421  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is House Edge and how it effects gambling on: September 27, 2020, 03:41:32 PM
I would like to know What is House Edge and how it effects gambling ?
I am not new in gambling but still never understand this term clearly.

The term is simple: House Edge is the difference between the probability of casino's win and player's win. If I say, house edge is 2% then the probability that result of the bet will in favour of house is 51% and that of player is 49%.

Let's take a simple example of Dice game. Suppose a dice game has a house edge of 2% then it will pay you 2.00x for rolling above 51 or below 49. Ideally, it should be 2x for rolling above 50 or below 50. But due to house edge factor, the probability of you winning the bet as a player falls from 50% to 49%.
422  Economy / Economics / Re: Can Blockchain Gaming Drive Cryptocurrency Adoption? on: September 27, 2020, 03:03:19 PM
~snip~

It was a nice read! Well-written article. However, the main reason for the success of CryptoKitties was the monetary value associated with the in-game assets. It was similar to buying a new altcoin which gained huge pump recently. Remove blockchain assets from the game and you get an average Android-like game played by 8 years old kids. This sums up pretty everything. Blockchain can only be used in gaming industry in two ways - either for creating or storing in-game assets on blockchain using Smart Contracts or for in-game P2P trades between players.

I really can't see what Blockchain could add in multiplayer games that major video game developers like Blizzard, Valve and Ubisoft produce. Blockchain is all about storing immutable data in decentralized databases while multiplayer gaming is all about fast transmission of data between different peers. Blockchain is slow database while multiplayer gaming is all about speed.

However, I really believe blockchain still has very big role to play in gambling industry. We are going to see new blockchain based superior gambling dApps in coming years which will disrupt crypto gambling completely by removing trust factor.
423  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ BitcoinPRBuzz.com's ⚽ Spanish La Liga ⚽ Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 26, 2020, 03:47:34 PM
By the way, @Trofo would it be nice if we include the favorites of every pool participant in the OP? I would love to know which team does the other participants support.
Sure, I will just add them to the table in the OP as a third column. Of course a lot of participants have to let us know their favorite club. This is what I have from the Spanish thread where only a handful of us went public Smiley

Perfect! I am supporting Barcelona since 2010 and will continue to do so. You can add 'FC Barcelona' next to my name.

Rest of you let me know and consider it done. You can either PM me or just put it in the next post here in the topic.
I don't have a favourite team, only an anti-favourite team, which would be Barca Grin If you do the same for the ITA thread, put Hellas Verona in for me Smiley

Wooh! That was unexpected! Can I ask why so much hate for Barca? Cheesy

Although I am Barca fan, I love to watch Real games as well. I like Ramos more than Pique. In India, live LaLiga matches are only streamed on Facebook and it is always fun to watch Real games reading Barca vs Real fans fighting in comment section.  Grin
424  Local / India / Re: WazirX now offering Instant deposits through UPI apps on: September 26, 2020, 02:49:20 PM
Why there is two instant deposit options one say UPI is not supported but just below that it says supported.Anyone really tried to deposit INR using UPI apps?
Yes, I did a transaction of 100 INR using Google pay and it was instant. You can also use Amazon Pay and Paytm if you want.

There is only one instant deposite option on the app using UPI. I do not see two options there. It is similar to the above image.
In the above image itself it says the UPI is not supported but below option shows instant deposit with UPI so there is two difference methods to avail the balance?

The above link is for the old method which only works for IMPS and NEFT. UPI apps like PhonePe and Google Pay also provide option to send payment with the Account No. and IFSC code. People confuse this option as equivalent to Bank Transfer. However, in reality you are still doing transfer over UPI protocol.

WazirX creates a unique bank account number for every user. Money transferred to that account only from the registered account number of the user will be identified instantly by the WazirX bot. That's why UPI payments are disallowed in the first option and transaction will be reversed if you try to do so.
425  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ BitcoinPRBuzz.com's ⚽ Spanish La Liga ⚽ Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 25, 2020, 05:32:21 PM
Barca is even more of a mystery but I will never play against Barca on Camp Nou but away games are whole different story. Barca was always good at home no matter the team but they often had trouble away so I will try to cash on that.

