Never leave your ethernet cables like that.

Why?

Quick update on my card. I ordered it back in January and have had it inmy wallet ever since. As expected the card as bent slightly just from sitting on it but nothing bad. There is nearly zero wear marks, the qr code and all text is as clear as the day I got it.
Im very pleased with this purchase!

No word in his other groupbuys either. Unfortunate.
524  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HASHRA CONTROLA on Raspberry Pi for Gridseed on: May 09, 2014, 04:55:55 PM
I have 22 seeds connected. It seems to run fine for a few days and then will not allow me to login, although it continues mining just fine.
yea, that might be the problem. I don't know why but the pi becomes unstable when there are more than 20 miners connected to it. It's not logging in because it can't process the request properly. 20 should be ok though. I connected 25 on 1 pi once, I can log in, but the pi becomes horribly slow

i know I have seen you and others mention the 20 unit limit, i just assumed 22 would be fine. I'll try removing two and see what happens. I have a second pi but I wanted to run them all from one if possible.

Its odd how much processing power is required to manage miners. The pi is a fairly powerful system and you would think it can handle dishing out requests (or whatever it actually does). I have an older Core 2 Duo system with win7 and Bitcoin Core, solo mining with 7 Block Erupters and it brings that system to a halt! Its insanely slow while mining!

Thanks for the info tho, i'll give it a try!

what command do you use to reboot this thing? Im unable to login to the web interface an tried to reboot it via ssh. I tried sudo shutdown -r now and it says its shutting down but never does...

Good news Ladies & Gentleman…

We have now decided to release the SSH login details for the Gridseed Based products using the CONTROLA Firmware:

USER: pi

ENJOY!  Smiley

thank you!

I had the same issue in that I didnt like any of the tee shirts available. I could see myself wearing some of your shirts, you may be getting an order from me soon.  Smiley

They are not even seen by the rpi using the hashra image.
530  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: LightningAsic usb miners based Gridseed GC3355 Tech Support Thread on: April 20, 2014, 02:41:40 PM
Ive tried searching but did not read this entire thread, so if this is covered here I apologize.

Ive run into an issue with some of my gridseeds where I have no blinking red/green lights at all when powered on. The fan spins but the devices are not detected with Hashra. I had 18 units hashing away just fine and then added 10 more and ever since Ive had issues. Im still troubleshooting but it seems like the ones that dont work do not have any blinking lights. What should my next steps be? Cables look fine (USB and Power), USB hub is fine...
thanks!

Sounds like a problem with the power of the USB hub with powering on that many GS's, or a faulty USB cable or last a problem with daisychaining too much GS on a raspberry pi. Too deep so to say.

Its only those specific 6 that dont work, in any configuration. I tried only using 1 10port hub and got it working just fine with 10 seeds but as soon as I swap one of the good for one of the bad the bad doesnt work.

i know you said you have re-imaged multiple times, but have you used the same image file each time? Maybe thats the issue. Try re-downloading the file and go from there if you havnt already.

Thanks AmDD I will try that.  I am also buying some class 10 Sandisk 8gb cards to see if maybe I got a bad batch of NOOBS cards shipped with the Pi's...always a possibility.  Not much more I can try if that doesn't do the trick.

Anyone else having this issue with the Controla software or can I pretty safely say that I am having some type of hardware issue?  What is everyone using for USB hubs for 20 miners?

DOuble check that class 10 cards will work. I seem to remember back when the pis first came out that class 10 didnt work well. I could be wrong tho.

Im using 3 Rosewell powered hubs and have 22 seeds running on a single pi.

$50 shipped to Indiana for one?

Sorry, I thought I replied to this...

PM me a zip code so I can estimate shipping. No one else seems interested so I may take this offer.
535  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to feel refreshed even after too little sleep - and why you MUST.... on: April 09, 2014, 05:03:32 PM
I dont know if any of this actually holds any water but here goes...

I recall something about 'natural cycles' from my Psychology class in college. Something about every person has their own cycle that works best for them. My parents say when I was very young I would be awake for basically 3 days and then sleep for the 4th day. I would guess I did sleep some but not in large amounts. Then after I graduated high school I went off on my own and not having a job and trying to learn some programming. let me fall into this cycle again. I would stay up for 3 days at a time and then crash the 4th day. I felt fine doing it and actually got a lot of work done.
Food for thought.

Food for thought.
Sure is...I can go ~35 to 40 hours, but 3 days sounds extreme.

I felt fine doing it and actually got a lot of work done.
Aren't you tired and "foggy headed" after ~2 or 2.5 days?

Sorry for the delay in reply.

No doubt about it I was tired and day 3 I did slow down and have a foggy head at times. Im not saying everyone can do this or even that i could do it again but at the time it worked for me. Granted I also was not doing much physical labor but learning programming is pretty mentally draining.

This could be more common that you think, we just dont have the numbers to prove one way or the other simply because our society doesnt allow for people to try it. We are a "9 to 5" society for the most part.
536  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is it possible to use ASIC's computational power for something useful? on: April 08, 2014, 02:37:29 PM
Like I know this has been reiterated with BOINCcoin but I mean like you mine bitcoin, and its not spent trying to decrypt a sha256 hash sum, but rather fold proteins and what not. I mean an easy work around would be to fork primecoin to sha256 (if possible), and then bitcoin would be supporting the primecoin blockchain AND finding prime numbers.

Not possible. That would be like trying to find the sum of 23 and 17 as well as finding pi.

SHA256 ASICs can do one thing and one thing only, hash SHA256.

ASIC stands for Application Specific Integrated Circuit.

SHA256 is just encryption/decryption right? There must be people that need that kind of power, possible to rent 1 th/s of power not for mining, but like science purposes?

Could be possible I guess, but in doing that it would take away from Bitcoin mining. I dont think you could do both together.

Is it software or hardware thats the limiting factor?

I saw this weeks ago on TV and as soon as I saw it I looked at my wife as she rolled her eyes... haha. We had just been talking about it being on different TV shows and it was too perfect.

Could the Bitcoin Foundation (or anyone with a good reputation) start a donation to create a short tv ad? Would this be beneficial or are we still too early in the experiment?
