641  Economy / Speculation / Re: How exchanges steal our money on: February 25, 2018, 04:50:42 PM
Weird but inevitable how much power we've chosen to award exchanges. We plead with them to ignore or embrace our forks and shitcoins. We plead with them to be good actors when filling up the Blockchain.

All the while almost nothing is known about the management, ownership and health of many of them, let alone their honesty.

In our rush to get rid of 'banksters' we've enriched and legitimised organisations run by amateurs, criminals and assholes often with zero regulation. If they ever got within reach of banking riches the crypto scene would be even more disgusting than it is right now.

It's one of the major barometers of crypto's real progress towards making a better world. Right now it's looking fairly samey.
642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: February 25, 2018, 04:38:24 PM
Bcash is dropping again USD and BTC value  Grin Grin Grin
I think pumpytits dumped his coins

Everyone does seem to have gone where are all the BCH supporters everywhere you look now in the land of Bcash it's all quiet guess there all quietly sobbing in the corner.

Every attack they throw at Bitcoin it just laughs it off they are running out of ideas and money

The great mighty dragon Slayer was more like a cowardly cat

While it's still bitmain's pet and still on places like coinbase (HOW did that ever happen?) then it's not going anywhere. Most alts are going to sleep. I'd vastly prefer it to die but there'll be pumps in the future and all the morons will come back.

After all this time and attention Coinmarketcap's top twenty is still a disgrace of vaporware and junk. Alts need a heavy flushing out.
643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pizza day with Lightning network on: February 25, 2018, 04:18:35 PM
Not the first lightning transaction for real products, that must be the stuff sold through the blockstream store, but still a very cool endorsement from the daddy of all real world transactions.

It must be a weird feeling being him. He's already a pretty big footnote in history.
644  Economy / Economics / Re: Doctors warn Government plans for 'brutal' NHS cuts will cause 'uproar' on: February 24, 2018, 02:43:11 AM
just like guns, i learnt a long time ago that there's no point talking to americans about healthcare. there's a blind spot there that'll never be cured. the american government spends more per head than most countries with health free at source yet still people die or go bankrupt because they can't afford the bills.

at the same time i'll guess these cuts are because of the lack of respect nhs users and providers have for public money. they never seem to figure out that ultimately it's their money and their neck on the line when they charge $1000 for ten toilet rolls.
645  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk Contacts CEO Of Twitter Regarding Crypto-Scams on: February 24, 2018, 01:49:15 AM
There should be a straightforward way of squashing this, but at the same time I really struggle to sympathise with people who are that freaking stupid that they'd fall for something like this. if this is the sophistication of the current crypto scammer then there's still a long way to go.
646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about Warren Buffet and Others? on: February 24, 2018, 12:46:31 AM
he's a value investor to the core. for someone like that to not be convinced by bitcoin is perfectly understandable. it produces no yield or income. i've never heard him speak much about gold or forex either. again, that's not his domain.

anyone who doesn't think these prices are 98% speculation or more is not being objective. of course they are. it's down the people working behind the scenes to get some fundmentals going to match it or he may well have a point.

what he isn't talking about is the network effect and that's similarly applicable to the tech stocks he eschewed back in the day. that's something a traditional stock will never really replicate. it's incredibly powerful and deeply connected to anything internet related. these old guys don't seem to realise how that can be bootstrapped into monstrous returns.

as it stands right now most of the tech stocks are in the same boat even if not enough people are discussing it. stuff like snapchat or twitter still have a lot to prove when it comes to making actual money.
647  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Do you think this year will be Red? on: February 24, 2018, 12:40:27 AM
after last year's incredibleness do we deserve another one like it or even better? nothing can continue forever.

it'll be interesting to see how much attention holds if it does go into a retreat. so much of the money is new that it's probably not bright enough to take it as a buying opportunity. guess that means the people who do will get a second bite at ridiculous gains when it comes around.

