Aptos Foundation.

462  Bitcoin / Legal / UK regulator issued 450 alerts for illegal crypto ads in 2023 on: February 16, 2024, 03:50:27 PM
https://cointelegraph.com/news/uk-illegal-crypto-ads-regulator-fca
"The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) — an independent financial regulatory body in the United Kingdom — has published a report detailing its actions against financial promotions, including its findings and actions against crypto-related advertisements.

On Feb. 14, the FCA reported that it found “significant levels of non-compliance” on crypto promotion rules that came into effect on Oct. 8, 2023. According to the regulator, i reviewed both registered and unregistered crypto firms and identified common issues.

This includes the use of generic risk summaries without any amendments for product-specific risks, such as stablecoins or asset-backed coins, and using the regulated status in a promotional manner. Furthermore, the FCA also said that firms are making claims about the safety, security and ease of use of crypto services without supporting evidence or highlighting risks."

Let the British correct me, but I believe that their regulators are not coping with their tasks. Blocking information on websites and social networks is almost impossible if you choose the North Korea route Smiley
463  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Argentina to Pressure Citizens on Declaring Their Crypto on: February 16, 2024, 03:44:51 PM
https://www.bitdegree.org/crypto/news/argentina-to-pressure-citizens-on-declaring-their-crypto
"As per the terms of the bill, citizens will be encouraged to declare their assets, financial assets like stocks and crypto assets. Declarations will be entirely voluntary. However, the bill also suggests that in case of a failure to declare assets and tokens may result in an investigation by the Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP), the nation’s tax body.

In the case of crypto assets, citizens will be asked to submit an affidavit which is a voluntary statement that can be used as evidence as it is made under oath by the law.

Citizens who declare their assets and tokens on the voluntary forms would be subject to tax at a rate of 2.5% unless they aren’t high earners. According to the bill, individuals who have under $50,000 worth of assets will be charged at a lower initial rate of 1.5%. "

If I lived in Argentina, I would keep my crypto assets secret. Especially now, with president Milei ruining the economy.

People who live in dictatorships and bad countries need to keep their cryptocurrency assets as secret as possible and obviously not tell their government. Telling the government how much money/profits you have in crypto (even though you can make it impossible for them to find out as long as you do not voluntarily give them that information) is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

You might as well tell them your seed phrase, that way they can skip the step where they extort it out of you.

But I guess some people are too scared for that.

I mean, if you agree with what your government is doing and you wish to pay taxes in order to improve your country, go ahead. But if you live in a dictatorship that is ruining your economy and your country with corruption, is it not best to keep your real money (Bitcoin) a secret?
I would not declare my cryptocurrencies in any country in the world. If I am a tourist or have decided to stay in this country for several years, then this makes no sense, but if, for example, I want to live in the country, then I can open a legal company and legalize cryptocurrencies by paying taxes.
464  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC vs Binance on: February 16, 2024, 03:37:17 PM
Okay, I will try to prove to you that the fact of collateral is not important.

But you were the one who claimed that the the collateral was the one who would guarantee that CZ would have returned even with a conviction pending. How come that right now you want to prove the opposite?

I am sure that CZ came to the US to be tried and agreed to pay a huge fine because he entered into an agreement with the US government.
If an agreement has been concluded, then the trial will be formal. You will agree that CZ would not have come to the USA without agreements.

Yeah, he agreed to let the US  government do as it please with him!
Yu know what the deal of pleading guilty means? That he has no choice when the ruling is served, the only way to appeal would be for him to be granted a new trial under the not guilty defense, meaning a far longer conviction. So he basically came to the country, signed up for a deal that will remove his appeal no matter what the sentence is and gave up almost eveything just, so to not be hunted down and still be brought in front of a judge.
But everything is #safu!
I want to say that the fact that CZ was refused to be released from the country on a huge bail and the trial was postponed until the end of April only means that CZ’s deal with the US government has fallen through.
Of course, under the terms of the deal, CZ must plead guilty to all charges. The second main condition of the deal is to provide complete and truthful information to the US government.
I believe that new circumstances have emerged in this case that play against CZ. Therefore, the US authorities gave him time to think before the Bitcoin halving Smiley
And if he doesn’t agree to the deal, the jury will probably give him more than one life sentence.
465  Local / Альтернативные криптовалюты / Re: Polkadot - аукционы парачейнов on: February 16, 2024, 03:20:37 PM

