581  Economy / Economics / Re: You are the product. Corporations spying on us deeper than we thought? on: November 24, 2023, 06:40:19 PM
Ok, everybody knows we are being spied on by the corporations like Google, Meta, Microsoft etc. That's a pretty well-known fact and is generally accepted by the public. However, I started noticing some alarming facts recently: I am being offered stuff I mention while I'm on the phone. Then, I noticed they're offering stuff I mention while chatting with my family while the phone is located somewhere in the room.

Finally, what's really scary, today I was talking to someone (while my phone was nearby) regarding a car key. I started using my phone a bit later and I was shocked to find out there's an ad containing the very same Merc key we were discussing and I was holding in my hands! Then suddenly I realized this is not the first time something like that happens. Which means that the phone is listening? (recording?) to our conversations and possibly also filming the whole thing?

Can we discuss it? Perhaps I'm overreacting or being paranoid and there's a simple explanation for this?  Roll Eyes

I  noticed this way back in 2019. After having a conversation with my colleagues at work about a certain item we should get, I went online to do a few stuff and hey! Different brands of the items we talked about were displayed as ads. This broadened my curiosity,  how do they get this information?

Seeing this again on this platform and with the similar experiences from different people, it is obvious we are being  spied on! Come to think of it, what were we expecting when we ignorantly agree to terms and conditions that grant permissions to Applications to have access to our calls, messages, galleries and others on our devices? As long as we keep granting permissions, nothing changes.

582  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Nobody dont like war but it Will expanding only one reasons on: November 22, 2023, 07:57:22 AM
I am still trying to comprehend this message Op. People do not care about what exactly? The impact of war or what triggers war?. I do not believe People don't care, people actually care, moreover no one likes war.

The world is advancing as well as human activities too. Sometimes, the activities of one group may tend to interfare with the existence of another group negatively. Where this interference becomes a problem,  peaceful dialogue will set in and where dialogue isn't working,  the next option will be the use of force and aggression to enforce adherence. War will be an option provided the possible benefits to be derived from war outweighs its negative impact.

Those who choose to go into war with another group care about the welfare of their people this is why they will go to any length to make sure the rights of their members are not violated and also ensure their members do not live in difficulty, a difficulty caused by another group who has refused to take responsibility.

584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are there fewer women Than men involved in Bitcoin? on: November 20, 2023, 07:57:26 PM
Investing in Bitcoin for most women is just like gambling with their hard earned money, this they see as a risky adventure. Women are generally risk adverse and will run away from any project that does not guarantee at least up to 80% that they will get good returns on their investments.

Most Women are very sensitive to losses. Even when they've made numerous gains before the loss occurred, they'll still cry over that one loss. Such women can never invest in Bitcoin or any other risky business.  Peradventure they manage to invest,  they will quit once they incur any significant loss even if they've been benefiting before. Only few women can take the bull by the horn and compete favourably with their male counterparts in the Bitcoin space and other risk related fields.
585  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you in profit? on: November 18, 2023, 06:57:14 PM
I have noticed some individuals claiming to be successful in gambling.
but, my personal experience with online gambling platform over the past 8 months has been consistently unprofitable
I haven't broken even or made any gains. I'm curious if anyone in our community has actually achieved profitability through gambling. If yes, we can calculate that how much percentage of us are profitable.
I know most of the people pay to win and deposit to recover previous losses.

You are not alone on this.  There are thousands of people out there including me who have been consistent in gambling yet can't boldly say we have recorded one significant win or be made successful through gambling but this does not in any form indicate that there are no genuine persons who have become successful through gambling.

This set of people who are successful in gambling have years  of experience in that field, they study past records and current trends, including slight changes which aid them in making accurate or near-accurate predictions. While we emphasise on the fact that gambling is base on luck, we should also note that having vast knowledge and the right information at the right time helps to some extent.

587  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Lack of quality mindedness over flooding the board (forum) on: November 17, 2023, 03:13:34 PM
I have come to realize that even at the outside of this Nigeria local board as long "Bitcoin discuss" is concerned, the forum(s) are flooded due to too many threads simply because we all just want to take a lead, bring about what to talk about and calling on the public attentions to ourselves without undermining how incompetent and unnecessary the thread maybe since quality posts are all that are expecting.
Though no one would ever underrate his or her post(s) and thread (s) but the truth is that some person just want to contribute to the forum without the considerations of creative and quality  mindedness before exhibitions or expressions.

