I bet arlyn's only real life drawback is being a windows phone user, well, you know what they say, no1 is perfect...  Grin

+1. Yeah, he comes off as a modern day Renaissance man. I bet he smells like old spice.

Ha ha.
That's very nice of you.

I guess its down to personal preference. i absolutely hate the windows 8 app/tile section (sorry, can't remember the name) so can't imagine having it on my phone aswell.

Did you use it with a mouse and keyboard?
If so, try it on a tablet. All will be clear. :-)
My PC is a giant 18.4" tablet and Windows 8.1 is just awesome on it.

Quote
I have read reviews saying that windows is catching up with android, it just seems that no one is programing for it. (especially in crypto.. is there any coin that has a windows wallet? )

IMO it's been ahead for quite some time, except that some apps aren't on it, though most are.

Quote
but anyway, I edited my post just as you replied. check the edit. basically, cant you forward notifications to email or something?

Possibly... but that's pretty clunky. Even Skype beats that.
I guess I've construed Slack as primarily a messaging app - and for that notifications are pretty essential.
If it can legitimately support a forum-type scenario, then that's another story - and a pretty exciting one.

444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XC][XCurrency] Decentralised Trustless Privacy Platform / Encrypted XChat / Pos on: November 24, 2014, 10:15:06 PM
Thanks for the suggestions about Slack.

We've checked it out because Pizpie is very keen on it, and it looks very promising.

Current drawbacks: minimal Windows PC support (i.e. browser only) which makes notifications problematic, and zero Windows Phone support. Argh.

You need to ditch that windows phone for an Android, man.  Grin

What are the drawbacks with it being browser only? I'd be using it on windows too. The forum and here are browser only...

Being browser-only means that people don't get notified of new messages unless you're looking at the browser. It means I miss whole conversations.

Windows phone: quite easily the best platform in terms of:
- tightness of backend/cloud integration
- aesthetics (in comparison Android is a garish cacophony of clashing colours and skeuomorphism)
- smart features (Cortana, data sense, wifi sense, apps corner, live tiles, settings sync, offline maps, etc. etc. etc.)

What worries me is, if you are still here but not posting, I can only assume there is nothing interesting you can tell us. How can we give constructive criticism if there is nothing to criticize? (other than lack of information)

Good point, and I agree. I prefer to get everything mapped out and planned, and have asked the community to wait until we're ready - but I see your point and agree that there's merit in some form of regular update in the interim.

Quote
Those daily updates you used to do, simply saying "Dan is still coding on X, I am doing Y and Teka is doing Z" etc.

I'm not sure that a daily update is what I have in mind for the current phase we're in, but something regular enough - perhaps a weekly summary in addition to Dan's releases and news as and when things happen - would do well.

(This would be on xctalk, for the record.)

447  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XC][XCurrency] Decentralised Trustless Privacy Platform / Encrypted XChat / Pos on: November 24, 2014, 08:15:09 PM
Fair enough. It would be nice to see more interaction between xc community members and the team at xctalk. Right now there is small handful of members posting over there and not much interaction from the team.

I agree. That would be great. Generally if I post on a thread, it'll be quite a wait before someone responds.

Quote
Most of the community has no idea what is happening with xc and I haven't seen many answers over there yet. The answer to a stronger, more secure xcurrency network is users and it seems as though we have lost many xcers over the last month or so; including several whales and some of our most vocal enthusiasts. How can we change this?

Yes it's a great pity that the recent smear campaign has caused XC to lose supporters.

It's been very, very taxing for us, and has certainly had a (temporary) impact on the pace of development. It's also had an impact on how we're thinking of our market - i.e. that there's no better time to take the emphasis of Bitcointalk, and most probably to move emphasis onto B2B clients.

Also, all the noise has made it a lot harder for XC supporters to keep abreast of what we've been doing. For example, it's completely incongruous to me that a person like qawxsz actually thinks that the Blocknet is bad for XC.

From here on out I will begin checking xctalk on a daily basis. Let's port the conversation over there and let this thread die.

Its days are numbered. ;-)
448  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XC][XCurrency] Decentralised Trustless Privacy Platform / Encrypted XChat / Pos on: November 24, 2014, 05:59:09 PM

Synechist, this is your response to an XC supporter showing genuine concern?

No it was my second request in a row that we move XC-related discussion to a relevant thread. I think my tone was warranted.

Quote
The reason cryptico wrote there was because you only post in Block's thread these days and never on XC's thread.

I watch the XC thread continuously and post whenever I feel that something is of interest.

Sadly, since Bitcointalk is such a toxic environment, I rarely see opportunity to post here. I'd recommend xctalk.com

X1000! What the hell happened Arlyn?

Since the end of the ITO it's like you couldn't give a shit about XC at all and only rarely reply to blocknet posts. Before you seemed engaged, interested, updates were constant, you were friendly. Now we get nothing here, and vague, irritated sounding answers in the blocknet thread. Some big holders of XC have dumped in the last few weeks, don't any of you care anymore? It's fucking depressing checking this thread every day lately. Just FUD, frustration and NOTHING from the "team" that we have trusted since the start.

There are some great community members here, but I think Bitcointalk is an awful place and I want as little to do with it as possible at the moment.

Since Teka moderates this thread, I just watch apathetically while trolls and idiots consistently set its tone and topic.

For a post to stand a chance of getting me to engage positively, it'll most likely be constructive critical discussion about a given piece of XC's tech. That'll be awesome. Unfortunately this pretty much never seems to happen in this thread.

So I'm around.

