621  Economy / Economics / Re: ~85% of money doesn't exist on: November 20, 2023, 11:49:24 PM
Most of the money that you see are just numbers pulled out of thin air through the collaboration of the government and the banks. None of those are real, tangible money that can be held physically. That is also the basis of the bulk of the world's economy, and it's surprising that they keep on pulling this off for decades without much of the system imploding on its own frequently. Well, so long as there are people willing to follow orders blindly from the government, and agree that the money they are using is worth a certain something, I guess the system wouldn't collapse.
622  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: When does the moment come when the gambler loses control? on: November 20, 2023, 10:55:29 PM
I'd say it also comes on greatest losses. People will want to recoup whatever they lost on gambling platforms, which will push them to play more and spend more in hopes of getting back what was lost. They will lose self-control due to this drive, which is extremely unhealthy and not something that is recommended for anyone to do.

Winning big also influences people the same. They think that since it's easy to make money this way, they will just continue on this path and all is well. That's not the case unfortunately, and luck isn't always guaranteed when it comes to gambling. You may be enjoying a lot of money due to some wins today, but it isn't guaranteed that you'll be enjoying the same wins the next time.
623  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Miss Universe 2023 betting today. on: November 20, 2023, 09:59:37 PM
It is strange that although I knew there was a Miss Universe competition ongoing as at yesterday, it never occurred to that the bookies will have it listed on their website. I don't think most gamblers in this community placed any bets on the just concluded event. You know we are mostly all about football, casinos, Boxing, other events are not as popular. Well, gotta keep my eyes on bookies that will give odds for the Mr Olympia and Strong Man competitions in 2024. It would be my first time so I will have to start from now to do my homework.

There are still a lot of gamblers that are interested in these events that are held annually. You can say that this might not be as popular as traditional sports but they still get a significant viewership, and a lot of people may want to be in the action, too. There have been some local betting events near my place that also went with the Miss Universe pageant yesterday and they managed to amass a lot of bettors in such a short span of time. Most bet on Ms. Philippines, though we know the outcome, and they were not happy with the candidate not even belonging to the top 5 finalists.

I've seen some social media posts that Ms. Philippines is supposedly in the top 5, but suddenly her name disappeared and then enter the name of the host country? So there has been another controversial that involved Ms. Philippines. Maybe because the country has been dominating this pageant for the last 5-6 years?

In any case, I will agree though that there are also some gamblers who bet on this kind of beauty pageant.

It's not the traditional betting that we have seen, but it's obvious that whether fiat or crypto based every year this kind of betting is open because it also has a huge followers from gamblers, maybe non gamblers but they simply bet on this specific pageant.

I cannot speak on the controversy because I'm not really a follower of this pageant, but I do know that this is an especially big thing in the Philippines as the country has been a regular of this pageant for over 50 years. Anyway, the bets that I see are mostly just between friends and families, although it grew so big that an organizer has to manage it and hold the funds on behalf of those who bet. I know it's certainly illegal but hey, they made it happen without any incident.

625  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this a good advice? on: November 20, 2023, 06:08:04 PM
This is outright dangerous. I wouldn't tell people to continue chasing the gold when in fact there isn't any gold to be had in all of this madness. I'd advise them to treat gambling as a form of entertainment rather than something that will earn them some money. Telling people to continue gambling when there's no certainty in gambling is like telling people to create more problems for themselves, which is NEVER a good thing.
626  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What I've learned so far as a gambler on: November 17, 2023, 10:37:04 PM
Not everyone will have the self-control of a saint in this situation. Often, people will push their luck to try and win them all. It will not be the case unfortunately and they will never, ever, win everything at once because the casino is designed to take every single penny they have. Then again, most people don't realize this, and they believe that they have the luck that not everyone has, and that they are someone special.

I'm yet to meet a person like myself who stops gambling whenever a substantial win comes. I used to play for fun, but now I try to play for the win and gain something even though I know that gambling isn't the perfect avenue to do this thing.
627  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency is the second most popular investment in "France" on: November 16, 2023, 11:00:59 PM
This is a legitimate move from them. Knowing how hard it is to penetrate the traditional asset classes when it comes to investments nowadays, spearheading into cryptocurrencies and making it big on the said realm is the best move. Good to see that there are youths that are already involved in investments as early as now and not every youth is destined to be mindlessly consuming media in every form.

