Measurable facts are science dogma, even though they don't fit the dogma of formal religion. Why? Because they are things that can't be changed. Do a science experiment exactly the same way every time, and you get exactly the same results every time. Science dogma is even stronger than religious dogma.

There are many science theories that are popular, but haven't been proven one way or another, yet remain theories. So, it is the decision of scientists whether or not they will drop a theory from being such.

Cool

No you don't necessarily get the same result every time. Schrodinger's cat can testify to this. Also, it is true that many science theories haven't been proven one way or the other. Although most theories have substantial evidence to back them up. (For instance, the predictions given by the Theory of General Relativity keep testing out as true.)  That is why they are called "theories."

All scientific theories have susbtantial evidence behind them, thats why they are scientific theories. Badecker thinks that only "facts" matter but in science and in anything a 100% fact simply does not exist.

We have enough resources for everyone its just that greedy people at the top like to hoard.  UBI is a natural progression towards an advanced society.  Remember if wealth inequality gets too far out of hand the wealthy will be exposed to the very real threat of revolution.  Poor people would rather flip the game board over and start again making all those dollars worthless.

I don't know, we have resources for everyone but is everyone willing to work just as hard? Are you willing to work in construction? Are you willing to wipe shit? Why should someone that is not willing to work at all get a basic income at all? It's not too clear to me.

You know why it wont work? You know why communism doesn't work? Because of humans, humans are not good, we are selfish and we fuck up often. Those systems would work in theory if everyone was a decent person but in practice it is way different.
444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I went to a bitcoin meetup Many people there had bitcoin, no-one actually use it on: June 25, 2019, 05:51:34 PM
That's what I have been saying for a long time, no one uses bitcoin as a day-to-day currency and it's understandable. You don't really gain anything from it, you are paying fees, it's slow and it's accepted only in a few places. The volatility is also huge right now you would have to check literally every minute to see how much bitcoin you need to pay.
445  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How to not care what the society thinks? on: June 25, 2019, 05:47:11 PM
To some extent you should care though. It depends what you mean when you say society. Are you referring to social media influencers? Then sure, fuck them, however I'm sure you care what your parents think, your friends think and your idols think, those are also part of society, aren't they?
446  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: June 25, 2019, 05:44:22 PM
The earth is an advanced engineered structure covered by a steel dome and the temperature is controlled by not man. The level of clown world insanity here is really over the top.

People ask why would clowns lie about the shape of the earth, well carbon taxes are one of million fucking reasons.

There are like thousands of different ways they could have used to make money, you think it's more logical to believe they made this huge conspiracy about the shape of the earth and the universe to make some money? Madoff was able to scam victims for a total of $65 Billion and he didn't need to lie about the shape of the earth.

If you're gonna execute them, get it over with. Or is there some kind of retribution that is gained from prolonging it?

Make sure they are guilty... really deserving of the death penalty. Then get it over with. Guillotine is the fastest, sure way.

Cool

It's not surprising that someone who wants other people to be tortured forever (hell) is in favor of the death penalty. Obviously we wont do it with a Guillotine, badecker. There are better ways.

It's not surprising that someone who loves criminality wants to go easy on criminals so they are encouraged to continue to be criminals.

What? You want to stick them in a room underground and set off a baby nuke down there? It would be a little faster than the guillotine.

Cool

But I just said im in favor of the death penalty, you are not making much sense lately. As a christian you shouldnt want to kill anyone. As far as I know god said everyone can repent, no? You in fact said it too that if a killer truly repents he would go to heaven.

If you want to prove a pressurized atmosphere can be maintained within a hard vacuum environment without a container be my guest.

Rather simple, Gravity but then again you don't believe in gravity  Cheesy

So if I have a 1L beaker that contains 1L of air at standard temperature and pressure, and I place it in a vacuum chamber with a hard vacuum, the force of gravity will keep the air from rising up and escaping the beaker?

Gravity has been tested for decades and it works, every single time, all the predictions done on gravity are accurate. The black hole that was recently "photographed" was also predicted to look that way.
449  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do you think Trump changed his mind over the strike on Iran? on: June 25, 2019, 08:04:45 AM
I think that his many war-hawk neocon advisors basically ordered the airstrike for him, but he realized that it was insane and called it back. From reporting about the inside of the Administration, I get the sense that everyone is just doing whatever they want, often ignoring what Trump says, and Trump himself is a pretty weak force on most issues. I'm glad that he pushed back on this one, but I still see the machine of war moving constantly in the direction of Iran.

