521  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Relying on gamble wins is dangerous to mental health on: October 13, 2023, 05:44:30 PM
Your friend is like a textbook loser. He's that guy who doesn't understand the game. Does he start spending the money right after buying a lottery ticket and planning his holidays and purchases?

I know people like that. They don't understand a simple outcome. They want to ask a girl out and they already expect her to say yes and think of how they'll go to this or that place and then she says no and he's shocked like it's an impossible outcome. Dude, you had 50% chance, maybe even less! If you saw him you'd say less for sure Cheesy

I'm a pessimist so it's easy for me. Every time I go somewhere, plan for something, I always plan for the negative outcome. That's why when I applied to the university, I actually applied to 3 places with different level of requirements because I expected the worst case scenario, that first and second choices won't accept me. Same thing with gambling, when I bet money I expect to lose, but if I win I'll get even more happy because it's an unexpected win Wink
522  Economy / Gambling / Re: - UGA - a Gamblers Union on: October 13, 2023, 05:29:56 PM
You may have good intentions but I doubt if it's going to work because, in reality, it's hard to bind gamblers have you seen a big Gamblers union offline I don't think there exists, there's such a thing as a club but I doubt if it's possible to establish a Union, and how do you manage it by asking fee so they can fight their cause in case they lose and they lose because of their addiction and they just want to recover their losses, your intention is good but you're going to face many issues that gamblers are the one bringing.

For people to join such club they'd need some common goal, some benefit of this whole thing. Like a book reader's club shares reviews of books they read and recommend them to others. They also lend books to each other, so both these things make members of the club waste less time on bad titles and less money on books other members can give them for free.
What would a gambling club member benefit from? The club would have to be able get exclusive bonuses, tournament invites, maybe deals to test new features of existing sites for a pay.
If you want to share stories, you can do it here.
523  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cross addictions is Just as Bad. on: October 12, 2023, 07:17:27 PM
Well I told him that this is basically cross addiction and what that mutual friend is trying to do is like running away from the truth. Not wanting to face the core issue. So he is justify spending $20 and not on slots when both are unhealthy addictions that can have far reaching consequences. He just has to sit and face his addiction head on without looking for a replacement addiction which is just as bad.

You're right, he's trying to occupy his mind with an activity. It's normal behavior for people with trauma or problems. Kids often run away from school and watch TV or play computer games all day like zombies because that makes them forget about passing time. Men left by their wives start drinking because when they're drunk they don't think and don't feel pain.
If he was losing money gambling it's better that he plays games, but that makes him waste a lot of time. He's going to miss that time one day and hope he did something constructive, like learn some trade, read books, get a job. in 10 years nobody is going to care that he was level 200 in some MMO game.
524  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Fun] Bitcoin price could hit $750K to $1M by 2026 on: October 12, 2023, 07:08:09 PM
You know what's even funnier than shooting the numbers that someone likes on which day? The fact that the discussion on this topic has already been posted on this board few days ago...

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5469311.0

You're right, but since we went so far in this secondary thread we might as well keep going Cheesy

Short summary:
-Hayes had some bad predictions in the past
-2026 ATH could only happen if we break the pattern and the bull market lasts for 2.5-3 years
-the above date would mean no more 4 year cycles, unless he expects only 1 year of bear market to follow
-Even in my wildest dreams 1m bitcoin comes in 2 cycles, so by 2030
-Even 750k this time looks impossible, since we'd need an enormous demand and liquidity shortage for that

If we really have 2m bitcoin on exchanges and we get all ETFs approved all at once, we could get to 300k maybe. Then all the crazy people will go reverse FOMO and dump all the coins they were hodling since 2019 Cheesy
525  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Is Better Than Digital Gold on: October 12, 2023, 06:52:19 PM
Actually gold is a consider more precious than anything from past therefore nothing can take place of it. I agreed that bitcoin is also providing passive income to lots of people but popularity of gold is more than bitcoin.

I'd argue that if bitcoin was around as long as gold it would be much more popular.
We really can't compare these things if people used one of them as money and store of value for centuries an and the other one is known for less than 15 years.

I see bitcoin as something better than gold. I wouldn't call it a better digital gold because we don't have digital gold yet, so I guess that's going a bit too far, but if we agree that bitcoin works as a store of value, it's better because it's easily divisible, while gold isn't. You have a piece worth $1k, you can't divide it between 2 people, but you can do it with bitcoin and you can do it the way that everybody will trust, since bitcoin is verifiable. Try to verify gold on your own and you'll see that it's not that easy.
526  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Up Move Incoming on: October 11, 2023, 07:45:16 PM
How do you explain if your forecast doesn't come true? How will you justify yourself?

