421  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you beleive in the concept of "Luck"? on: February 07, 2024, 11:09:57 PM
Luck is a real concept. If you say that something depends on luck, it just means that it is based on chances.
And yes, statistically some people are gonna lose more. But if everyone would gamble for eternity with unlimited money it would even out.

Just because this isn't possible tho, we see many people losing everything before they can bet more. Or others reaching casino bet limits before they can martingale bigger amounts to even out their winnings.
But also there's another important aspect. People thinking their Luck will turn, just fall into the gambler's fallacy.
Superstition is also a big myth that in my opinion gsmblers should avoid. Ok to say jokingly, but avoid people that really believe in bad luck. Maybe one day you will be their bad omen  Grin
422  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your response in placing live bets with a friend at a live sporting matches on: February 07, 2024, 11:03:39 PM
I have exclusively only had the exact opposite of this happen to me. When a match with teams I like happens and I have a stake, o feel more satisfaction watching the match if I have placed a small stakes... But there's an important catch, I only place small stakes..especially when gambling with friends, you can't expect them to have the same money as you.

On that note, I don't know what 10$ is for Nigeria but it probably is a lot of Naira. So if losing that amount makes you feel sad, always best to not place bets at all and just watch the match for fun.
423  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: This was my highest risk. on: February 07, 2024, 01:33:53 AM
For counting something as a huge risk, I think you'd have to consider what's being risked. Over here in the OP according to the images, only USD 0.1$ was risked, but thankfully to the large multiplier by these odds in the parlay bet, the winnings were close to 27.4$, albeit in Nigerian Naira based on the symbol.

It's an interesting outcome for sure because the chances of all these predictions to be correct were obviously really small. But nevertheless I wouldn't count this as a huge risk. Because the initial stake was really small. It's just a lucky win in my book. Still very impressive though.

Also I wonder if the bookmaker doesn't loose out to be offering a 55% bonus on winnings.
424  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Provably Fair- How Can You Know? on: February 06, 2024, 05:19:28 PM
Card games would be a bit more complicated to get a provably fair algorithm behind them but it's possible at least for the single player ones. I've seen on stake.com video blackjack have a provably fair algorithm for instance. In the website there's explanation on how it works. In theory, you could set up some hashing software on your computer to check the provable fairness more trustlessly.

But actually most people will just stick to third party websites like https://www.btcgosu.com/tools/provably-fair-verifier/ and dicesites.com which have their own verifiers. But I am just not sure if there's a verifier for poker games. Does the casino you play at provide more information on how to verify these bets?
425  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: February 06, 2024, 02:10:49 PM
So the prediction I made on PAOK actually winning came out to be true  Smiley
~Snipped~
Also seeing panathinaikos win 2 to 0 against Olympiakos gives out some hope that Panathinaikos might be still chasing a title or perhaps even European dreams this year.
Sadly PAOK is doing all too well but the matches ahead from how are gonna be crucial on who developes a lead. Did y'all catch any bets this week on Greek league? I hope you took up betting on the PAOK match as I said  Grin
I didn't expect anything less from PAOK; it was an interesting match, to say the least, and a great earning opportunity. My whole family was always a supporter of Panathinaikos. Although I'm not that much of a fan, I still support them from time to time. It was a tough match, and I anticipated a draw, as mentioned in my previous post, but didn't expect them to win at penalties, so that's good for them; they seem to be in great shape.

On the other hand, it was disappointing to see OFI lose to Kifisia. I expected them to win as they've been in great form the past few matches, but I guess it happens to the best of us.
All indications keep showing that PAOK will dominate this season. It was very much expected from them to win this match for sure. But they're well on their way to get on the Greek CUP's final as well where they'll likely play against Panathinaikos again, as we're on the semi-final stage now we're not 100% certain yet but this is the most likely scenario. So unless Panathinaikos has some shakeups happening, probably we'll see PAOK getting the cup too.

As of OFI, yeah, disappointing match result but not entirely unexpected. I sense that they'll be looking for a new coach sooner or later because the current one seems to not grasp the strengths and weaknesses of Greek teams that well. Losing to Kifisia isn't a great look.

