741  Economy / Economics / Re: Food security in the world has been shaken by Russia's actions on: July 22, 2023, 09:42:22 PM
On July 17, 2023, Russia withdrew from the “grain agreement” and officially notified Turkey and Ukraine, as well as the UN secretariat, of its objection to the extension of the “grain deal” for the export of grain and other agricultural products from Ukrainian ports to the world market.

In connection with the termination of the Black Sea Initiative and the curtailment of the maritime humanitarian corridor, from 00:00 Moscow time on July 20, 2023, all ships en route to Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea will be considered as potential carriers of military cargo. Accordingly, the flag countries of such vessels will be considered involved in the Ukrainian conflict on the side of the Kyiv regime, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Thus, Russia stated that it intends to sink any civilian ships that will be sent to the Black Sea ports of Ukraine. This will greatly complicate the delivery of agricultural products to many poor regions of the world. Due to Russia's sabotage of the "grain corridor" in recent months, the world has not received an additional 25 million tons of agricultural products from Ukraine. In total, 1,002 vessels left Ukrainian ports during the year of this agreement. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, since the start of the “grain agreement”, more than 33 million tons of products of Ukrainian farmers have been exported to 45 countries of the world.

It is worth noting that after withdrawing from the grain deal, Russia has been attacking Ukrainian ports with missiles and drones for the third night in a row, trying to hit terminals with Ukrainian grain. So, on July 19, 60,000 tons of grain were destroyed in the terminal of the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk, which was planned to be delivered to the world market two months ago.

With its piracy, Russia is blackmailing the whole world, trying to partially lift sanctions for its military invasion of Ukraine and jeopardizing food security in the world, thereby increasing the threat of hunger in many poor countries of the world.

You forgot to mention that:

1. Russia left the grain deal because of the Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian military ships safeguarding shipping routes.
2. Russia stated no attacks will be performed on the civilian vessels, they won't be sunk or shot at, but merely intercepted and taken to the port of Sevastopol.

Other than that your info is precise.  Grin
742  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SCAM or not ? on: July 22, 2023, 08:47:29 PM
Hello,

I met someone on internet who suggested that I invest in a crypto trading platform that I didn't know about. I did it step by step and made sure that it was possible to transfer the funds back to binance at any time. So I increased the volume and today customer service is asking me to pay 10% of my capital as a fee. What's more, they've told me that I can't pay this fee with the funds available on the platform, but that I have to pay it with funds from another portfolio. If I don't do this, I won't be able to recover my funds on this platform.

The name of the platform is Hitcoin. Here is the message sent by customer service:

Hello, after the Global Banking Regulatory Commission audits your HITCOIN account, according to the standards of the Turkish Tax Authority, investors need to pay 10% tax to the market exchange and the Global Banking Regulatory Commission. Calculate the tax you need to pay based on your profit in the HITCOIN market, -----*10%=---- The tax you need to pay is $----

Pursuant to Rule 21(2) of the Treaty Rules of the Global Banking Regulatory Commission. For tax purposes, all secondary market investors must deposit taxable funds in the secondary market through an external wallet. Taxes cannot be deducted from the account, and you can withdraw all funds in the account after completing the tax payment

Do you think this is a scam or can I pay safely?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sorry to say that but I guess your investment is gone. Hitcoin website doesn't seem to work anymore as well. Don't even think about sending these scammers anything.

I did it step by step and made sure that it was possible to transfer the funds back to binance at any time.

Just wondering how were you able to check that? Did you actually withdraw the funds?
743  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to value bitcoin bitmap ordinals and what do you think about them? on: July 22, 2023, 04:21:30 PM
You realize that 52% of the crypto market are those ICO coins right? Ethereum was ICO too, there is plenty of value there. You have your mind stuck in 2009/2010? Open your mind, even tho ordinals seems to be a stupid concept, finally the market decides what has value or not, you sho uldn’t be that arrogant to call everything except bitcoin a zero value thing.

Even tho bitmaps aren’t unique (you can mint the same text over and over again), but the market organized itself to count only the first mints as the valid ones, floor price of bitmaps went up more than 500% in the past weeks. Obviously there is value here even tho it looks technically stupid.

You look like those old men that don’t tolerate young kids with smartphones, just because in their time they used playing with rocks or something. Actually smartphones are the greatest invention of all time, you have access to all the knowledge in the world whenever you want and immediately.