Barcelona is no longer invincible at Camp Nou. Osasuna beat them in the penultimate matchday last season, the same day Barca lost the league after horrendous error from Bussi. Puig who was the best midfielder of Barcelona against Alaves in the last LaLiga game of the previous season is no longer in the picture. He was sidelined in Champions League by Setien which is understandable due to his acute experience but I was sure he will be starter in Koeman's Laliga Starting XI this season. But it turns out Koeman is more conservative coach than Setien and doesn't even want Puig in the squad, let alone a starter.

Two days left for the first game of the season and Barca hasn't sign any defender. The team only got Roberto at the name of Right Back. Suarez shipped, Vidal shipped, Semedo shipped, Rakitic shipped but signed nobody. Being Barca fan, I have no idea how we gonna perform this season, what to expect from the team. I am no longer sure if we could even make to the CL spot this season. But let's hope for the best. My pick for Barca vs Villarreal game is 3-1 which I entirely made out of emotional connection to Barca. But apart from this game, I was pretty comfortable making picks for rest of the games. I think I will be among Top 3 in this round as well.

By the way, @Trofo would it be nice if we include the favorites of every pool participant in the OP? I would love to know which team does the other participants support.
426  Other / Archival / Re: [Tutorial] Crypto taxes for beginners on: September 25, 2020, 03:19:26 PM
Not every beginner is US resident! So most of the information especially calculation and reporting info may not be relevant to every btctalk member. For example, in India, sale of cryptocurrency treated as LTCG if sold after holding period of 3 years instead of one.

However, this is a nice tutorial especially every detail about Capital Gain Tax such as offsetting rule, etc is worthy and I appreciate your efforts.

By the way, I have created Tax Guide for Indians here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5206607.0 and contains quality discussion about tax implications on various crypto events, especially replies from @teosanru are very handy for someone involved in regular crypto trading in India.

By the way, I think you made typo here:

Not all cryptocurrency engagements attract taxes. Here are the activities you need to pay taxes on:

- When you move your cryptocurrency from one wallet to another or between crypto exchanges.
- Donating cryptocurrency to a non-taxable charity organization
- When you buy crypto with fiat
- When you give cryptocurrency as a gift to a friend or family.

You meant activities you need not to pay taxes on, right?
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] GOLD - First 100% Liquid Stablecoin Backed by Gold on: September 25, 2020, 02:46:48 PM
Scammers impersonate legit persons/projects all the time, it's just something you have to accept it. The most they can do is spread awareness, and if people still fall for it, then it's no one's fault but themselves.

Also, always use contract address (find on official website) don't believe in directly added tokens or portfolio trackers.

The problem is that a name like "GOLD" cannot be copyrighted, making it just easier for others to make use of your efforts in marketing. Some can even be legit projects, although I expect that indeed most are scam.
While in wallet checking/ensuring contract address is correct is a must, I think that most exchanges don't show it and that can cause problems (people buying the wrong token).

Well, you can't expect to be spoonfed every detail.

One can go to the coinmarketcap and check on which exchanges it's listed. if you are unsure you can always ask exchange support (most have support on telegram where you can get instant reply to query), Digital gold also have live support on website.

Or better go to the 'Marketplace' page on the office website - https://gold.storage/en/market

All the supporting exchanges are listed on this page along with the direct link to the GOLD trading pair. Digital Gold stopped providing liquidity on Livecoin as explained here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5161544.msg54805410#msg54805410 so except Livecoin, it's ok to buy from any other exchange by clicking the link or directly from marketplace page by filling the form.

Few days back, I got the notification that I was mentioned in this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg55223981#msg55223981. However, I don't find any mention of my username in this post. This is happening for the second time that I got notification for such unrelated post. Is it normal or have I made some mistake while setting up the bot?

429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: private key doesn't work on: September 24, 2020, 04:54:48 PM
It did happen with me. I had some coins and a private key for backup. When I entered the private key on electrum, I was surprised to see my  balance zero. And after some seconds of shock realized that I haven't received anything and my receiving address was unfamiliar. So, I google some questions and found out that same private keys could have different wallet for segwit, native segwit and non-segwit. And I need to put p2wpkh-p2sh: (address starting with 3) or p2wpkh: (address starting with bc1) in front of the private key to access my wallet in electrum.