Abeg who no get something worthy of quality to post make him just relax and scroll through maybe searching for something interesting to read about after-all during exams if you no get anything to write again, u get submit ur white paper or write the one u know  & drop ur pen. Unless u want to lean on cheating and quite unfortunate no cheating on the platform here and looking at it sometimes we denies our aids of creativities but dancing to the tunes of refurbishes.

Sometimes, wetin you see as quality fit be trash to the next person and wetin the next person go see as quality fit be pure trash to you because people reasoning and beliefs dey different. In all, I believe say make everybody dey allowed to make posts provided say dem no copy another person post (I.e plagiarism) but bring all ideas directly from their head. Remember say, in every nonsense,  small sense fit dey.

We also know say to dey make low quality posts consistently mean say you no wan grow for the forum because Normally, person no go wan give you merits for wetin no impress them. This na why e good say make person dey develop himself constantly, with time  quality topics go dey flow through your head and you no go need struggle to join conversations with quality contributions.

589  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Every man you failed to lecture about Bitcoin can be a victim to scam on: November 15, 2023, 08:04:33 PM
Whenever someone come asking me about Bitcoin I sometimes look at them as another victim to scammer, at least before they learn, and that's even if they choose to stay after they get scammed, such category of people only know how to quit, I think this way because people only what to hear the good side of investment and not the bad and risky side.

Something happened to someone who is not very close, I remember he came to me asking me about Bitcoin and how to get involved, I remember it was a bad timing for me and I told him to go online and do his own research.

Now he is a victim to a WhatsApp group that opened a exchange and told him to invest through them, I never knew he had up to $3000 for investment, he never sound like someone who is ready to invest a lot and secondly I thought he was a time waster, now he can't withdraw his Bitcoin from the fake exchange.

I am thinking that leaving behind and not teaching people can make them a prey to scammers, if I have just thought him the right things about Bitcoin he might have not get scammed.

No matter how much you tell others to do their research about Bitcoin some are not very good at it, call it illiteracy or other but it is what it is, should we start turning those who are not so good with finding answers away? Is that a right thing to do? I don't even know why I am feeling bad for this person, I could have saved him though.

I do not see any reason why you should over burden yourself over his loss. This had nothing to do with you not teaching him about Bitcoin.  Anyone can get scammed on any platform and  not limited to just Bitcoin alone.  The young man was just too desperate to invest in Bitcoin that he failed to pay attention to the fact that scammers are everywhere offering so good to be true opportunities and unsolicited help. Stories about scammers and the tactics they use in defrauding their victims are not new to us, this is the reason we need to be conscious at all times. When dealing with strange people like this, we should know when to pause and have a rethink,  especially when money is involved.

Most times, when we try educating  other people about the things we know,  they tend to take  our efforts for granted.  Deciding not to help again is not the best option because you do not know who you are inspiring from afar. One little offer of help will go a long way.
590  Other / Politics & Society / Re: freedom of expression on: November 14, 2023, 11:58:18 PM
What is the meaning of freedom of expression?
Freedom of expression is one of the basic human rights that allows an individual to express his ideas and beliefs freely without infringing on the rights of others or spreading false propaganda and hatred.
This right is guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen of 1789 in France.

Naturally,  freedom of expression has certain limitations. This limitations allows you to make your opinions and ideas clear without violating the rights of others or constituting nuisance.  Under normal circumstances,  this has nothing to do with oppression as it is the right way to go in order to ensure there is peace and order in the society.

BUT
We all know that freedom of expression is very limited in third world countries, and when any statement is hostile to rulers, you put your freedom and life at risk, unlike developed countries, but we have noticed recently the lack of respect for freedom of expression by these countries
Example:
- player suspended and menaced by thier team after showing support to palestine
And the suppression of peaceful Manifestation that support Palestine
- Attacks and threats to people who do not support homosexuality.
Is this considered a suppression of freedom of expression?
Is democracy a dress for dictatorship only?

The corruption dominant in many third world countries tend to hinder many citizens from exercising their rights freely. Democracy in third world countries is a joke,  it is just a word written in the constitution but in reality,  it is not practiced. It is very common to see cases where those who make opinions contrary to what the government wants to hear ,detained unjustly. Only the guys at the top control the government while the opposition are seen as violators of human rights.

My apologies for the delay but unfortunately I've been tasked with shrinking this campaign to just 10x Hero/Legendary users starting this week.