Grin

I will update your price chart.
Game projects can give a good profit if they don’t die.
But when competitors appear and the influx of new players ends, the price of the token begins to fall sharply.
And it even seems to me that it is now more profitable for the team to do a new project than to try to develop an old project.
467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: APTOS FOR BEGINNERS on: February 15, 2024, 08:14:53 AM
APTOS is one of the new altcoins that I am investing in for the long term. Yes, I said APTOS is a new altcoin because compared to most other big altcoins, APTOS is relatively new. There are several things that made me interested in APTOS, including because APTOS is L1 which has sophisticated technology and has many large investors which has resulted in this project having very large funding raised.
I don't like the tokenomics of the Aptos cosystem

https://aptos.dev/

New coins are released every month and this can affect the price in a negative way, although the project has not yet had large price pumps. I don't know what the funds will do. Data on the price of tokegn for funds is closed, but the funds are now making good profits.
468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is tor wallet is the next metamask? on: February 15, 2024, 07:57:52 AM
I heard about TorWallet in 2023, but then there was less news.
https://twitter.com/torwalletapp

If you are looking for a wallet for Ethereum, then look at the information on the official website, where you can download verified wallets
https://ethereum.org/wallets/find-wallet
I would do the same steps when looking for wallets for other coins.
469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Starknet airdrop February 20 on: February 15, 2024, 07:44:03 AM
My wallets were also not included in the airdrop due to the $100 limit. But the projects are trying to weed out as many wallets as possible, so they come up with new conditions. I have been using this ecosystem for a long time and have a lot of activities and interactions with different smart contracts there, but this time I had no luck.

Indonesia Picks Crypto-Friendly Team in Presidential Election
"During the presidential campaign, vice-presidential candidate Gibran discussed crypto and blockchain as a means to expand job opportunities for the country’s younger generation.
Former defense minister Prabowo Subianto and his pro-crypto running mate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, have seemingly come out on top as the country’s next president and vice president."

Aptos implements passwordless passkey authentication for transactions
"Aptos Labs has introduced a passwordless passkey authentication method for signing transactions on its Layer 1 blockchain network.
Passkeys are more user-friendly and mirror the ease of use found in services like Apple Pay or Google Pay, said Aptos CTO Avery Ching."

An interesting solution for gaining access to your wallet via Touch ID or Face ID if you have lost your password.
473  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Upcoming altcoins on: February 14, 2024, 11:40:36 AM
If you invest in Altcoins, then more than half of the investment should be in serious ecosystem projects such as Cosmos, Polkadot and others. Regulation on the crypto market has not yet been completed, and many projects may die, and new ones will quickly close. If a new project did a token sale, I would refrain from investing.
474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dogecoin is exhibiting a positive outlook following a series of stable sessions on: February 14, 2024, 11:35:53 AM
Dogecoin is a very good decentralized coin with low payment fees, but its price is heavily manipulated by Elon Musk. I don’t look at this coin because there are many other coins on the market with clearer tokenomics and prospects. I always try to do the analysis myself.

"Steven Nerayoff, a former advisor to Ethereum, has launched serious allegations against Gary Gensler, the Chair of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), accusing him of undisclosed involvement with ETH amidst the anticipation of an Ethereum Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF). Via a statement on X, Nerayoff’s remarks have reignited concerns around “ETH Gate,” suggesting Gensler’s actions reflect a deeper engagement with Ethereum and its regulatory status than openly acknowledged."

https://cryptonews.com/news/argentina-tops-latin-america-in-stablecoin-purchases-and-holdings-report.htm
"Throughout the second half of 2022 and all of 2023, there has been a notable embrace of cryptocurrencies in the region, reflecting an increasing acceptance among the local population, despite market volatility and local economic difficulties. Argentina stands out as the only country in the region where the acquisition of digital dollars surpasses that of other cryptocurrencies by nearly five times.

The report reveals that amidst economic turmoil, 60% of Argentine crypto purchases on Bitso were allocated to dollar-based stablecoins such as USDT and USDC, with just 13% of purchases dedicated to Bitcoin. This contrasts with Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico, where stablecoin purchases ranged between 31% and 40% of total crypto acquisitions.

Notably, these stablecoins emerged as some of the “fastest-growing” cryptocurrencies in the area. Bitso’s analysis reveals that approximately 26% of the average portfolio of users in Argentina comprises stablecoins, driven primarily by the country’s economic environment. Bitso attributes the significant demand for stablecoins in Argentina to the prevailing political and economic context, where citizens seek alternatives to combat inflation and currency devaluation."