Perhaps in the future when the metaverse becomes a real thing, those who were getting bitmaps at this time will the super rich of the future, same as those who bought bitcoin/ethereum years ago, who knows

What are your sources? I refuse to believe 52% of crypto users are retarded.  Grin

This is some 100% BS ordinals shilling. Are you being paid to shill? Or did you invest and now hoping to sell the monkey pics with profit? Poor attempt.

744  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: July 22, 2023, 06:52:49 AM
Really entertaining match I watched yesterday: Hopman Cup Belgium v Spain (Alcaraz v Goffin). Goffin was up a set (6:4) and leading 2:0 in the second. Yet Alcaraz managed to come back and win the second set 6:4 and then match tiebreak! Goffin was really close to winning and that would have been a shocking result!

At WTA Palermo, interesting match between tournament 1st seed Kasatkina and home star Paolini. Paolini defeated the Russian in three sets 6:4, 4:6, 6:3 and has good chances of winning the title. At the other WTA 250 tournament this week in Hungary there are no big names playing. Ladies are chilling after Wimbledon.  Cool
745  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People Are Not Nerdy Enough on: July 19, 2023, 11:48:58 PM
Yes, I am complaining that people are not nerdy enough. It's been 14 years since Satoshi published his white paper and the vast majority of people still don't understand what Bitcoin is and how to use it. Sure there are many people buying Bitcoin on crypto exchanges and speculating on it.

However, the average guy on the street that I speak to, and even many people on crypto forums still don't understand Bitcoin's potential as a virtual commodity, or it's potential to create an alternative to Fiat economies. Maybe the problem is deeper than just a lack of understanding about the technology? Maybe it's a lack of understanding about economics as a whole? How many people are economists?

I understand that my frustration might be due to the fact that I am coming from a very privileged position. What are your thoughts on this?

I guess that lots of people know about Bitcoin and even how it works, they just pretend they don't either because they're afraid of the $5 wrench attack or something else. After the notorious hardware wallet leaks, I checked the leaked dbs just out of curiosity and there were lots of people I know, including those who mentioned they had no idea about Bitcoin or even were openly anti-Bitcoin.
746  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: July 19, 2023, 11:26:22 PM
I agree with you.
Djokovic is physically and mentally still at the highest level and I think he can play tennis at that top level for at least 2 more seasons.
Alcatraz is currently the biggest challenge for Djokovic, but he is still a young player and I believe that he will have oscillations in his game and results.
Alcatraz could be the heir to the "big three" of world tennis, Federer, Nadal and Djokovic if he continue to play at this level, but I am sure that Djokovic has not said his last word in tennis and that he has the capacity to win a few more GS tournaments.
When Nadal returns from injury next year, I'm sure we're in for a very exciting tennis year  Grin

As long as Novak Djokovic is playing he will have two face Alcaraz as his biggest opponent in my opinion. I think Novak Djokovic is a good player who has the world of experience and he will find a way to overcome this difficult challenge. I also know that Djokovic knows that as well.

Alcatraz is obviously going to be someone who will stick around for a very long time. So he is obviously going to be able to see the next generation of players. I don’t think he is too much worried at this point. He has his whole career ahead of him.

Djokovic lost the last title but i think he might comeback even stronger for US Open and win that title. Once Djokovic retires i think we see a clear domination from Alcaraz in the tennis world. Currently no one is even close to stopping Alcaraz except Djokovic. Hopefully someone new shows up soon.

Stopping Djokovic on grass in Wimbledon this year means a lot. This wasn't just a win by a better Alcaraz in a Grand Slam final. This was a win that the world was watching because if Djokovic took this one as well, who would have still seen his career come to an end anytime soon? It's different now. It is similar to Serena Williams when she won all those Grand Slams and out of a sudden she was stuck and couldn't win anymore. She had problems on any surface and this is why this win on grass for Alcaraz was huge. He has beaten a Djokovic who played his best possible, not some average tennis at an unimportant event.

We might all be looking forward to Alcaraz breaking some records. There is no three players like Federer, Nadal and Djokovic who have essentially won all the Grand Slam titles for decades. It is only Alcaraz. What if he remains more or less uncontested for the next 15 years?

Well, Nole is arguably even more dangerous on hard. So he will be one of potential winners in New York.

