461  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Never gamble in front of your kids. on: December 30, 2023, 07:11:16 PM
<...>
Those who say it is better to hide and not to gamble in front - go ahead. I just wonder what else you want to overprotect your kid from. What else from your mind the kid gonna get addicted from watching. With such too much care and cautious over everything, with some many “if/would/could” you are not doing much good to a kid. I just want to see your face, when you question yourself why your kid is already 30yo, still lives with you, have no intention to getting marries and dont want to work.

You make a fair point.  It's only natural as parents that we want to protect our kids from getting hurt or running into trouble.  But keeping them wrapped in bubble wrap their whole childhood won't do them any favors later on.  Kids gotta explore things for themselves and even mess up some times.  That's how they gain moxie and learn to stand on their own two feet when theyre grown and  i say let them skin their knees and get some calluses once in awhile.  It'll serve them well down the road.  But hey, it ain't easy watching your little ones take tumbles.  We just gotta find the right balance, I suppose.
462  Economy / Gambling / Re: Trustdice: Terrible sportsbook, 5x! wager to withdraw on: December 30, 2023, 06:56:43 PM
X5 wagering requirement? That's messed up in so many ways. There are so many popular options out there that need you to just wager X1 of your deposit in order to withdraw which is way more practical and realistic.

I never was interested in this site to be honest and I will advise others to avoid it until they get rid of that ridiculous wagering requirement.

Absolutely. That is one crazy high wagering requirement.  Five times the deposit? Come on now and  you'd think the casino wants to make darn near impossible to actually cash out any winnings.

Most places I've played only ask you to play through the deposit once or twice before letting you withdraw.  That seems plenty fair to me.  But this five times stuff is just bananas.  They clearly don't intend for folks to walk away with money in their pockets.  OP, Id urge you to take your business elsewhere, where you'll get a nicer deal upfront without all these sneaky strings attached.
463  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Never gamble in front of your kids. on: December 30, 2023, 05:24:40 PM

I get what you're saying - not every kid is going to do everything their parents do.  Kids get older and figure out what they're into, and it's not always the same stuff as their folks.

But if little Joey sees Mom or Dad spending all weekend at the casino or racetrack every week, he might start thinking gambling is no big deal.  And that could lead to him developing some unhealthy gambling habits of his own down the line, even if he doesnt get full-on addicted.

Now sure there are probably some decent things kids can pick up from parents who gamble too - learning about risks or setting limits with money and stuff.

Bottom line though, the best way for parents to keep their children from ending up with bad gambling behaviors is to be straight with them about what gambling is and why it matters to do it responsibly.
464  Other / Meta / Re: New Year = New Password (...and new you, too!) on: December 30, 2023, 02:42:35 PM
I've been thinking for a while now that it's probably time to change my password.  Then, when I logged back in I see 2FA is now a thing so I thought I'd make the suggestion that others consider changing their passwords.

No, changing your password regularly is not a recommended practice by many security experts.  In fact, it can make things less secure.  People who change passwords a lot sometimes use simpler ones or reuse passwords across sites and  both bad ideas.  Best to use strong passwords.  And only change when there's a reason, like a breach somewhere else you used the same password.  No reason to regularly change just because.

Besides, how many times do you have your bank or email account (or work for that matter) "suggesting" you change your password?  Quite often I would imagine.

Actually, I've never received an email from my email provider or bank advising me to change my password. Unless, of course, it was a preventative measure implemented following a security breach.

I found this on the Google Help pages:
Quote
Asked to change your Google Account password
If there’s suspicious activity in your Google Account or we detect that your password has been stolen, we may ask you to change your password. By changing your password, you help make sure that only you can use your account.

465  Other / Meta / Re: Opinion on Spelling Check on: December 30, 2023, 02:16:41 PM
I know this isn't exactly microsoft word but I am curious to know if you think that the Bitcoin Talk Forum is probably more real and authentic because of the lack of a spell check?
<...>

I don't believe the lack of spellcheck makes this forum more "real" or authentic.  Actually, I've seen many other forums I know don't use spellcheck either.  This probably owes to how spellcheck can be kind of a pain to configure and keep up, and it could also slow the forum.

Basically, what makes a forum real or genuine boils down to the value of the conversations occurring there.  And for spellchecking better to put it on the user side, like in web browsers.
466  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The frustrations in loosing a huge bet when your winning was so assured. on: December 30, 2023, 12:41:41 PM
<...>
I come to understand that it is more worrisome when the sure winning opportunities was so huge and got lost lately closed to the end time of the game.

I know the feeling all too well.  You get your hopes up, thinking this is it - the big payout you've been waiting for.  The anticipation builds as you edge closer and closer.  Then bam! No dice!  Talk about a major letdown.  I've had plenty of close calls myself over the years.  And youre right, it really takes the wind out of your sails.  One minute youre riding high on the thrill of almost winning it big.  The next, you've crashed back down to earth with nothing to show for it.

