501  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Good sportsbetting content on: January 16, 2024, 09:53:16 PM
My favorite type of video for sports content is seeing the highlights with relevant commentary after the match.

But for sports betting specifically, I like commentary on how a team has been doing in its league, past history with the other team, insights on who is injured or who is scoring a lot lately etc. These things of talked about by a reliable source who knows what they are talking about can help you make more educated decisions in betting, so I appreciate this dissection of matches if done Right. There's surely space for such in gsmbling probably.
502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paying house rent with bitcoin is it appropriate? on: January 16, 2024, 06:36:29 PM
The paradox with Bitcoin is that while it had many unique features compared to other formed of money, people don't want to spend it.
If your source of income is in dollars, you'd rather want to spend them as they are they inflationary form of currency that's going around.

The so called 'stacking sats' mentality is prevalent among bircoiners for a reason. Bitcoin being non-ifationary gives more of an incentive to be held than to be spent. So really buying a house with BTC to most would sound absurd. Is it advisable though? Highly depends on each person's financial status. Can't answer this question on a general frame imho.
503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What do you think about Arbitrum future? on: January 15, 2024, 11:51:12 PM
Eventually I think the hype will die down.
Later 2s to Ethereum will be plagued by the same fundamental issues Ethereum has.
Expensive transactions, complexity and centralization.

Even ethereum's most nodes (who have now replaced miners) are run on commercial servers. The requirements (and financial incentives) make it almost an impossibility to run an etherum full node on a home computer. Imagine getting slashed and losing thousands in eth just because of a power outage for instance. This has brought a lot of centralization on later one even.

On the other hand, the so called web3 is also very centralized. Every transaction metamask processes for instance is based on centralized relays that can get hacked. And even websites don't use their own nodes. The recent hack of ledger's library for web3 proved how flawed and centralized web3 is. These issues are becoming harder to fix as we get more layer 2s, not easier.

Maybe in many years there will be a DeFi as decentelized as Bitcoin. When that comes, and if, solutions like Arbitrum will remain in the past.
504  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Social aspects of online gambling on: January 15, 2024, 11:43:16 PM
It would probably look good for casinos if they implement a feature where players has the option to just talk over a mic and not type what they want to say. The socialization on online games would improve dramatically but they would need more moderation on that because some players could be wild and chaotic or talk over each other. That's going to cost them too so they can weigh in on the pros and cons of adding it.
Personally I'd be more willing to sit on a table if it had this feature.
Of course it would need some moderation but also if it is only for the higher stake tables probably it would make sense financially.
Casinos hire so many people to run live games, even for low stakes tables. Wouldn't it also be worth it to have a moderator as a second worker for high stakes ones? I think it would surely be possible and interesting to test out. Maybe players that want this would maybe end up playing on higher stakes just to be able to do a little talking.
505  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Making too many picks reduces chances of winning. on: January 15, 2024, 11:36:27 PM
Most punters I gave seen only know a handful of teams really well.
Yes ofc there are people that will know every little detail about their country's top tier and perhaps even second tier leagues by heart.
But the vast majority if us sport fans will maybe know some stuff about our local team, their rivals, the top of the league etc. So tops 3 to 5 teams.

And ofc if on any particular week you want to get many bets in, naturally you will have to put stakes in more games than the ones you know enough things to make educated decisions about. So the advice in the OP Is valid in that regard. If someone wants to make many different bets on a regular basis I would at least recommend making them in categories and teams they are more certain about.
506  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Too much trading fee deduction on Bybit on: January 15, 2024, 11:29:40 PM
Common trick by exchanges, start out with lower fees, best the market, capture a part of the pie, and then gradually keep milking your loyal traders more and more.

Funny thing is in bybit especially, if you are a large volun maker, you even get PAID to make trades. Bybit will have people having an incentive to market make instead of having to hire someone... And the small volume traders are the ones funding this. It's outrageous if you think about it, but that's not to say that traditional markets are fairer... St least bybit is transparent about how they charge fees.
507  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius pool is back under the new name Ocean on: January 15, 2024, 11:26:14 PM
Some odd fluctuations in the pool's hashrate seem to be taking place, seems like some of the larger miners are probably dictating that.

After the pool peaked at 1 Eh/s a lot of hash power went out, some other went in.
Some facilities might be having issues, other miners might be doing testing...
Who knows. But I still speculate that eventually more hash power will settle in ocean pool as more miners realize that in the long run the TIDES payment structure is more profitable than PPLNS.

On the other hand, the pool also doesn't punish pool hopping, so we'll probably keep seeing noticable changes in it's total hash power till more miners of a larger scale settle in it.