Does he really have to? These are predictions, not promises.

Did Tom Lee justify himself after his prediction for 2018? He was expecting 25k at 10k and bitcoin went down toward 5k so he was like 5x wrong. Pretty much like if you'd say now that bitcoin is going to 60k this year and instead it went to 16k Cheesy
All those smartasses like McGlone who in 2021 said that bitcoin is going to 100k but it went to 30k instead and then lower... Now the same guy is telling everyone that bitcoin will crash below 20k once more this year and some poor souls believe him because they don't care how wrong he was before. It's here and now that counts for them.

Interesting formation today is the peak fell from the 200 day average to meet the 50 day average below,  if we remain in that gap bouncing between them I think it remains quite a bullish setup.

Pretty normal if you ask me. We'll need something big to move above the 200 like an ETF approval, Gensler being kicked out of his chair, a FED pivot, or something like that.
Some of these will eventually happen, just a matter of time.
527  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can Israeli - Palestinian conflict worsen the crisis? on: October 11, 2023, 07:12:05 PM
They use a combination of a couple of tactics to overwhelm the enemy, apart from the launching of large number of projectiles, drones are also used to hunt down the defense batteries and radars directly and at the same time a large scale cyber attack is perform against the entire cyber infrastructure of the Zionist regime that includes the air defense (radars, Iron Dome, David's sling, etc) to disable or disrupt them.

Gone are the days that all Palestinians had against the heavily armored enemies were stones.

Probably also mortars as the Iron Dome reacts to them as well. Mortar shells are very cheap and can easily overwhelm the defensive system.

Russia portrays Ukrainians as Neo-Nazi and itself as the liberator who murdered German Nazis in WWII, who tried to exterminate Jews.
Believe it or not, many people from post-soviet countries hate Russia so much that if you ask them, they wish Germany had won the war because now we would be as developed as them and would live the same life. <-- This is not my argument or opinion, I just express how many people from post-soviet countries think. This means something, this shows you why Ukraine doesn't want Russia and fights to join Europe.

They must be stupid because it's obviously better the Nazi Germany did not win. The perfect situation for these countries would be liberation by Allied forces and no annexation to the Soviet Union, but out of 2 possible outcomes, I'm pretty sure being part of the CCCP was better than being sent to concentration camps, locked in ghettos and murdered in gas chambers.
Had Stalin died in 1945, Russia would be in a state of chaos and fight for leadership and wouldn't have enough dominance in Potsdam to force its desired borders upon other countries.
Unfortunately, that ideal outcome did not happen.
528  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hal Finney: each coin a value of about $10 million prophecy on: October 11, 2023, 06:55:10 PM
You know what? Hal's story taught me something and that's to value your time here on Earth, spend it with your loved ones. If he could only see what Bitcoin has become, maybe live until 2030, but no.
So, maybe bitcoin will reach this level of adoption in 2030, maybe in 2035, but what if you are no longer here to witness it? What if you are, but die a year or 2 later, without really being able to experience the wealth you've gained over the years?

It's important to first live your life, have fun, spend time with family. Don't get carried away by dreams of wealth that bitcoin can provide. This should always come second, third, or even fourth.
Would you rather have billions in bitcoin and die a few months later, or have no bitcoin at all but live for another 10 years?

I know that bitcoin will one day be worth a lot of money. Don't know if it's going to be 1 million or 10 million, but I don't focus on it and live my life as I used to 10 years ago when I had no bitcoin at all.
529  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Has anyone encountered any dog race betting here? on: October 10, 2023, 06:14:10 PM
I have heard about horse racing but never heard about the dog racing. Can you tell where these races take place?

Even if they do take place in some part of the world, i never witness any odds being offered for such games on the online gambling sites. You saw this in the movie but we know that things shown in movies are fiction and not the reality.

Really? You haven't heard of these racing tracks where a fake bunny is moved along the track for dogs to chase it?
I've seen this even in the movies.

It was popular in England and the US in the 80s, but since animal activists targeted it, the sport is in decline.

A racing association found that betting on greyhounds plunged from $3.5 billion in 1991 to about $500 million in 2014. Since then, many more tracks have closed.

530  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Don't Stand With Either Palestine Or Israel on: October 10, 2023, 01:53:17 PM
If they read your post they'd laugh at you.

Imagine that someone enters your home and starts stealing from you. You ask them to leave, they don't do it. You hit them, they hit back.
Your neighbor sees you fighting and starts preaching to you both "you should love each other brothers, there should be no fighting." Would you both stop? I doubt it.