It's the risk we take when we play games of chance.  The emotional rollercoaster is part of the package.  As much as we revel in the exhilaration we have to be prepared for the accompanying plunges too.  The trick is learning how to roll with the punches when luck doesn't go your way.  Easier said than done sometimes, I know.  But, chin up! Theres always next time.
467  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Rich, average or poor. Who loses more? on: December 30, 2023, 12:29:14 PM
So why are people contacting themselves. They will say the house would win because of house edge. Now they are also saying the rich would win than the poor. Is it not the others way around that the more the rich spend on gambling, the more the money the rich will eventually lose.

We all have our own perspectives on things.  When someone makes a statement like the rich win more at gambling while the poor lose more, it's important to recognize that's simply their personal opinion.  Without any evidence or data to back up such a claim, we can't assume it to be an objective fact and

In a discussion like this where people are sharing thoughts without citation, were dealing entirely with subjective viewpoints.  Even if sources were included there's still room for error and misinterpretation.  At the end of the day, these are just individual opinions not necessarily grounded in hard facts.
468  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BItcoin Rank - Check Your Bitcoin Rank ! on: December 30, 2023, 12:14:58 PM
Ever wondered where you stand in the world of Bitcoin? This app, drawing inspiration from the Bitcoin Rich List, gives you the scoop on your Bitcoin address and its global rank. Plus, it throws in a bunch of other cool stats about your Bitcoin wallet to satisfy your curiosity!

That's an interesting app/site. Let's just hope it wasn't set up as a honeypot by some government agency.  Wink
However, it's probably better for everyone to use the site only through a VPN or Tor network, just in case.
469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Newbie alert - how to get on the bandwagon? on: December 30, 2023, 09:58:30 AM
<...>

I hear you.  This crypto stuff can feel real overwhelming sometimes.  Heck, when I first got started, I was confuzzled as all get out! Couldn't tell a Bitcoin from a Dogecoin. Wink  But I'll tell you what I've learned over the years - you cant expect no hand holding in these parts.  Them cowboy crypto traders they wanna see you stand on your own two feet and

Now don't get me wrong, these folks here are mostly good people.  They'll give you some advice if you ask nice, point you to a few good coins maybe.  But when it comes day's end, your moneys yours to make or break.  Ain't no guarantees in this racket no sir.  Crypto coins go up and down faster than a yo-yo.  You gotta be ready to hold on tight.

My advice? Do your reading, figure out what projects you believe in, then give your wallet a slap on the ass and tell it to buckle up, cause you're in it for the long haul.  And whatever you do don't put in more money than you can stand to lose.

Best of luck, and happy trails!
470  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is there any fun in losing while gambling on: December 29, 2023, 11:43:12 PM
Gambling for fun? its easy to say but when you are on the actual situation then its never been fun on committing or experiencing losses on which this would be your primary experience that you would be able to encounter when doing gambling.
<...>

I respectfully disagree with the notion that no one enjoys gambling.  For some folks, hitting the tables or slots provides a welcomed chance to socialize and connect with their nearest and dearest and  take Poker Night with the guys, for instance.  Or that lively trip to the casino with the gals.  Even just snuggling up to play some online slots with your special someone.

The way I see it, the social dimensions of gambling can infuse these pastimes with merriment and meaning win or lose.  The key is keeping perspective and not breaking the bank.

Beyond social bonds, gambling also allows some people to relax and decompress.  Sliding a few bucks into a BUSY slot machine while waiting around.  Attempting to best the blackjack dealer in a battle of wits and odds.  For these folks, a little wagering is a salve for the worries of life, if only for a short while.
471  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What's Your Feeling After You Finish Gambling. on: December 29, 2023, 11:12:19 PM
Be honest with yourself and vote on the poll on What's Your Feeling After You Finish Gambling?

I don't think I can answer your question in the poll, because there is no simple answer.  Gambling makes people feel all kinds of ways - excited when you win, frustrated when you lose, disappointed if you don't win as much as you hoped, even guilty or ashamed about spending so much time and money.  If gambling leaves you with bad feelings afterwards don't ignore them - let yourself feel whatever comes up.
472  Other / Meta / Re: Why is this forum on SMF? on: December 29, 2023, 11:02:29 PM
Recently I installed a forum for testing. I used phpbb on it but later I realised that it has a big demerit that the URL it gives does not contain the content of title of thread. I checked this forum and here also the issue is same. Was this not taken into consideration while choosing forum software ? Or does it not matter much? Are there some special benefits of SMF over other popular forum softwares like xenforo or vbulletin?

Changing topic titles may mean URLs also get altered.  Some good reasons exist, however, for keeping URLs static rather than dynamic.  Firstly, search engines can index unchanging URLs more easily.  Second point - user-friendliness; folks bookmarking threads need assurance the URL leads back no matter if tweaks occur to the title.
473  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My Thanks To All forum members on: December 29, 2023, 10:46:45 PM
It's always nice to hear when people find value here.  I'm especially happy that you learned the critical lesson of doing your own homework before investing your money.  That's a skill that will serve you well in crypto or any market.  Too many folks lose their shirts by blindly following so-called hot tips instead of digging into the details themselves and  kudos to you for taking responsibility for your financial education.  An informed investor is a protected one.

