541  Bitcoin / Legal / In the Future All Crypto Exchanges Will Become Decentralized - Justin Sun on: January 31, 2024, 10:03:14 AM
https://news.bitcoin.com/in-the-future-all-crypto-exchanges-will-become-decentralized-justin-sun-founder-of-tron-and-advisor-to-htx/
"The conversation then moved to the ongoing debate between decentralized and centralized exchanges, emphasizing the crucial role of transparency and decentralization in cryptocurrency platforms. Justin further illuminated the concept of democratic governance for cryptocurrency exchanges. The episode concluded with a discussion on the emergence of new governance platforms, with HTX DAO serving as a prime example."

Do you believe this?
The most likely thing we will see is the use of cryptocurrency on decentralized exchanges.

"There are five extensions that developers can mix and match, according to briefing materials reviewed by CoinDesk.
Transfer hooks: Any time a token is transferred a "transfer hook" will invoke a program that checks whether that transfer is permissible, and revoke the transfer if it's not."
542  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Nigeria unbans cryptocurrency on: January 31, 2024, 09:51:30 AM
When I wrote information about Nigeria, I remember that USDT TRC 20 is also very popular there, due to inexpensive commissions.
For many residents, paying fees of several dollars or more is very expensive and they will not be able to use Bitcoin. In Nigeria there are also very small salaries, 50-200 dollars a month. The problem of commissions is very relevant there.
The crypto situation in Nigeria is very similar to the situation here in my country, I mean before the crypto ban was unbanned in Nigeria.

Most people in my country prefer Bitcoin and hold it in the long term, but for daily transfers that are made exclusively through an intermediary, the preferred coin is USDT TRC 20 because it is somewhat stable relative to the dollar, its fees are low, and its transactions are fast.

Therefore, when I always want to exchange Bitcoin into a local currency, I convert it to USDT TRC 20 first and then send it to the broker. This process costs a fee of only about $1 and only takes about 5-10 minutes, while transferring via Bitcoin costs more fees and a much longer time.
But if you want to exchange Bitcoins for USDT TRC 20, then you will pay a commission on the Bitcoin network, which can be very high depending on demand.
I don't understand your benefit in this exchange when it's easier to send bitcoins and receive cash.

I am quoting all three of you as I found a way to pay less than $1 as a transaction fee using USDT. In my country which is India, we have to pay a 30 percent tax every year on our profits and then a 1% tax is deducted on source for every cryptocurrency transaction, such as for trading crypto to crypto and crypto to fiat. The 1 percent tax deducted at source only applies to local exchanges and not to international exchanges. To avoid it all crypto communities shifted to international exchanges and whenever they wanted to convert their crypto to fiat they used local exchanges.

To avoid the 30 percent tax the preferred deposit crypto was USDT as it is stablecoin and does not show the government that it is generating any profit. At first, a lot of us were using USDT on the Tron blockchain but the fee was $1. With the introduction of USDT on the Binance smart chain the fee was significantly reduced. I am not from your country but if in your country brokes accept USDT on the Binance smart chain then it would reduce the fee that you guys are paying for every transaction now.
When there is a large exchange, for several thousand dollars or more, then the commission of 1 dollar does not matter. In Tron, you can stake Tron to get Bandwidth and Energy and have free transactions.
USDT is also very popular in Russia, and exchangers accept these stablecoins in many ecosystems.

If you exchange cryptocurrency on an exchange, then before using the p2p service you can sell your cryptocurrency, and if you use shadow exchangers, then they mainly accept USDT and USDC, because it is fast even on Ethereum.

Why are there no exchangers in India where you can exchange cryptocurrencies for cash? Is this a very big crime?

But if you want to exchange Bitcoins for USDT TRC 20, then you will pay a commission on the Bitcoin network, which can be very high depending on demand.
I don't understand your benefit in this exchange when it's easier to send bitcoins and receive cash.
What you say is true, but the broker does not accept Bitcoin now. He only accepts USDT, so he requires a transfer via USDT TRC 20.