Probably a good time to get in more shares as part of the pie now in case a block is found now if you're a miner though
508  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Social aspects of online gambling on: January 15, 2024, 11:18:04 PM
Well, I don't think it's really for "socializing" because the majority for sure is only small talk if you don't know the person. If you do know, you won't have time to even talk to them I think. It's better to find somewhere else to socialize if you were to want to "touch grass" or something like that.

I feel like you want some social media aspect in casinos. That may be a new idea or something. Please credit me with the idea lol  Shocked
The thing is, even for small talk, you need to see a person's face and hear their tone of voice.
The snarky comments made at poker and blackjack tables for instance are all the money sometimes.
Or getting to know someone that just went bust for the day and just wants to talk about slots, these are some of the funniest conversations one can have imho. But the features in an online casino wouldn't really provide such a experience or anything equivalent to any level.

Maaaaybe to some extent streamers cover part of that, but still itls also one sided because the streamer is the only one interacting, and viewers can only just write.
509  Economy / Gambling discussion / Social aspects of online gambling on: January 15, 2024, 11:08:59 PM
To the people that have maybe tried both online and physical gambling, how do you perceive the socialization aspects of online gambling?

In my personal opinion: I think casinos that feature crypto gsmbling are somewhat lacking in terms of how players can communicate with each other. I get that some people that gamble online might actually want to avoid talking to other people, but what if you can only gamble online and still want do socialize a little bit?

When I tried sitting on live blackjack tables for example, the dealer would always introduce topics, as if he/she was told to keep talking. But it felt very repetitive and forced. The chat wasn't a good means to actually keep up a discussion. Out of the wight playwrs maybe one or two would reply with single words, and if you wrote something longer the dealer wouldn't have time to read it, respond and keep dealing at the same time anyway. So it was just a one sided back and forth, not a real discussion.

In other sites there is a single chat and it's so active that it's actually hard to follow, while there are thousands of players...

It's just my view that most online casinos could do many things to improve the social aspect of their sites. Not sure if there would be demand though.
510  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: cashout or wait till the end? on: January 15, 2024, 10:43:46 PM
The issue with early cashouts like this is that you can't do a partial cashout and take just your initial. It's either take some or lose it all later.

Well, at such a huge win, I would think of it this this way.
Would this money change my life? If yes, I would just secure the profits instead of risk it.
Else, I might risk it.

It really depends on the context of each person's needs.
511  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What's The Weirdest Alibi Of Gamblers So They Can Continue Gambling? on: January 14, 2024, 08:57:36 PM
I remember some old friend who by his own admission was addicted to gambling.
He would always ask people if they wanted to go to the casino. Many people have apparently never been there and wanted to see the experience so he would get many yeses.
Due to being an addict, he would often be broke in the middle of the month. But he could scrape by to get some gas to just drive to the casino with tips from his work. So if a friend was with him, if he had lost all his monthly salary already, he'd take the friend there and get his fix by just watching them play and perhaps giving them instructions or cheering them.

This was just another excuse to keep going to the casino even when he was broke. But more than anything else, he was lying to himself. Later he risked losing his job and eventually came to the realization that he can't keep throwing his life away so thankfully that guy is not addicted anymore. Sadly though still too ashamed to speak to people from his past so we don't hang out anymore.
512  Economy / Economics / Re: girl math vs boy math on: January 14, 2024, 05:52:11 PM
OP, have you ever considered that s good percentage of this forum is women, silently posting among us too?
It would be a statistical impossibility for things to be otherwise.

The thing is, it's mostly due to our behavior that women stay away from showcasing or even participating with activities such as investing, development etc. Let's worry about raising a good generation or two of boys who will give equal treatment to women as they would to their male coworkers, peers, employees etc. and then maybe worry about giving women life lessons much later down the line. 🤔
513  Economy / Services / Re: NON PROFIT PAID TRANSACTION ACCELERATION SERVICE on: January 14, 2024, 05:46:50 PM
Thanks, but it would be better to just share the links to the services you are going to use so we can accelerate it ourselves, because you know, we don't wanna bother you etc. 😉
Viabtc & mempool.space acceleration service afaik are the only ones.
If OP is just using third party services there's no point using him as an intermediary instead of just doing it yourself...

So yeah, I would recommend to OP to just stick to reddit where people are much less experienced. 🤪
514  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Land-based Casino Enjoyers are something else. on: January 14, 2024, 05:42:20 PM
There's also good people at physical casinos.
I have a weird story about that which I may tell sometime in more detail but my parents actually met in one of those back in the day. Cheesy

The thing with physical casinos is that in most of them you can get free drinks no questions asked. Often alcoholic drinks are included too just if you sit at a table or game machine. So those who indulge in the vice of drinking might find themselves in situations where they can't control themselves. If this was to happen often anywhere, it would surely be a place like a casino where alcohol is literally free (to the guests).

