I beg to differ. There's a lot of alternatives like the Electrum  and Armory present in the Alternative Client subforum.

I for one am pro-electrum. We're using it in a new product of ours.

Regular bitcoin client just isn't scalable, especially on mobile platforms.

Imagine 2,000,000 people downloading the blockchain but not serving it also. It would kill it.
4202  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcoinica - Advanced Bitcoin Trading Platform on: March 18, 2012, 11:11:04 AM
Classic. Password compromised, blame service for thief's actions instead of own insecure habits.
4203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Magazine on: March 18, 2012, 11:01:35 AM
Well, I agree with you partially. I don't want a refund either, I want the product I paid for.
And receive it you shall.

I just think it IS indeed worth complaining about, when you don't get what you paid for at the expected time.
I don't agree. We've already apologized for being late and at this point so late in the production process, anything ingenious ideas to 'speed it up' more would involve even more setbacks. We're being very smart about this, as painful as it is to see people annoyed, I stand by my decisions and smile at the work we've done so far, knowing just how many people will be surprised when they finally hold the glossy #80 industry standard perfect binded 64 page 4-color treasure that is the first ever magazine representing Bitcoin.

You can only excuse your delays with your lack of foresight for so long,
Who's excusing them? I'm proud of the current delays. The previous delays were due to lack of foresight. The current delays are just flat out man-hours. Full page illustrations aren't cheap and they aren't quick. Thanks for waiting though! I sure as hell won't be calling our artists and telling them to "hurry up" since they've been given an actual contracted period of time to complete them which requires additional review after the fact. The system that is in place now however, will make subsequent issues a timely and satisfying experience for all.

eventually you have to produce something, when you have taken peoples money for it.
We've already produced something, I'm just not letting it be published without achieving some moderate level of perfection. You'll thank me later. So will Wired magazine when they write about us.

What I am actually missing here, is you manning up and setting a deadline for the magazine to go to print
I think what you mean is, "Waiting on you to set a deadline that can't be guaranteed so more people can have more reason to be upset". No thanks. As much as I troll, I'm not dumb enough to fall into that trap. "I promise we will deliver on Monday!". What happens when we can't deliver on Wednesday because of a printing error that has nothing to do with us?  Roll Eyes We'll announce it when it's ready, and it will be the happiest day of the year for us.

Please notice that do not want a refund, but rather that I am interested in receiving the product I paid for. I think the magazine is a great idea, and that it looks promising so far, but all these delays are just getting out of hand imo.
There is no delay. We are on schedule. The schedule itself was delayed before. We're running full speed now on a system that actually works. Just because I'm not going to make shit up and tell everyone a definite date doesn't mean it couldn't happen tomorrow. I understand the frustration, but it's unwarranted at this point. Jimmy has fixed the flat tire and is riding home now. You can stop calling his cell phone to ask where he is.

Please excuse my rants, but I have a strong belief that you should live up to other peoples rightful expectations when you take their money.
Agreed. And I haven't stopped hearing the end of it from the other professionals I work with. "Matthew, why in God's name did you tell these people 2 months ago that we'd have a magazine? You should have waited until we actually published it." Lesson learned.

Can't wait till next month when the complaints will be in a subject other than history.

This auction ended.

The last bidder (and highest) was Jonathan Ryan Owens.

I'll PM you with instructions.

Thanks guys!

Cryptography, economics, sociology and political science are about as dry as a Sahara sandstorm. The only way to make this place more boring is if you add a subsection on different yarns for knitting. I would think people would want to follow the most ignored people around this forum for a little excitement in-between keeping current tracking their investment.

Except when in their own naivety they have come to believe that the ignored party in question is even remotely related to any negative outcome in their flawed investment "strategies". I enjoy being hated by ignorant people so it's a small price to pay to keep 5,114 times that many people entertained and educated.
4206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Magazine on: March 18, 2012, 03:11:40 AM
Why have you taken money for it already then, when there is not product yet?

What country are you from, Dansker? I don't know about other countries, but at least in the USA it is common practice to sell what is called "subscriptions". It is basically pre-ordering and reserving a fixed amount of issues to be delivered at a later date.

That sure is a pretty color you’re sporting on your Ignore button. Wonder why?

So Just now, I am committing to a 5BTC bounty to have a "Ignored by # peoples" feature besides usernames.

Awesome idea. I up the bounty another 5BTC, to 10 BTC. Make a new thread about this please (unless you ignored me too  Cry)

Can you both be so sure you wouldn’t be at the top of the rankings list?

Social experimentation is the most entertaining of exercises. Who cares if I'd be on the top of the list. It'd be useful and entertaining, and that's what I live for.

Because I paid theymos to make it that way?

I assume the reason it's the specific color it is though is because there are 10 people (out of 51,168 total members here) who don't agree with my criticisms but don't possess the linguistic savvy to articulate their defense so they resort to complete avoidance of all challenges. Either that or proof positive that I'm one of the more entertaining people here.