Though of course, they should use cryptocurrency investments to break through the traditional assets as well. This is to ensure that they have diversified their assets and that they also have investments that can easily be accepted by a lot of people.
628  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: For sports bettors, are you attracted with bet builder feature? on: November 15, 2023, 11:59:44 PM
Bet builders are a good way to earn some extra money if you are confident enough on your predictions in a single game. If that is not the case, then a straight money line or a normal parlay will suffice.

I sometimes use bet builders whenever I know that my picks are good and I know that the game will easily run through just as I envision it. It adds thrill to the games, plus it wouldn't hurt earning a little extra. Most of the time though, I just chill and play money lines and watch without any worries whatsoever if I just want to get done with the game.
629  Economy / Economics / Re: Boycotting iSrAEl's product? think again. on: November 15, 2023, 11:19:10 PM
Boycotting won't do shit if nations are still funding Israel in order to continue what their doing. No matter how many products of Israel gets low sales and low volumes, they still have their own defense companies that continue to supply armaments, ammos, and whatnot to other countries. The world is just continuing to 'condemn' what is happening in the Gaza Strip, but no one is ballsy enough to actually start something to stop what's happening on that side of the globe.
630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ever Thought of Giving Back to the Community? on: November 15, 2023, 11:04:25 PM
I'd probably do something similar, though probably more focused on helping people that are on war-torn areas. It's probably the least thing I can do to help, plus it might even be the only chance I can give out my help to people in need as you don't always have that chance anyway. It might also cause a domino effect wherein other people will also donate since they see that you're doing the good deed, so it's a win for you and a win for those in need.
631  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your parent disinherit you eventhough you have not proven to be chronic gambler on: November 15, 2023, 10:33:04 PM
I'll freely accept their judgment and I would not dare clear my name. Inheritance is something that a lot of people are longing for, since it's an easy way to get off the reins of poverty. No sweat, no hardwork, just wait for your family to die and leave you off with something to work with.

But for me, even if I gamble, I'd probably not go full degenerate and still know when to stop. If they don't give me any inheritance, that is fine. I can work my way up there while still being true to myself. I'll gamble and not live according to what other people want just so they can give me something.
632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: J.P. Morgan Thinks the Big Crypto Rally Is Overdone on: November 15, 2023, 07:56:18 PM
They've been guesstimating a lot of bitcoin's price movements for years and didn't get one single thing right. They'll just share their insights long after the coast is clear and everything has laid itself bare. Most of these big banks laughing at crypto after it has flunked are not really gaining anything from what they're doing. They're just making themselves look the fool thinking that they look smart on their part.

Anything that J.P. Morgan puts out regarding bitcoin and crypto up to this point is not really something that is worthy of attention. They have the money and they have the investments, but they don't have any credibility when it comes to cryptocurrency.
633  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Quit gambling and Invest in gambling. on: November 14, 2023, 11:59:51 PM
You are already risking enough money when you started your business. Why not stop there? I wouldn't augment my business with gambling as much as possible, as these two should be separated and should not be mixed together. This is where your money management fail you, and it will fail you miserably especially if you don't know the meaning of self-control. Better start focusing on expanding your business and funnel as much funds as possible to that in order to make more money. I understand that more streams of income is good, but having one consistent stream while the other ones are draining from your pool is better by a mile.
634  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is it difficult for people to get capital easily? on: November 14, 2023, 11:27:58 PM
And this is where 'credit score' comes into play.

When you don't have the funds to start a business or buy something out of your own pocket, you will use credit in order to get that immediately. Basically, you are using your name's good standing to get what you need because you have proven that your word is good for it due to the credit score you have amassed over time. This is something that not a lot of people realize, and the reason why they cannot start a business with a huge capital. It's important to fix your credit score in order to get funds from banks and start working your dream business. I never realized its importance until I was the one asking for banks to give me a loan and they cannot provide shit because they don't know me, simply because I haven't used their credit services and repaid it once.

