Not exactly true. The whole argument that dollars are the same as bitcoin is bs. You can't send dollars with same speed and convenience as bitcoin.

Anything you can do in bitcoin I can do in dollar but better…
583  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: American Green's Bitcoin Accepting Marijuana Vending Machines Hit Seattle on: February 25, 2015, 02:28:34 AM
Yep, Washington and Colorado it is legal already.

So what's up with the law in Seattle? Is it legal to possess marijuana? If not, maybe one of those vending machines could get charged with possession!

Looks like there is some evidence emerging of bitcoin being used by some bad actors.

591  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is an Electronic Bearer Bond and the US government will not like it! on: February 24, 2015, 03:12:59 AM
Man, I hope you guys are right. What happens if we get decentralized p2p exchanges like Bitsquare that can handle fiat transactions, at that point all regulation will become useless.

Let me give you an example, they declare crypto illegal, then they start going after exchanges, miners etc. You know, kinda like the war on drugs.

An article explaining why Bitcoin might have a tough time getting through the red tape.

How can govt. block bitcoin
It is available anywhere in world, just out of there reach Cheesy

That is just not going to go so easy on them , there are some big guys here and we got a lot of our money and it just can't go illegal overnight . It's not just going to be some simple war if that happens
592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is an Electronic Bearer Bond and the US government will not like it! on: February 23, 2015, 08:32:02 PM
I really hope you are right! I really do!

That is exactly what I am saying, it didn't work at all, it was a miserable failure, but it caused a lot of damage to society. Don't underestimate the stupidity of politicians.
Today's political reality is very different from the one that existed when the war on drugs began.

They can't stop bitcoin because it's a political non-starter, at least in western democratic society.

Because THAT worked out well for them.  Tongue

In my opinion, the fact that whistleblowers will be immune and free to share information that is vital to the well being of the general public, far outweighs the potential consequences any possible misuse of such a system.

DarkLeaks is a FANTASTIC IDEA .. beautiful application of the blockchain. Thumbs up to the devs!

What is so fantastic about it? Disclosing information for money sounds like extortion to me. Like stated above, the difference between being a whistle blower and a sell out is the fact you share the information for the money or out of esthetics.

On the other hand it would secure the whistleblower financialy, giving some backup to compensate for the whistleblowing and losing a lot of personal freedom.
597  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: February 22, 2015, 07:25:01 PM
If a lot of other asic users join us, maybe we might have a shot. Or boincstats.com stops counting BU credits.
598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: February 22, 2015, 07:12:22 PM
The new one should have been named GRC-POR! much simpler.

GRC Research is LIVE on CCEX.

GRC Classic has been renamed to GRCX and GRC Research is available under the original GRC ticker.

GRC Research - https://c-cex.com/?p=grc-btc
GRC Classic - https://c-cex.com/?p=grcx-btc

Why?

Better GRCX for the new one and GRC for the old one.

Now you can see in several price tickers the price of 2 different coins under the symbol GRC.
599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BitcoinUtopia has been whitelisted by Gridcoin, use your ASIC to mergemine both! on: February 22, 2015, 06:29:51 PM
I wonder how many asics total we have now on team Gridcoin??

We need more guys with ASICs to join, we could probably do 1 billion credits per day easy.

We just did exactly as you predicted, we broke 1 billion credits in a single day!
 Date    Credit

LOL, 1.3 billion credits. If a few more ASIC guys join in, we should be #1 in a few days.

today it became true, Gridcoin entered TOP10 fastest growing teams on BOINC:
