621  Economy / Securities / Re: [HAVELOCK] [XBOND] Bitcoin's Only Exchangeable Bond on: August 21, 2013, 02:28:07 AM
Where would we go to find out about the pre-IPO exchange opportunities? Will they be posted in this thread, or do I have to pay extra close attention to the securities forum?

I bought up 250,000 shares and I'm pretty excited!
622  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HASHFAST warranty just TEN DAYS after delivery? on: August 21, 2013, 02:13:15 AM
I'm not implying that HashFast is doing this but it would make sense that a mining hardware company that both sells hardware and mines themselves would offer an extremely short warranties.

They then could use extremely cheap components that have a mean time failure to failure measured in the days or weeks. They would then pre-sell as much hardware as possible before they ship. Then, after shipping the average miner would die in a month. They wouldn't get new orders because their reputation would suffer but it wouldn't matter because they would have pre-sold all the hardware they planned on making. Finally, and this is the key part, since all the hardware they sold is now dead, the difficulty would stay nice and low for their own mining operation.
623  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: {BFL} Why The Monarch Might Just Work on: August 19, 2013, 04:41:03 PM
Your best option, OP, would have been to cancel your preorder and get a refund from BFL.

There is no reason to believe they will ever ship this new product.

It's amazing how quickly people forget. Recall back in October of last year when they said they would be shipping in late Oct/earl Nov. Did that happen?

Remember in January when they actually gave a date they said they would begin shipping. Feb 10, I think it was...

And it went on and on. And all that time they didn't even have a chip yet!!

Seriously, anyone who orders anything from BFL now is an idiot. I know people seem bitter, but it is not without good reason. They been claiming they would ship in a few weeks for over a year now.
624  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: If they don't have Stocks Available " Please Don't Buy " "No More Pre Orders" on: August 16, 2013, 05:46:59 PM
Only people who preorder will ever make money.

If there was a miner being sold that you could get right now and it was profitable, everyone would buy it, difficulty would rise and it would no longer be profitable.

Only people who take a risk and preorder will ever have a chance of making a profit from mining.

I think it's great that you are telling everyone not to pre-order. Thats means more for me!

It's a gamble, some pre-orders have worked out, some haven't

Pre-orders that were good ideas:

- Avalon Batch 1
- Early Jalapenos
- Avalon batch 2

Bad ideas:

- pretty much anything else from BFL
- Avalon batch 3
- probably Avalon chips, but too early to tell
625  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why only a fool would pay over 1.8BTC per GigaHash on: August 09, 2013, 04:06:39 PM
No one is selling for 2-3 LOL. I'm selling for 1.1.
That was not aimed at you dogie!
However, it only 1.1 based on the theoretical overclock speed.  You should price on guaranteed stock speed.  At 85 Gigahash, X 1.1 would be 93.5BTC and X 1.8 would be 153BTC.

I believe you are asking 120BTC which would be 120/85 = 1.41BTC per Ghz which is a likely loss.  I think 1BTC per GHZ is about where breakeven with +/- depending on wattage cost.  Now, if you pre-overclocked it, flashed the firmware, gave the appropriate cooling solution for it to be stable at the OC'd speed - then you could claim to be selling at 1.1
Show me a B2/B3 that can't run at 105+.

I haven't had any luck getting mine above 85. Even with a new power supply and AC being pumped right into the inlets once I try anything above 352 MH/z clock my error rate begins to soar. What tricks do you use to get it above 100??
626  Economy / Securities / Re: Epic Rap Battles: BitFunder vs. BTC-TC on: August 08, 2013, 08:58:10 PM
I like the integration with weexchange for safety too.
You win the award of the stupidest message on this thread.

please explain, whats wrong with weexchange?
627  Economy / Securities / Re: Epic Rap Battles: BitFunder vs. BTC-TC on: August 08, 2013, 07:39:24 PM
Please post IPO to BTCT. It just works... weexchange/bitfunder has been a consistent fail for me, i try every month or so, and i can't even get coins to my wallet. Cheers, keep up the good work. I've spoken with Hashfast and they are the real deal.

So say i grab a bunch at .0014 today... What date will there be any changes to valuation?

No.

BTCT is full of fail. Just look at the Labcoin IPO fiasco where people couldn't deposit coins in time to buy. Bitfunder all the way.