What happened to you doesn't qualify as a private key issue. There are various formats and processes of deriving bitcoin address from private key. A same private key can be used to generate any of the three type of addresses. So it is important to mention which address type you want the wallet to show. If your importing wallet is used different format that doesn't mean your private key is invalidated.

I myself don't use the private key but keep the keystore file and save it on USB and Email so it can be more secure.
Most people didn't recommend keeping those on email, I don't understand why you called secure?. Google, proton, yahoo, outlook have access to your email even you have a strong password.

He doesn't mean email password but the password used to encrypt keystore file. If you are using long and secure password to encrypt keystore file, it is not easy to brute-force the password even if you get access to the file. But still saving such files in email is dumb-ass move. It is better to keep things in your hard-disk than email.
430  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2020/21 on: September 24, 2020, 04:09:18 PM
Guys, have you checked "La Liga standings" right now? In the first and second place, no big teams are there. I am a bit surprised by this result even if it is still matchday2 and some big teams still didn't play yet (Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla). But I never imagine before that Real Madrid, Valencia, and Villareal started this season with unsatisfying results. Now, Granada and Real Betis are leading the table! Amazing starts done by these two clubs.

Nothing to surprise here. Granada had firing start to the season last year as well. The team even beat FCB at home in the start of the previous season and was the table topper for few matchdays. But now comes the real challenge, an away game against Atletico Madrid. I am pretty sure Granada will lose some points in this one.

While, Real Betis has to face reigning Champions at home. Madrid will win this one ease and go. Third seated Villareal will face Barcelona at Camp Nou and expected to lose 3 points as well.

So after Matchday three, although top three will most probably remain same but all three are expected to lose this weekend.

Suarez had great teamwork with Messi, hence his high performance. But lately, the decline in Messi's game surprisingly coincided with the decline in Suarez. In Juventus he would have been able to revive his career. There are still lower speeds. And in Atletico Madrid, it is unlikely ...

Declining careers and still the highest and the third-highest goalscorers of Laliga last season!!
It was awful decision from Barca board to accept Atletico Madrid bid for Suarez. Barca has potentially given edge to its direct competitor. Suarez still has good couple of seasons left in him and being Barca fan, I would be lot happier to see him on Barca bench making some impactful substitution across the season rather than being the front man of Simeone's team.
431  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Namecheap has finally enabled BTCPay Server on their top-up page on: September 23, 2020, 06:25:22 PM
Good news. I guess this must be a better option than bitpay now, had a recent issue with them. Waiting for a very long time to reflect the amount to namecheap even though there's lot of confirmation already, I at least wait more than 6 hours. Good thing I always topup days before the expiration of my host/domain/ssl there for auto-renew.

Perfect!
Thanks for the heads up. My hosting and domains are due for renew in two months. Last time I used BitPay on Namecheap to pay for the charges. But BTCPay is better and fulfills the true essence of being a bitcoin merchant. I will top-up a day before.
432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain Patents on: September 23, 2020, 03:44:13 PM

take money due to fad and buzzwords,  taking advantage of executives who do not know what technology can or cannot do, does not mean much. These projects may be raising money now, but are they sustainable?

As soon as these executives see that the projects do not give any kind of the return they are expecting (actually, they might not even be expecting anything), they will cut funding and these start ups will disappear just as quickly as they emerged.

These executives work in Mergers & Acquisition department. Their work is to take over innovative projects then sell those services to other companies and governments. There is one thing they are expert in, "cost manipulation". They know how to sell stuffs. I was reading about a startup acquired by one such big MNC in India -

The service of this startup is to bring transportation cost involved in Supply Chain on-chain. It was pretty simple idea with a little tweak that transporter has to feed expense on blockchain at the time of incurring that expense with digital footprint of bill on the network. Hence, anyone in top-level management of the company can directly verify which transporter incurred which expense unlike previous system where transporters were claiming general transportation expenses from their seniors on estimation basis.

