exams, at a time when the delta variant is causing huge number of deaths and hospitalizations.

Anyone following the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL)? I know that it is a state level competition and doesn't have any overseas players. But I watched a couple of matches and was amazed with the quality of the matches. Some of the well known IPL stars are also taking part in this year's edition, and a few examples are Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shahrukh Khan, Sandeep Warrier, Thangarasu Natarajan, Anirudh Srikkanth, Murali Vijay and Washington Sundar. The matches are shown live on Star Sports, but you can also watch them on Hotstar.

^^^ Not a fan of the NFTs. I always thought that it is just another way to scam unsuspecting cryptocurrency investors and in this particular case that seems to be precisely what is happening. It would be interesting to know how much of the profits will be going to Rario and how much the players are expected to receive. If the players (or at least the national cricket board) get at least 50% of the proceedings, then I am OK with it. On the other hand if the proceedings mostly go to the corporate and they distribute some crumbs to the players, then this should not be supported.
416  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 05, 2021, 05:03:56 AM
What is happening here, England all out for 183 runs which i did not expect and India saved the day without loosing a wicket. Full credits goes to Mohammed Shami and when they have a opening bowling partnership with Jasprit Bumrah they become one of the best opening bowlers in cricket and Mohammed Shami looks really fit and bowling like a champion and the match depends upon how the Indian batsman performs.

England lower order just collapsed. When Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root were at the crease, they were at 138/3. They lost the remaining 7 wickets for just 45 runs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami were exceptional and this is why I always prefer to include the best bowlers in the playing XI irrespective of their batting skills. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur are capable of adding 10-20 runs while batting, but they were not in good form yesterday (together conceded 89 runs, and picked up just 3 wickets).
417  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 04, 2021, 05:23:20 PM
LOL.. I just checked the latest T20 team rankings from the ICC, and not surprisingly Australia has now dropped to the 6th position. In normal situations, we expect them not to drop out of the top-5. Bangladesh on the other hand is still struggling at the no.10 position, just ahead of Zimbabwe. For Australia, the ranking in both ODI and the test formats are much better than what they have in T20I (#3 in both cases), and this means that their issue is specific to the shorter format. Maybe, rather than blaming the players it is time to look in to the team composition and strategy?
418  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 04, 2021, 02:37:17 PM
Just when it looked as if Bangladesh was cruising towards a victory, they lost the most important wicket of Shakib al Hasan. The trick is not to lose anymore wickets now, as the required run rate is still less than 6 per over. However if the Bangladeshi batsmen do something funny, then Australia will come back in to the game. The advantage is still with Bangladesh, but they need to bat cautiously. This is a golden opportunity for them to get a rare series victory against one of the big-3 teams (and that too two months before the T20 world cup).
419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If all crypto users to KYC on: August 04, 2021, 01:56:08 PM
The purpose of crypto will be defeated if KYC will come to play, as the government is the main regulator that we have to comply with, we have no choice otherwise we will be penalized. I don't know, before I was so optimistic that decentralization is the key to transparency but what's happening now makes me believe that we can't beat the decentralization.

Already in the European Union, a mentally challenged official has proposed to outlaw "anonymous" cryptocurrency transactions. Now this is ridiculous, because all the cryptocurrency transactions are anonymous and you can't attach your personal data to any cryptocurrency wallet. What they want us to do is to give them a list of all the wallet addresses that we own, and inform them everytime we move our coins. These guys want to treat cryptocurrency on par with fiat currency.

That is fine with me, but then they should make cryptocurrency as a legal tender, and classify Bitcoin as a currency instead of a speculative investment asset. That would mean that we don't need to pay capital gains tax on our gains from cryptocurrency. If this is done, then I don't have any issue in complying with their new regulations. But they can't be selective.
420  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 04, 2021, 01:44:33 PM
It looks like Australia will provide a target of 122 runs.

At the end of 20, The Austrelian team are able to collect 121 runs. What a prediction mate! Your prediction is absoulutly correct. Australia has given Bangladesh a target of 122 runs. Australia will also concede defeat in this match. 122 runs is not a good collection.

Really pathetic performance from the Australians once again. When Mitchell Marsh got out, they were at 99/3 with 4 overs to go. I expected them to make at least 135-140, with so many wickets in hand. But that was it. Marsh got out and their batting just collapsed. 99/3 to 106/7 in almost no time. 130+ would have been a decent total (but by no means good enough to guarantee a win). 121 is just going to be cakewalk for Bangladesh. Congratulations to Mustafizur Rahman, who proved that pacers can also take wickets at the Mirpur stadium.