Round 190 Payments have been sent out!
Not a pleasant news but it's understandable from the company perspective. Just when it was just few weeks to mark the 200th week of the campaign. Congratulations to the people retained and I must confess it was a very nice working with Hhampuz. All the best to everyone.
592  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: We should control our tongue at all time. on: November 13, 2023, 06:44:22 PM
We Nigerians carry freedom of speech for head and the interesting thing be say we dey abuse am. This na one common sickness majority of us dey face for Nigeria. We no know how to talk, when to talk and the right time to talk some things. Apart from the girl for this case, many of us  too wey dey talk say wetin this girl talk no good still dey guilty of this  very offence Of putting mouth for wetin fit cause us wahala.

Plenty bad things dey happen for this our country,  we no know who be who again.  Small talk wey you talk now fit cause one big kasala, this one na the main reason why we suppose dey think first of the possible implications of wetin we wan talk before we voice am out.

593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's happening with Bitcoin transaction fees? on: November 13, 2023, 05:03:42 PM
Is there any solution to what is happening with the transaction fee? Apart from getting the Blockchain forked what else can be done. The fees are now becoming a pain for small business owners and those who make micro payment.

The situation now in the Bitcoin network is not a new thing. The last time the mempool was congested, it was very severe and if I'm not mistaken,  even more severe than this current situation and there was no forking of the Bitcoin network.  I believe we will scale through and the system will not be forked.

I think everyone should move towards the LN. As it is the only option left now. Considering a person who wants to buy $20 wort of product or someone interested in transferring $20 worth of Bitcoin. They would need to pay $5 worth of fees. Is this what Bitcoin meant when it was launched.

Do you really believe the LN is the solution, Considering the congestion of the mempool and high transaction fee?
LN would be a nice option only if the LN was open before the congestion on the mempool which resulted in the hike in transaction fee. But if you want to open the LN now that the mempool is already congested and Transaction fees is already high, you will still pay a very high opening fee before you can access the LN and still pay another very high transaction fee to return back to the unchained. You see? This very high opening and closing fees are discouraging .
594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do not get scammed by this, specially newcomers. on: November 13, 2023, 02:50:15 PM
I can't even imagine someone claiming to restore a lost Bitcoin how and from where?
This is just something that is not possible to do because I know too well that any bitcoin stolen or mistakenly sent to wrong address can never be restored all less you have a direct contact with the person who owns the address. But however only newbies can fall for this cheap scam methods.

Same thought that comes to my mind when I see people seeking for help desperately after losing their coins, especially on social media from total strangers they know nothing about. This will only make you vulnerable and expose you to more danger and severe pain because at this point,  you are emotionally down and can do anything to get help. Note this, if you lose your coin(s), it is gone and cannot be reversed except in few cases where you are close to the supposed beneficiary.

Sometimes there many in the room so as one person call or drop and others also drop different information nd recommendation and those who don't know anything will call the contact thinking that the person they contact is a good person. And if you call one person in that place they will give the phone to one another making the thing more real.

They are in some sort of chain network, working hard to convince their latest prey that whatever help or business they are offering is genuine, if you are not smart enough to avoid them, they'll feast on your funds.

In this current age where everyone is vigilant,  where news about scammers and their mode of operations have spread round like wild fire, no one is supposed to fall victim to these scammers. Avoid strangers by all means, especially those ones that offer unsolicited help and juicy offers.

595  Economy / Economics / Re: Dangers of combining company and personal funds in the same account on: November 12, 2023, 05:17:05 PM
Whether you are running a business for the sole aim of making profit or you are running a non-profit making organisation,  always put it at the back of your  mind that every business is a legal entity and should therefore be treated as such.

Just imagine sharing your bank account with your friend, siblings or even your spouse. Problems arise when you withdraw too much from the account,  the other party might become affected, especially when you tamper with money meant for a particular purpose. It will obviously result in temporary or even long-term misunderstandings. The best option is to split accounts for peace to reign.

When you combine company money and your personal money in same account, both you and the legal entity might suffer temporarily or long-term misunderstanding. Oh yea! You wouldn't notice until you crumble the the business with your constant drawings hoping to pay back which most times,  you end up not paying. Know this, when you withdraw from company's account for personal use, you remain indepted to that company until you pay back. The best option is to put yourself on weekly or monthly payroll. This should compensate you for the stress of running the business.

