561  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: James Turk's Q&A with GoldMoney followers includes section on Bitcoin on: August 18, 2012, 06:14:19 AM
Gold?

Gold is only living on borrowed time. Once somebody mine an asteroid full of gold, it's all over for the goldbug. However, for the rest of us, it means we can use gold in area where we are previously afraid to use gold. This mean gold will get incorporated into our bodies, electronics, etc in a higher percentage.

Every member should pay a fee that will be used to raise the bounty price.

For example, gold members pay 20 BTC a month, silver members 5 BTC a month, and bronze members only 1 BTC a month.

If there are 20 members that are gold, that mean 400 BTC are contributed each month to the bounty coffer.
563  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The reality of BTC that too many (and myself) dont want to believe. on: August 17, 2012, 08:36:42 PM
Not sure what's surprising about that. This is something that people in various part of the community are working on.
564  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jonathan Ryan Owens locked Rebate, Zip.A, Alberto & BDT thread on: August 17, 2012, 08:31:33 PM
not all GLBSE operations are like this, just like all BTC operations are not Bitcoinica...but yeah.. there has been some epic fail.

Frankly, the people who make the most money will be the people who hide all their money under their mattress rather than invest in sketchy companies formed entirely over the internet.

Unless there is some kind of formal mechanism and ways to hold officeholders responsible, I am not investing a bit.
565  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jonathan Ryan Owens locked Rebate, Zip.A, Alberto & BDT thread on: August 17, 2012, 08:03:49 PM
You guys lost money? This is why I dare not to touch any GLBSE funds with a ten foot pole.
566  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BullShit Trust. It is the beginning of the end. on: August 17, 2012, 02:24:24 AM
How innocent bystanders will be affected by this? How Bitcoin economy would react on "vaporation" of ~ 300 000 BTC or nearly 3% of all bitcoins out there?

I would guess that most damage has already been done and besides lots of stink, economic effects will be rather mild. Plus we will get lots of "bad" publicity. How exactly it will all unravel remains to be seen, however.

Agreed. There will be lot of loud wound licking and howls of pain from angry marks.

However, the economic damage will be minor.
567  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-08-15 computerworld.com.au - Money laundering using virtual worlds, Bitcoin on: August 15, 2012, 05:28:01 PM
This article really emphasizes the importance of keeping exchanges up & running as long as possible.  I honestly didn't think governments were this far along with tracking bitcoin.  I thought we were limping along as "they aren't even worth talking about."  If wikileaks can be cut off from all major funding sources then so can mtgox.  And a blow to one of the largest exchanges would definitely cripple bitcoin in the short term.  I'm hoping wikileaks was cut off a little premature because it wasn't really a business the government could play along with.  At least bitcoin gives everyone (including government employees) the ability to participate in sensitive activities.  This selfishness may be the only reason we will last long enough until it is too late for them to save the only reason they are in power to start with - money control.

Different part of the government cares for different things.

For example, CIA would love bitcoin because it would be able to launder money more easily for secret operations.
568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japanese getting into Bitcoin? on: August 14, 2012, 09:32:59 PM

I've really been surprised at how little activity there is in Japan.    For the world's third largest economy and the tenth most populous nation, I'ld have figured Bitcoin would have gained much more traction by now.

There aren't even any individuals offering to do local trades there (shows the closest trader is in Korea)

Even though Satoshi is supposedly Japanese, we never really have major Japanese participation.

Bitcoinica is NOT A CURRENCY EXCHANGE!

The intelligent Americans are helpless to sway things because politicians always go after emotional issues and use lies to get the general populace to vote out of fear.

There's no such thing as "intelligent" person when it come to election and democracy. Politicians have the impossible job of knowing and being well informed in a diverse range of field, from science to economics to software. The solution is to obviously limit their role into something that they can manage without their brain exploding.

Bitcoin will be that way too. The majority of future bitcoiners will not care one bit about bitcoin or Satoshi Nakamoto and the economics. They will think of it as MONEY and they will use bitcoin just like they use the dollars and euro. That what everyone accepts, why question the wisdom? They are not really bitcoiners as we think of them today.

a lot of ignorance in the comments

people prefer to attack something they don't understand and agree; dismissing freedom of voluntary actions such as trade and protection of such freedom from abuse.
They attack bitcoin through guilty by association instead of understanding what bitcoin is good for and bad for. Bitcoin is itself only a technology.

Quote
they attack libertarians while main two parties that have been in control of US keep ruining the great country with idiocracy, counter-productive actions fighting one another, focusing only on their political careers and only protecting special interests of lobbying sponsors. and yet they have a nerve to laugh at (attack) bitcoiners

The Americans elect them. They're responsible for ensuring the men that are staying in office, yet they deserve so much better. Lobbying is just petitioning. The founding fathers are just incredibly naive in how they design the government.

574  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ransoming Business Model on: August 08, 2012, 10:23:55 PM
Your post is hinting at asking if the "business model" will work, and obviously not or else we would keep seeing the advertisements for it that he used to keep putting up on this forum.
That's wrong. Bitcoin Weekly's business model absolutely works. The problem is with me and the site technical operation.

With the development of kibabase.com, more of my energy will be spent on writing and coding, rather than managing ransoms like it was in the past. A refined system will eventually make it to Bitcoin Weekly and we may start producing articles on a regular basis, again.

I will probably put up the ransom for "Notes and Thoughts" at a very small price as it is mostly my unorganized thought. So if you guys are going to donate, just think of it as helping me test the system rather than actually expecting to get anything interesting.

It wasn't, and I never heard of Senator Joe Manchin until now.

Hi, I am a hobbyist game developer who knows javascript/coffeescript, canvas, processing.js, and knows the ruby on rails framework. Let me know how I can get involved(for BTC of course). I will be especially interested once your game get released.

What's your tech stack?