478  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New SEC Requirement for DEX Liquidity Providers on: February 14, 2024, 11:14:08 AM
Any CEX says in the user agreement that they can require KYC and a source of funding from the client and much more. If you have 1-2 thousand dollars there, then there will be no questions until this amount exceeds 10,000 or more.
My friends lost money on such exchanges. They had several thousand and traded for several years. After transferring 20-40 thousand dollars to the exchange, their funds were blocked.
That's one of the main inherent deficiencies of CEXes and a major reason for the existence of DEXes. On the other hand DEXes are much slower and have higher fees per one trade. While they are fine for converting one crypto to another or maybe to/from fiat, they are not suitable for trading algorithms that require latency < 10ms or even < 100ms. So I think that the main problem with DEXes is not low liquidity, I used them in a couple of cases and they are fine as long as you are not in a hurry, but they are just too slow and expensive for many trading algorithms.

Anyone who manages to create an exchange that combines the benefits of DEXes and CEXes will make a killing. It could be a low-latency DEX or maybe a no-KYC CEX with some kind of really smart contract that guarantees the user that he would be able to withdraw his funds thus guaranteeing that the CEX won't be able to block the funds and require a KYC. Or maybe some other kind of system that provides the benefits of both kinds of exchanges.

On the second point, I meant that people talk a lot. Even the most famous hackers were let down by their language and lifestyle.
Yeah, not being able to keep one's mouth shut is the main cause of failure in 95% of cases :-)
But joking aside, most people, including those so called "hackers" don't have a deep understanding of computer security and security in general. So they are rather easy to catch and the main reason some of them are able to get away with their petty crimes is that the governments are busy chasing the big fish and the small ones are not paid attention to. Anything related to the banks' electronic money and the governments' CBDCs is trivially traceable by the government. If we add the fact that transactions of most popular cryptocurrencies are publicly visible and we can be sure that for most people crypto does not add any privacy.
I completely agree with you that DEXs are inconvenient for traders in many ways, but there are always greater risks for people who cannot officially verify their income.
A friend of mine has over a million dollars on the exchanges, and his lawyer contacts the VIP manager of the exchange every quarter and provides the exchange with tax returns and all the necessary documents, and even despite this, the trader’s account is blocked several days in a year.
479  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC vs Binance on: February 14, 2024, 11:06:44 AM
Why?

Because simple logic! He has no family, he has no assets in the US , he is not a citizens and all he put down as a guarantee was equity in a foreign company not based in the US but still under his total control. Do you think any country would have let him go?

Quote
did not even let him out to see a sick relative

Yeah right, this thing wouldn't be believed even on this forum but by a judge, we had this thing in our country before we joined the EU, every time an official was arrested for fraud he suddenly got ill, we even nicknamed the anti corruption department the cancer screeners as they were finding more cases in their arrest that a doctor in a hospital.
How much are you willing to bet that CZ "relative" has miraculously got better and got out hospital the moment poor CZ couldn't get there?

Okay, I will try to prove to you that the fact of collateral is not important. I am sure that CZ came to the US to be tried and agreed to pay a huge fine because he entered into an agreement with the US government.
If an agreement has been concluded, then the trial will be formal. You will agree that CZ would not have come to the USA without agreements.

I think that new circumstances have appeared in the case, and now CZ is under the influence of the US judicial system.
480  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Do Kwon arrested on: February 14, 2024, 10:58:48 AM
When you see how various criminals pass in front of the US judiciary, you are not surprised that Do Kwon obviously wants to avoid being extradited to South Korea at all costs.
In my assumption, the U.S tends to not handle financial crime cases the way it is handled in some Asian countries. For the United States they look for the best possible scenario, so being able to get Intel on many others involved in the crime or similar ones at the expense of a lighter sentence for the convicted criminal is an easy deal.

Some other countries see the prosecutions as a deterrent to others and want to make a public show of the punishments, which should be as stringent as possible.
The US budget makes a lot of money by taking away billions of dollars from such scammers. And the procedure for returning money to victims will be very long and many investors will not have enough funds and opportunities to qualify for payments.
But the criminal's agreement with the United States is valid only if he returns all the funds to the government. If the violation is discovered even after serving the sentence, the offender will receive a life sentence or more.
And this does not mean that after the trial in the United States, Korea will not stop hunting for Do Kwon.
