in side related news Ethereums pretty much near its full launch That isn't entirely true. Ethereum just launched their blockchain (thawing period currently) for mining and have basically launched their platform for developers. User functionality is a staggered release that will be ongoing for quite awhile. The way I understand it is that Maid will launch Safecoin with farming enabled and some user functionality with some third party apps ready to go from the start. The Maid project will also be a continuously developed 'launch' but I think they are closer to having end user interaction. That said, both projects are different and the poster who said that Maidsafe really has nothing to contribute to the Ethereum news other than, "Congrats and well done," is pretty spot on in my opinion.

I don't think there is any need to insult other communities.
John invented FPGA mining and has pretty much been rolling out awesome after awesome. The least we can do is not sink to the level of crass ad hominems and petulant bickering.

Just a friendly reminder - if the toxic BTCTalk vitriol starts to become an issue, there is a moderated thread started by John as well as the Vanillacoin forums.
I'm all for free speech but having sat through countless troll fests, another one does not sound palatable...
Cheers!

Please understand that ether coins has nothing to do with ethereum. It is not sanctioned by the ethereum team, nor can it be used by ethereum.
Explain this to the Bitcoin press. Well...once Ethereum is live than Ethercoin is obsolete. The press will understand it through retrospective consideration...or not. Tough to assume comprehension on behalf of the press.

There were a lot of English speakers (probably still are) who didn't understand the reason for the name including myself at first (Polo box and I helped each other work out the Linux angle in Aprilish). In fact, someone posted a question a few pages back inquiring about it.
If the coin works as intended by john-connor then any language disparity (which is a valid point by the by) may be solved by a larger amount of people discussing it.
It wouldn't hurt though to try and create an excerpt in the Chinese ANN if involved people are inclined...

Is the wallet stable enough to keep large funds in it?
Yes, it's stable, just make sure to make backups of wallet.dat (copy-past or via console) from time to time. How do I access the wallet.dat file? (complete newb to VNL) If on Windows, I just hit the Start menu and search for "Vanillacoin". You could use the same search function and use "%appdata%", click 'Roaming' and look for the Vanillcoin file that way - which contains the 'wallet.dat' file that you would like to back up. Others may have some faster or more preferred ways but that is how I do it. I also create back ups every few weeks or so depending on usage which is good practice in my opinion.

You know...there is a vanillacoin forum. https://talk.vanillacoin.net/Seems a shame that it is not really being used. And I don't think that the ridiculous posts are going to stop (more likely that they will increase in frequency).

Well that was unexpected...

its not even decentralized, john-connor has it all running off a pentium 2 - 166Mhz 256mb of ram in his parents basement, soon as theres a power-out, boom vanilla coin goes offline everyone loses there coin.
You're either a brilliant satirist or someone who really doesn't understand how any of this works...

I think that losing Polo over Bittrex is a mistake.
That said, I am not encouraged by lack of dev involvement here. I believe his work on Block (if he is actually involved there?) is valid but not keeping his core base on his agenda was/is a mistake.
This was a buy and forget for me...I hate to see it become the latter on a permanent basis...

Not sure I have seen a btctalk thread where the trolls were ridiculed and encouraged more than they were 'defended against/engaged'.
Kind of scary...: )

this scam still going? we all know there is no actual release and the dev has far more powerful miners than everyone, its a scam that's why dev stays anonymous.
you would think with all the "angel investor" funds they could afford a logo. if it truly was being sponsored, the sponsors would want it looking professional as possible.
its just another scam, but time will only prove it to yourselves.
just a warning, when it drops its going to drop HARD.
He invented fpga mining. He's working on it now with very recent updates on the vanillacoin forums ( https://talk.vanillacoin.net/topic/147/making-a-mojov3-fpga-miner). Poloniex vetted the code and it is currently working with one confirmation rather than six, ten, or one hundred. I personally think that the logo issue is moot and there is a possible rebrand (obfuscate in order to distribute well). My thoughts don't matter though. The logo doesn't mean anything if the code doesn't work and if you're basing decisions on a logo than you might want to reconsider where you are getting your information. For the record - the code works. But by all means...do your own research and sell what you have. Cheers!

The wallet vanillacoin.exe program was flag by my anti-virus as an infected file. Or it was flagged as 'unrecognized' (instead of infected) which happened to me. In that case, you just allow the program to accept it and continue merrily along.

Let them dump. I'm not here just because of positive price movements. I'm not a day trader nor do I want to be.
I'm here because there is a chance that this dev is the real deal. The underlying fundamentals that went into this coin are very important...and I think there are some major understated aspects to the coin.
Edit to add - John is still the guy who created fpga mining first. I suppose that there is more than just 'a chance' that he is the real deal...; )

That is a bit harshly worded...I have been here for quite awhile and think that POS is a mild mystery depending on coin specific factors....but accurate information is important...

I have been accumulating Vanillacoin in my wallet and was wondering at what point can I expect it to start staking? I have left my wallet open for over a week now, is there something else I need to do? Thanks.
Is your wallet unlocked? Yes, it is and has been unlocked. In that case, I would imagine that it have to do with the total amount of coins and their stake weight...though I would think that a week is a bit long to have to wait. They will stake though...