I'm trying to diffuse tension with a humorous title to this thread. I'd like to mention that as the issuer of BMF I have company accounts on all the major exchanges, and other than a few hiccups (which turned out to be my fault in the end) I've had zero trouble using any of them.

BitFunder and BTC-TC are each excellent in their own way, I appreciate the statistics BTC-TC offers me, and I appreciate the speed at which BitFunder allows me to move money.

I hear some people are having trouble using either platform. May I suggest trying a new channel for support. PM isn't working, go to IRC. Try e-mail. It's true there are problems, but obviously thousands of other people are not having a problem which suggests, if you are having continuous problems it might be something you are doing wrong and not realizing it. For example when I logged into weexchange for the first time I forgot I had capitalized my username and I began to panic when I realized it was difficult to contact support. When the problem was discovered I felt embarrassed. The truth is the problem only took 3 days to fix by going through support. I think 3 or 4 days is probably acceptable. Contact support and be patient.

There are great issues on both platforms. And then there's Havelock, which I suspect has seen a lot of new users recently, with XBOND.. Smiley

I use all three. And own securities on all three. It's not good to put all your eggs in one basket in case one of them gets shut down. I do like all the statistics BTCT offers.

But I lost out on 150 BTC during the Labcoin IPO due to a glitch in their software which makes me wary of trusting them. It's very scary when you deposit 250 BTC and it just disappears even after many confirmations. It did show up eventually but it was too late by then. This happened to several other people though.

I haven't had this kind of problem with Bitfunder. Bitfunder seems more straightforward and makes it easier to quickly check the value of all my assets. I like the integration with weexchange for safety too.

Havelock seems great so far too. Yes, I've bought a ton of XBOND...
628  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Missing transactions! on: August 08, 2013, 07:15:55 PM
It would be nice if there was a list of unconfirmed transactions that QT knows about and a button you could use to re-broadcast them.

I think there is concern that it would lead to people hammering the re-send button.

It should definitely send them on connecting to a new client.

It didn't seem to do that at all. I even copied the wallet to a different computer with a new copy of bitcoin-qt hoping that it would decide to resend the transaction but it never happened. As I mentioned before, I had a transaction stuck there for over a week that was never sent. Rebuilding the wallet from scratch by extracting the keys or going back to an older wallet isn't really a viable solution to recovering lost coins.
629  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Missing transactions! on: August 08, 2013, 07:21:35 AM
ok, I found an old backup of my wallet that was made before these transactions were sent and it seems to fine. Fortunately, I don't seem to have generated any new addresses in the new wallet because all my coins were still there.

Its not the best solution, but I'm simply to going to delete the new wallet and go back to using that one.

It really bothers me that -rescan doesn't work on the mac though. I think it might have worked had I imported my wallet onto a PC or Linux box. I'll work on filing a bug report tomorrow (not sure where to do that).
630  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Missing transactions! on: August 08, 2013, 07:07:09 AM
Try a "-rescan" and it should get your back coins if it didn't hit the network.

I'm going to try that, but I'm on a Mac, trying to figure out how to pass command line options to a GUI app right now. I didn't even know you could do that!

Thanks

here shutdown bitcoin-qt then run this in terminal
Code:
/Applications/Bitcoin-Qt.app/Contents/MacOS/Bitcoin-Qt -rescan &

Didn't work. The coins are still missing.

This is really scary. What other options do I have??

Just have to wait it out, nothing really else to do, it should automatically broadcast it again at some point so just leave your bitcoin-qt open.

Are you sure? I had a bitcoin transaction to foodler from over a week ago that still hasn't gone out :-/. I think my wallet thinks it's been sent out already.
631  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Missing transactions! on: August 08, 2013, 07:02:30 AM
Perhaps this is a bug in the Mac bitcoin-qt client. Someone else has had this problem here:

http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/9333/unconfirmed-transaction-for-2-days-despite-network-fees-rescans-and-redownload

This is really, really bad. That transaction had 100 coins!! I can not lose it!

