I just wanted to post a quick update to to the community to let them know what is going on- I know KittehCoin has been quiet lately but its just so that we can figure out how to make things work in the long term, we are working on improved marketing and a larger leadership group as announced in other posts. The system we are working on opening up is http://contribute.kittehcoin.info but we still need to test it to make sure it is easy for people to just come in and pick up a task. We are also discussing how to determine who should get logins to come and pick up a task- https://kittehcoin.info/forums/general-(non-client)-meow-talk/how-should-we-vat-validate-members-of-the-contribution-system-should-we/msg2768/#newEven though we have implemented KGW within KittehCoin we believe there are improvements that can be made on top of it and will see what we can do in that regard. We're also working on a sister-coin that can only be obtained by mining KittehCoin but we need to figure out the dynamics around this sister coin, a logo, and a name. We know it will be extremely scarce like 250k or 2.5mil total coins max. We also want to get stickers and tshirts made up but would like to have community contests for the designs, award people with MEOW etc. I'm trying to talk with the leadership board tomorrow so we can all get aligned on what's cooking for KittehCoin and then there will be more formal announcements once we've had a chance to discuss what's in the pipeline. Multi-pools are parasitic. They are an attack on a coin, plain and simple.
Your coin is defenseless from these attackers.
Could somebody elaborate on the risks that multipools bring? The price of the coin rises, it becomes more valuable to mine, all multipools start mining the coin, the markets are overflowed with coins? Is that it? Multipools come along and massively increase the hashrate of a coin, start instamining blocks and then immediately dump them onto the exchanges. They keep doing this until the difficultly retargets at which point they switch to a different coin leaving the original coin with a ridiculously high difficulty and a lower price so there is absolutely no incentive to mine it anymore. The original miners are then left with a woefully low hashrate vs the current difficulty meaning that blocks take forever to find and transactions start taking far too long. And when the diff finally gets back to normal there's absolutely nothing to stop the multipools coming back and doing it all over again. There's a reason why practically every coin nowadays has KGW as standard. Even KGW doesn't protect you. KGW sounds great in theory but it needs to be tweaked quite a bit. Dano is currently working on a unique algorithm to increase our defense against the multi pools. Yeah this is all spot on. Sorry I am slammed @ work this week but a 4day weekend coming up means extra time to work on kittehcoin. Basically KGW doesn't always work. Even when it does there are ways (and the MPs may have figured them out) to manipulate KGW so you get a low diff even with MP level mining power suddenly introduced. In any case we are working on a better solution that still involves block-by-block diff adjustments, even looking into if its possible to adjust difficulty on the fly within a block. Appreciate everyone who has posted the corrective information regarding adaptive-N, your comments about it being a hyped piece of coin marketing are spot on. It may have benefits in a year or two, but not now, not until scrypt asics are getting more widely produced. Even then it can be easily added to kittehcoin. We want to introduce more valuable innovations- that will bring new buyers as well as crypto enthusiasts who can see through things like adaptive-N scrypt hype. Added Cryptsy to OP! Just withdrew my deposits and profits. I did make a return, but at this point there are too many poker ponzi similarities for me to lose my bitcoins! I'd rather take the small loss in arb gains vs losing my BTC entirely. I can confirm I did recieve my entire investment + profits via withdraw about 2hrs after submitting the withdrawal.

A " marketing team" needs to be created. People need to be assigned tasks, (this person creates funny cat memes, this person posts on 4chan, this person to reddit, 9gag, etc etc) to get the word out and and create a buzz.
This is easier said than done when no one is getting paid.
The development team needs to go back to the drawing board and say; What has been done? and What can be done? What are other coins doing? What is no one doing? You can't exist in a vacuum. There is a world going on out there.
Saying "our coin is good and our coin will survive because there was no premine" is naive. A premine or IPO does not mean your coin won't survive. In fact having a development budget will help ensure it does thrive.
This may seem drastic but think about this:
What if the coin was relaunched as Kittehcoin 2.0 with adaptive scrypt-n to prevent multi-pools and asics?
This would prevent constant downward pressure from multi-pools autoselling.
You could create a trade-in like memorycoin or a burn-system like counterparty did where all MEOWS from 1.0 can be traded in for MEOWS from 2.0 so no one loses their stake.
Everyone would start at exactly the same place. But the coin would be stronger.
So easy to say, so much harder to do. You really think if we launch some "MEOW 2.0" anyone will trust it? What will happen to MEOW 1.0 if not traded in for 2.0? What are the specs of this MEOW 2.0? How would adaptive-N-Factor help at all? Asics are not our problem... Multpools are, adaptive N doesn't do anything for multipools. Also where will the marketing for MEOW 2.0 come from? How will MEOW 2.0 be explained relative to MEOW 1.0?.... "Well the original MEOW became too cheap and its spec was broken to start with, we fixed it and we added KGW... but then the value got low so we decided to make another one... its ok though, you can trade in your cheap 1.0 MEOW for 2.0 MEOW"? To get a real "coin marketing team" in the sense people want it will cost money- real money. PMs from marketers have put this in the 5-10BTC range. If the community wants to help raise those funds, we will gladly use them to hire a "real" marketing team that can do nothing but pump the coin 24/7. If we want to do this, I'm all for it. i can setup a community wallet for donations, soon as we get to the target cost of the team (I'm talking about marketers like @ThisWeeksCoin and the likes) we'll make the payment, and we'll make sure the marketing team is "known" to the community so that they can voice their reactions to the marketing teams "work". We need more actual involvement from the community, and less talk about what WE (the devs) need to do. This is an open source project. This is an international community. Why hasn't our community done more to help the coin grow and succeed? And when we add features or services requested by the community, why does no one use them? We are still hard at work on this coin, but to correct the issue with the value it is really a community effort. We need more people who will actually DO STUFF, instead of just complain about stuff and be negative. We are testing http://contribute.kittehcoin.info for this exact purpose (community contribution). This will allow people to easily dip in and help kittehcoin out- development, marketing, ideas, etc. I see no reason for people to be waiting on this though, they could easily be tweeting about MEOW, blogging about it, posting items for sale using MEOW on AllSoS.com, turning friends on to it, posting memes, yet when I search kittehcoin on twitter I see my own posts, and those of the core early adopters. Post on twitter. Post on Facebook. Post on Google+. Post on forums. I'm not sure where you got the idea we just cloned a coin and were "operating in a vacuum, having no premine isn't enough"? Our news updates have made constant references to these coin innovations. Just cause we didn't choose to implement the overhyped-PoW-of-the-moment called Adaptive-N Scrypt doesn't mean we aren't implementing core coin innovations. But then it all goes back to marketing. We could revolutionize crypto but without marketing where are we? Look at Aurora coin, they have done nothing revolutionary at all, they did something niche and somewhat kitchy and look at its value. I'm sure it'll drop like a rock in 9 days when they "airdrop" or whatever but there isn't anything innovative about what they have implemented. Yet look at that value. All marketing. |