I'm eager to see what's gonna go down in the upcoming matchday though:

From the above matches the most striking to me would be PAS Giannina vs Aris

Giannina is dead last in the standings so naturally Aris is favored for the win, but 1.82 is too good so I think I'll take it. Wink

Another good pick would probably be betting on Panathinaikos' win against Panseraikos. It'd be an easy feat for Panathinaikos in my opinion so 1.42 is worth taking.

The most entertaining match would probably be AEK vs PAOK

Also visible in the above picture are the standings which I intentionally left in the pic. If PAOK loses and Panathinaikos wins, which is not that of an unlikely scenario, then panatinaikos ties PAOK in the standings as first. Let's see. Grin
426  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The scam of FAKE fixed matches on: February 06, 2024, 01:57:31 PM
I've actually seen this one plenty of times. Kudos for the write-up.

Just using some logic should hopefully make it clear why this is a scam. Firstly, fixed matches are illegal, and why would anyone openly advertise the fact that they are in on fixed matches? Secondly, if there were indeed a professional match fixer, why would they let anyone else know, as that would diminish their profits?

Sometimes greed gets the best of people and they fall for this. But it is entirely avoidable.
Well believe it or not there have been actual fake matches marketplaces but it was nothing like what I talked to in the OP.
For one, yes, anything advertised through social media involving gambling is likely to be a scam. META, Facebook's and Instagram's parent company, is notorious for accepting scam ads which lead people to being tricked again and again.

These will get reported and perhaps deleted but by that time the scamers don't care. They Just get new URLs, rebrand their marketing, and keep going. Or if the scam wasn't effective enough, they just create an entirely new scam altogether. It seems as though these scams are staffed by many skilled workers. Some being active in chat constantly, the websites and marketing materials being well designed and they even have support agents responding in due time for their fake websites. It's amazing. So it's easy to tell that these are well organized operations, even more organized than certain businesses I've known.
427  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Resources for a more reliable paroly (multi-bet) strategy on: February 06, 2024, 01:51:12 PM
It's fun to try your luck when you haave a limited amount of coins to play. Yes, it could be just luck as you can't really predict who will win in every match. But having just 5 Dogecoins to win more than 3000+ Doge if you predict 10 boxing matches, it's still worth trying the luck.

I have not won any of my multibets actually. I only do it because I couldn't resist thinking of getting lucky at some point.
But it will sure depend on which sport you wanna try. you may have a good chance if you are a fan of the sport if you choose NBA, I guess you know more about those teams and which one could potentially win.
That's another one of the big advantages of gambling with crypto.
Since cryptocurrencies are much more divisible than FIAT money is, it's easy to gamble with small or even extremely small amounts.
For bets where the odds are super high for example in a large parlay multi-bet slip, it would make sense to bet with a very small amount like 100 satoshis each time. So in the chance that you win, even a single slip over many, its easy to recoup your losses.

But even if you keep losing, if it's a very small amount each time then you'd have to lose a very significant amount of slips without any winnings in between for your bets to result in a net loss. Crypto bookies allow for this kind of flexibility thankfully. So it's a good place to experiment with new strategies if you want.
428  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can gambling addiction lead to domestic violence? on: February 05, 2024, 05:14:33 PM
Perpetrators of domestic violence and abuse need to accept their full responsibility without putting any scapegoats in the middle.

Same goes for if you're a victim. Never accept any excuses. Have a bold stance against violence in all of its forms and state clearly that it's unacceptable.
Questioning if gambling can lead to violence is not that of a serious take to me. Psychological issues can lead to many things. If someone has issues with his mood, anger and compulsiveness then these need to be dealt with accordingly and in his own responsibility should avoid activities that might make him a danger to society, let alone his own family.

If need be, such people should avoid gambling. But better yet they should be accountable and fix themselves to avoid future troubles instead of blaming their bad manners on external factors.
429  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Resources for a more reliable paroly (multi-bet) strategy on: February 05, 2024, 05:08:47 PM
-cut-
As you can see, parlay is a strategy where you're doing somewhat of the opposite of a martingale strategy. You take your winnings and original stake, and put it towards another match. This means that you increase your bet based on if you won. The risk here is that if you lose once, you lose all your stake plus winnings that were built up.
-cut-
Isn't that just reverse martingale? Only difference being that martingale is loosely based on 50/50 probability. Or more like it lures people thinking it makes sense. However with sports betting it doesn't work like that. Not that there would be anything wrong doing reverse martingale, but it's far from the idea of original reverse martingale.