So the executives of this MNC prepared a cost-benefit analysis statement showing the saving in transportation cost the companies would make if they adopt their service. And guess what? This MNC currently have number of customers in Europe for this transportation cost blockchain service. LoL!

~snip~
Are there no seminars or webinars conducted there explaining blockchain to these executives?

There are actually. My friend told me that industry experts come to explain the newer technologies like blockchain tech, Big Data, AI, Machine Learning, etc. to his department regularly. But I have noticed one thing when I search articles or videos on 'blockchain technology' on internet. They go like - Blockchain Technology brings Transparency, Immutability, Decentralization, bla bla without actually explaining how those things are achieved! Now imagine a middle-aged executive having management degree and limited computer knowledge sitting in one such seminar. How would he receive those words? He would surely consider blockchain as some magical database which would automatically make everything saved on it immutable, decentralized and transparent.

Wtf is Dhoni doing  Angry

As I said: "He needs 20-25 balls to get adapted to this season which I think would bring CSK in danger tonight because target is big."

The same thing happened. He literally wasted 13 balls before scoring his first big! Imagine if he hit at least 4 sixes among these 13 balls then he could easily led CSK to the win! He should stop hesitating and bat at 4th or 5th spot. Promoting players like Curran could help in winning a game or two but for long run, he has to step up as a leader in batting department. Faf Du Plessis can't alone take the baton for the entire IPL.
434  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: sportbet.one [IPL 2020] Prediction pool and discussion on: September 22, 2020, 04:24:04 PM

Well looks like Jofra Archer heard you.  Cheesy Cheesy and now I think even though the ground is pretty small 215 is going to be a big psychological mark for any team to chase. If CSK is able to chase this match I would really be happy to lose my point  Cheesy but yes imagine if there would have been someone like Stokes in the side instead of Tom Curran. Even 250 was easy on this pitch Grin

Frankly speaking, I really doubt if CSK could chase the target tonight! CSK batting lineup has huge experience but little substance. The combine age of the CSK openers is 75 (36+35)!! Cheesy

Apart from Faf Du Plessis, we cannot expect blazing performances from rest of the batting lineup in every game. All the rest are just 2-3 games wonders. Dhoni promoting Sam Curran above him in last game shows he's not fully confident to come and hit. He needs 20-25 balls to get adapted to this season which I think would bring CSK in danger tonight because target is big. However, I picked CSK for 'comfortable' win. Let see how it goes.

PS: I have decided to give sportbet.one a try. I will deposit on the platform tomorrow and make rest of my IPL bets there.
435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain Patents on: September 22, 2020, 04:11:18 PM
What is a Blockchain Patent ?

With the evolution of blockchain technology more and more blockchains have got published as well as into development. These Blockchains will have different use cases as well as have difference in the way it's been developed.

Probably 99% of those blockchains will die before their patents expire... so we will end up with a lot of patents and few projects.

Actually no! The way these big houses/conglomerates use the term 'blockchain' is entirely different from what we guys do! I have a friend who work in one of the MNC in Acquisition & Mergers department. He told me that 'blockchain' is quite a buzzword in industry right now. The startups which market themselves as blockchain-based project easily get funding.

So I studied more about that and the results were really surprising! Most of the executives sitting in these departments don't have any clear idea about blockchain technology. As a result, low-key projects which simply molding centralized databases into somewhat decentralization are raising millions here in India.

Even state governments in India are spending millions on these blockchain startups to bring their public operations on-chain like selling contracts and licenses. However, I was really amused the way blockchain technology was wrongly explained on those government websites.

So on the whole, if you read news like this one then just assume that they are selling their services in new packet because blockchain is hot selling point in industry right now. It has little connection to the cryptocurrency world!

Dears,

We have contacted CGF and agreed upon the roadmap of features we ought implement. Most importantly, those are changes involving the way we present things and not how we generate rolls or secrets, therefore the platform was and still is safe.

We plan to develop:
- a sharable roll verification screen for each game and
- a presentation of the next server seed hash in the seed generation screen.