Not all credit is bad. You have to make money work for you in order for it to be 'good', especially when it is something that you borrowed from some other entity.
635  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🕹️ Esports 🎮 Prediction & Discussion Thread on: November 14, 2023, 10:47:57 PM
Right now, I am watching the SEA qualifiers for the ESL Kuala Lumpur and the game is with the most hyped SEA team, Blacklist Rivalry against the Team Tough of Mongolia. 29 minutes on the game now and it's like that this is going to be a game for Team Tough as they have spectre and pandaren brewmaster that has both radiance. While for BLR, they've got position 1 templay assasin that seems not going to be appealing on the late game.

Quite possibly the worst game to play TA on. Imagine going against a brewmaster and a Spectre that can just send units to you and burn your refract instances. It must have suck big time for TA to play on this game knowing that her main survival kit is being countered by two heroes with the same item. Thankfully Team Tough slipped off and missed the opportunity to convert the lead to a win. If I was that TA, I would probably raged quit and never looked back given how toxic the brew and spectre combo is against me.
636  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How much was the price of Bitcoin when you started trading? on: November 14, 2023, 08:28:28 PM
In 2014, that was about $200 more or less.

I wasn't actively trading then. I just did a couple of small buys and sells and that's it. Afterwards, I just continued buying more and more coins and hoarded them. Back then I thought $300 was the highest price bitcoin can do after that $1.1k peak back in November 2013. I thought that I missed the train, and all that's left of bitcoin are remnants that will no longer take off simply because it already had its time. Yet I still bought, and fast forward to 2017, I was one of the lucky guys whom held through it all and made a fortune keeping bitcoins and selling them at the right time.

Had I known that bitcoin will reach insanely higher highs, I would have used every single penny of my paycheck in buying bitcoins to maximize my profit. Then again, there's no way of knowing that, and I'm still contented with what I got right now.
637  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can a gambler be a good bitcoin trader? on: November 13, 2023, 11:53:00 PM
Those are two different things. A trader puts a lot more than just risks or bravery when doing trades. They also put in their experiences and analyses on bitcoin trading and holding it. Whereas as a gambler, most of them act on gut feeling or, if it's on sports betting, the knowledge that they have between the teams that will play. If their analytical skills were honed and practiced enough, I guess you can say that the gambler will, in time, be capable of bitcoin trading, but not a good one at that yet.

I've come across people who have switched careers from A to D, and it's not an easy transition but rather a slow and gradual one. If the gambler really wants to be a bitcoin trader, he can do so provided that he keeps the consistency and the drive alive.
638  Economy / Economics / Re: The Thailand government will distribute money to its citizens. Economists critic on: November 13, 2023, 11:04:29 PM
With what they'll be doing here, they're putting their economy into a rather difficult situation since they'll be handing out free money to a lot of people. Where will the money come from? What plans do they have to offset that? If this is to stimulate their own economy then good luck with that. I'm pretty sure a lot of people will just hold the money and consider it as their savings rather than use it for actual expenses if need be. This should be thought thoroughly and, if it's really a test as they say, the funds that they'll pour on the citizens should be very minimal so as not to damage their economy.
639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin an option for low- and middle-income countries [Fees & Costs] on: November 13, 2023, 10:34:06 PM
It will help most of the time, but when there is something going on with the network like the one we're having now, bitcoin isn't any better compared to these money transfer services. Assuming they wanted to use bitcoin for the sole purpose of sending and receiving remittances, transfer fees aren't the only fees they'll be looking at but also the change fees together with the withdrawal fees the exchanges will be asking. There's a lot of things to consider before jumping the gun and say bitcoin is the 'one' solution that overseas workers are looking for to help them lessen the amount of fees that are being taken from them.
640  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some of bitcoin's aim and purpose have been trampled upon on: November 09, 2023, 11:57:27 PM
There have been several mempool flooding over the years, and what I learned from them is that people cannot continue doing this unless they really want to disrupt the network. It costs time, resources, and most especially money. Only transaction fees were affected by this flood in the mempool, and all of the other things that you enumerated weren't. Give it a week or two and I'm pretty sure the hype on Ordinals, alongside the mempool flood, will get cleared and we will get back to normal transaction fee levels.
