3343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The BitcoinCard : Vienna, Austria Workshop on: June 08, 2012, 10:47:06 AM
It would be a nice surprise to see bitcoincard in the next issue of Bitcoin Magazine  Shocked
Fat chance, apparently MNW is developing a competitor to it that he doesn't want anyone to know about, so he probably wouldn't allow such an article to be included.

My role at Bitcoin Magazine isn't to exclude legitimate stories of innovation in Bitcoin. It's to include legitimate news. When bitcoincard is proven to be more than just an over-hyped self-contradicting pipe dream website, I would be more than happy to write an entire piece on it for the print issue. The same goes for MintChip (which will probably end up as a colossal  failure but I hope -that- succeeds as well as it serves a purpose).

If the Ellet ever gets an article, it'll be because it's been proven, not because I have some kind of special interest in it. Your horridly inaccurate underestimation of our journalistic integrity is quite sickening. I want the same thing you want-- less bullshit and vaporware and more movement. Yet instead of bothering to build something or participate in a movement, you prefer to poke fun at me and all my personal advances in the Bitcoin economy. Classy.

Open your eyes to the facts: why don't these bitcoincard guys stick to what they say instead of completely contradicting themselves in their uberhype videos? "Doesn't rely on infrastructure"? What do you call requiring everyone in the world to hold a gateway repeater to the benefit of their neighbors? What do you call a USB dongle? Give me a break. I hope this is all clarified in this trip (that's why they're going afterall), but I'm not holding my breath because we've already found the solution and don't need to wait on anyone else.

As a community, we're all waiting to see what Erik and Charlie gather on their trip to Vienna, but I can't say I personally have much faith in any of this being more than fishing for investors for a product that markets itself as a privacy invasive DOA piece of hardware that requires a major rebuilding of a communications infrastructure just so you can be force fed ads.

3346  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 08, 2012, 07:17:48 AM
Once AML flags go off, they can't legally send money to these scammer clowns even if they wanted to.

If that was the case, they shouldn't have sworn the money was on its way for weeks/months.
And "stolen bitcoins" alone wouldn't trigger an AML investigation on the bank side. Something more would be necessary.

Anyways, it's pointless to discuss this here.
The best option is trying to stay away from centralized exchanges, if possible.

I believe CXE has already sent them funds before and were unable to continue to do so because they were cockblocked by their own solicitors who demanded more information due to reported stolen accounts etc. Not to mention these scummyfucks are more than likely associated with the Linode hack. Who knows. These clowns are trying to pass off CXE's lack of response to the issue as some kind of denial, but they are legally bound to deal with the customer only and the customer continues to bring their slop to the forums instead of go through normal legal channels.

Kind of a no brainer who's lying here.
3347  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 08, 2012, 07:05:35 AM
What I want to know is the Govt forcing CX to act like this, or are they doing it because they want to be the new bitcoin police/hold onto the cash cuz they do not have funds?

That's what I'd like to know too.

Once AML flags go off, they can't legally send money to these scammer clowns even if they wanted to.
3348  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: June 08, 2012, 05:48:41 AM
Excuse me, but why are we letting CoinExchanger and his sockpuppet account Maria continue to spam this thread with utter bullshit?

They don't have any claims at Bitcoinica. In fact, CoinExchanger has gone out of his way to make fun of Bitcoinica, calling it a scam and saying he's glad that Bitcoinica was hacked, even accepting coins from the Linode hack with a smile on his face.

CoinExchange and sockpuppet Maria: Please go to hell. Thanks.
3349  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 08, 2012, 05:45:51 AM
I have a few prongs of interest in this case.
1: I used to run a business in Australia governed by their financial services act (and am aware of the non-disclosure rules that exist in some of the Australian legislation).
2: I have legal proceedings against someone running though the legal system in Sydney for an unpaid debt.
3: I use CryptoExchange as my exchange of choice and haven't encountered problems like those mentioned above.
4: I have recently completed a review of how people resolve legal issues (it was a meta study looking at five different countries).

On #4, of the thousands of people surveyed, there was no mention of a successful resolution from trying to pressure someone via an internet forum.  Seeking help from police, citizens advice, Government departments, lawyers, friends/family, employers, self-help and others were covered.  But the approach adopted here - no mention.

