461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Metaverse and blockchain on: December 14, 2021, 08:41:18 AM
There's absolutely no guarantee that Metaverses will even become widespread.

It is widely hyped, yes. But projects that are based on metaverses are also wildly overvalued right now and may collapse in value at any moment.

Just do your DYOR and make sure that whatever you invest are in good causes, and not going into the hands of crappy founders.

463  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Taxes and regulations kill the odds on: December 10, 2021, 09:03:03 PM
Gambling tax literally doesn't make sense to me.

You're taxing a zero or often negative sum game in which people enter with the expectation of losing. Why in the world would anyone want to tax gambling earnings in that regard?

Apart from just sheer greed, I really can't think of another reason. And you're right, this distorts the odds substantially.
464  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How you deal with your emotions after losing a lot of money on rug pulls? on: December 10, 2021, 11:26:05 AM
Perhaps it's a good idea to review your investment strategy if you're subject to multiple rugpulls? Just a suggestion.

If your DD actually works and such you should never have to deal with rugpulls because the majority of the projects you come into contact with are going to be legitimate projects even if they don't end up giving 100 bagger profits.

If you are sure that your DD is fine and it's just bad luck, just keep at it and don't throw in the towel emotionally.
465  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is your analysis says about btc in Q1 of 2022?? on: December 10, 2021, 11:07:05 AM
I think that if the previous cycles revolving around halvings are any indication, we should expect an easing of the bullish conditions come Q1 2022.

Especially with the Fed potentially tightening up rates, it's foreseeable that the debt availability will be lower come a quarters time and therefore depress asset prices in general.

Don't overleverage yourself right now - keep it chill and DCA.
466  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: December 10, 2021, 05:12:29 AM
Lebron James with his 100th triple-double despite losing against the Grizzlies. Congratulations to him and is now listed on the top 5 of the franchise joining Jason Kidd, Magic, Robertson, and of course the top 1, his teammate, Russell Westbrook with 189 triple-doubles already. If he will have more years to play he might even pass Kidd at 4th place with 107 or better Magic @138.

Nikola Jokic also registered another triple-double in 3 consecutive games. He is back on his MVP caliber type of game but it's not enough to give them a win. Someone in that Nuggets team needs to step up his game or they will be doomed trying to reach a playoff spot. They are now at 7th seed and it's not safe there.

Lebron and Westbrook are putting up great numbers but they are not translating to wins, which is what matters.

Jokic is putting up historical numbers but doesn't seem to get love as the MVP candidate because of their lower seed situation.

I really think that Denver can make a push to home court in the playoffs this season despite a rocky start if Jokic keeps this up.
467  Economy / Economics / Re: US Real Estate Enters A Bubble For The First Time Since 2007: US Federal Reserve on: December 10, 2021, 04:57:26 AM
Well, it's good that they are detecting exactly what they have done to the economy.

A combination of easy monetary policy and low interest rates have fuelled the biggest asset bubble in decades, and the unwinding could likely be worse than anything that we've ever seen before.

Be vigilant out here. This can get ugly real quick.
468  Economy / Economics / Re: how realistic is this: create own big crypto trading platform with own USDA on: December 10, 2021, 04:36:08 AM
Your plan all depends on the fact that people believe in the value of this "USDA".

This is harder than it looks. Tether started out with full reserve and the backing of many major players in the crypto space and slowly devolved into this monster that we see right now.

Otherwise, you are just going to have high crypto prices on paper but not in "real terms".
469  Economy / Speculation / Re: Comparing bitcoin halvings - 2012 to 2020 on: December 10, 2021, 04:22:21 AM
The trend is clear but I don't think that it is necessarily fair to extrapolate this into future performance.

Bitcoin is getting saturated for sure as institutional adoption has already happened and retail investors are already well aware.

There will still be long term growth, but definitely don't expect anything crazy like we've seen over the past decade.
470  Economy / Economics / Re: Just because prices are high, doesn't mean that is a good investment. on: December 10, 2021, 04:03:56 AM
Shouldn't it actually be the reverse?

If prices are low, then it is more likely that it is going to be a good investment going forward.

People tend to forget that returns is a function of both present and future price. The higher present values are the lower the percentage returns are going to be as well.
471  Economy / Economics / Re: China’s Internet Billionaires Suffer $73 Billion Wipeout on: December 10, 2021, 02:43:24 AM
It's actually a value play now to go and invest in Chinese stocks.

Especially the giants like Alibaba which has just as much if not more influence than Amazon, but trading at much more attractive multiples.

