501  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New SEC Requirement for DEX Liquidity Providers on: February 08, 2024, 09:19:02 AM
What is this bullshit? Registration under the rules of the Securities and Exchange Commission means submitting documents, identification papers, revealing identity and all other details, as well as providing proof of the source of funds, etc. This is completely inconsistent with the concept of DEX. Who will surrender their neck to the sword of the American government?

Now liquidity providers have two options: either operating underground illegally or fleeing to a place outside the authority of the US government.

Gary thinks he can turn DEX into central banks under government control, this guy is getting so funny I think he needs a psychiatrist!!!
Gary Gensler may look like a clown sometimes, but he's no fool. Any collar should be put on gradually. At first the sum will be 50 million, and many people don’t care about it. Then the amount will decrease to 5 million, but it will be difficult to argue with this, because there will be large fines or prison sentences for violations. And in the United States, such crimes have no statute of limitations. And then this amount can be reduced to 100-500 thousand.

Under the final rules, any person that engages in activities as described in the rules is a “dealer” or “government securities dealer” and, absent an exception or exemption, required to: register with the Commission under Section 15(a) or Section 15C, as applicable; become a member of an SRO; and comply with federal securities laws and regulatory obligations and applicable SRO and Treasury rules and requirements."

AI-generated fake IDs claimed to pass crypto exchange KYC are selling for $15
"A new service claiming to use artificial intelligence (AI) “neural networks” and “generators” to create fake driver licenses and passports has reportedly succeeded in passing Know Your Customer (KYC) checks on multiple crypto exchanges.

The cost? Only $15 a pop.

The site, OnlyFake, generates realistic fake driver’s licenses and passports from 26 countries, including the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia and multiple European Union countries, and takes payment in multiple cryptocurrencies through Coinbase’s commercial payments service.

404 Media reported on Feb. 5 that it successfully bypassed the KYC verification of crypto exchange OKX using a photo of a British passport the outlet generated with the site, where the ID appeared to be laid on a bedsheet as if a picture of it was taken."

"54% of ERC-20 Tokens Listed on DEXes in 2023 Display Patterns That May Be Suggestive of Pump and Dump Schemes, but Represent just 1.3% of DEX Trading Volume

For most of the research that we publish in our annual Crypto Crime Report, the data tells a clear story. For instance, funds sent to ransomware operators, darknet markets, or sanctioned entities can be measured and trends can be analyzed with Chainalysis labeling and data. But blockchain data can also be used to detect suspicious trading patterns. In these cases, the evidence on the blockchain is less definitive. Instead, on-chain data can provide a starting point for deeper investigations, usually combined with other, off-chain information. For this reason, we do not include possible market manipulation proceeds or estimates of victim losses in our count of total illicit transaction volume — there isn’t enough information to determine whether the activity is criminal or not without additional context. 509  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Nigeria unbans cryptocurrency on: February 07, 2024, 09:55:04 AM
This is a service for Russians who do not know India and local crypto exchanges. I am sure that these services use the right exchanges in India and make good money on the difference between the prices on the exchanges and their prices. But they help transfer money from Russia and other countries to India without registration and other problems.

They are making a good amount as the exchange rate for USD on Indian exchanges is very good. I am quoting an example here the rate generally varies from INR 89 to INR 90 to 1 USD. However, when I checked the link they were offering INR 73 for 1 USD. So, the difference is INR 16 to INR 17 which is quite good money if the volumes are high. Since they are based in some major metropolitan cities in India and are still working, I assume they are getting good profits.

18% is a good profit, but you must take into account that this activity is not entirely legal and they also have risks.

And the safest option is not to conduct activities publicly. If we take the Russian experience and do not use couriers or caches, then in Russia there are many telegram bots that allow you to make P2P exchanges. I have said many times that such services are also used by scammers and the user has a chance to get the card blocked and an invitation to the police.
If P2P transfers work, then this alleviates the problem with the exchange.
Yes, it is true, so here we use Telegram for exchange, but we do not use Telegram bots because they are not reliable. There is a Telegram account for more than one broker that is reliable by experience.

The exchange takes place manually, as the seller sends the amount to be transferred to the broker’s wallet. Then the broker contacts the buyer and asks him to send a “money or bank transfer” to the seller’s address equivalent to the value of the amount in local currency. When the seller receives the money transfer, he informs the broker who transfers the amount to the Buyer’s wallet (with a 1-2% commission discount from the seller and buyer).

Therefore, everything is done manually and depends primarily on trust in the broker.
I agree with you that trust is the main basis in this business. But Telegram saves logs and I have heard of cases where Telegram employees passed on important information to others. And there is always a risk that data on all transactions will be declassified.