I have however tried this with basketball and "sure bets", as combining them creates decent multipliers, and while it can work for a while, all it takes is one loss to get start from beginning, it hasn't really been successful so far. And obviously i realize that there are no strategies that work, that there's only luck. But it's still fun to try and look for winning patterns that doesn't exist, as that's hard coded to human brains benause of that, it's emotionally rewarding.
The idea is similar to reverse martingale in its fundamentals because whatever you win gets compounded for the next bet. We can create an example to illustrate this even better.

You create a bet slip on outcomes with these odds:
1.50
1.20
2.78

The total multiplier on your stake for this slip should be ~5x which is the result of 1.5*1.2*2.78.

The logic of this is that if you win your first bet your money is multiplied, if you win the second bet your money plus winnings is multiplied... With this going on for however many outcomes you have put in the slip. The good thing with parlay multi-bets is that you don't have to way for matches to end in order to get your winnings and apply this strategy. You can bet on multiple matches on a single slip even when live.

Gambling is gambling and nothing works in gambling. What works for you may not work for another and knowing what will work for you is something you don`t know as long as gambling is concern. The only thing within your control is your stake so we should talk more about the method which will help us control our stake and prevent incurring irreparable losses. For the outcome of a game, we cannot control. For instance, the author has noted the English Premier League as reliable for multi-bet. Yesterday, Chelsea played against Wolves. Chelsea played at home and the odds were in favour of Chelsea to win but they lost. The question now is will multi-bet strategy save you if you have selected Chelsea? only luck will make you avoid the Chelsea game.

In my opinion, a gambler is always a loser. If you can not stop gambling then control your stake. No method will work. If there is any method that works then gamblers all over the world should have known this method and should have been rejoicing every day because profit should be certain even if we don`t win every day but then the constant advocacy for not relying on gambling as a full-time job tells us one truth; in gambling you must lose no matter the strategy only luck makes you rich.
This is precisely why I've added the disclaimer I added in the OP. But we have to also consider that many people who are already placing their money in gambling maybe want to try something new. Perhaps they can get lucky or in combination with their knowledge and intuition parlay bets can be a profitable strategy for them.
430  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Management on: February 05, 2024, 04:34:27 PM
In terms of budgeting, if you run out of funds, you really need to zoom out a bit and think further than just gambling.

You NEED to start counting your spending.
And I don't just mean the bills and important transactions. Even if you spend money on a singular piece of gum or a bottle of water at a store, count it in. There are great apps to count your spending. In the past I have used My Expenses from F-droid. It's an open source free app that is actively developed and donation supported.

At this stage, I would recommend stopping gambling all together until you can sort things out to begin with. After you count all your expenses for a month or two, consider based on your current income, how much you're setting aside. Really if the amount of money you can set aside is not satisfactory, you should reduce your gambling dramatically. Only gamble with a very small portion of what you can actually set aside.
431  Economy / Gambling discussion / Resources for a more reliable paroly (multi-bet) strategy on: February 05, 2024, 04:28:16 PM
I started a discussion last week, looking to find out what others think in terms of placing money on multi-bets (parlay bet slips) and if they have a strategy. Based on the feedback and my own experience, I thought other gamblers might find it useful to explore some resources on how to improve their parlay bet strategy. Let's begin with the basics:

What is parley (multi-bets)?
We can start by having a look at the dictionary definition about what parlay means for betting.

As you can see, parlay is a strategy where you're doing somewhat of the opposite of a martingale strategy. You take your winnings and original stake, and put it towards another match. This means that you increase your bet based on if you won. The risk here is that if you lose once, you lose all your stake plus winnings that were built up.

Advantages of parlay betting
One of the main advantages of parlay betting is that you can increase the odds on your staked money by betting on multiple matches. Bookmakers today even allow to create betting slips on concurrent matches even when they are live.

