421  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-03-06] CCN: SWIFT Panel sees a Future for Bitcoin in International Banking on: March 07, 2015, 06:27:48 AM
Positive article. The part that I didn't like was "What is the technology that is enabling Bitcoin currency to move effectively with more visibility and at lower costs. How can we take that into our current systems and make them more efficient, faster, cheaper and more transparent?” where if the banks were to try to implement the bitcoin technology into their own coin they lose the security of the decentralized ledger and thus a hacker that gets ahold of their miners would control their money and could potentially destroy their currency in less than 1 day.

Hopefully they will eventually figure out that the ledger being decentralized is a huge key factor to its success.
422  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2015-03-06 Bitcoin Magazine - Auction Participant: Price Not Significantly below on: March 07, 2015, 06:19:00 AM
Well I'm just glad that the bid of 17% under market price didn't win ANY of the lots.

According to bitcoinwisdom tools if a company were to buy the coins at market price for 4 lots, total of 12,000 coins the market price would reach $300. So hopefully the coins were bought at or above market price to avoid the price creep if they got them in the market.
423  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: March 07, 2015, 04:49:13 AM
So I tried the Trezor with the Electrum 2.0 wallet today and it worked like a charm. Glad to see another wallet service that has implemented the Trezor successfully. I'd like to see if you guys could make any progress with getting Mycelium or Wallet32 to implement it next Cheesy
424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can anyone confirm who's BTC address this is on: March 07, 2015, 03:59:24 AM
was going through the block chain and found a odd address with around 80 thousand dollars in transactions daily was just wondering if anyone knows if this is an exchange or something...
1KYXrw4Ftkmomfs4iyVXUSqQeRX75Unoi8

Why the fck do we care?

Or why the FUCK YOU CARE?

Seriously, if that turns you on, go check banks transactions.

Geez lay off a little bit. He simply has a question about something that interested him, no need to rage.

A quick search on the address didn't bring anything up for me. It is trying to be claimed in this scam though: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=977912.0 which you should NOT send btc too.
425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 06, 2015, 01:45:09 AM
There is a wall of 200 btc wall at 0.00194....

Aaaaand... it's gone.

Instead, there is 200 btc buy support above the yesterday's low  Grin

EDIT: that low was about 36h ago

Where are you trading at and with what app? I'm using Poloniex for buying my Monero, but the UI is soooo slow and nearly broken on my android.
426  Economy / Economics / Re: Help me understand... on: March 06, 2015, 01:39:34 AM

I prefer total price stability.
Over slavery  Wink

Sooner or later, people will realize that price stability is only a belief, it has never been realized. Look at all the world currency wildly swing against each other, it is only a best-effort control by central banks, and Swiss central bank just gave up the control and make it swing 40% in a couple of hours

But again, comparing to money creation, inflation or deflation or stability are all minor issues, it is the money creation bring the slavery to mankind, not inflation
`
agree, the current money creation process is the root of all evil, inflation is just a manifestation of it..

alltough i still dont get why price stability is such an important goal

Both inflation and deflation are evil.

If the US economy is destroyed because of a few percent deflation in 2008, it's no wonder that sellers completely stop pricing products in BTC during its price instabilities.

The only one will be destroyed are the banks, and the whole scam exposed. People will learn from it and reorganize the economy with what they have left. However, FED printed 30 years' money to save the banks and now people did not learn anything from it and they have been ripped off even more due to this large scale of money printing

The Fed has no choice but to increase deposits at the Fed branches.  The banks were destroyed by the Fed's bungling deflation which caused everyone to walk away from their homes, that in turn and the Fed-raised reserve ratios causing the banks to require extreme amounts of reserves.  Cash has not deviated from its long term trend.  If the Fed did not follow the Fed Funds target, we would have another Great Recession.  Here's an explanation despite my hero's misspeaking about the higher order money creation process.

As for the banks, the ones who were bailed out and then protected by Dodd-Frank did well indeed.  The median household was annihilated.  People, like in the ultimatum game, scorched the earth.

Deflation "made them walk away from their homes"? Or they could no longer afford to pay their mortgage since they got loans which took nearly 100% of their disposable income and their interest rates went up just enough to make it so they could no longer pay their mortgage?

Most americans have a fixed income. Deflation would end up giving them extra dollars in the pocket as the price of goods decreased and their pay stayed the same.
427  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-03-05] Nobody Buys Art With Bitcoin on: March 06, 2015, 01:34:55 AM
There are a few artists on these forums that sell art (primarily bitcoin related) for bitcoins. If you look at the population of current bitcoin adopters you'd see that its mainly males, usually techy or nowadays people into day trading. You would first have to find art that appeals to these people and find a way for them to buy it online (most techies aren't going to go to a conservative art display).
428  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 06, 2015, 12:06:02 AM

It's gonna get worse...or better depending on your point of view. We're headed for parity.

Most definitely if not an even lower Euro. The ECB is going to have more QE per month than the US did and they aren't even the world reserve currency!
429  Economy / Speculation / Re: You can pay your taxes now in BTC?!?!?!?! on: March 05, 2015, 05:36:58 PM
I wonder, will they be holding the BTC as BTC in cold storage (the state getting their hands on an experimental investment!?!) or are they going to auction them off, using BitPay, regular exchanges!?

If this is the case, we can assume that we will see regular dumps in the market, which is not ideal for bitcoin's price.

