521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [DATACOIN] Brainstorming - Giveaway! on: December 13, 2013, 01:57:55 PM
thanks

Dkulak, I don't think that it helps now.

I'd like to see something on the DataCoin web-site about CPU-only coins and how it is that those coins can't (or can't easily) be mined by GPU. I unfortunately don't really understand the difference between CPU-mined coins and GPU coins.

Also, I don't see anything in the wallet program regarding the file upload. Perhaps the key feature of the coin would be more usable if a person could just use the QT GUI to select a file on their hard drive to upload.

CPU-only means that there are [still] no GPU ports, or there exists port, but GPU is inprofitable comparing with CPU.

File upload will be added soon, I also told about it. I want to work at that maybe today or during weekend, if I am succeed at that, I'll post unofficial wallet with data transfer feature. Also you can go to https://krypte.net and test this feature online.

bump - we still need more ideas and still want to pay for them!  Cheesy
525  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: December 13, 2013, 09:34:06 AM
Whats the maximum number of Datacoins generated?
2 billions. But now reward is ~10 DTC, so near 15K DTC per day, and this number goes down all the time. So if we take average as 10K DTC per day, only 3.65 millions DTC will be generated per year. So you can see that it will take centuries to mine'em all Cheesy
BTW there are plans to reduce total number of DTC, but they are still plans.
526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [WTB] Dogecoin, 0.1 BTC or 360 QRK on: December 13, 2013, 09:26:32 AM
Subj. How many DOGE can you offer me for 0.1BTC or 360 QRK?

In regards to the "noob" post, an easy append to the client would be reinstating the mining button. It is understandable why it was removed from SHA-256 and Scrypt coins, but CPU PoW systems should have the system available, would make it more noob-friendly.
Agree with you completely. I'll try to release 'noob-friendly' wallet soon Smiley

1. Develop an advertising system which the user can advertise their product or website
2.Client joins the trading function real-time transaction

What do you mean, advertisements in DTC blockchain?

An offline synchronization, which is upgraded daily in some server in order to download it directly from the wallet. That would improve much faster.

I also thought about this, it always annoys me when I need to download 100MB file for an hour-two (with 6Mbit bandwidth)

All I think that you should have to add is an exchange and a converter. Thanks.

Value in USD can be seen here now: http://www.chainbrowser.com/datacoin/

I do not want to offend you with my comment, it is not my intention, but rather the opposite.
Many times we need ideas to keep the illusion and strength, but that usually does not let us see the weaknesses we have. You know better than anyone else what, it is good to stop and reflect, improve and let the ideas come to intución itself later. If you want to grow in the project, be patient. In my opinion this is the best idea .. Patience!

Nothing offensive here, we know weaknesses of our project and working hard to fix all of them. Smiley Ideas are for future, and also for independent developers who wants to create 'something' for Datacoin, but doesn't now what exactly to implement. This thread is, in fact, source for multiple startups.

Non related to coin development, but ideaas/apps related to data.
1. Award big bounty to anyone who can dedicate and come up with the next generation compression algorithm that compresses data more than the existing compression algorithms. For example, 7z, winzip for file compression, image compression, db compression etc., It takes time for developers to work. It will help fuel datacoins worldwide.
2. Ask people to come up with great internet technologies related to encryption, decryption, security and award them the coins.
3. Try to create dtc/usd exchange if possible.
4. Ask designers to pictorically explain or represent datacoins and award them.
5. Continue the brainstorm giveaway, read it atleast 2 times a day. Provide constructive feedback to every contributor. This will add good relationship to the community. Don't miss to offer atleast a coin to everyone responds you.
(1), (2) - need to think about it, (3) - we want to do this in not far future. (4) - it is in progress, here comes infographics and several simple articles for non-technical people - will be published today or tomorrow. (5) - of course. I read it several times a day, and always rewarding everyone for any idea, even very small one. Thanks for feedback!

You need to keep DTC in news articles and blogs everywhere if you could get some mentions in the NYT or CNN it would be big for DTC. Everyone heres about BTC everywhere because of the news but if you could get some of that publicity you could easily increase the amount of people on DTC exponentially. You could put up a bounty for people to write articles for the news or their blogs if they have a large amount of followers. I know that you have a bounty out for promotion but you could put some bigger bounties on a specific news article or blog post. Just an idea...

we're working at that with our promoters.