It would have been better if the transfer was done via Bitcoin immediately, because the seller will pay the fees for transferring Bitcoin from the wallet to the exchange, and then the fees for switching to USDT, then the fees for sending USDT TRC 20 to the broker’s wallet. These are all additional fees, but the broker wants to spare himself all these fees and keep USDT Only in his wallet, so that he can send it to the buyer at a cheap fee.

We as sellers are forced to submit to the broker's conditions because it is the only method available here in my country.
The same question, why are there services in your country that help you exchange cryptocurrencies for fiat? Is this a big crime?
543  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Tether Cryptocurrency Becoming ‘Preferred Choice’ Among Money Launderers on: January 31, 2024, 09:28:49 AM
And the crisis of the banking system in the world is prompting people to assume that cryptocurrencies will occupy a certain share in the global financial market. All states print money. Cash hodlers lose 7-15% per year in countries with good economies and bank interest does not even compensate for these losses, but only slightly reduces the losses.

The banking system is one of the worst systems humans have created to loot humans. What the banks advertise is the biggest fraud, they say that every bank user needs to save money and invest in the banking system while on the contrary they take that money and invest in business to make more money. They are using a user's money to earn profits and when they are asked to share the profit they only pay peanuts.

The status of banking in my country is so bad that if you keep money in your bank account you would hardly earn any interest. If you invest in any banking-based schemes the amount of interest you get is very less. That was the primary reason why the middle class in my country invested in stocks and now they are investing in crypto. The government does not like it and that is why they implemented the highest tax slab for crypto trading.

Any inadequate tax regime always causes a shadow market. I have cited Moscow and St. Petersburg many times as examples of the largest shadow markets in the world.
But these shadow exchanges have branches in many countries and are constantly expanding. If you close them, then many other small exchangers will open in their place, which will work much more secretly.

There are many big players such as BlackRock, Grayscale, etc, but investors might be attracted to asset managers that have made their wallets public. We might see other providers join Bitwise and also seek other means to gain the trust of prospective investors.
They announce the data publicly, and it will not be difficult to track the flows, especially since they are in the thousands of BTC and the data results are updated periodically, with a low possibility that these funds will commit fraud, especially since everything is subject to taxes and auditing.
The only advantage of showing the address is that it only helps in quickly detecting scam if it occurs.
This is the American market and large public companies operate in these markets. Such fraud is impossible because the scammers will have nowhere to escape. Bitcoins are stored in specialized wallets that cannot be managed like your own hardware wallet.

546  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC vs Coinbase on: January 31, 2024, 09:07:10 AM
@zasad@. I agree on Coinbase not winning on all charges, however, I disagree on a policy change on the cryptospace by the SEC after US elections. There might be some changes if Trump gets the victory because everything he did during his term was express his dislike for crypto but his administration has never done any strict regulatory against this. However, if a Democrat will win, I reckon what we are presently witnessing might only be the beginning.
The United States has accumulated a lot of internal political and economic problems, and I don’t think that the new president will have much time to spend on cryptocurrencies.
I wrote with reference to world sources that the economies of many countries are large bubbles, when agriculture and manufacturing occupy no more than 30% of GDP, and the rest consists of financial speculation. With such financial debt, the United States cannot be present in all the hot spots of the world to control order, and therefore Trump will set the main goal of increasing production in his country.

I disagree. Governments always make good use of the fud they create in the cryptospace to fund their own campaigns. Do you think Elizabeth Warren and her friends in the senate will stop? I am very much certain they will not.

However, if they really want good governance, I agree with you. They should fix the internal problems that have accumulated for many years. But there are politicians who might have stopped feeling concerned on what is happening in the political system and they only want to create as much wealth as they can before retirement. One of these politicians is Nancy Pelosi.

Why the fuss in the USA in Texas?
I watched several American bloggers who travel along the border and show that in many places the border is open and you can cross it without problems. This is all beneficial to Trump, who will solve a fictitious problem.

As for politics, in every country there are global elites who support world bankers and local elites who want it to be safe and profitable to do business in their country.