Why Kitteh and not Kitten?
"Kitteh" plays on the meme so we can have some fun with the coin (a rare chance to mix "work" with play)- its really not even just the kitteh meme we love all kitteh/cat memes in general. It started as just fun meme stuff, then it got a lil popular. Now we're doing more serious crypto stuff like looking at how we can merge aspects of namecoin into litecoin (within kittehcoin), as well as develop a better diff algo than KGW... in parallel with the meme-fun stuff |

I have been sick the past week (but so has BTC!) and it has clearly had an impact on MEOW value. The reality of the situation is that KittehCoin is now a global currency, people around the world are buying and selling the coin and thus questions and concerns about it materialize 24/7. I have a job, as do others, a fiance (soon to be wife later this year) and I know others are in similar situations. I don't want my getting sick for a week to impact the value of MEOW so dramatically. Additionally, I want more people to be involved at a leadership level to know what I know, and be able to provide additional perspective as to the direction of KittehCoin and how best to pivot or react to the market and the community. KittehCoin is in a huge position to grow, we are on a lot of exchanges and we have the support of the community, we need to keep this momentum going and its hard to do with our current leadership structure. Benefits of a decentralized leadership: - Leadership is available to the community much more readily, because there are more people involved
- Leadership being spread across time zones allows for 24/7 response
- Having more people in the know about plans can change plans, alter roadmap- more ideas are always better than one single point of vision
- Availability, if one of us has to take off for a bit, there is still a core leadership group to keep things rollin in kittehcoin land
- Democratic decisions at the highest level
In addition to forming a leadership board, I want to split the dev team into those who spend a real large amount of time on kittehcoin/IRC into the real "dev team" and the others can become "contributors". Having this "contributor" title allows us to onboard additional help for MEOW without actually increasing the core team size to the point where it becomes unmanageable. I'm also setting up a task management system. It has internal chat, and tons of other features that will help keep us on track and keep everyone informed. I think this will be very good for KittehCoin in the long run. Sorry I've been away, but I'm back! and I'm making changes to avoid the negative impacts my absence had from occurring again. There are so many things we have in the works that it is unfair for my absence to halt everything so dramatically. We are determining who will be on the leadership board right now and I will have an announcement coming out this week listing the members of the board after we have our first meeting. I will also share some news on what we are working on at that time after I have had a chance to sync the rest of the board on these items. I am striving for international representation on the board, or at the very least representation from both sides of the pond so the Kitteh questions and development can keep rolling around the clock. If you have any questions please post them here and not in other kittehcoin threads. In the future we may move to posting our news updates on our official tumblr rather than on BCT in markdown format. We'd then post an announcement thread as usual on BCT with a link to the blog post rather than the full post content. We'd include key excerpts on BCT, but we'd like to centralize KittehCoin news and improve its formatting for all devices on which it may be viewed. TL;DR;- I was sick for the last week, leading to the "quiet period" - I am reorganizing leadership and the team as a whole to be more a "board of directors" leadership structure rather than a single point of leadership - We will have different tiers of developer-engagement allowing "contributors" to participate in the task management system and get additional help from other kitteh-contributors looking to help out. - May be centralizing news announcements to our new official tumblr |

We had to switch up our iOS approach (similar to DOGE) to meet their new rules, we will be on there soon but their change in TOS def delayed our release there.
Unlike DOGE iOS wallet though we have plans to enable coin send/receive on iOS, I'm working on an Android wallet as soon as I get clear of some of this admin work.

Yeesh I'm down w/flu for 4 days and everyone goes crazy and starts dumping! You fools! Nah I'm kidding (sort of  ) I told people I was sick. We are working on putting together some news for before the end of the weekend to help mitigate these types of situations where my absence leads to everyone getting all scared and selling for stupid prices (although I'm buying since there was no premine and I could use some coin for all this hard work). There is a lot of stuff we are working on, the breadth of which goes beyond just services to coin innovations as I have mentioned and actually its a few coin innovations at this point. The problem is that we are busy in our day lives so something that would take 8hrs to code/test/release ends up taking 8 days or more if you just have 1hr a day to work on it. We have all this stuff staged up and to see people dumping for such low prices is amazing. Expect more news before the end of the weekend (USA EST) in the forms of an official announcement. |