I honestly think Trump does not want any kind of war with anyone. He tried to be friends with kim jong, with putin, stopped the iran thing too.

https://deadstate.org/biblical-flat-earth-society-founder-is-charged-with-56-counts-of-child-porn/

Fundamentalist Christian and self-proclaimed founder of the “Biblical Flat Earth Society,” Phillip Stephen Stallings, was arrested this week and charged with 56 counts of child sexual exploitation, as reported by local news station WTDV.

The 40-year-old Durham, North Carolina resident is facing dozens of charges for sexually exploiting minors for allegedly downloading media that involved minors engaged in sexual situations and sharing this illegal media on social platforms.

He was arrested on Wednesday morning at his home by Durham County deputies as a part of a U.S. Department of Homeland Security investigation, according to WRAL.com.

“It’s part of an investigation across the nation right now for possession of child pornography and creation of child pornography,” said Durham County Assistant District Attorney Kendra Montgomery-Blinn during a short court hearing on Thursday morning. “They had information that Mr. Stallings was sharing his materials on a social media platform.”

Stallings faces 28 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and 28 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor after being caught with child pornography. He has also been served with a warrant related to both cyberstalking and financial card theft.

Not a surprise really, these people and religious extremists are the same scum. They are able to believe in stupid shit easily, they probably think its totally fine or even good to have sex with children, they are all degenerates and this not even an isolated case, priests abuse children all the time, its not a coincidence.
I also wonder where is god when all that happens, perhaps busy taking care of the projectors of the sun and the moon.

452  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Science and Religion? on: June 24, 2019, 05:54:19 PM
Science is very limited. It is divided into two basic parts:
1. The parts that are factual, like electrolysis of H2O;
2. The parts that are unknown (science theory), like Big Bang or evolution.

Religion covers the parts that science hasn't gotten to, yet.

If science fact didn't work, it would have been gone long ago.

If religion didn't work, it would have been gone long ago.

Believing in science that isn't known to be fact is like making it into a religion. After all, people feel that religion is true, but they can't easily put their fingers on the facts that might make it true. Same with science theory. No facts that make science theory true, or it would be science fact. So, belief in science theory is religion or like religion.

The reason science theory works is that it is a religion to its believers.

Cool

ROFL, here is the problem badecker, science is very limited, religion (which is nothing, just a book) is far more limited. Does religion have any other method that it's better than the scientific method to find out when something is true or not?
453  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Opinions on death penalty? on: June 24, 2019, 03:21:54 PM
I always used to be against death penalty.

My political leanings are mostly towards left (except for abortion where I belong to extreme right and a extreme pro-life).

But quite recently, I have started to agree on death penalty.

Why?
Not because I believe that death penalty is good punishment to stop criminals.

Because, life in prison is a much much much harsher than the death penalty.

Spending whole life behind bars like a caged animal is so so worse.

Many of my peers are against death penalty because they find death penalty harsh. (Which I still do). But they completely ignore how life in prison is much harsher.

Hence, if I be given the choice between death penalty or life behind bars, I'll choose death penalty.

But, will I choose death penalty if there's other alternative? No.

I think even the most extreme crimes deserves no more than 20 years in prison.

If the person is socio/psychopath and has no remorse, then, keep him under supervision after a long sentence.

But it's inhuman to lock away people for eternity (till they die).

Opinions ?

No death penalty.

Some prisons maybe hell and some maybe better, by giving a chance to get an education, develop a skill, and even explore the arts.

And, yes! What what about innocent people that were convicted?

There is always a chance for a human being to grow and get better as long as they are alive.

Why waste time with someone who murdered 10 people just because maybe after 20 years he might become "better"? We dont need that, use the money to educate children not to waste it on a dude who murders people.
I guess you would get more than 20 years for that crime. Anyway, I partly agree with your point about the cost of living for one prisoner which certainly adds up to a big amount in 20 years. But I have a solution for this. The cost of security, food etc. should be deducted from prisoner's life savings, his property should be sold. If/when this would not be enough, the prisoner should work at the prison. This is already functioning in many prisons - prisoners work in factories or as farmers. But they get very small salary, more like pocket money. Instead, they should work to pay for their costs and if they earned more, this would be their money. If they refused to work, they would get significantly lower comfort level (very small room, no outdoor time...) and cheaper food.

Yep I dont know the exact logistics behind it but yes making them work would be useful too. Really anything but letting them just live there for 30 years. Some prisons are tough but others arent and the comfort sometimes is higher than outside.
454  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Science and Religion? on: June 24, 2019, 03:18:26 PM

Show me one historical evidence (outside of religious texts) that Moses or Jesus existed.

