Monero GUI has a box for the amount to be send. Right side of that box is a button "All". That button is better to be removed, so that no one will accidentally send all xmr.
That button is quite intuitive in my opinion. Furthermore, there is a confirmation window thereafter that'll show the amount.

@sgjenks01: Can you check the GUI wallet folder (Documents\Monero on Windows | ~/Monero on Linux and Mac OS X) and see whether your withdraw address is in any of the <wallet-name>.address.txt files? Then you'll know which wallet you had open in the past.

I found a .keys file with a date stamp from May, which is when I would have set up the wallet. When I used the wallet name to start wallet-cli, it asked for a password and I gave it the password I had used in May and the wallet opened, showing no balance. I tried rescan_bc and it came back with zero balance.
Unless you have another idea, I think I'm sunk.
OK, here are some theories of what might have happened: 1. Maybe someone got hold of your wallet file or seed and withdrew your monero from your wallet. (people get hacked from time to time) When you typed rescan_bc, did you see funds coming in and then going out? Each transaction will be listed one per line, with incoming funds as green and outgoing funds as purple. Each line will have the block number, from which you can tell when that transaction took place. 2. Maybe you have another wallet, that's saved in a different folder. Issue a search in all your drives for .keys files (and don't forget to include hidden folders in the search) 3. Maybe there's something wrong with your daemon or your blockchain copy. In the monerod window type 'diff' and post here the number it outputs for BH. You said earlier something about a mnemonic seed. Do you still have it? To add, you can use show_transfers in monero-wallet-cli to get a list of your incoming and outgoing transactions.

I'm not sure if this is where to post my question, but here goes: I created and deposited Monero into a wallet months ago. I decided to update my wallet software, but when I give it my 25 word seed, it opens with nothing in the wallet. What am I doing wrong?
What did you enter as restore height?

Thanks, your answer gave me the important hint to what might be the problem. I had always started the daemon prior via a .bat to make sure it loads the blockchain to my external drive. However I didn't update the bat to point to the new files I had just installed!
It is now synchronizing! Very slowly, 20 blocks per second, but still...
You're welcome and let me know if you incur any further issues.

Thanks again. Not too difficult actually. However I still seem stuck @ -49486 blocks (I restarted both, Daemon and gui and am now stuck @49535). Here is the output of monerd running with for that extra information. To be clear, that's version 0.11.1.0 right? If so, try these steps: 1. Exit the daemon by typing "exit". 2. Exit the GUI as well. 3. Open a new command prompt from the same directory as monerod. This is done by first making sure your cursor isn't located on any of the files and subsequently pressing SHIFT + right click. It will give you an option to "Open command window here". 4. Now type the following command -> monero-blockchain-import.exe --pop-blocks 5000 5. If your blockchain isn't located in the default directory, you have to add the --data-dir flag as well. Thus -> monero-blockchain-import.exe --pop-blocks 5000 --data-dir path\to\your\blockchain 6. Open monerod.exe by double clicking on it. 7. Check, using the status command, whether it syncs past block 1400001 now.

Hey folks, about 16h ago I made XMR transaction. Unfortunatelly the recipient is still waiting for it to arrive. My Monero-wallet displays BlockHeight 0 for that tx. I tried and it seemed to cancle the tx. However I tried to send the transaction again and it is again stuck with a BlockHeight 0. Any suggestion on how to solve this? Thanks, Kryptowerk Few questions first: 1. Are you using the GUI or CLI? 2. Which version are you using? 3. If you're using the CLI, can you type "status" (without the quotation marks) into monerod and post the output here. 4. If you're using the GUI, can you go to the Settings page and press on "Show status". Subsequently, post the output here. 5. Can you find your transaction hash / ID on a block explorer? Thank you for the efforts. It seems I am using an outdated version. The reason why didn't suspect this was bcause my monero daemon said "synchronised with the network" and the client also displayed "connected". However after running it for two hours in the background now, it is stuck @block 1400001. 1) GUI 2) GUI version: 13253c3 embedded monero version: dd580d7 3) typing status into monerod confirmed it was stuck @block 1400001 and gave me a nice "update needed" info 4) I don't see a "show status" button anywhere (?) 5) nope, https://moneroblocks.info doesn't find it, but I guess it's impossible anyway to broadcast a transaction when my blockchain isn't fully synced? My question now is: Can I just download the latest monero gui and replace the old files? Thank you very much! You're most likely running v0.10.3.1 (which is incompatible) if it's stuck on block 1400001. Can you first update your client? https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/6390/how-do-i-upgrade-my-software-to-v0-11-1-0^ These steps are applicable to upgrading from an older version than 0.11.0.0 as well.

Thanks, Kryptowerk If worst comes to worse you could always delete everything other than ~/.bitmonero/lmdb/ and start from scratch. That would surely fix it . Please don't follow this. It's excessive and should only be tried as last resort. Besides, it might not even fix his issue.

There's the --db-salvage flag, which has to be applied to monerod.exe from the command line, but it's unlikely that it'll "uncorrupt" your blockchain. However, if you'd like to give it a shot, it's done as follows.
1. Exit the GUI and make sure to close the daemon as well.
2. Browse to the directory monero-wallet-gui.exe is located.
3. Open a new command prompt. This is done by first making sure your cursor isn't located on any of the files and subsequently doing SHIFT + right click. It will give you an option to "Open command window here".
4. Now type -> monerod.exe --db-salvage
5. If that doesn't work, you, unfortunately have to resync from scratch. A resync is easily triggered by deleting C:\ProgramData\bitmonero.
Whilst you're syncing the blockchain using the daemon (monerod.exe), always make sure to exit it gracefully. If you're using the CLI, this is done by simply typing "exit" into monerod.exe. In addition, if you're using the GUI, simply click on the x to close the GUI and make sure to close the daemon as well.
Thanks dEBRUYNE for the fast response! Unfortunately now luck with the --db-salvage flag, so re-syncing, new ssd drive so much faster than my old hdd. I did not perform a forced exit from the daemon, just left it running on a machine and used the save command regularly - then when i went back to check it several hours later the daemon had just closed and would not re-initialize, would this just be a glitch? or is there anything i could check to stop it happening again? Cheers Are you sure your system didn't perform an automatic restart because of some updates? or is there anything i could check to stop it happening again Make sure to check whether there are any automatic restarts queued, because Windows will just ignore any program that is running and force quit it. P.S. An SSD is significantly faster than an HDD with respect to syncing. Thus, if possible, always make sure to sync it to an SSD.

Those were meant for someone else and they were stated in a separate message. You merely had to follow this and restart the GUI + daemon: https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/3086/how-to-change-location-of-the-blockchain-with-monero-guiHopefully your blockchain is not corrupted now. Could you start your GUI, go to the Settings page, and press Show status? Subsequently, paste the output here.

ive tried this. the chain is now safed at the directory i ve chosen but the space on the other hard drive is still decreasing. dont know what it is. is there any alternative wallet availabe (maybe web based) you do recommend? You're better off trusting a remote node than a web wallet IMHO https://getmonero.org/resources/user-guides/remote_node_gui.htmlHe's using the official GUI, not a web wallet. If he were though, I'd have agreed with you. I misread, my bad.