Ukrainians lost families and friends to Russians. They won't start loving Russian all of a sudden.
Palestinians lived every day knowing that Israelis have superior military power and will one day kill them all. They won't stop until there's no Gaza. It may take another decade or another century but the goal for Israel is to exterminate Hamas and make Gaza a part of their country.
531  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can Israeli - Palestinian conflict worsen the crisis? on: October 10, 2023, 01:38:39 PM
Iron Dome was probably designed for hundreds but not thousands of missiles. They can make a better system able to deal with thousands and the opposition will try ten thousand, it never ends. Actually, you can add drones now. Israel has way more military power than several other much larger countries, this is why any sort of "response" ends demolishing buildings and killing thousands of civilians.

A single missile costs $100k Hamas rockets are much cheaper. They use cheap Qassam rockets that can be manufactured with basic tools and cost less than $1k.
They also buy old Soviet Katyusha rockets and newer Grad and some modern ones supplied by Iran.

Each Iron Dome battery has 20 missiles loaded and needs time to reload.
According to Wikipedia Israelis have between 10 and 15 batteries deployed.

This means that at most, with full capacity and 100% accuracy, the system can stop 300 missiles.

Hamas claims to have launched 5000, but other sources say 2000 unguided rockets. There was no way to stop that many, which is why they launched all at once. They knew it would overpower the defense system.
532  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can Israeli - Palestinian conflict worsen the crisis? on: October 10, 2023, 01:19:28 PM
Meanwhile, US weapons provided as a military support to Ukraine ended up in hands of Hamas fighters: https://sputniknews.in/20231009/from-ukraine--afghanistan-to-middle-east-how-us-arms-ended-up-in-hamas-hands-4693015.html

Where is there any proof in the article to support that claim?

Quote
Russian officials have repeatedly pointed out that Ukraine has been selling weapons, received from Western countries, to third parties through the black market.

Because it's in their interest! They don't want US to supply weapons to Ukraine, so they will spread these rumors to decrease public support.
Further in the article they even say that these weapons could be the ones left behind by US forces.
533  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can Israeli - Palestinian conflict worsen the crisis? on: October 09, 2023, 05:07:19 PM
I find it interesting that Russia, who itself is an invader murdering civilians and bombing cities, supports another country that is currently being oppressed. When we lay siege, that's fine, but when another country does the same, we're against it. Freedom for the oppressed! Cheesy
Russia is just trying to play the field, putting pressure on US proxy in the region to put pressure on US. This caricature shows how Russia is seeing the situation better than I can explain: https://www.talkimg.com/image/RZ5Vv

Russia portrays Ukrainians as Neo-Nazi and itself as the liberator who murdered German Nazis in WWII, who tried to exterminate Jews.
Now Russians murder their brethren Ukrainians, who were part of the same Anti-Nazi Soviet force 35 years ago, because according to Russia, they're also Nazis. Moreover Russia supports Palestine against the same Jews it was fighting to save. Politics can really be confusing.

Also, why the fuck is Jewish army called Israeli Defense Force if all they do is attack neighboring territories and expand the borders?
534  Economy / Economics / Re: Marriage mean double your passive income, rental property mean double your passi on: October 09, 2023, 04:52:37 PM
"First rental property would fund your travel expense
Second rental fund your sport car
Third rental fund your private jet
Fourth rental fund your yacht
Fifth rental fund your private island
... and so on"

... Thought many Ukrainians before 2022 Cheesy
Now there's no properties and no jets. They and their sports cars are refugees in Poland Wink

Going blind into rental properties isn't the answer. You have to consider a number of things before you waste your money on a house.

I'd also change the quote a bit.
First property buys you nothing, it barely makes any money. I have a rental property and I had to spend 10k and put in some work to fix it before I was able to rent it out. Now after all the bills and taxes it pays about 1k a month. It's been 1.5 years so I've made about 5k profit from the whole thing. Mind you, a minimum wage job pays 20k a year.

If you had 2 properties like that and combined the profit, you'd be getting minimum wage income that would take years to buy a new sports car, unless you want a Miata or something like that.
535  Economy / Speculation / Re: BitMEX founder projects $750,000 to $1 million #Bitcoin price by 2026 on: October 06, 2023, 06:55:01 PM
Hayes is known for some bad predictions. He was even featured in an article about the worst bitcoin predictions ever, next to McAfee and Tom Lee. You can google it with ease.