But I'm not interested in allowing trolls etc. to take up my time. It's almost never worth it.

Arlyn not to be a dusche but lately you lack internal communication a lot. If you need one more person to organise that inside your team and keep the loop with the community, I have already suggested you to pick one up from the community after interviews for however would like to do it and is found worthy from the team.

Can we please discuss XC-related topics elsewhere?

This is the wrong thread.

We don't lack internal communication, and you're not really in a position to tell.

We've heard your suggestion and will consider it on independent grounds.

Xbridge working sample is supposed to be released this week correct? Or a code update anyway.

No.

"Hello all,

just wanted to provide an update, due to the amount of noise from the trolls creating FUD to lower the market price, its hard to communicate directly with real blocknet enthusiasts.

As I stated, we will have a test/prototype p2p daemon by the end of the month, if not sooner and with that a clear roadmap and other details regarding this project.

While things may seem to be in a lull currently, it is just part of the process of putting everything in order

I'm available via PM for any questions as its hard to keep up w/ all the noise from trolls.

Dan"

I was just looking for this quote myself. Week to go. (if not less)

Well if Dan said it, then I guess it'll be ready.

My response is due to the fact that we're still organising the Foundation, etc. and thus don't yet have a set of official dates/milestones or associated publicity plans. My apologies for forgetting Dan's post.

Regarding XC.. the NEW TORISO update was not released to the public we just discovered it in the download folder of the website. will there be official ann for that in the XC forum? is it safe to put coins there?

Dan did not feel a test release needed fanfare. --> "This is 64bit test only software, use at your own risk, user accepts no implied warranty..."

Can we talk about XC-related stuff on xctalk.com? This is the wrong thread.
452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Blocknet] The internet of blockchains | XBridge | true cross-chain P2P on: November 24, 2014, 02:53:09 PM
Can you reply to my PM please? Thank you.

Ok.

Apologies to everyone who's not heard back from me recently. I have a large and intimidating backlog of PMs, and it's not always possible for me to keep up with the rate at which messages come in.

Any news on the XC front this week? Or Blocknet actually for that matter. Perhaps a weekly update of some sort?

Yeah, you can expect XC-related news on xctalk.com. ;-)

As for the Blocknet, there's a lot of preparatory work going on behind the scenes (regarding the Foundation) and we hope to report back on a bunch of that asap.

Hello good folks. Can anyone tell me exactly how the BLOCK / NHZ asset exchange will work when Blocknet goes live?

Here's what I can discern: Currently, you can purchase NHZ coins, called HZ, on Poloniex for BTC. When you own HZ, you can purchase NHZ assets (via the in-wallet NHZ asset exchange), which represent shares in a company-like entity. In the future, Blocknet assets will be available as one of these NHZ assets.

So how will you be able to purchase the Blocknet NHZ assets with BLOCK? Is there actually a way to trade for NHZ assets using an altcoin on the NHZ asset exchange? Or will we get a set number of HZ for each BLOCK, which we can then use to buy the assets? Will people be able to buy these Blocknet shares if they don't own BLOCK, or will BLOCK tokens be the sole method for obtaining these shares?

I understand that this hasn't all been figured out, but I'm just trying to understand what approximately will be the buying power of a BLOCK.

Morning folks.

You will not purchase HZ assets with BLOCK, you will simply redeem your BLOCK for HZ assets.

The Horizon asset exchange is still under some development as far as I know, and so I'm unaware of the precise method by which owners of BLOCK will become owners of the Blocknet asset.

After BLOCK has been redeemed for Blocknet assets, the assets will be tradable on the asset exchange. This means that anyone will be able to buy Blocknet assets - not only owners of BLOCK. However, the supply of available Blocknet assets will be identical to the amount of BLOCK redeemed for it.

Apologies to those (excepting Unicornfarts, who is banned) whose comments got deleted. It's because you quoted Unicornfarts.

Please don't quote trolls. It just perpetuates their nonsense and gives it opportunity to aggravate more people.

What, no love for excite.com? You can't spell that search engine without xc! Cheesy

Metacrawler was my search engine of choice.

Do you mean, that eventually the purpose of Blocknet and other competing tech will be obsolete in terms of people just going back to dealing with ''single entity tech'' rather a network of applications?

Whoever proposes this hypothesis should consider the disanalogy between simply buying fund x over fund y, versus downloading a single Blocknet-enabled wallet over downloading several. There's a vast difference in usability ("liquidity") there.

458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Blocknet] The internet of blockchains | XBridge | true cross-chain P2P on: November 19, 2014, 02:17:15 PM
Jake you're right. The Blocknet's tech will not be alone in the marketplace.

We'll be competing with whoever else tries to do what we're doing.

When will be the foundation formalized? Any update?Huh

As soon as possible.
It's been the main focus of late, as it's not easy to engage all the different coins' teams and get us all to discuss matters.
460  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Blocknet] The internet of blockchains | XBridge | true cross-chain P2P on: November 19, 2014, 12:37:12 PM
I am not getting any wiser here...
What is the problem and how do you solve it?

The problem:
"Cryptocurrency projects share a common dream. It is of a future free of central control and the abuses of liberty it engenders... But cryptocurrencies today function as isolated islands, with separate blockchains, nodes and users. As such, our innovations have limited usage, and one project’s advances cannot generate revenue in other networks. Further, this isolation saps resources if multiple projects develop solutions already created by others. While each project on its own is valuable, our combined technology and development skill is priceless."

The solution: an inter-blockchain application platform enabling each coin's features to function as services on every coin's apps.