Strategy
First, a disclaimer: It's important at this point to understand that a betting strategy can't be fool proof. Always apply principles of limiting your stakes to what you can afford to lose and follow through with your life's normal priorities before anything else. Betting is only for fun and not a replacement to normal income!

Now when it comes to strategies of placing parlay bets, you have to consider what's your goal and adjust your stakes accordingly. There are two main alternatives on how to approach parlay bets:
A. Combining a few matches with high odds, can result to getting a high-paying bet slip. You will however have to place your bets carefully.
Β. Placing many bets on mid to low odds outcomes so that you can achieve a high total multiplier with the combination of many likely outcomes.

In either case, it might be helful to place bets near or above a target where a certain multiplier is satisfied with your stakes. This makes calculations easier. For example if your target multiplier is 5x, you're remaining in profit so long as you win more than 1/5 bet slips you play with parlay. And that's an important aspect of parlay bets. You will be losing a lot! But as long as you win more than you lose, you can say that your strategy and intuition is working.

With that out of the way, let's now consider what makes a match a good candidate for being added to a parlay bet slip.

1. Reliability
When betting on any sports match, unlikely outcomes aren't usually your friend. Since with parlay strategies we're trying to build a good bigger multiplier by combining many matches, it's good to be able to rely on a team's history and recent appearances to better predict outcomes. Usually we find teams having a more reliable performance in big leagues of popular sports where some of the world's biggest associations play.

2. Market participation
Having a market with poor participation by other punters, is going to result to unbalanced odds calculations more often than not. And when bookies are unsure of what people consider the favorite for winning a match, they generally tend to lower the odds even further. Which makes such match ups even more uneven for the player as the edge increases even further against the one placing the bets.

Which Leagues' matches satisfy the criteria of being good additions for parlay multi-bet slips?
In my personal opinion, big football leagues like the English Premiere League, Spain's LaLiga, Germany's Budesliga as well as Italy's Serie A are some of the best leagues to find matches to bet on for parlay bets. In these leagues, if a team is on top of the ranking you can be sure that the odds given to it winning make sense. So at the very least you won't get trapped in betting on low-odds outcomes as likely and see them get overturned very often with these leagues. Plus also, markets for these bets are plentiful and have widespread participation, so the odds aren't reduced by the bookmakers due to decreased participation.

Other sports categories and what to avoid
In terms of other sports, you'll have to look at which countries host the top-leagues respectively. For instance, the U.S. hosts one of the world's most popular basketball leagues, the NBA. Similarly for Hockey, there's the the NAHL etc. But there are some sports categories that should be avoided entirely for parlay bets in my experience. For instance amateur or college leagues, handball, volleyball, individual sports and women's sports. As sad as it is, given that individual sports, college and amateur's as well as women's leagues aren't receiving major funding and aren't as organized as well on an association or league level, leaves them very prone to having very unreliable outcomes even when you're betting on the best. Teams will often overturn results that were considered unwinnable there. So these bets are better to be placed individually other than in parlays.

That's all for now. Let me know if you find this useful. Feel free to share your feedback and if you'd like to see more like this Smiley
432  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Older men vs Younger boys in gambling, Which enjoys Gambling for fun the more? on: February 04, 2024, 10:08:17 PM
I think gambling is something that can be enjoyed regardless of age. Here's some examples:

Young children that have maybe just gotten in their teens or even before that sometimes, will obsess over what in game drop them receive whenever there is supposed random chance involved to unlock a virtual item such as a digital in game knife that looks neat or a character skin tnat makes their game avatar appear in a different manner than usual.

It's weird but sometimes these even involve money so even children can gamble these days and sadly if it's for game items it's mostly considered legal. Some young people are even facing symptoms of withdrawal over these matters.

On the other hand, a more seasoned gambler won't need the front of a video game to enjoy his gsmbling activities. He can do it outright simply for the money and still enjoy it. If you think about it, playing cards of dice which are some of the most popular games, are not that interesting in terms of graphics. It's just chances and money. So older people, without any age limit, purify gambling down to it's simplest form and still enjoy it. Each one activity is valuable in terms of enjoyment in its own rite.