634  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Missing transactions! Rescan broken on Mac OS in Bitcoin-QT?? on: August 08, 2013, 06:37:09 AM
This has happened to me twice so far. Here are the details:

- I've tried to send some bitcoins from my wallet (using bitcoinqt) to an address. The transaction appears to go through, but I don't leave bitcoinqt open to wait for confirmations.
- Some point later I load bitcoinqt back up and I see that the transaction is "unconfirmed" with 0 of 6 confirmations. This is the case even though many blocks have been found.
- Looking at the transaction ID on blockchain.info shows no transaction with that id!
- The coins are gone from my wallet and I can't spend them

So it seems like the transaction was created but never sent out to the network for some reason. But bitcoinqt and my wallet still thinks that the transaction took place so I can access that money anymore.

How do I fix this??

Here is an example of a transaction id, which should be 100 coins sent to 1BQoA9BJHTgFTHSYWKzJmhLfsGxReEsE8A. The transaction id is: 64076b4bc091a61d080bd504339ac130bef45fb7d659df24f4a6b2bab53062a9
It also included a 0.005 fee.
I've had another transaction "stuck" like this for over a week.
What can I do?
635  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MTGox has taken over a month.Has anyone used BTC-E lately? Other methods? on: August 08, 2013, 06:22:30 AM
I had $23k on gox, $10k which was sitting for over a month waiting for a wire transfer.

I finally emailed them and told them I give up and they bought the cash back into my account. I used the money to buy more coins, transfered the off and now I have nothing on gox at all (whew, I'm safe).

I've been selling off the $23k of btc on localbitcoins for 3% under gox price, which is still pretty good since the price on gox has been up recently. Only $17k more to sell!
636  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: In Hand Single SC 60GH/S (2nd price drop) on: August 08, 2013, 06:10:09 AM
Avalons are selling between 80 and 90 right now. Look at the other threads in this forum.

Since this is 2/3 the hash rate, it should be 2/3s the price. Maybe slightly more because it is more power efficient. 60-70 BTC is a reasonable price for it. 98 is still too high.
637  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Paying employee wages in Bitcoin - Legal and tax implications on: August 08, 2013, 12:32:57 AM
Almost positive company would have to withhold tax for the value of btc

So not declare it officially?

There would be no tax benefit.

It doesn't matter if you are paid in dollars, bitcoins, or bushels of rice, you still have to pay taxes.

The income tax would be calculated based on the market value of the goods or services being given as income. Everything has a value. If you don't know, estimate, and hope the IRS agrees with your estimate.

Note that this includes services too. If you fix my car and in return I paint your house for you, technically you need to pay income tax on the value of a house painting.
638  Economy / Securities / Re: Why are all the stocks going down? on: August 07, 2013, 10:37:19 PM
Makes sense. I guess most of the people buying/selling are not investors but speculators looking for fast bucks, especially in IPOs like the last ones of BTCGarden and Labcoin.

I don't understand it to be honest.  Bitcoin is risky by itself already so I always invest in Bitcoin securities cautiously.  Securities have to be reasonably verifiable, have a good managerial track record, pay divs and have a solid APR before I invest.

But if someone is gonna day trade with Bitcoin securities, they must have gigantic balls and I salute them!

If you wait for all that, you'll be too late.
639  Other / Off-topic / Re: Thinking of paying 500 BTC for A BFL MINIRIG from Arvicco? on: August 07, 2013, 10:00:41 PM
Actually 500 BTC is a reasonable price for a 500 GH/s minirig!

Just a month ago people were selling 80 GH/s Avalons for 200+ BTC.

That was a similar markup.

Now, you can get an Avalon for about 80-90 BTC (see the numerous threads here).

An Avalon will do 82 GH/s (I know, I have one).

That is about 1 BTC per GH/s. That puts it in line with this 500GH/s for 500 BTC machine. Also don't forget that BFL ASICs are twice as power efficient as Avalons!

all I can do is shake my head...   1 BTC per GH/s is crazy.   Good luck to anyone willing to pay that.    I'm worried about my .15 BTC per GH/s turning a profit.

Please tell me more about your .15 btc per GHs investment.... or should i say baloney

This. Nowhere can you buy mining hardware TODAY for 0.15 btc per GHs
640  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: August 07, 2013, 09:41:31 PM
Did i miss a reason why AM-Shares are priced so low at the moment? The divs are high as always so i dont see why...

People are selling AM shares cause they need to coin to purchase all the other securities that have been IPOing on the exchanges these past couple of weeks.