Most of these people throw prices around to gain publicity and it works because as you can see news sites publish articles about it and we discuss it on the forum.
If this was someone credible with a lot of past experience, but this is an exchange owner who AFAIK had one good prediction in his life somewhere in 2019 when he said that bitcoin will climb up to 10k and then above it. Many people predicted a bull market to start in 2020 so this wasn't one of those unexpected predictions that allowed a few believers to make money.
536  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin millionaire: Lucky or possesses more qualities that we don't have. on: October 06, 2023, 06:46:14 PM
_ Emotional control: one of the most difficult thing is controlling your emotions while you watch your assets fluctuates greatly, mostly if it's going down, without you pulling the plug out of fear, so i believe it's one of the key they have.

One thing that's important to mention here is some of these millionaires don't watch the price fluctuate and I recommend you do the same, unless you're trying to actively trade your coins.
I don't trade so I rarely watch price. Sometimes I check it once a day after waking up, sometimes when I have a lot of work to do, I don't even look at it. Sometimes in the evening I eat dinner and realize I haven't checked the price for 24 hours.

For the record, I have a decent amount of bitcoin. Enough that 1% drop in price should matter, but it doesn't. I'm not a trader, I'm won't focus on this when I have no plans to sell my bitcoin.
537  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: October 06, 2023, 06:36:32 PM
Repairs for electric cars are easier. Much less moving parts.

Sure, because electric car manufacturers focus on replacing parts, not repairing them. They don't fix batteries, they replace them and charge you 25% of what a new car costs for that.
Also, this depends on what you're trying to fix since with electric cars if something doesn't work with the engine it's usually a big issue, not something they can repair in an hour.
Gasoline cars can face a lot of small issues, like spark plugs, battery replacement, worn out belts, that can be easily fixed.

Quote
The issues of bad are long time to fuel them up. A Tesla and a supercharger is over 20 minutes.

Even if you had a Tesla, how many superchargers are there in your area?
I have one, 10km from my house and google says it's going to take 15 min to get there. Nobody is going to drive 15 min to charge a car faster

Quote
I still see a fast fill up smaller pack that swaps in and out of cars as the best answer to speed up fill up time.

Other issues are flooding. If you car is on the street and floods the lithium battery could be damaged and explode. No fix in set for this as of now.

There are other annoying issues like the battery not holding charge in low temperatures.
538  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which games offer the best chance of a big win? on: October 06, 2023, 06:07:16 PM
In  general table games give you the best odds of winning and require the most skill. That said, slots give you the highest wins with the least money invested.
If you know how to play and are able to bet on high roller tables, you're going to see piles of money on the table.
In case of slots you don't need any skill and will most likely lose, but one in a few rounds you'll win 10x your bet, which doesn't happen in other games.
I can understand why most people chose this option in the poll.
539  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A Lady Cried After Losing to Sports Bet. Gambling is Not Your Mate. on: October 05, 2023, 06:46:18 PM
This reads a bit like "a child is crying after putting his hand into a boiling water."
Is this woman a child? Is she mentally challenged? I feel like these are some important questions one should ask.

Crying is a natural emotional response to feelings of loss and sadness so I wouldn’t fault the lady for crying about her loss. Posting about it on social media, perhaps In a bid to elicit some sort of sympathy is what I find annoying.
Perhaps, the prospects of having a win made her forget momentarily that losses also happen too which in this case, it did and obviously, she didn’t take it well.

Playing with funds that you can afford to lose as well as keeping in mind you could also incur a loss after playing helps. You win some, you lose some. There shouldn’t be any need to be dramatic about your loss.

You're right, I guess. Maybe she's being emotional, maybe that's how she handles stressful situations? I don't blame her for losing, nor do I blame her for crying.
She should seek support of her man or parents, or whoever close she has and calm down. Crying to random people on the Internet is not a way to get out of this because she'll get mixed responses and those negative ones are only going to make her feel worse.
540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is for everybody but we must accept it before it can be ours. on: October 05, 2023, 06:31:51 PM
Bitcoin Jesus is for everybody, but we all have to accept it him before it he can be ours so I conclude that we must first accept bitcoin Jesus before we can have access to it him and if you don't accept bitcoin Jesus you can't invest on it be a part of his church.

Is that a bitcoin sermon that you're preaching?
Accept bitcoin in your hearts so you can be a part of it?

Wise words my brother, Satoshi be with you! Cheesy

Jokes aside, bitcoin is not for everyone means that not all of us possess the basic skills to safely buy, hold and transact in bitcoin. It doesn't mean that it's restricted, or that we bitcoiners don't want everyone to have access to it. We aren't selfish (at least most of us because CSW is all but selfless, but some would argue that he's a shitcoiner).