Heres wishing you wise choices and profitable trades down the line!
474  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Not everyone deserves to hear of your winning in gambling. on: December 29, 2023, 10:18:56 PM
<...>

You're so right.  We gotta think about who we're talking to.  For folks with gambling problems or who've lost a bunch betting, hearing stuff like that can hurt or even trigger unhealthy stuff.  I'm not saying hide it but maybe tone down the bragging around certain people and  the last thing we wanna do is rub salt in someone's wounds or cause them pain. Just something to chew on.
475  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto investment vs real estate investment : Which one more dependable? on: December 29, 2023, 10:12:13 PM
Crypto and real estate can both be good investments if you play your cards right.  But with only a little bit of money to invest, real estate is probably out of reach.  You'd likely need at least tens of thousands of dollars for even a small down payment on a place.

Cryptocurrency on the other hand offers a way to potentially get big returns without a huge buy in.  The catch is that crypto tends to be volatile and  so you gotta have the stomach for some serious ups and downs if you wanna ride that rollercoaster.  But hey, you might catch it on an upswing and do really well if lady luck is on your side.

Just know that any investment carries risks.  Don't put in more money than you can afford to lose.  But if you've got a little discretionary income set aside to play with, crypto could give you a shot to turn it into something more substantial.  At least more likely than trying to scrape together enough for real estate right now.

Who knows maybe once your crypto gains roll in youll have enough for that downpayment after all!

Is it just me or is this forum getting weirder and weirder by the day?

Now we also have dead people lurking around... What's next?
477  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can I dodge KYC using the his medium. on: December 29, 2023, 12:12:14 AM
I don't get why many people are afraid of KYC. If you want a smooth transaction or withdrawal process of your funds in a casino, then pass the KYC first!!! because most online casinos right now comply with the rules and regulations of the government or law that they should enable customers to do KYC to prevent unwanted activities like money laundering or what so ever, but if you don't want KYC, then better not hope that you can withdraw your money or funds from a casino because they will not approve your withdrawal process as long as you are not complying with the rules.

I don't think that the strategy you are thinking of will get through because, under the rules, anyone who doesn't pass the KYC doesn't have access to withdraw from a specific casino, so before you play and deposit in a casino, make sure to verify if they have rules like this.

I get why some folks don't like going through Know Your Customer stuff.  Handing over private info to a company you don't know makes people nervous.  And yeah, companies have screwed up and leaked data before, so that doesn't help either.  I think if companies were more transparent about how they safeguard your information, more people might feel better about it.  But for now the anxiety is understandable.

So, I understand the desire to get around policies, but it's best to follow proper channels.  Attempting shortcuts could backfire with closed accounts or legal issues. Either way, cooperation tends to work out better for all.
478  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What we all learnt this 2023 on: December 28, 2023, 10:33:01 PM
👉 Don't take popular opinions as an investment advice.
👉 Stop relying on Telegram channels or Reddit groups for trade signals or investment advice.

Yeah, we gotta think for ourselves when moneys involved.  What's popular ain't always right.  Social media makes spreading opinions too easy - even bad ones.  Investing like that rarely goes how you hope.

These platforms can provide valuable information and insights, but they're also breeding grounds for misinformation and manipulation. I try to ignore the hype trains. Research and caution have treated me okay so far.
479  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to learn Bitcoin on: December 28, 2023, 10:11:12 PM
I am a freshman student who is very interested in blockchain technology. Unfortunately, my university major is cloud computing. I don’t know where to start. Huh Huh Huh

As a student studying cloud computing, you can totally explore blockchain at the same time.  The stuff in your classes like distributed systems and encryption and consensus methods relates to blockchain anyway.  You're already learning things that cross over into blockchain behind the scenes.

No reason a student couldn't pursue both interests in parallel - maybe even discover innovative ways they intersect.
480  Economy / Speculation / Re: HODLers, When Will You Sell? on: December 28, 2023, 04:35:17 PM
I think Bitcoin's got legs in the long run, but no way am I gonna bet the farm on some pie-in-the-sky price target.  I'm playing the long game here - just gonna ride out the highs and lows and wait for my precious coins to shine and  if we ever get to 100k, heymazel tov, but I ain't cashing out completely.  Maybe just a little to treat myself.  Nah, hitting a number like that - itll tell me I wasn't nuts for hodling and remind me why I got into this whole crazy ride in the first place.

I'm not one of those guys watching the charts all day, ready to dump everything.  I believe in this thing.  That means taking the downturns with the upswings.  So I'll keep on hodling keep on waiting, maybe grab a little profit if we moon.  But I didnt get into Bitcoin to make a quick buck.  I'm here for the long haul.