I don't think that a lot of the fear right now is justified. Didi will relist on the Hong Kong stock exchange so it's not like there will be no liquidity.
472  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you lose interest to deposit and play more..., on: December 10, 2021, 02:20:14 AM
There is no such thing as perfect online casinos because of the many rules and conflicting laws on the location of their players, there will always be accusations some could be valid some because of misinterpretation of the TOS, so I'd to ask all gambling players do you lose interest to deposit and play on the casinos you're playing if they have unresolved cases.

Yes, 100%.

Before I deposit I always check whether or not the casino has had a track record of being somewhat shady with stuff like KYC/AML.

If they are, then I would not play on their site under any circumstances, even if they offer up lucrative bonuses and such. Because chances are that they won't make good on their promises to their clients.
473  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: December 10, 2021, 01:17:46 AM
I like the fact that Kemba isn't disgruntled at least publicly unlike some other stars.

He has mentioned that he wants to set an example for other players in the league that came after him, and that is very noble.

Certain players like Ben Simmons have to learn from him. Even though Kemba is an all-star, he understands that the NBA is a business.
474  Economy / Economics / Re: Debt super-cycles and bitcoin on: December 09, 2021, 11:06:34 PM
I do think that bitcoin prices are contingent somewhat on these cycles.

When there is debt fuelled expansion, speculative cryptos tend to go up.

But the thing is unlike fiat based assets, bitcoin and cryptos in general will not falter as a result of these cycles - they will be much better off as an asset class in these times.
475  Economy / Economics / Re: Ubisoft Becomes First Major Gaming Company to Launch In-Game NFTs on: December 09, 2021, 10:59:25 PM
I really don't get the point of having centralized utility NFTs.

These games are obviously hosted by Ubisoft so it doesn't really matter whether or not their in game items are NFTs on a blockchain or just hosted on the servers of Ubisoft - because if the game goes down, everything is worthless anyway.

That's what I don't get about this hype. It's not that NFTs are useless, it's that people hype up not-so-great usage cases as if it's the second coming of Jesus.
476  Economy / Economics / Re: The gold confiscation of 1933 on: December 09, 2021, 10:44:56 PM
You're right.

Bitcoin has substantial advantage over gold for this simple reason - you cannot simply say that you're going to confiscate it as a government because everything is anonymised and such.

It's a shame that no one seems to care about these things and everyone is putting blind faith into the government, which is rarely rewarded.
477  Economy / Economics / Re: The CIA Is Deep Into Cryptocurrency, Director Reveals on: December 09, 2021, 09:10:50 PM
Well this just shows the feasibility of blockchain technology.

Granted, they are probably working on centralizing control rather than decentralization but the point still stands - this is a testament to the commercial viability of DeFi tech as a whole.

Though this is hardly groundbreaking, one would think that the CIA would be at the forefront of cryptography in the first place.
478  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Slot Machine Strategy? on: December 09, 2021, 08:55:42 PM
One of my best friends and I would travel to the local casino some years back from time to time.  Wasn't a very fun casino but it was about as good as we could get for those times as gambling was very restricted back then.  He was a big fan of playing slots and always seemed to have some sort of strategy.  He would look for players who were sitting at a machine for a long period of time and then play them.  There were a couple other things he did that he called "strategy" but I can't remember what they were.

My question for you guys, is there any strategy you know of for slot machines ? I think this more so applies to in person casinos but maybe online as well.

Does waiting to get on a machine that gets heavily played a legit strategy?  Does it make more sense to play different types of machines or play one machines for a long period of time? Etc etc..

No.

Most of the slot machines in casinos have inbuilt RNG and do not pay out whenever it becomes "due". That is just classic gambler's fallacy.

The online slots do not have a strategy either. You may be able to maximise your expected returns by playing the max amount every time to get a chance at bonus features, but that's about it.
479  Economy / Economics / Re: I think most people still trust the USD more than Bitcoin on: December 09, 2021, 11:08:36 AM
I think so too.

Whether this trust is well placed or not becomes a completely different matter.

People are conditioned from birth to trust the government and the central bank's currency without any good reasons for doing so. It's irrational in every sense of the word given that fiat currency is backed by nothing.
480  Economy / Economics / Re: A majority of Gen Z investors think crypto will make them millionaires on: December 09, 2021, 10:15:00 AM
This is precisely what is dangerous about the current bull run.

These people are entirely missing the point of crypto.

Crypto isn't a tool to make you rich or anything like that, but rather a store of value and a hedge against the fiat economy. It's not a sexy get rich quick tool no matter how many people seem to love that idea.
