Perhaps we should start a new topic about bonds? I believe that we have taken this outside of the initial scope of Mike's vision. Which I believe is a good thing!

That bearer bond looks awesome.

I've been wanting a nice looking way of saving offline funds to paper.  Armory is pretty cool, but something easily printed would be really nice, too.

We should come up with a good list of people/things for the portraits and the quotes.  I know there have been a few posts before filled with ideas.

+1

Maybe we can pool together to get some CERTIFICATES printed out by a CERTIFICATE company. you know the same ones that do stocks and bonds and vital records and stuff? Sure we can print the details at home but this would be really sweet!

Don't you really want to print it yourself since it has the private key right there? One rouge employee with a camera could do a lot of damage.

The public and private key would be printed at home. The certificate would just have the security marks on it and look official.

It's a thought. I figure if we are going to make a Bonds version instead of a disposable version we might as well go all out.

I would. Smiley

Example.

Again. We are talking about just the paper and general design. The details and contents are printed at home.

Would be awesome! Maybe something to give a new born and then allow them to watch the amount of BTC and the value of the BTC grow in value over time. And then on their 18th birthday they are presented with either the private key or the pass phrase to unlock the encrypted private key that is on the same certificate. Hell if they can crack it and withdraw early I think they are entitled to early withdraw Smiley

What a great idea for my son!

The pass phrase could be as simple as a poem that you mention at his graduation dinner party Tongue
686  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Underwhat circumstances would you sell off all your BTC? on: July 15, 2012, 04:08:03 AM
I suck at trading. Every time I trade I loose so no more trading for me. I just buy at market price what ever the price is. The value of BTC is going to go up up up over the long hall so I just need to suck it in, cause I just suck!

ok then. maybe I am not looking for a Bearer Bond. More like a SECURE bond?

That is the great thing about these... we are not locked into any one persons interpretation of what they should be.

Maybe you want an letter sized bond to frame or show off or whatever that has the public key, but a credit-card sized serial-numbered matched private key store.... all do-able!

I had thought a similar thing.  Only I was thinking more along the lines of letter sized bonds but with the 'cool Hollywood look' for cold storage or private transfer of significant funds (personal gifts, etc)

Yes, you mean like this?  I could put this in my safe with important documents, and people would realize it has value.

WOW. That's just... sexy! Wink

Damn sexy! But the private key is still in plain site so if the vault or what ever got broken into got stolen and someone DID know what bitcoin was, they would be able to redeam it right away.

Isn't that the point of a bearer bond? The bearer has the monies?

However it does pose an interesting delemia: if you are showing some with a careful picture they could empty the value.

Here is the design printed on a black-only laser printer

These would classify as public notes. What about PRIVATE notes with the private key being encrypted with an aes passphrase?

Would be handy for cold storage Smiley

and when printed in black-and-white only

Awesome! I'll take it!

695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] Would you pay for music if artists widely accepted Bitcoin? on: July 14, 2012, 06:32:04 PM
Perhaps you should rephrase the question to  "No, I would still not pay artists for RECORDED music." since I frequent the clubs on a weekend basis and spend more on a weekend than I do recorded music.

Live entertainment is where the money is now so I feel that the pool is not fairly weighted.

Fixed the poll, but paying for live music with BTC is an interesting idea, like buying concert tickets with BTC, scanning the QR code of a band playing at a local club, etc.

I am already working on a service locally for this.

Tried it a few times last night. Even picked the higher numbers. Lost every time.

What is the pick range of the magic number?

Here is why I refuse to use services such as itunes:

Some of them embed watermarks in the downloaded mp3 files, forever linking them to your identity. This creates an unreasonable liability for me that is completely disproportional compared to the tiny amount paid for an mp3 file.

If I forget my smartphone on a train and then some jackass uploads my mp3s on bittorrent, then I will have to face a huge amount of legal trouble, prove my innocence, and possibly be sued for gazillions of dollars.

Call me paranoid but it's simply not worth the risk. True, the likelihood of the above happening is small, but the potential damage if it does happen is huge.

Even the services that say they don't use watermarks can't be trusted, because it's impossible to prove that something is not watermarked, and the MAFIAA has a track record of playing dirty.

That's why I would embrace a music download service where I could pay anonymously.  Bitcoin would be perfect for this.

Download music direct from artist. I know a lot of artists that are using torrent!