Show me one place in the Bible that says that they didn't exist.     Cool

You are obviously trolling because you know there is 0 evidence for anything in the bible outside the bible. Science theory is the closest to facts, a book it's not. How do you know for sure the bible wasn't written by someone else?
455  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Who do you think will win the 2020 election? on: June 24, 2019, 09:49:30 AM
Of course, anything could still happen, but its encouraging for the Dems that all of their top candidates are shown as beating Trump in a Fox News poll.

IIRC Fox News also showed Hillary beating Trump through much of the election, so make of it what you will. The only poll that was consistently correct in forecasting the election results was one done by USC and the L.A. Times, interestingly.

Yeah might as well forget about polls. As you said, last time most of them were showing hillary winning by a lot. I saw even a 90% win ratio for hillary on live tv lol. I mean if they were to ask me on the street, which candidate am i going to vote for, i will probably just tell them to fuck off.

Why do I care that a few idiots changed their mind and started believing in creationism? The evidence against a young earth is INSANELY HUGE. https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Evidence_against_a_recent_creation There are literally dozens of different methods that all point to an earth far older than 10000 years old, it's not even close lol.

All the scientific methods that show the age of the earth are based on things that we do not know. Of course, this makes them to be religious methods rather than science methods. Certainly there is some knowledge, but much of the understanding is based on things we don't know for sure... or really, even close.

All that this proves is that scientific people who believe science things that are not known is, these people have made science their religion.

So we see that people are religious beings at heart, and anything can be their religion... even science.

Cool

And what do we know for sure? You keep talking about knowing for sure and facts but you still dont understand that there is no such thing. Science does not operate that way. There are no 100% facts in anything. Science theory is the closest we can get to facts

USA has death penalty and has high % of crimes there. I dont think Death Penalty is a good action to reduce crime but I agree with Death Penalty in some crimes, like multi murderer, etc

It does not really reduce crime but it does save people money, if we have to keep someone in jail for 50 years, we have to pay for everything, food, clothes, etc. If we just execute him, all that money is saved.
459  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Did we actually really land on moon? on: June 24, 2019, 05:37:45 AM
....How accurate are you when you eyeball the distance across your room in the funny farm? If you are anywhere close to the sun, you should have your room down to the thousandth of an inch.

The famous aviator Wiley Post, 1920ish, had lost one eye when young. He trained to estimate distances very accurately with one eye. Hence, with no triangulation. He would often win wagers in bars this way. It enabled him to pass the Airman's exam, which required good vision.

So I'll let that issue pass.

However, you are correct in that NotBat has not shown the total of the triangulation issue. There are several issues.

(A) How much does the Moon change in diameter, from the Supermoon to the minima, and why?

What does it mean, if an object in the sky periodically, and predictably, changes in diameter?

(B) From where might we stand, say in a couple of places, to measure the Sun and Moon over the course of a year?

This would be to find their distance from the Earth.

(C) We commonly measure the height of mountains on the Moon, and the depth of craters, using a form of simple triangulation. Measuring the spreading of the shadows as the Moon moves to a crescent.

Notbat, care to comment?

(D) Given that the terminator line moves precisely across the lunar surface over the course of a lunar day (27+ Earth days) and we measure heights on the Moon of objects as they approach that terminator, geometrically this is only possible if the Moon is a sphere like object.

NotBat claims the Moon is just a bright light?

(E) A lunar eclipse is when the Earth occludes the Sun, as viewed from the Moon. We will consider the trig involved in this, along with a quite interesting topic, after NotBat answers the above questions and issues. This topic is how we can predict lunar eclipses.

Any scientific theory is affirmed if it predicts correctly. We have a model of elliptical orbiting masses in space, which we can use to accurately predict many things. All on the basis of a synergistic development of math, and orbital mechanics, over three thousand years. But you reject all of that.

No problem. We can step through the fundamentals.

He says the moon is a projection just like the sun. I dont really understand what he means with that. He never explains where is the projector or how it projects such a huge light and why does it work the way it works, to confuse us?
460  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why does your Country suck? on: June 23, 2019, 07:58:12 PM
The title needs correction.
It's not YOUR country which sucks, they ALL do.

The only solution is to stop acting like a citizen, to stop paying taxes, and to travel all the time, being a tourist wherever you are. Enjoy life!

Username checks out lol. I don't think all countries suck, I mean traveling all the time still means you are spending time in a country. In a first world country, today, you have tremendous opportunities to be whatever you want to. Even if you are from a poor family, you still have a lot of opportunity to do something with your life.