I don't think Alcaraz will be dominating ATP alone. I believe some serious contenders will appear sooner rather than later (just like Rafa showed up when Roger was dominating for several years already).
747  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't expect everyone to embrace Bitcoin on: July 19, 2023, 11:15:53 PM
The earlier we understand that bitcoin is not for everyone, the better because it saves us the time and energy that we would have used to convince those who are uninterested, to move on to those who are interested and it can also drive adoption faster. I've read some threads here of some people trying to convince their family members on the positives of Bitcoin and get enraged if the said members don't share the same opinion as them but I feel everyone is entitled to his opinion and while some regard Bitcoin with outright disgust like Charlie Munger, there are some who care less of it's existence.

Bitcoiners have the opportunity to stand for something and that's eliminating the need for central authorities such as the government and banks and rather than forcing everyone to confirm to their beliefs, it's better to find an audience worth serving. What's your take, guys?

I believe this is the correct approach. People who can't see Bitcoin's power don't deserve it. So you shouldn't lose time to try to enlighten them but just buy some extra Bitcoin instead and hodl it Cool
748  Economy / Services / Re: "Hosting Hotel in Irkutsk: The Ideal Place for Placing ASIC Miners."0.065$/Kwh on: July 19, 2023, 11:04:45 PM
The cheap electricity of Irkutsk allows competitive rates = 5.5 ruble/Kw or 0.062 usd/Kw

That looks too expensive for Russia, does this price include the hosting fee? Before the war started $0.10/kw was pretty common for many EU countries and in some places in the US. In places like Kazakhstan electricity can be as low as $0.01/kw even now.

AI, Robotics ETFs Are More Popular Than Crypto in 2023 - Bloomberg

ETFs tracking robotics and AI have pulled in roughly $105 million in March, while other thematic strategies like clean energy, electric cars and cloud computing all saw outflows, according to data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence. ETF Investors Flock to Artificial Intelligence Robotics and AI-themed funds are beginning to pull in money
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-04-03/ai-and-robotics-etfs-are-more-popular-than-crypto-in-2023

Looks like investors looking for new technology trends are now focusing more on AI than in crypto currencies.

Although I do think both technologies can benefit each other mutually (like Fetch token and others), AI use cases looks much more wider to me.

Still looking for good ETF or funds to expose my portfolio to AI

Well, you can really compare crypto and AI. They are two completely different technologies and are not connected in any way. You can't compare let's say credit cards and internet. Both technologies were innovative and big for the time but still they can't be compared. People interested in AI can be the same people hodling crypto. I see no threats for Bitcoin in this new trend.
750  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Possible hardware backdoors on: July 19, 2023, 10:18:21 PM
Hi all!

I've recently seen a video where a hacker holds a conversation about possible hardware backdoors in some pcs and other devices, mainly in the processor but also in more parts. Those backdoors would come with an OS preinstalled that could spy you.

My question is: if that is the case, how secure would be a wallet that you generate in those devices?

Would an electrum wallet that you generate with Tails OS and completely offline be safe?

thx!

No wallet or OS is completely safe. Any wallet and pc can be compromised. Regarding the hardware backdoors, I totally believe they exist (we're livin g in the age of surveillance) but the question is if the manufacturers want your Bitcoin or something else?
751  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which cryptocurrency comes close to bitcoin? on: July 19, 2023, 08:34:12 PM
I just want to find a secure and decentralized alternative to bitcoin

Which blockchain could become just as decentralized as Bitcoin?
Where could I store my assets in an emergency if there are no more bitcoins?

But why? You won't be able to find anything similar to Bitcoin. No shitcoin can compare to King Daddy. All other cryptocurrencies were created to imitate Bitcoin and/or make their creators rich eventually. So it's impossible to find a secure alternative, it's only a matter of time when the rug will be pulled.
752  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: July 19, 2023, 08:13:26 PM
As long as Novak Djokovic is playing he will have two face Alcaraz as his biggest opponent in my opinion....

I personally have my doubts about it and it's also the reason why I bet alcaraz during the first set at Wimbledon final in which he was losing...
Djokovic is a player "of a certain age". He is now at the end of his sporting career cycle.
How many time will be able to fight at this level? I don't think more than a couple of years.... Roll Eyes
Like Nadal. He is a strong player, but due injury and so on he is clearly out of games since a while...