"you can be pretty sure a lot of leveraged positions (in both directions) are going to get fucked hard."

What if not enough. ask yourself would you pay 50k$-60k$-150k$ for this mistake ?
I dont think so. you would never do it until you get some insider Information.

Wait, but didn't you post insider information - that is, your position?  That's all the information that was needed to know how to liquidate you.  Whoever did it was smart enough to complete the transaction and close their leveraged positions before posting about it, and they got your money.  Sorry bro.

And his lack of response is not from his teddy bear advising him to remain silent. (It's because he knows he's wrong.)
4209  Other / Off-topic / Re: sucks-or-rocks.com : an idea for an idea repository website on: March 17, 2012, 10:30:46 AM
Keep spreading ideas people, but do it with people who fucking know how to make those ideas work.

...

So what if I register it and it takes off? If the author doesn't care, that's one thing--- but looking at his post, he seems to care, and why shouldn't he profit from the site?

I don't care at all if someone else does it.  Actually, that's part of the reason I posted it here.  If someone think such a site could be cool and actually implement it, that's all good!  I don't hav technical skills (especially in javascript) to do it myself anyway.

If he earns a lot of money doing so, he would totally deserve it, since as you perfectly point it out, it is one thing to have an idea, it is an other to actually make it come true.  And I believe money should go to the person who makes it come true.

Personnally, I would like such a website to exist.  Whether it is me or someone else who creates it doesn't matter.  I would benefit from it anyway, at least as a user.

Also, it would not just about ideas, but also about people.   For instance, one could enter "Lady Gaga" or "Justin Bieber".  I believe it could be fun.

o.

Then ignore my entire post.

... If it was like the U.S. ...

No thanks a lot, anything but that! They brought us Bush 2.0 and Tea Party 2.0 ...

... and Bitcoin, and its' developers, and most of its supporting userbase.
4211  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinica's fraud actions on: March 17, 2012, 08:19:53 AM

Okay, meelba, let me start off by saying

Bad Mr. Teacher. How is ur FPGA by BFL in Seoul ? wasnt it contraband ?

Aww. You're handicapped, aren't you?

Check this out.

I can do a search for my name and find 20 references to being a teacher, what I've bought in the past 10 months, and all of my businesses, even my home address! Not impressive faggot.

(Also, lol@thinking I'm a teacher still. That was sufficiently years ago now.)

Now go on about your idiotic non-lawsuit which is not happening anywhere other than your imagination.

EDIT: Back on topic:

Quote
After Zhou stole my 30k$ (trading against clients) I have succeded with my lawer on opening a criminal case against him.

Has your lawyer / teddy bear dressed in her sunday best at your imaginary tea party told you yet that in a lawsuit you need evidence? I haven't seen any yet.

Also, you're going to get a huge surprise if and when you actually do try to sue Bitcoinica. You'll find out soon enough.

I apologize for my rude and misogynistic comments upthread.  Was dealing with an issue with the ex and generally having a bad day.

Aww.   Undecided

4214  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Facebook Bitcoin App - 0.01 BTC for free for you on: March 17, 2012, 08:02:35 AM
How would you expect to notify a facebook member when they receive bitcoins from another facebook member through the app then? Make the member write a message themselves with a paste of the blockchain?  Roll Eyes

I see, you have not tried http://bitcoin-app.com yet Smiley Try it out, you'll get 0.01 BTC as a welcome present and so its free for you and you will see how we solved the user notification.

I saw already. You look-up a friend.
4215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Magazine on: March 17, 2012, 08:01:48 AM
Buttcoin Magazine will be published before this is.
I would gladly subscribe.
4216  Other / Meta / Re: Is there a way to unsubscribe to a thread ? on: March 17, 2012, 03:29:28 AM
I just wanted to remind everyone that an upgrade of SMF would fix this problem.
Tell that to theymos.

He knows. This is like the 40th thread on 2 years about this
4217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NaNa: A Bitcoin Spokesperson on: March 17, 2012, 03:15:01 AM
Obviously it's irrelevant if it's related to your private business. Thread title was "Our Bitcoin spokesperson". If people wouldn't want Bruce Wagner as the spokesperson..

Now that it's been clarified that's a private endeavor unrelated to the forums, our opinions, butcoin community, etc, there is nothing to say. ^^

They're trying their best to stop me.

Matthew you have some real issues, just had to make note of that.

I'm a Velociraptor. Although the guy dancing in my avatar does reflect my inner energy (although even I think he's insane when I look at him. I mean. just look at him. What is going through his mind when he dances like that. I mean, just wow. Wow.)

Are we merely the currency of choice of the criminal element, or is there hope for this being something useful to the legitimate world?
Oh you mean as opposed to the existing criminal element better known as the legitimate world?  Wink