even if this year is terrible, people should realise how much higher the general profile is compared to a couple of years ago. that makes the appetite for the next bubble even bigger than before even if we're in for a reasonably lengthy wait.
648  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Bitcore- BTX - SEGWIT - lowest fee - hybrid fork 1:0.5 of Bitcoin on: February 24, 2018, 12:37:03 AM
Ya I mean the vision is literally similar to Satoshi’s white paper with just a few changes here and there... Is it really necessary to recreate the wheel to that degree?
My main issue is more with the lack of formal marketing. Relying on organic growth is more of an issue to me.

if it were me i'd be looking into a marketing push once the airdrop was winding down. a lot of buyers would stay away from a market that's still being distributed. once that's over it's on a more level playing field with everything else.

increasing awareness is always good all the same.
649  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETC rise to...? on: February 23, 2018, 09:44:12 PM
Think bigger.  Watch this video starting at 16:30:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7nZVJ2JRFM

Imagine the implications of Bitmain investing millions on Asic development and production for Ethereum Classic.  We already know that Ethereum is shifting to POS, so the long term bet is surely ETC.

I'm starting to think that Callisto's impact is too small to make ETC rise beyond .005 BTC and I don't think it's gonna crash after March 5 because what's there to crash?  It didn't even rise that much in the first place.

is bitmain entering ETC mining is a good thing? the continuation of gpu mining is one of the main things ETC has going for it versus ethereum, it'll gobble up all the slack and add resulting volume, however i'm far from convinced that ethereum will go PoS any time in the near future.
650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Bitcore- BTX - SEGWIT - lowest fee - hybrid fork 1:0.5 of Bitcoin on: February 23, 2018, 09:40:09 PM
Cryptopia can not process the transaction for more than a week. And support answers for 20 days, OMG. Did anybody have problems with the withdrawal from cryptopia?

You are not the only one there are a lot of problems at the moment. Use Hitbtc for now is what is recommended here.

i would choose to do nothing rather than enter hitbtc. i've never seen such a hated exchange continue to attract new custom. they're almost bitfinex like in their invulnerability.

at least we know that cryptopia is overwhelmed, not plain scammy. i never had problems with it until the bubble peaked and they came out and said why they've turned to crap. let's see if they sort their stuff out as that's still my preference out of the very narrow selection available.

651  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger releasing native Desktop and Mobile apps on: February 23, 2018, 09:30:10 PM
it's about time. i do not find the chrome app user friendly at all.

i'm starting to lose a little faith in ledger overall. it looks like they're letting the ledger blue die but haven't definitively told anyone yet. also stuff like them letting their ssl certificate expire and not doing anything about it for several hours are not reassuring actions.

i hope they get their act together properly.
652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: February 23, 2018, 09:04:28 PM
Bit of a bad show cancelling an airdrop a week before it's meant to happen.

it was classified as 'tentative' but it would've been better not to mention it at all and if it was a go to announce it a few weeks beforehand. this method is not too convincing however you want to look at it.

Thus, the distribution is aimed to get as many people as possible with *some* Byteballs... this will hopefully make it more attractive to prospective vendors... would you rather have 1 customer who has $20,000 to buy whatever it is you sell... or 1000 customers with $20? Granted, it depends a LOT on what you're in the market to sell... but if it's something like coffee... how many coffees is your $20K HODLer likely to buy? Tongue

this ID thing will never work. yet again common sense is not on display. you could tell a five year old they'll have to spend 8 bucks that may be wasted to get 20 bucks plus send your ID and their eyes will glaze over before the end of the sentence.

what should be done is to allocate all of the remaining coins to new wallet openings, though I've no idea how you stop that from being spoofed. that settles the distribution for good and then progress can be made.

while the coins are lingering byteball is still in the birthing phase and that needs to end.

i don't want to dump on anyone. i'm not bothered about more free coins. i do want this current limbo to be shot in the head for good. give us some convincing certainty. not wishy washy floating around.