Craig Steven Wright is a clown and fraudster who has been trying to obtain copyright for Bitcoin for many years. It is understandable because it is a lot of money.

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/legal/the-trial-that-could-end-craig-wrights-satoshi-claim-for-good-started-today
"The trial is of particular significance because it stands to affect a number of other upcoming court cases, perhaps most importantly including a lawsuit filed by Wright against several Bitcoin Core contributors. If COPA is able to prove that Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto, he is unlikely to stand a chance in these cases. But if the High Court judge rules that Wright is in fact Bitcoin’s creator, it could eventually result in the Australian computer scientist gaining copyright over the Bitcoin white paper and source code, which could severely stifle the Bitcoin development process. Already, Wright’s actions appear to have had somewhat of a chilling effect on the open source development community."
511  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: German Police Seizes Record 50,000 BTC Worth $2.17B in Major Piracy Case on: February 07, 2024, 09:39:12 AM

Europe is catching up with America in terms of confiscated Bitcoins.

That's fine! I am sure that as a common bitcoin user, you would not want such criminals to be a part of the network. So with every criminal scot Bitcoin network is getting cleaned a bit. Definitely it is a good job done by the German police by catching the criminals and by confesticating the Bitcoins. Doesn't matter how decentralize the network is, criminals are not welcome.

So let Europe catch up with America in this matter because it is for the greater good of the Bitcoin network.
One of the biggest misconceptions about Bitcoin is that it is mainly used to cover up criminal funding and other illegal activities. But they fail to understand that fiat is a far better means to give or receive payments from criminal activities. The majority of the kidnappers that are ravaging my country only ask for fiat ransom. None of them have ever asked for cryptocurrencies because they could cover up their tracks easily with fiat. So I agree that these seizures by the government are making the Bitcoin system clean and showing critics that the currency is not a hiding place for criminal elements.
I don’t know the statute of limitations for such crimes in Europe, but this crime happened more than 11 years ago, and Bitcoin was not so popular then and was very inexpensive.
But unfortunately, the article does not contain information about how the criminals and their assets were found. Perhaps it was a deal.

"The Argentine government, presided by Javier Milei, has resolved to drop the tax opportunities for crypto in the omnibus bill presented to Congress. The bill allowed taxpayers to declare the ownership of some previously undeclared assets, with crypto also included, reducing the payments and fees for this task.

Argentine Government Excludes Crypto Opportunities From Omnibus Bill
The Argentine government has withdrawn the opportunities for declaring ownership of certain assets, including crypto, from the omnibus bill presented to Congress this month. The bill, titled “Law of Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines,” seeks to advance reforms in several areas, including getting legislative powers for President Javier Milei, who could take action directly in several fields, sidestepping Congress."

This guy Javier Milei is kind of weird, he is coming up with policies that should either destroy the country or save it. First, he tries to implement a policy in a country that is ranked 98th most corrupt nation then he takes only 20 days to take it back. He would have eventually realized that he was going after the rich or the elite. I doubt apart from the rich and elite there would be others investing in cryptocurrencies in that country. He would have also realized that these guys can bribe the officials to not investigate them if they do not declare their assets in crypto or stocks.

What he will now do is come up with a harsher policy to tax the rich and elites who are hiding their funds. That will mean he would need to implement a regulation around it. Seeking reforms using policies and regulations never works unless you handle corruption, he needs to first focus on that area of concern and then think about generating revenue through tax for his country

I looked at forecasts for Argentina, where experts promise inflation of 200-300% this year. In such conditions, it is unprofitable to keep money in banks, so either cryptocurrencies or dollars remain, but it is easier to store your savings in cryptocurrencies and transport them across the border.

516  Local / Альтернативные криптовалюты / Re: Telegram Open Network (TON): Павел Дуров выходит на ICO on: February 05, 2024, 12:46:24 PM

@zasad@. I very much disagree. In the present condition of their economy, with their debt and high spending, their tax payers certainly cannot support the illegal migrants that are entering their jurisdiction. The government does not have the budget and they cannot increase more taxes on the people because it will force more financial pressure on them and it is also an election year hehehe. The Democrats do not want the voters to have much hate on them.
The United States has about 1,000 military bases around the world about which there is open information, and many more secret military bases about which there is no information in open sources.
The United States has money for these expenses, but there is no money to close the holes in the Mexican border.
Maybe Americans don’t want to work as drivers, construction workers, and similar professions, and the government is filling this need with Mexicans.
