Dan - exactly how does the Service Fee Regen work?

thanks in advance

Dan? Are you eMunie DEV?

I think Syscoin Dan will agree with eMunie Dan (me), that one crypto-currency at a time in development is plenty!! Smiley

Hey there Smiley I will 10000% agree. As will my fiance and the collective families of all the Syscoin team members- they've been lookin at us like this ->  Angry for the past week! But we are committed to doing this right!

Going to post more news on the upcoming plans for the week/weekend tonight. Remember we hard fork at block 17,000- about 7hrs from now! We will be monitoring the network as we cross over the fork point and for several hours following... then the real fun starts as we push into marketing the services, building demos / flows / adding enhancements and changes in line with some of the items JohnDorien was mentioning, etc. We'll also post an update on the Moolah situation sometime tomorrow, we're really focusing on the network / stability / performance tonight but Moolah is proving us with everything we need in this interim period although they do still hold the majority of the funds this isn't slowing down any progress.
502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MANDATORY UPDATE] Syscoin - Business on the Blockchain on: August 28, 2014, 06:13:46 PM
I am just guessing that it makes sense to fix all major issues (like now, with the v1.4 release) then verify
that everything is stable & works, write down the details of the roadmap so it is easy to communicate
and *then* start to make a lot of PR.
Doing the PR while busy fixing things does not make sense - when new people come and see that it does not work yet, they will run and not come back, you have only one chance for a good first impression. So, the timing of the Chinese exchange is almost perfect.
Hope that Sys will show itself stable and without major bugs, so following releases can focus on adding back in the features in the roadmap.
That is why I am HODLing my sys, would consider buying if I had unallocated BTC.
I think the Devs were right in focus on full-out dev work until 1.4 release, now they can spread attention to other things.
Cheers for the devs!

Just wanted to quote this as it is SPOT ON. We have not heavily pushed marketing yet for the exact reason called out here- we had to stabilize things before we started telling everyone to come check it out- you only get one shot at a good impression and with the launch issues we had, we are being extremely careful before doing a major PR push. Its been almost 24hrs since the 0.1.4 rollout now and the network is much, much more stable. We will crossover the mergedmine+regen hardfork tonight at block 17k, once that is past and all is well we can start pushing PR hard.

We have plenty to market first. Four features coming out of the gate and we'll be pushing the market feature first! Developers are already interacting with this and we want to support that and help take it to the next level.

We know the value of PR, we also know first impressions are a one shot deal - doubley so in crypto! Want to thank everyone for the patience as we try to do this right, its not an overnight thing- this is a long term effort and we are committed to doing it right. I know it seems like a slow play here but hopefully people see its measured steps- we are working very hard every single day.

Our official block explorer is updated too btw Smiley as are all exchanges of which we're aware!  Grin

are all the merged mining pools starting at block 17000 or just simpledoge.com?

All merged pools; merged mining is disabled until this block height so that we can allow the network to properly update fully. Because of timezones we want to let everyone have plenty of time to move to the new client before merged mining and the new rewards kick in.
507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Syscoin - Business on the Blockchain on: August 28, 2014, 05:15:36 AM
Transferred 25k from Mintpal at 22:00 EST in 1.3 wallet. 25K received in 1.3 wallet and confirmed.
Upgraded to 1.4 wallet minutes ago. 25K now unconfirmed. Wallet on current block. Also new receive address with 1.4 wallet?
Will 25k confirm?
Thanks for the help. Regards

Did you happen to backup your wallet.dat file before you upgraded?

No. Not this upgrade.

Replied to your PM asking for some more info. Just another reminder that payments sent to/from exchanges that have not yet upgraded will not show up in your wallet yet. Please wait for them to update.

Forum page 1 needs updated to reflect V 1.4 for wallet. Still reads V 1.3

Thanks, doing that right now!

So far things are looking good we've been monitoring the network since the rollout. While most exchanges still need to update pools have been doing well and the wallet is working well for everyone. We will continue to monitor the network across the forkpoint at block 17k after which we'll begin to refocus efforts on parallel development of trustless escrow (roadmap feature) and QT wallet UI updates and improvements.