The implementations will increase transparency of the platform and comply to all the Provably Fair rules.
Of course our all transactions are safe as always and you are most welcome to play Smiley On the other hand, if you want to wait until we get back our PF Certification, it will take us up to 2 weeks to develop and deploy all the changes.

Kind regards,
OneHash Team

Good to hear that! I just checked the platform and still found the old implementation, so I will wait for 2 weeks and then check again. Do notify us in the thread once changes have been implemented and you get the certification back.

Of course I know that there is nothing wrong in the current process of result generation but what good be the system if user can't verify its authenticity after making the bet. So, it is necessary that the correct flow of PF system should be implemented.

Also, I hope the same changes will be made on CyberDice as well.

Finally Sunrisers' game! I usually travel across India and watch at least 2-5 games of Sunrisers every year in stadium. But due to Corona, this year I have to stick to TV. Sad

So far, newcomer Devdutt has impressed very much. Fearless striking from youngster. And now March is injured. So the over which was expected to end comfortably has been turning nightmare for Sunrisers due to Vijay Shankar's horrible bowling.

When the likes of VK and ABD are yet to bat, we can expect RCB to score at least 200 unless Rashid Khan has some magic to present!

Any how, even if RCB scores 200+, Sunrisers have good batting lineup to win this one! Not to forget the due factor available in second innings.
438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is Decentralized Finance? on: September 21, 2020, 11:16:55 AM
DeFi is build on a flawed concept. In order to borrow money, you have to give on-chain collateral which in most of the cases is another Ethereum token. So in short, you are raising loan in one ethereum token by staking another ethereum token and that too in higher amount to cover collateralization rate.

Receiving LP tokens, staking LP tokens for governance tokens and all other bullshit add ponzi dimension to DeFi ecosystem. Not to forget the insanely high fees, which you already mentioned!

There are very few projects like Synthetix which actually have some real world application being DeFi project.

A normal lending platforms like Compound are waste of Ethereum network resources in my thoughts!

I've somehow climbed some levels up Superbru -- webtricks picked 4-2 on Spurs, so last week's wooden spoon explains why he's trying these weird scores;)

Hehe! The reason for my first week weird picks:

Round 1 was awful for me, both here as well in PL pool. I tried to be over ambitious and it backfired. Hahay had a superb week! 11.5 points in just 7 matches, not bad man!

I tried favoring underdogs and predicted upsets in every game in first week. But this week, I have been thorough in my evaluation. So far it's going above average. Other than Crystal Palace and Brighton wins (which were unexpected), I am close in every other game. I picked 1-1 for Arsenal game but Nketiah's late goal stole 3 points from me. Got points in rest of the games.

For Chelsea vs Liverpool, I am expecting 1 goal difference win for Chelsea. It could be 2-1 or 3-2. But I chose 3-1 in favour of Chelsea. Now don't get surprised once again if Chelsea wins and I get points in this one as well. Cheesy

I was thinking of adding one more paid spots but felt like this structure is better, if you would like to see another paid spot (lower rewards for the rest) then now is the time to speak up. If you have some other ideas feel free to share. In case we get another sign up I am adding a prize for 4th place for sure.

After game week 4 I will add prizes to the OP and then there will be no changes. What you guys want to do in case La Liga gets canceled (Corona or some other shit)? I propose we pay out the rewards if more than half season gets played and return the entry fee in case it does not.

Perfect structure, no change needed. 3 paid spots are perfect considering 13 participants. 4 will be too much.

As of cancellation, I don't think there's much possibility of that so don't worry. We will discuss more about that if we cross that path.

Round 1 was awful for me, both here as well in PL pool. I tried to be over ambitious and it backfired. Hahay had a superb week! 11.5 points in just 7 matches, not bad man!

But this week I had been cautious in making the picks. I think I will grab 10+ points in round 2. I used my prior La Liga experience to analyse before picking. Just for a fact, I was surprised no one else picked win for Celta De Vigo. Celta is tough team to beat at home, even Barca only managed 1 points in June after dominating the whole game. On the contrary, Valencia away from home is awful. If my memory is right then Valencia has failed to win any away La Liga game in 2020!