And on #2 above, in retaining legal counsel I needed to provide ID, and there are sworn documents filed, but it is an expensive and drawn out process.

Thanks Patrick.

It appears to me that the OP is just trying to get attention and with the help of sock puppet #239402 Liberty Payout, basically trying to smear the exchange to put pressure on it to cave. The problem with that is that we all know Ken is honest and that CryptoXChange has a flawless reputation.

OP is a scammer who got burned by working with an exchange legally required to ask questions and like most scammers, underestimated the consistency of law abiding businesses. If he could provide the proper documents, he'd get his money, but I happen to know exactly why he won't and it's a doozy.

@OP: Why don't you bother showing the people here some proof of this supposed $100k you're missing, because that too is a lie.
3350  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 07, 2012, 08:16:57 PM
From what I know about these matters it would be extremely expensive for the OP to take this to court and may yield little benefit. If my assumptions about Crypto are correct they are a company that is heading into the gutter whether by lack of funding or some other source and they simply don't have the funding to pay. Yes the OP could take this to court but in the end Crypto may end up declaring bankruptcy to no avail of the OP or may end up paying but at a large monetary loss of the OP. Either way Crypto goes down and the OP loses a significant amount of money.

Crypto is not going down. OP needs to file his paperwork.
3351  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 07, 2012, 06:55:14 PM
I don't understand your question. If you have questions PM me. In the meanwhile I want this thread on topic. People have explaining to do. I want to see how an actual scam report plays out on this site. At this point I'm pissed the fuck off, because so many of you were so adamant about me when I didn't do anything, and now that there is an actual scammer you're all lollygagging which makes the fact that you tried to persecute me my first few days here on the basis of "protecting each other" bullshit.

haha you said I was on ignore.

Anyway, the reason no one is jumping up and down is because this is not the first thread WME has tried to make noise in. Go check the other thread. The solutions were all presented, the OP doesn't want to do what he has to do.
3352  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 07, 2012, 06:47:35 PM
Isn't it so very interesting that Liberty Payouts has such a passionate interest in this issue, when he has been "dealing" in similar amounts of similarly tainted and misappropriated funds? What's up Liberty, worried that one of your colleagues in crime might be getting slapped down while laundering stolen funds? Feel a little too close for comfort to see vigilante justice?

Funny how the scammers all stick up for each other.

Why are you so sure he is not the same guy?

Funny how the scammers stick up for each other? Funny how when there is actually a scam on this site you guys have nothing better to do then come after people like me for no reason at all. There is a mound of evidence against Crypto. Point of the matter is someone is out $100,000 which is a lot of money, and until someone starts explaining why this is, rather than making some baseless assumptions I'm going to assume Crypto is a scammer. Is that not what all you idiots were saying? That you have to "assume" until proven otherwise? Well that's what I'm doing. You guys also need to stop riding Crypto's dick so he can come in here like a man and explain himself.

Liberty Payout: One question--- how do you feel about anonymity and living in New York city?
3353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Coming next week-- the world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: June 07, 2012, 03:43:55 PM
Tony, thanks for the comment. I've heard this argument before even with other projects like Yifu's tablet but ultimately all that matters is what consumers want and what the product can do.

All obvious security benefits aside, I don't think the argument of consumers not wanting multiple devices has ever had any merit. One need look no further than iPod to see that. Mobile phones have the same mp3 playing functionality, but proper branding, marketing and a feature list made it a household device all across the world.

Let the free market decide!
3354  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Coming next week-- the world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: June 07, 2012, 01:47:52 PM
-I dont like the name, I guess its hard to settle on ellet when bitdex was so good. bitlet didnt seem so bad either.
-I dont like that it supports other currencies I only care about bitcoins as a digital currency and credit cards for USD but I understand why this is done, it is impressive if it can really support all of those especially dwolla and paypal.
-I dont like the reddit page that is a really stupid.

-good news? I love everything else about the device especially the 40hour battery life and all the ways to back up your wallet!

will it work off wifi?

I wish there were more informed and constructively critical consumers like yourself. This is how to give proper feedback on a product.