make definitive plans and execute them.
653  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: February 22, 2018, 10:29:32 PM
Remember unspent funds are one of the key assets Byteball has over the vast majority of other crypto projects. Further you are incorrect in saying the new distribution methods are failures. Most have only been tested on a small scale, and have successfully got new users which is the aim.

nope. they're a liability.

developer funds have been ringfenced already. this huge percentage is floating around looking for a home. distribution by any means would indeed be foolish. noodling around with it still piled up is as well.

there are other plans such as a set amount for the first however many millions of wallet openers. that makes sense. this cashback stuff and failed id verification handouts are not realistic or pragmatic.
654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BestBuy not selling some GPUs due to Bitcoin crypto mining? on: February 22, 2018, 09:53:29 PM
and why are they denying 1080s? 1070s returns are possibly better as they cost that much less. they're a lot harder to find. i was in the market for a graphics card recently and went for a 1080ti mainly because 1070s were non existent.
655  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-22] 20+ South Korean Cryptocurrency Exchanges Voluntarily Undergo Evalu on: February 22, 2018, 09:49:54 PM
it's about freaking time. if these morons had done this years ago there wouldn't have been any of the fud and doubt flying around in recent times. even if they didn't want to do it, they should've known full well that turning over hundreds of millions of dollar with zero oversight was gonna attract a lot of government attention eventually.
656  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Suing Exchanges for Forks on: February 22, 2018, 09:31:44 PM
As has already been mentioned many times in this thread, most exchanges did not say what the deal was with forks in advance. Many individuals purchase bitcoin on exchanges, not send them their bitcoin for custodial purposes. As has also been stated, practically all exchanges have onerous withdrawal limits and requirements that would take weeks to withdraw coins. Many wanted to do so in advance of announced forks and could not get their coins out in time. So you are wrong on all counts. I am not saying that you are not correct in terms of any legal arguments.

i have no sympathy.

if you're unsure about their policy then remove the bitcoin. there are now so many forks there's no way they can allocate the time to keep up with them even if they were interested.

and anyone who has coins that can't be extracted over the course of a few days at the extreme maximum is a reckless fool.

you get forks if you have your private key. you do not have them in an exchange. this is crypto 101.
657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Coinbase Adding SegWit is Huge News for Bitcoin on: February 22, 2018, 09:27:22 PM
you know what would be much, much huger? coinbase batching transactions. they could have been doing that years ago and perhaps there would never have been any fee pressure ever. bitstamp are doing it. no doubt others will. coinbase haven't mentioned this one very basic thing that even a child could tell them would be helpful for all bitcoin users.
658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BestBuy not selling some GPUs due to Bitcoin crypto mining? on: February 22, 2018, 09:24:01 PM
it sounds like one moron rather than company policy. so bestbuy is going to singlehandedly stop crypto mining? that's an impressive task for anyone, even including a middling electronics retailer.

they must be mining themselves then if they're refusing to sell to the public. it's an interesting strategy to buy in millions of dollars of graphics cards and the refuse to sell them to you. selling is kinda their job.
659  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: February 22, 2018, 09:04:58 PM
i'm not bothered about the lack of airdrop but i am bothered by the lack of clarity. make plans and go through with them or don't mention them at all.

the 'new' distribution methods are failures. the previous one, especially the bitcoin holder part was pretty dumb too.

right now this project needs to have the developer's grip loosened and let it go out into the world and see what happens. that means distribution and rapidly.
660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ”Zen Master” Steven Seagal Eyes Up a Replacement for Bitcoin on: February 21, 2018, 03:58:27 AM
jesus. bitcoiin? that's the most shameless one yet, plus a fat pervert endorsing it too. he certainly has considerable weight but not the type they're looking for.

if they really wanted to beat bitcoin the first thing they should be doing is not having anything to do with an ico.