But thankfully it's very easy for a physical casino to ban such a person. Before kicking them out, strip them of their member card. If they ever show up again they will be able to kick them out before they enter by IDing them... Problems can still happen sometimes but really it's not that frequent in my experience. In a good casino there's enough staff to take care of the craziest quickly and the atmosphere remains cheerful.
515  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Alter Ego In Gambling on: January 14, 2024, 05:24:33 PM
Well of course most people that gamble online are gonna play a character when they do so.
Think of it like this, out of all people in this forum, very few have spoken publicly with their face showing and their voice being heard.

Maybe some of these would be developers, who do most of their work with their real name. But for hobbies such as gambling, probably they also use pseodonyms or an outright fabricated persona that you could call an alter ego.

But it's also my suspicion that most people who gamble online are doing so without any public interaction with others. Online gambling can be social, but in very different ways than how in person gambling can be.
516  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where have all the low volatility slots gone??? on: January 14, 2024, 02:59:09 PM
I also appreciate the allure of more frequent wins, even if they come with a lower ceiling, a steadier pace that I enjoy when playing slots. I agree with what was said about how the higher the RTP, the lower the volatility. I also prefer that because it allows for longer gameplay, and there's more entertainment and excitement in playing. As a new player back then, I was less concerned about volatility, and I didn't know about RTP before I started playing. I lacked awareness because I was more focused on graphics or animation. So, in terms of low volatility, I think each provider has games like that nowadays; it just depends on the specific game.
Agree with everything said here but one thing.
I think RTP and volatility are different metrics.

Maybe a slot game with higher RTP should be giving back more of the money it gets, but if it has a multiplier of let's say 30000x, then it wouldn't be able to support frequent wins, because that large payout would have to be funded somehow. So lower payouts like 1.2x, 5x etc would not happen that often probably.

It would be ideal if each slot would say how often each multiplier is hit on average, but speaking from experience, slots that have the highest multipliers don't have that of a steady pace for payouts.
517  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: why do gamblers always ague alot? on: January 12, 2024, 06:16:29 PM
My experience has been that football fans in general argue a lot.
It doesn't have to do with just gambling, moreso with passion about anything.

It's a weird state of affairs actually. Gambler's at least would have a stake in the game. But people who just like a team often go crazy when things don't seem to go their way. This is something I never understood. Ok, I would feel some momentary disappointment if my team lost a good shot, but I can never comprehend why some people shout at their screen with passion while sitting on their couch watching a game.
518  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What ugly incident or occurrence have you ever experienced in gambling? on: January 12, 2024, 04:23:41 PM
Many years ago when I was traveling with a ferry, it had a casino room onboard and for the brief period the ship entered into international waters they would open it up. For the time that it was, it had some pretty fancy slot machines. I remember there being a very weird incident where some person seemed to have won the jackpot but had to call the crew because the machine was not paying out.

The multiplier would have been something like 1500x but he was told that it was a malfunction and became so angry he had to be restrained for the rest of the trip. Casinos on ferries only lasted a couple more years before being completely removed, probably due to incidents like this also.
519  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where have all the low volatility slots gone??? on: January 12, 2024, 12:01:27 AM
I'm actually waiting for a slots maker to do something similar -- not that it'd entice me much.
It's interesting that some of the oldest and logrdt running casinos in crypto actually have some of the most technologically advanced and versatile slots. To be honest I wasn't even aware. This seems like a good selling point to experienced gamblers and it makes me wonder why it's not promoted more.

I've mostly been playing on Stake and over there when playing slots I actually have a preference for the so called stake original slots, which are made by the casino and not any specific third party provider. These had good RTP and also were provably fair.
I was hoping we would also see more games like these but with lower volatility.
But the bigger and most advertised casinos don't seem to care that much. Probably the profit in higher volatility stocks is better in the long term so if a casino gets big it tends to ignore them?
520  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where have all the low volatility slots gone??? on: January 11, 2024, 08:14:13 PM
Honestly speaking, based on my observation as a slot player for a long, volatility isn't a big deal now to most gamblers. Generally, if we do some interviews with some slot players out there, surely they will say that there's not much difference now between low and high-volatility slots as in the end, they will still experience being wrecked.

Sometimes, some gamblers are lucky at low volatility then unfortunate at high volatility slots, and vice-versa. Not sure about how volatility works in physical casinos but at least in online casinos, players pick slots now based on design and how attractive the huge multiplier is in the banner of that said game.
This is a theory that sounds likely to me in a way.
On one hand more and more people are taking their gambling activities online. But on the other hand, the whole promotion of gambling games really hasn't done much to show players what's supposed to happen and what the features are when they are playing slots.

So these new gamblers don't really seem to care that much.
It has also been my experience that newer online gamblers care more about graphics other than stats and important metrics such as RTP and house edge. Might sound counter intuitive, but I guess the wave of streamer promotion might have played a role in this.