Your points are well received. I hesitate to list technical specifications at this point because although the feature set is highly unlikely to change, the hardware behind it may directly relative to manufacturing costs and difficulties, licensing, better solutions making themselves known, etc.
3355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Coming next week-- the world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: June 07, 2012, 01:20:08 PM
What is coming next week? Title makes it sound like the device is, but only reference to next week is the kickstarter?

And the name is fine, stop being nerds.

To clarify, the fund raising efforts don't stop even with 50,000 units in the hands of consumers. The Ellet will be marketed all over the world (not a cheap or trivial endeavor) so there must be continued fund raising efforts, even at a small level at universities and such.

Am I the only one who notices the irony here that it took 3 years for Bitcoin to crawl back to governments to handle their issues for them?

What does Bitcoin have to do with the problems between a company and its customers?

I'm playing Devi's advocate if you hadn't noticed. It doesn't matter what reality is, if lawsuits are made, this will be our new slogan to the unwashed masses:

"Bitcoin: When the going gets tough, the tough go back on their principles of decentralization."

3357  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: June 07, 2012, 12:10:17 PM
I think it is time to bring some sort of accountability to the bitcoin world. It is not even about the money at this point, and those familiar with our company know we have the deep pockets and the infrastructure to make it happen.

Am I the only one who notices the irony here that it took 3 years for Bitcoin to crawl back to governments to handle their issues for them?

We have a large sum in Bitcoinica as well, and as such, I am entitled to an opinion here. I believe however ridiculous this situation looks, these guys are here to stay. Give them time and stop barking. Call in the big dogs when they run away, not when they're working on it. As for all the people claiming they can't get ahold of anyone, I have yet to see anyone saying they've called someone. It's always emails, and emails to a server that has been hacked.  Roll Eyes
3358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will you be a bitcoincard re-transmitters? on: June 07, 2012, 12:03:27 PM
I'd argue that a decentralized mesh network with cheap solar power nodes that fit in your wallet is also inherently different from all other traditional networking systems.
True that. Unfortunately there are way too many inconsistencies in their marketing video itself and reality so we can only go on what they say.

  • No recharge required as it works on solar -- so how well does this device function at night? In Alaska during the 30 day long nights?
  • Doesn't rely on supporting infrastructure -- those are their words buddy, not mine. Talk to them about why they claim that. All I know is, ad-hoc doesn't work for the blockchain without a gateway, and people don't buy gateways without those gateways being useful for the owner as well, and a non-standard frequency used only for that device is not enough incentive for most people. Again, "Good luck with that".

The publicly available information is probably too sparse to judge them just yet. From what I can tell it definitely looks interesting and in a few days we'll know more. Calling them asinine is just as premature as pre-ordering a thousand cards IMHO.

True that. Let's wait to see what Charlie and Erik dig up.
3359  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buy Bitcoins With PayPal on: June 07, 2012, 11:50:51 AM
By using the site you agree that you will not lie about not receiving payments that have been made. You also agree you will not report any false claims against the site as long as the payment has been made. You also agree that you will not lie about sending the site a payment that we never received. You understand that your PayPal account may be at risk and you accept to the chances of your account getting possibly frozen and take full responsibility for your purchase. You also agree that even though we say you will get it in around 24 hours it may take longer than that. If you would like to contact the site with any problems or any questions click here.

Adorable.
I know nothing about any legal stuff, it's adorable that you, a grown man comes on here to bash a teenager about his website.

I wasn't commenting on your website, I was commenting on your naivety, which is quite adorable I'm sure everyone would agree.
3360  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will you be a bitcoincard re-transmitters? on: June 07, 2012, 11:34:20 AM
but the requirement for the entire world to build infrastructure around it instead of using what's already there is not only lazy, it's downright unimaginative and asinine.
I guess that's what many would say about Bitcoin vs. the traditional banking system. I'm sure Satoshi was just too lazy to open up a Paypal account Wink
Bitcoin is inherently different from the traditional banking system. A non-standard radio frequency is simply non-standard and bothersome. All I can say to them is
"good luck with that".

It's important that you know that in their hype-laden video that proclaim that bitcoincard will never need to rely on any kind of infrastructure, but then they ask you to buy a device to act as a repeater for their....infrastructure.  Roll Eyes
