601  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Stratum V2 it’s happening! on: October 11, 2022, 06:59:03 PM

Stratum V2 Development & Adoption Update

In short… it’s happening!

Today we’re announcing a working group established with @spiralbtc to accelerate adoption of @StratumV2, along with the release of the first open-source SV2 reference implementation (SRI).

This SRI is now available for initial testing, but it’s not a full implementation just yet.

In early November, the working group will release a more robust version of the SRI that will support additional functionality, including job negotiation.

An open-source SRI changes the game for SV2 adoption by drastically reducing the barrier to entry for more pools and firmware developers to implement it, whether by simply using the SRI or developing their own implementation.

Critically, the working group helps coordinate adoption across all mining companies and other compatible implementations both closed- and open-source to ensure that all Stratum V2 projects can interact with each other based on the protocol standards.

Spiral sponsors @TheBlueMatt, Fi3x, & @pavlenex. @galaxyhq supports @_rrybarczyk, @FoundryServices supports 4ss0, @BitMEX supports @chris_coverdale, & @summerofbitcoin supports @lorban6.

Other mining companies interested in contributing to the SRI or supporting Stratum V2 developers are invited to join the working group.

To learn more about it and see contact info to get involved, go to http://stratumprotocol.org.

Momentum to push Stratum V2 towards widespread adoption is at all-time highs.

On that note, stay tuned for more announcements about adoption from big mining companies that are in the works.

Unfortunately no. Bitmain played dirty tricks again.

In regards to the "J" miners, there are two different ones: Old ones, with pic in the hashboard, New ones without it.

You can only recognize the "New" ones when they come from factory with the PSU APW121215 rev D or later. You cannot use older PSU revisions with these "New" miners as it lacks the detailed power control. Old miners should probably work fine with the New PSUs though.

You cannot recognize the "New" hashboards without removing heatsinks, so be very careful with mix matching PSUs. Once Braiins OS supports the New miners, the log will alert if the old rev PSU is connected to new miners.

The APW121417 also uses these pic less hashboards.

I suppose the aftermarket PSUs will all just have to adapt for the "New" miners, but who knows.

Yeah, gone are the days where the PSU only supplies 12V... It changes dynamically within a range. Well the control board itself is still getting 12V (and feeds the fans with that).
603  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS+ support thread on: September 27, 2022, 03:50:51 PM
The only aftermarket psu i know that works right now with Braiins OS, is the Gullpower, specifically the GPW121215-8KW immersion PSU. Some crazy person managed to pull "Over 9000!"™ watts at the wall with it... So the thing does deliver.

The development team is also studying the Alphaminers, but for some reason those need extra firmware support, so i don't know when they will get supported. Last time i read they were making the 7kw model work, so i think it should get support sooner or later.

I suppose the model you linked was tested by the reseller so they would know, when i get confirmation from a third party I'll add it to the list.

Other aftermarket brands/models are unknown if they would work or not. The Gullpower was discovered by adventurous people who just tried.

Its the same way others also discovered the Zynq control boards C87 and C84 "just work", unlike that Beaglebone and Amlogic trash which imo are a waste of dev time and resources (they should be just thrown out), even if its theoretically possible to make them work, they do suck, very low capacity, poor cpu, etc. For example with the BB tuning takes much longer as it can't do all hashboards in parallel. Even Bitmain won't ship them if you break your board and ask for a new one you will get the C87 which is perfectly fine like the other Zynq.

Braiins is fully committed to Bitcoin, so the other algo asics will not be supported. Its also the reason altcoins were finally removed from the pool.

Actually they can stamp whatever if you pay them, even "Sandisk" so that's not very useful in many countries. However, the largest capacities and fastest speeds tend to be faked more, so you use reverse scammer psychology and aim for the smallest and slowest which were unlikely to be faked.

Ideally you would not immerse the control board, but if you do, when you take out the sd you need to degrease the contacts in both the control board and the sd card from the dielectric liquid before inserting it again.

608  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Red light on s9j on: September 08, 2022, 01:36:37 PM
Look its simple, Bitmain/Zynq is cheap right? They are not going to put a chip in there capable of handling SDXC or more, when there are surplus of obsolete SDHC or older available. This is why 32g is the limit. BUT, there are 32g SDXC cards out there, which will, of course, not work. That is why they wrote that 16g max thing. More than 32g will absolutely not work, the border from SDHC and SDXC is right at 32g. Besides from their point of view, customers are almost never ever using the micro SD slot...

And of course this is disregarding the fake ones, which just complicate matters. Smaller sizes tend to be less faked. Braiins OS only needs 128m so its a huge waste of capacity anyway, get the smallest size you can Smiley

610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin *is* a store of value! Satoshi implied so. on: September 08, 2022, 01:12:02 PM
To begin with, "winter" doesn't happen in the entire world at the same time. Sure the opposite pole is summer, but there are still the whole tropics. Not the entire planet is having power scarcity, in fact, some places have excess of it. Take for example the natural gas from oil extraction, its normally just vented or burned, but there are mining operations running generators from that gas on site instead, those are not connected to the grid and are immune to the problems in California, Texas etc.