Please note our official block explorer (and the unofficial explorer) has not yet been upgraded as of this posting but the admin should be updating it ASAP. If you aren't seeing things there that is why.
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Syscoin - Business on the Blockchain on: August 28, 2014, 02:30:26 AM
In the For What It's worth department

about 15 minutes ago I transferred 1 coin from my new wallet to my account on Mintpal

15 minutes later ... it has not shown up yet....

that's not to say it won't soon, but it has not in 15 minutes.

Smiley

Its fine Mintpal just needs to update. I was speaking with them prior to the release but it might have gotten too late. Soon as they are updated your coins will be there, I don't have clarity on if they are fully updated or not but will reach out to them.

This applies to all exchanges. Your coins will appear there after they have updated.

We have also reached out to the operator of our block explorer and asked them to update as well, should be completed soon.

Dan - exactly how does the Service Fee Regen work?

thanks in advance

Syscoin charges users a "service fee" for the various services the coin provides- aliases, offers, data, and certificates. In 0.1.0 - 0.1.3 these fees were "burned" meaning that the number of coins in circulation was actively being reduced. In 0.1.4 moving forward (starting at block 17k) these fees are "regenerated" back to miners on 2 moving averages outlined in the whitepaper (which I need to add to this new OP sry).

What this means is larger block rewards for miners without increasing the amount of coins in circulation or changing the max-coins at all.  Smiley

Everything is working. How do i merge mine now?

Yes I'm wondering the same thing?

Merged mining works by taking the "work" done to solve a block on a different scrypt coin- lets say Litecoin in this case - and reusing that "work" to solve Syscoin blocks. This effectively nets the miner 2 coins for the "work" of one. You can see how this will not only increase the network hashrate exponentially, its also more cost effective for miners and improves the distribution of Syscoin in general.

Dan? Are you eMunie DEV?

Nope, Syscoin and only Syscoin for me Smiley

Everything is ready we are just in a holding pattern til the supernode operator comes back... should not be long. Will continue to keep people updated. Join #syscoin IRC for realtime updates. Again, sorry for this delay.
Fuck I wish I knew what you were talking about.
Thanks for the update.

In short the supernode (aka DNS Seed) is what the wallet connects to first in order to find other nodes. This makes it so that you don't have to add nodes or mess with configuration files. It is critical that this supernode always be on the latest codebase or forks and failure-to-sync can occur.

We are waiting for the supernode operator to return. If we do not have contact from them by 9pm EDT we will attempt a workaround. Will keep everyone updated.

The 0.1.4 UPDATE HAS BEEN SLIGHTLY DELAYED AS WE WAIT FOR OUR NODES TO UPDATE. PLEASE STAND BY, WE ESTIMATE LESS THAN AN HOUR BEFORE BINARIES ARE PUBLIC

Nothing bad has happened, we're just waiting so that this is done proper. We will post the new binaries and let people know when "master" on github is ready to update from momentarily. Thanks for your patience.

@snipsnoop: OK for the moderation and all, but this thread had like 11pages last time I checked. Arent you a little trigger happy? There was some good posts here, about the market, price and all that. That was not the fud. People should talk in the thread.

Will reply to this one later. Sorry just getting close to the update..

I see a few paid FUD's showed up already..  Roll Eyes

Quick suggestion... on the old thread on post #1 at the very top before anything put a notice and link to the new thread, that way any new folks don't have to read through all that to find the new one.

Done! Great suggestion thank you.

I like the new thread.
Less FUD and an "all" button.

Could the developers please explain what happened at launch?

There is something that I really didn't like (even though it was mostly my fault). I got a nickname and the moment I got it, with no warning, a large amount of SYS just vanished from my wallet!

Poof! See you later!

Was the fee mistakenly high?

Is there a way to code a warning before creating a nick about the fees?

I can see other people doing the same mistake in the future so I'd like it fixed.

Korean is correct these are fees associated with your purchase of an alias and an improvement we know is needed: https://github.com/syscoin/syscoin/issues/103

We are prepping the 0.1.4 release. Will have another post shortly with news on the goodness thats coming.  Grin

Who's JohnDorien? Original Member of Team?

Nope he's just a dev who has realized the potential of the Syscoin APIs, is utilizing the tools the team has provided for developers to get started, has rolled up his sleeves and got to work  Smiley! I've talked with him on skype regarding some questions he had, and now he's even issued a pull request to SysMarket github Smiley more devs need to be proactive like this, it's a business opportunity!