Grin

Monero is more secure for anonymous payments, has lower fees and does not require mixers.
There are no big problems with exchanges either, and Ratimov made a very useful guide, which he later deleted.

Cryptocurrency will win when there is no need to exchange coins for cash and it will be possible to pay with cryptocurrencies for goods and services.

You are making an important point here that I also agree cryptocurrency will win when we stop exchanging it for fiat. It took a lot of years to let go of gold and adopt a paper and it will take some years for your statement to come true. It is very clear that now Monero is more acceptable than Bitcoin currently as I went for a small ride into the zone of the darknet. The sellers are the same but now most of them are asking for Monero and there are very few who are now asking for Bitcoin. Understandably the congestion and the fee are the main concerns.
And the crisis of the banking system in the world is prompting people to assume that cryptocurrencies will occupy a certain share in the global financial market. All states print money. I saw some darknet sites, and they mainly use Bitcoin and Monero. Centralized stablecoins are not as popular.
Criminal activity when money is stolen and settlements between people, which will then not be declared to the tax authorities, are different options. And the second option is more common in business relationships.

Earlier it was mostly Bitcoin that was accepted as a mode of payment in the Darknet. With mixers getting seized and authorities focusing more on Bitcoin they started accepting Monero side by side with Bitcoin. Now, almost all darknet websites are asking for Monero as a payment method and it will go on until they face issues with Monero. I mean if you focus on the basic necessity of money laundering it was always meant for converting black money to white. Now, with cryptocurrencies and before the implementation of the tax it was easy for them, it was the best way to convert black to white. With harsh taxation policy and regulations, it is still a favorite way, but I feel they are now using DEX rather than CEX as it requires mandatory KYC.

Bitwise Become First To Disclose Bitcoin ETF Holdings Address
Bitwise has shown a worthy example for other Bitcoin asset managers to follow. Publishing its wallet address is aimed at showing transparency which could boost customer confidence in the company. The stiff competition between the other ten spot Bitcoin ETF providers might have also necessitated this publicity by Bitwise. There are many big players such as BlackRock, Grayscale, etc, but investors might be attracted to asset managers that have made their wallets public. We might see other providers join Bitwise and also seek other means to gain the trust of prospective investors.
In fact, there is no point in hiding this information, because it is public Smiley The wallet address is not public, but everything that is transmitted in tax or other reports will soon become known or companies like Arkham will find these wallets.
But the speed of reaction to events from the company's managers is worthy of respect.
556  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC vs Coinbase on: January 27, 2024, 10:13:36 AM
@zasad@. There are conflicting arguments on this. There are some experts who speculate that the case will be dimissed because Coinbase has a higher chance of winning this. Also, similar to what you have mentioned, Coinbase is an investor in Coinbase. They will use the politicians in their pockets that jingle like coins against uncle Gary.

On the other side of the argument and if there is a trial by jury on 2025, it appears that this will become a storyline that would cause volatility on the market hehehee.

Judge Failla could decide to dismiss the case, experts say. Bloomberg Intelligence senior litigation analyst Elliott Stein put the chances of Coinbase beating the SEC at 70 percent in a post last week.

"Our Thesis: Coinbase is 70% likely to beat the SEC, if not outright on this motion, then later," Stein wrote. "Even if the case survives, it likely reaches the Supreme Court, which we think will narrow Howey," Stein wrote, referring to test that's based on a 1946 U.S. Supreme Court case the SEC often cites in determining whether or not an asset is a security.

Others say the case will go on, and if the judge denies Coinbase's motion, then it would go onto discovery. At the end of discovery, both the SEC and Coinbase could bring a motion for summary judgment. If the judge isn't convinced, then it would proceed to trial and be presented to a jury, but that wouldn't likely happen until 2025.

I don't think Coinbase will win on all charges, but paying a small fine would be a very big win for them.
This year the SEC must also punish some projects that violated US law, which I wrote about here

After the elections, the head of the SEC and the policy may change, so in 2024 everything will continue in the same direction.