They will definitely be using a payment processor to convert to fiat. I doubt they will hold any in the near term.
430  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 05, 2015, 06:15:09 AM
Seriously guys, you think that $5k by end of 2016 Is possible?

 Smiley Smiley Smiley

I wrote that a long long time ago. 2011 I think. It's been quite a ride so far. The problem with being ahead of your time is that you never know when (if ever) the rest of the world will catch up.

Markets can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent.
-John Maynard Keynes

Well that is why you just don't got margin/leverage and either choose to hold cash or choose to hold BTC, whichever you think will outperform Tongue
431  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 05, 2015, 06:13:34 AM
i just sold some bitcoin coins for 0.45BTC
I was confused there, for half a second.
Only a half a second is impressive!
I've read it five times and I'm still confused.

Hmmm.... probably a typo and meant to write that he bough 0.45BTC..... unless he sold $121 (0.45BTC) worth of bitcoin?.

In other news: Further price drops tomorrow as people get worried about the auction results?
432  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Trading Simulator] A fun & free Speculation Game - ACTIVITY CHECK until 03-04 on: March 05, 2015, 06:09:10 AM
I finally made it to top 4 for now. If price keeps tanking though then down I go!
433  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-3-4] CD: 'Masked' Card Lets Online Shoppers Pay Anywhere With Bitcoin on: March 05, 2015, 12:04:17 AM

Online privacy company Abine has announced the launch of Bitcoin Anywhere, enabling Coinbase wallet holders to make bitcoin purchases at any e-commerce site

Problem that I see with this is giving them access to your coinbase account. Instead they should provide a QR code and wallet address that you send the correct amount of bitcoins to then it creates the gift card. Otherwise if that company gets hacked they could potentially withdraw your coinbase bitcoins, potentially force your CB account to buy more bitcoins through instabuy and send them and they know exactly who you are via coinbase so not really anonymous. I suppose they want/need to know who you are for AML/KYC purposes in the USA
434  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-03-03] IBT: Bitcoin price continues to surge towards 'fair price' on: March 04, 2015, 11:58:03 PM

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/cryptocurrency-round-bitcoin-price-continues-surge-towards-fair-price-1490237

Quote
The value of bitcoin has continued to surge over the last 24 hours, with a 7% increase taking the price above $275 (£179) for the first time since January.
...

The ALFAquotes Fair Bitcoin Price indicator currently lists $518.59 as the "fair" price of bitcoin, almost double its current market price of $277.

This price is based on the historical growth of bitcoin, combined with its future potential. This system is inspired by the Benjamin Graham formula adopted by investors.

"At the moment, as we can see bitcoin is doubly underestimated and this indicates how good investment attractiveness is toward bitcoin," ALFAquotes project manager Denis Hert told CoinDesk.
...

I've never heard of that $518 'fair price', here's the link to the Benjamin Graham formula they used to calculate it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Graham_formula

Fair price would be at least back down into the $100s for a limited time and then to go back up and level off at $300 to $500 levels again before going back up and passing the $1,400 bubble and being the base line for the price in the future. But again that has a lot of work and buying before it ever gets to that status and remains the level ground of BTC

I think a price rollercoaster like that is not the "fair price". If one was omniscient and could determine the true value of a bitcoin currently, that would be the "fair price" and it would change only when there is a change in supply/demand or fundamentals.
435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another Reason Bitcoin Should Succeed... on: March 04, 2015, 11:56:12 PM
I have posted crap like this before but a lot of things annoy be about fiat and I often think there must be a better way.

Today I went to a large retail park in my car. I wanted to pay for the car parking. The charge was 70p or £1.20 but unfortunately I didn't have the correct change in my wallet.

I then ended up borrowing a £1.00 from my wife to pay the £1.20 even though it would have been longer than we wanted to park for.

I went to the machine and tried 5 or 6 times to get the machine to accept the pound which it wouldn't do and kept spitting it back out. I ended up going back to the car and getting another pound to buy the ticket.

How easy would it be to have a QR code on the ticket machine for the length of stay. Scan the code, get your ticket. Done.

Yep this system is in the works. First company to start implementing a strategy like this that I know of is Parkt, more will follow in their footsteps

Most of the selling that took us from $282 to $272 was in one large red candle. Makes me less concerned for a continued downtrend.

437  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 04, 2015, 11:39:59 PM
Are we all waiting for after midnight to buy?

Why after midnight?  Something to do with the auction?

Because the buys have mainly been during the Western world's day time and then we get dumps during the Western world's night time, potentially the chinese are dumping while they are awake then the USA buys during our day.
438  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 04, 2015, 11:38:17 PM
should i buy more?

Of course! Dollar cost averaging all day every day man.
439  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 04, 2015, 10:17:56 PM
Of course as soon as I call a support at 280 it drops down 10 bucks
440  Economy / Economics / Re: Lyth0s' Economic Troubles Thread on: March 04, 2015, 08:16:29 PM
Posted this on another Spec thread but it is more fitting here.

Many messy implications.

http://foreignpolicy.com/2015/03/03/the-u-s-government-should-pay-anonymous-in-bitcoin-to-fight-isis/

The government wouldn't out source their hacking to make rich groups of people that could easily turn against the US in the near future. It is an interesting idea but most likely they would just hire from the inside so no need for internal privacy of the agent with government since they would be acting as an employee