Again,  it will be difficult to keep proper books of account and where the company is a Limited liability Company,  how do you determine what portion of the company's assets to be used to settle debts in the case of winding up of the company?. Combining company funds with any other account is risky and should be avoided.
596  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sad reality: some countries gamble more than they can afford on: November 10, 2023, 10:02:53 PM
I was looking at gambling statistics for my country the other day. People in Greece lost 22.5 billion EUR only in 2021, and 29 billion in 2022 and that was only on licensed establishments.

That's around 10% of Greece's GDP wasted away towards offshore companies... This is a very hard issue to deal with and to think that it happens at such a scale even with the licensed casinos is unthinkable. Essentially governments sell a casino license once and then these casinos are given free reign on how to advertise, how to be promoted, what claims to make... No limits to how much they can earn.

But governments sure as hell are there to profit whenever a gambler wins anything, heavily taxing big winnings... What makes me even angrier is that these licensed casinos do very little to offer gamblers resources to play responsibly, and do nothing to educate gamblers about house edge. Also, none of their games run on provably fair algorithms. And yet the government does very little to regulate them after having sold them a license...

And Greece isn't a rich country by any means. Many families are facing hardship, unemployment is high, youth emigration is rising etc... Things don't look particularly good for the economy in general.

What do you think about this issue where people gamble too much in countries where the vast majority of the population isn't well off? Should governments step in and restrict casinos more perhaps?
If the casinos were becoming a problem to the country,  the government of that country would have banned it without hesitation.  They are reluctant to ban them because they are making money from the huge tax these casinos pay. The government did not impose gambling on anyone, so the decision to gamble is a personal choice. The least the government of the affected countries and maybe Non-governmental Organisations and private individuals can do is to sensitize their citizens on the need to gamble responsibly and help them too overcome addiction.
597  Economy / Economics / Re: Is academic pursues enough to get incomes? on: November 10, 2023, 05:35:34 AM
Getting a degree helps to broaden someone's thinking mentality socializing while trying to get a degree is very vital to ones success partially, getting a degree can help and also expose the person to more presentable opportunity in life unlike the ones without a degree if there is no work in that region the person should improvise learn some digital skill and create a niche for him or her self

I agree with you on this. The mentality of a degree holder and a person without a degree are not the same. It is advised that, all those who find themselves in countries with little job opportunities should as a matter of necessity acquire skills in addition to their degrees. Degree plus skills makes life favourable, you'll hardly get stuck but also note that a degree is very important.

Take for instant,  a seamstress without a degree only believes in acquiring a small space where they will sew. No advertisement,  no promotions and the seamstress might do little or nothing at all to influence her brand.  She only believes customers who passby will locate her. This act will only limit her customer base and possibly hinder the growth of her business.  On the other hand, a degree holder who has undergone training on different marketing skills and how to reach out to customers no matter the distance will do better.

Academic pursuit makes one prepared for any opportunity.  This opportunities might be delayed but when it finally comes, you should not be caught unprepared.
598  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greed or risk on: November 10, 2023, 12:29:21 AM
There are loads of people gambling with various motives, and most people are gutted when it comes to gambling, its either the price or nothing.

They'd prefer to loose out on a huge sum as they've calculated the expected outcome and have decided to sacrifice whatever it is that they have committed to betting on that particualr game. I will call it risk rather than greed.

That is what gambling is all about,  risk taking! While any normal person will quickly cash out what's available rather than chase clout, the gambler was still determined to pursue the ultimate price. While many will call it greed,  I believe the gambler is gambling with what he can afford to lose and no emotions attached. If he can risk it, let him do it and if he losses, it is solely his business. As for me , I am not brave enough to refuse an  initial offer when the game is purely a game of luck. I will cash out immediately and come back another day

600  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What conditions might cause you to stop gambling? on: November 08, 2023, 10:02:30 PM
I know that many people try to stop gambling or reduce the intensity of their gambling because of several factors such as running out of money, being scolded by their wife, being scolded by their parents, or piling up debts. Irresponsible gambling will make us have bad conditions. I don't hope we will experience something like that because after all gambling is fun and full of challenges

But let's imagine, what kind of conditions might make you stop gambling?

I will stop gambling if my records in gambling have not been good consecutively.  For instance, I am always having reoccurring losses which has made me lost everything and maybe landed me in a deep debt and even cost me my relationships, I will call it a quit. We cannot be good in everything  and I'll be deceiving myself if I pretend to believe there are better days ahead.   Every one expects to win whether they are gambling for fun or for the money. My persistent losses in the game is a clear indication that gambling is not for me. If it's not working, it's not working.