Yeah, I believe 38 is maximum age you can be competitive at this level. Diet, yoga and similar stuff can't save your body from aging. Neither can doctors. Roger's dad owns a sports clinic in Switzerland and he wasn't able to deal with Roger's knee issues. Same story with Andy Murray and later Nadal. Tennis is a very demanding sport, you body simply wears out.
753  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Wallets affected by low entropy mnemonic hack on: July 18, 2023, 09:49:49 PM
I wonder where I can find a list of wallets affected by low entropy mnemonic hack? Are they all bip39 wallets? Are hardware wallets affected? I've heard some older versions of Electrum are using something similar to bip39? Can someone point me to such a list online?
754  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to value bitcoin bitmap ordinals and what do you think about them? on: July 18, 2023, 09:08:53 PM
Bitmap ordinals can be hard to value, what concepts are you using to value them?

And what's your opinion on them?

I guess it's interesting to hear what the community has to say.

Here the conclusions I found on how to value them

1. 1 digit blocks (most valuable ones)

2. 2 digit blocks

3. 3 digit blocks

4. Blocks sub 10000

5. Blocks sub 100000

6. Blocks sub 32486 (2009 blocks, first year of bitcoin)

7. Palindromic Numbers (they are rare numbers, see here)

Nr of digits | Range of Numbers | Total numbers | Palindromic numbers in range
10-91010
210-99909
3100-99990090
41000-9999900090
510000-9999990000900
6100000-999999900000900

Examples: 828, 1001, 33633, 641146, 772277

8. Sequence numbers like 123456 or 654321

9. Repeating numbers like 11111, 21111, 100000 or 201201

10. By block value, see https://bitfeed.live/ for example block 395337 has a value of 1,067,392.4 bitcoin

Sites I use to check block details

https://bitfeed.live/

https://btcbitmap.com/verify

For trading

https://magiceden.io/ordinals/marketplace/bitmap

https://ordinalswallet.com/collection/bitmap

To analyze the market data

I extract all the data from magicdeden and ordinalswallet and then run some scripts on the data

To get all the bitmaps data from magiceden I get the data from their api directly, example url

For ordinalswallet data I download all their data via their api, example url

(don't open it via the browser the file is too large, download it as a file, analyze it with a script)

For bitfeed api, first get the block hash (example url) and then call the api (example url)

That's simple! I'll tell you how to value them: their value is zero (0). And will always stay that way. Just remember this and stay away from ordinals and you'll thank me later.    Grin
755  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russia's withdrawal from the "grain agreement". Hunger or World War III? on: July 18, 2023, 08:30:07 PM
In other words, Russia says it can sink civilian ships flying any flag as long as they take grain out of Ukraine. The sinking of civilian ships with non-military cargo in neutral waters can be considered piracy.

I wonder where they said this? Have you got any source/link? I really don't think this is going to happen as it's pretty easy to intercept/block a civilian vessel using navy ships. Why would anyone sink anybody?

Quote from: Argoo
The situation is interesting because Turkey and China, which are regarded in Russia as some kind of economic allies, are interested in extending the "grain agreement". One way out of this food crisis is to escort ships from Ukrainian ports by warships from Turkey or China. Is Putin ready to continue to increase the stakes and fight virtually with the whole world?

This is nonsense. Why would they do it? I mean, they can always buy grain from Russia?

Next up on the ATP schedule: Gstaad, Bastad and, of course, Hamburg 500 tournament! The lineup includes stars like Rudd, Zverev, Musetti, Cerundolo, Struff, Gasquet etc... It would be interesting to witness Sascha Zverev play at his home tournament. I wonder if he would be able to win the title on home courts.

So what? Have you ever seen an ethical billionaire? Caring about other people's wealth? You seriously think they exist?
---
unless he takes your money and runs he is not a criminal.
So you agree that CZ doesn't care about BTC, or his customers, but only about how he can make money for himself, but here you are defending him with all you've got. It is obvious that cz is as shady as fuck, and is as guilty as those whose platforms have collapse because of misappropriation of customers' money. The message is this, Binance may not bite the dust now, but they are not too big to fail and it is possible that they will someday, so the people who believe so much in him to use his platform for storing their funds should be prepared.

Yes, I basically agree. But why should he? He's a billionaire, a whale, why would he care? All billionaires are douchebags to some extent. But at the same time, I have a lot of respect for him and we can't deny that:
- CZ and Binance were early, CZ saw the opportunity and believed in Bitcoin. He basically invested his own money and took the risk.
- they did and keep doing a great job of promoting Bitcoin and crypto, investing boatloads of money in marketing
- they launched the Binance card which helps people live off Bitcoin and spend their Bitcoin earnings
and I could go on and on and on...