Bitcoin can work with lots or little hashrate, and it can have hashrate come and go as well. The market self regulates itself according to hashprice, and this in turn is what also keeps in check those thinking of "attacks". So if it went low enough to make an attack feasible, more miners would come to profit lifting the difficulty again and keeping the incentive away in perpetuity (its more expensive to perform the attack than the possible benefit).

Those that don't understand, or even fear Bitcoin, have not read the Austrian school of economy, they think deflation is the end of the world, it isn't. Unlike what the current trend says, you don't have to get in debt to invest, without garbage money you can simply save to invest. Its slower, but steady than the roller coaster of credit expansion, bubbles and crashes.

And the price of things is subjective, period. Its valuable to people because they feel like it. Those who don't think so sell. And that's the correlation you get in the market. This value is changing according to time and location as well as the feelings of every individual person. Things don't have "intrinsic" or "extrinsic" value, it is subjective, and its not fixed in time and space. Again, Austrian school of economy...

Once you understand it, you know the place of Bitcoin in the world, and how is pushing it to a different era. Altcoins made by people who don't understand and just reproduce the vice of fiat in digital form, are destined to fail. Infinite emission, voluntary "burning", reverting transactions on a whim by a select few, that's the kind of trash the State has always done. None of that exists in Bitcoin.

IMPORTANT: If you are currently running many X17 devices at the default power limit, this update will cause a significant increase in power consumption. To prevent that, you can simply change the power limit on your machines slightly (e.g. to 1710W) so that the upgrade does not cause any major changes.
If you install Braiins OS+ on a stock device, or have been using a user defined power limit, this change will not impact you at all.

Braiins OS+ is a full replacement firmware made from scratch. Braiins has to figure out hardware support without any aid or documentation from manufacturers, for this reason the number of supported ASIC miners is limited. Braiins takes no shortcuts like others that illegally mod existing firmware and infringe cgminer's intellectual property (see Section 8), therefore its impossible to support new miners that have been just released. It takes countless hours of research and development to support each new variant or model in a manner that is clean, safe and efficient.

Braiins OS+ is made in Czechia part of the European Union with the highest standards of excellency.

Unlike others who don't care about burning your miners, Braiins cares. Only Braiins OS+ prefers to stop using what it doesn't like, others are "do it no matter what" mindset. Long time farm operations save with extended hardware longevity and unrivaled uptime because of this, which is what makes profitable what others lose in downtime and repairs. Also your company won't be liable for the use of pirate software that funnels money to an OFAC sanctioned country. Braiins OS+ is CLEAN, nothing from the manufacturer, nothing from cgminer, designed from the bottom up, not patched with a gazillion holes, mem leaks or a reckless uncaring and ridiculing attitude. Those incapable of writing their own mining software are no competitors, but pirates.

Braiins as a company exists since 2011, 13 years of unparalleled experience; and it shows, the industry knows the truth.

Since Braiins OS+ release in 2020, the results have always been the best efficiency, often resulting in a "generation leap". For example:
People who use it with the S9, can make 74 J/TH, same as S11 with stock.
People who use it with the S17, can make 29 J/TH same as S19 with stock.
People who use it with the S19j, could make 21 J/TH same as S19 XP with stock.
People who use it with the S19 XP, can make 18 J/TH same as S21 with stock.
People who use it with the S21, can make 15 J/TH same as S21 Pro with stock.

Clean, safe, efficient. Braiins OS.

For most of 2023, you could have made your XPs achieve the so called 1XJ/T ahead of the manufacturers newest models, by simply using Braiins OS+.

Even if you subtract the dev fee, you still get better than others with "zero fee". For example 101.2*0.975=98.67 1856.3W/98.67TH=18.81J/T (normalized against "zero" fee). By using Braiins OS+, you support the development of a truly independent and clean alternative developed from scratch.

The reason why Braiins always achieves the best efficiency is because of its unique autotuning, a deep and continuous process others aren't able to imitate no matter what they claim, since they don't get it and take shortcuts which are inefficient and never adapt truly to your hardware. Its not who does it first, its who does it best. Worldwide market adoption has been overwhelming, and for good reason. Think of cars, what quality you get from Europe, America, China and Russia...

And on top of that, enjoy the 0% pool fee by using Braiins Pool. Since you are already paying for Braiins OS+ you get the benefit of using Braiins Pool for free! Two products for the price of one!