Anyone know how could it be possible to see how many of OCEAN's mined TXns are from this new BRC-20 like on-chain technology called RUNES? At least with other such spammy things so far it was pretty easy to notice them by pasting the block tx on ordinals.com. I'm pretty sure Ocean mines Runes but I am not sure how to check entire block so far...
434  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The scam of FAKE fixed matches on: February 04, 2024, 09:51:21 PM
Not the match.

Let be honest, these is just the casino. No matter what match we are gonna to bet, If the casino provided these on their website is their responsibility. So, the problem is the casino are the scam not the match.

Always use casinos that have good credibility, especially when people already using them. Remember, people experience is really good rather than a score ratings on some website review because is easily be manipulated by the casino.
The thing with this scam is that these matches are so out there that if you were to search for them occasionally you would only come up with this bookmaker. Other times it would be a match with similar tream names, but on different days. For example without the U18 tag that the supposed fixed match would have. In theory it can be realistic for a U18 team to exist and play on another day, however if it was a real match, there can't only be one bookmarker in the world featuring this match... Let alone a bookmaker that came out really recently.

So yeah, it is actually an issue with trust, but having a match where you're supposed to win 10x guaranteed maybe makes some people less likely to check.

This seems more like a superstition other than anything else...
Just like Koreans think your life is judged by your blood type, or how many indian people still kinda somehow follow the caste system...
Based on how someone gambles they come up with character traits? I wish life was that simple so we could judge people with things like zodiac signs or character stats.
437  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Investment in gambling on: February 03, 2024, 11:59:23 PM
I think the largest casinos are starting to be more and more privately funded these days.
The more exciting games and innovative gambling games like slots are usually privately funded, and even the few companies that are publicly listed that offer slots to privately funded casinos, they are becoming monopolized lately. Just look at how many acquisitions Evolution gaming has made. The few competitors they have will either go bankrupt soon or be acquired imho.

So I don't think at the moment it's too much worth it to take up the opportunity to invest in gambling in any of the mainstream ways, unless you have enough money to start a competitive and innovative casino.
438  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What's your multi-bet (paroli) strategy? on: February 03, 2024, 11:57:38 PM
I think for me the best strategy to make multi bets is mostly having reliable performance by the teams that match against each other.

And then again, because the initial odds are provided by the bookmaker, having greater participation in a match, gives more realistic odds to matches.
So for me gambling with multi-bets on days that large leagues are playing like EPL, Spanish LaLiga and NBA are playing matches, is a better time to make bets in parlay.
So all in all, I'm starting to see some sense of strategy in all this. Maybe I'll spin this out to a separate thread with my own opinions a little later.
439  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What remarkable thing have you achieved with the money you won from gambling? on: February 03, 2024, 11:40:08 PM
I think the remarkable thing for me would be that in spite of being a gambler that has been gambling for years I have not been at a loss.
Profits aren't great but I'm glad to be paid in enjoyment from gambling and related activities.

So all in all, I'm sure there's chance to win big, but that's a very small percentage of the gambling scene. And I'm just glad that my luck has existed to an extent that I'm not in the vast majority that hasn't lost more than what they've won in gambling in total.
440  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: February 02, 2024, 11:58:55 PM
Wow, the Panathinaikos vs. Olympiakos match offers some great odds for both teams; what a derby! I might consider betting on Draw; nothing is obvious in this case, but despite what I do or who wins, I'll be watching it for sure. 1.5 is quite decent for what I could call an almost guaranteed win. Atromitos Athinon stands no chance against PAOK; the same likely applies to AEK vs. Asteras Tripolis. This weekend seems fruitful, and I wish you good luck as well!
Yeah 3.0 odds for a draw is quite decent as it's not an unlikely outcome between the two.
This was also the result when Panathinaikos and Olympiakos matched against eachother in the Greek cup

with Panathinaikos eventually winning in penalties...

So betting on draw here in my opinion makes a lot of sense. But as a game the outcome is a little unpredictable. Both teams haven't been in their best form, in spite of being the teams in the league with the best funding, they keep getting beat by PAOK...