WTF did I just see? Djokovic has demolished Alcaraz in the opening set 6:1! One way traffic baby! Alcaraz is leading now 1:0 in the second but frankly things are not going great for him.

That was kinda expected. Djokovic should win this match rather easily. He's not playing against Rafa or Roger anyway. Alcaraz is pretty inexperienced and Novak is still fit.
Alcaraz may get one set but that's all he can get today. Djokovic will win his 24th Grand Slam title.

Djokovic 78-0 at Wimbledon after winning the first set

https://twitter.com/Big3Tennis/status/1680574578110746625

Meanwhile, exactly the opposite happened: the Spaniard took the next two sets (7:6, 6:1) and now leading in the fourth set 1:0. Djokovic doesn't look that fresh and dominant as in the beginning of the match. Will he have enough energy and stamina to win this one? 35yo vs a 20yo very exciting to watch this duel!
759  Economy / Economics / Re: The impact of Russian and Ukrain war on world economy on: July 16, 2023, 04:11:35 PM
2022 occurred where Europeans started purchasing Russian energy using Ruble instead of dollar so it was strengthened.

Which never happened!

Now in 2023 it is going back to normal and 1 Ruble is 0.011 USD with a 15% dump.
Most fiats are like this. Yen from 0.0095 to 0.0072 (-24%), Pound from 1.40 to 1.30 (-7%), Euro from 1.20 to 1.12 (-6.6%), Rupee from 0.014 to 0.012 (-14%), ...
~ In fact this is one of the main incentives for dedollarisation.

Oh, I got it, it de-dollarisation!
So everyone is dumping the dollar for other currencies and this keeps going up because...the US is doomed!
Meanwhile, the Russian ruble and the Chinese yuan are going down because their economies are doing great!

There is one thing I don't get it
If sanctions don't work, if a depreciating currency like this one is good,

if natural resources are the most important thing in the world, why has Iran dropped 40 places in the GDP ranking to undeveloped Africa levels:

Might be a hint of what's coming for Russia?

Which dollar you're talking about? The one which is barely avoiding default several times a year by increasing debt ceiling by many trillions?

That's not even a real currency anymore just some Monopoly money!  Grin

You have to understand one thing: even if ruble goes down to zero, the war WILL NOT STOP. Russia is a self-sufficient country, Putin is paying his tank factory workers in rubles. People in Russia are buying groceries in rubles. They are paying for utilities in rubles. Sanctions can't stop the war and can't overthrow Putin.
760  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky reportedly arrested on: July 16, 2023, 03:03:08 PM
Because he's the most anti-bitcoin person with some kind of power in the Cryto universe.
Because he is lying continuously about his license, about his #safu fund, about everything he can, he will lie he is fleeing a country and threating journalists with lawsuits right on his plane.
Because he is doing everything he can to hurt Bitcoin, by asking for higher fees for segwit, for asking enormous fees for the real chain, for promoting his own tokenized version, for not thinking a second before doing anything to hurt it, like the bullshit about halting withdrawals during the last mempool clog, like saying they should rewrite the chain to get hi stolen funds back, everything!

Bullshit! Every government, every bank in the world is way more anti-bitcoin than CZ. They are the real opposition, real foes of Bitcoin. Governments, media, banks have been lying to you for years, decades, even centuries but CZ is to blame, right? In fact, they're trying to make you believe CZ is guilty in all the deadly sins to distract your attention from their own crimes.

To play devil's advocate, he said "with some power in crypto". CZ is a shitcoin pumper, running a crypto casino, where you can pay him to list (pump) your coin and give you an opportunity to sell everything to new "investors" (simpletons) who think that if a coin is listed it means it's legit. I don't believe in his safu fund and I don't like how he pushes shitcoins to people who are new to crypto. A lot of the coins that were once listed by CZ are now gone.

So what? Have you ever seen an ethical billionaire? Caring about other people's wealth? You seriously think they exist? Like Elon Musk gives a damn about Tesla stockholders and owners? So, he can pump shitcoins (although he's not doing it directly just listing them on his exchange) or do whatever else he wants - unless he takes your money and runs he is not a criminal. Frankly, shitcoin investors deserve to be scammed. If you believe anything listed on Binance is legit you also believe Nigerian princes, dying billionaires etc etc etc