Help! I'm a noob
- need a help option in the menue for all my questions, no readme, no howto, nothing in any downloaded wallet.
- need more infos about stand alone cpu mining
- need a wallet.dat file on an extern usb-stick, this file must be outside my pc

Cool idea, very simple to implement, but sometimes developers are not thinking about this Smiley I can work at that myself if I have time to compile Datacoin-QT today.

Coins will be sent to everyone in ~10-20 minutes!

529  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][DTC]Datacoin Bounties Thread! on: December 12, 2013, 09:14:22 PM
Just to let people know (those who dont i mean), datacoin is traded on bter.com. Such a shame this isnt on cryptsy yet.

Just in case anyone is feeling generous Smiley
D5TQpW7ripsp7kNmhLruK4uFGqBXhNXSam

Either way, free bump, this is 1 coin i am definitely keeping an eye on !

MEPH
Cryptsy has a lot of problems now, but admins told that Datacoin can be added very soon. I think they want to fix all issues prior to adding new coins

What happens when something really dangerous is stored in the blockchain and lets say the Goverments want it out?

Is it possible to just ban Datacoin? Will people need to use tor? How easy is to stop Datacoin?
Answers are the same as for Bitcoin. If governments want, they can ban everything. But it is possible to organize getting\storing info from\to Datacoin if there is at least one country where it is not banned. Simple service working via I2P\Tor that has simple API for getting\storing data, that's it.

What is the community though about stuff like plastic gun blueprints, copyrighted stuff like movies and CP?

What i want to understand is what stops someone from trolling the whole coin by posting CP everywhere?

I answered this question many times. But now I have another argument. Do you use Bitcoin? Look here: http://www.btcpedia.com/ped0-links-in-bitcoin-blockchain/
so 2.5 Mb of Wikileaks can be only one piece. Are you sure that there are no 2.5Mb pictures or even short video with CP in Bitcoin?
It didn't stop anyone from using Bitcoin, and for Datacoin it should be the same.

i am asking because i am interested. i didnt know that about bitcoin. Interesting. But a new question came to my mind with your answer. If bitcoin can also do this why do we need datacoin? In what aspect it is better for storing data?

bitcoin is not designed for data storage, it needs a lot of non-trivial operations to store data in BTC blockchain. It's like - you can write web server using Assembler, but nobody does it, or creates very simple app just as proof-of-concept
yes, but someone created the python3 script for uploading+downloading data so its easy to upload/download to the btc chain. (wrt multisig)
People always complain about Bitcoin blockchain size. BTC was not designed for that, and it's not intended to be storage and currency for this storage. I think that it's not expedient - using Bitcoin as something that it was not created for.

535  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [DATACOIN] Brainstorming - Giveaway! on: December 12, 2013, 01:58:23 PM
I think datacoin should not reward only the computation power of miner, but the fact of storing the blockchain too.
Hashpower is important to secure the network, but datacoin is about storage, so the one who store the blockchain should get a cut.

Right now, the guy who mine a block get the block reward + all the fee.

Instead of going to the miner, the fee should be spread between all the blockchains.
Mining recquire to store the blockchain too, but the fee shouldn't reward pure hashpower, but storaging.

I would go even further :
I think the reward per block (currently ~10DTC) should be spread too, not only the fees. Like a 50/50 split, 5dtc to the miner and 5 dtc to blockchains

To not bloat the blockchain with a lot of tiny transaction and to create a more fair distribution, i think all those block reward and fee should go to a single neutral adress. Then after like 1 days (1440 block), this adress would automaticly redistribute equally the reward to all blockchains with 100% uptime for that day (1440 block).

It would probably recquire a hardfork, but this would ensure people have interest in storing the entire blockchain. Because in the near future, blockchain could grow big very quickly and people would only mine on a pool, without storing the blockchain, because it's the same reward right now.

tl,dr : Storage of the blockchain need to be rewarded

Great idea. Could you please PM it to oocook5u ?

That's fine, we understand.  Guess we should have given it a few days before submitting so you know it's not a scam. Smiley

We'll resubmit within the next few days, will try to promote it as much as possible to get the follower count up.

Thanks!

Good, keep me posted Smiley

Don't know if this has been made yet buy what if you created or had someone create an online converter from DTC to Bitcoin, USD, etc. it would be helpful to see how much the DTC is worth and would attract more users.

There was such suggestion here, and it can be implemented directly on the website

Does data coin have its own forum yet?

yes,