612  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Mining Softwares for S19J Pros on: September 08, 2022, 02:22:12 AM
Hello,

Setting up a little over 300 Asic Miners (s19j pros mixture of 92th, 96th, 100th, 104th) all of which will be immersion-cooled. I am looking for suggestions on any mining software that can achieve the following:

1) Overclocking capabilities up to 5000W
2) Fans will be removed when immersed, need software to spoof the fans.
3) Farm/Miners can be remotely managed, this will be vital.
4) Capable software that can be flashed for beaglebone
5) Decent Dev/Pool Fees

Thank you

With Braiins OS+ you first need to check if your miners are supported. Those "J" miners that came from factory with PSU rev d,e,f,g are currently unsupported.

As for overclocking, i have seen them work with the Gullpower at 191TH (S19 Pro 110), though i don't condone that practice, I'm much more in favor of efficiency, especially with the current hashprice. But yeah some crazy people out there did use those 8000W PSUs with Braiins OS+ just fine. The current version has a powerlimit max of 6500W, which could at the wall end being more so you must very careful, start with defaults and only after Tuner is "Stable", slowly try higher values monitoring everything especially temperature. Do note that not all aftermarket PSUs work.

Only factory firmware requires spoofers.

You can use third party programs for this, in this very forum you can check some like foreman, mineitor, awesomeminer, etc. Or set up a VPN or leave a remote desktop app running in a pc onsite.

Braiins OS+ runs from micro SD cards ONLY, there is no flashing due to manufacturer hardware locks in place. Testing is only a matter of inserting the microSD card, and you just remove it when you want to go back to factory firmware. No NAND or EEPROM writes of any kind ever.

Any miners with Braiins OS+ you point to Braiins Pool (formerly known as Slush Pool) will have the pool fee from the hashrate of those miners returned to you. The pool fee is 2%. Other pools take 2.5% or more (when they don't keep your money by "suspending" withdrawals...).

Modern miners only work with Asicboost, and the Braiins OS option that existed for S9 would still required a pool with rolling version so it was essentially useless to disable it as a combination of a pool with rolling but without Asicboost simply did not exist or i never saw one anyway.

Changing the hostname should be in System > Status > System, but that is unavailable to bbb.

Yes you cannot rename the user. Well you can but its pointless, it still needs to be root level and some things may break so you better don't.

Where do you get the idea to use commas? I has always been dots, anything regarding IP numbers has always been dots, at least for IPv4.

Do not use the Network tab, use the (Advanced) one. The "Simple" one should be fixed in a future release.
Note that for bbb you don't have this option, it is more complicated so its best to open a support ticket or come to the telegram support group and ask there.

¿Te sorprendió no verla?

I did use the correct image file, just tried again and it's worked.

I have set it to 1350w and i'm now getting 15TH instead of 12.8Th @1470w!!!

The interface will take getting used to as will fault finding i presume with kernol logs etc, theres much more info and settings with this FW.

I'm thinking of installing it on all my miners due to the speed increase and small discount you get of Slush/Brainns pool.

Should i go ahead and do this?

Cheers guys for the help and advice.

Feel free to test as much as you want. Remember that some miners were meant to use higher power than others, for example S9 11.85 vs S9j 14.5. Of course low values are safe for all of them.

You can do batch installing using bos-toolbox, just make a simple text file with the list of IP addresses, one per line.

Don't disable asicboost, all modern miners use it and no pools remain that can't.

Ah yes, the vnish crowd and their fake users, as if you needed to know how to program an asic to make it work, all you do is leech off existing software modded illegally. Who pirates the pirates? You do, merry singing along the way.

I laugh at your stupid claims from that silly stunt you tried in 2019, as if anything from that time was kept, keep dreaming. All your "work" was useless. And yet, you charge a premium. Stop talking and replace cgminer already like you have been promising for months, but i know you will not do it, you don't have what it takes, pirating is easier.

Of course we all know Kano is your biggest fan, when will you hire him? He worked for Bitmain you know?

Well the manufacturer has been making plenty of money selling the machines, so they could easily afford to develop their own mining program and yet...

On the other hand, the only group doing actual r+d of things not documented anywhere gets false accusations from jealous people who can't produce their own mining program either.

Braiins OS is the only solution that does not pirate cgminer, at least in its limited selection of supported ASIC miners that were painstakingly figured out without anyone's help.

Every time the manufacturer introduces a new model or does some change, this work needs to be done again to be able to support the new variant. Precisely because they did not release the changes they made to cgminer to support those changes, which is a clear violation of the license.

Hello,
If I activate the immersion mode, how will it work?
Does the immersion mode with fan regulate normally?

This is correct, it will keep controlling the fans the same. (With Temperature control Auto or Manual).

This is actually just setting the minimum number of required fans to hash to 0, and was simply a cosmetic UI change. Older versions of the firmware had the actual 0 in the miner UI. Regardless, it does the exact same thing.
